Used 1997 Saturn S-Series Sedan Consumer Reviews
saturn sl
great reliable car with wonderful gas mileage. manual transmission is my favorite way to drive, but this particular car has problems with the first gear. if you can not drive a stick with skill, you will jerk the car on start due to the first gear. i totaled mine, T-boned a car while going 50 mph, and this car had no intrusions, and i was not injured from the wreck due to its great safety
Saturns are great cars
I bought this car with 53k miles less than three years ago, it now has 120k. I'm religious with my maintainance, but other than that I've had to make only a few small repairs. Will definitely trade this one in for another Saturn when the time comes.

Cheapily built
My car has been nothing but trouble since it crossed 35K mark. A new alternator, engine mounts (replaced twice), brakes, rotors, electrical problems, rattles, noisy belt etc. to name a few. The car is uncomfortable to drive and a total lemon.
Disappointed
This was my first and last Saturn. I currently have 70,000 miles on the car, it was purchased new, but I have had many problems. The following components have been replaced: the air conditioner compressor; water pump; fuel pump; horn; alternator; and upper motor mount(twice). The automatic transmission also clunks sometimes when it up shifts. This car does get plenty of tender loving care and is not abused.
Highest recommendation
I bought my Saturn SL new in '97 and have since driven it 65,000 miles in all types of weather, city and highway, short and long distance etc. I have not had a single complaint or a single non-scheduled repair. I love the way it handles, I enjoy driving it, the dealer's stereo sounds great, and I can fit a remarkable amount of stuff in the very spacious trunk (plus 50/50 fold down back seat). Love it, couldn't recommend it more.
