From Slaab To Saaahhhhbbb
Have owned it for 1 week and am so glad. We test drove the BMW, Audi, Honda, anything and everything. This is by far the best for the money. The lease special that Saab ran was one of kind. Like the saying goes "most who test drive a Saab, buy a Saab" and we were one of those.
Nice low profile sports sedan
After over 3 years and nearly 60,000 miles, I have no complaints about the car other than the poor resale value vs its competition. It handles nicely with the sport pkg, feels safe on the road, looks great in red, and always gets compliments. It has had a few minor electrical glitches but all were fixed under warranty, and one was fixed out of warranty due to a recall. Sure, they're not Hondas, but they do stand behind them. This is just about the safest affordable vehicle on the road when you factor in handling, braking, crash tests, curb weight, airbags, etc. Road noise is a little higher than some luxury brands, but it's not bad. A great used car bargain due to low resale value.

just average
the 9-3 is OK but I expected better handling and more responsive pickup. i just hope it doesnt wind up in the shop too many times.
2003 Arc
smooth ride and impressive accelarion with the 3 and 4 gear.
different is good!
The new 9-3 is the real deal, I test drove a Linear model and was pleased with the car. It's fun to drive and I just can't say enough about the interior! I love the look and feel of the interior. The only drawback from the Linear is its 175hp. it needs atleast 10-15hp more. It does not feel as fast as a 325i from BMW.
Too much GM -- really a SAAturn 9-3
The SAAB 9-5 is a great car, while the more I live with the 9-3 the more disenchanted I become. The stereo is horrible, it sounds like it is from a Cavalier rental car, and for this reason alone I would NOT recommend this car!!!! This cheapness / poor quality is found throughout the interior, which has the cheap look and feel typical of GM products. Instead of feeling like I'm driving a quality Euro car (as I did with the 9-5) I feel like the 9-3 is a glorified Saturn, or should I say SAAturn!
THE CAR?
test drove the japanese and german rivals. saab feels and rides better. great acceleration in manual but need to concentrate on first gear. good overall car. some reviewers trash saab, i'm not sure of their validity! i'm a proud owner, test drive it and make your own opinion. ps. other competitiors have similar performance but you have to rev the engine v high, saab has great low end torque!
My last SAAB
Purchased new - experience has been less than stellar with immediate recalls of front wheel axles. As the weather got colder the first winter (2 months after the purchase) the car would not immediately start. After repeated trips to the dealership the problem was resolved with an adjustement to the engine software. Multiple recalls on the vehicle - seat belts, gas cap, etc. I have had a constant check engine light issue which I was told was a secondary vacuum pump for the turbo ($600+) that I have chosen not to repair since it service tech stated it only affected mileage which I have seen no change.
My Sabb
I've loved my car ever since I bought it. It is really fun to drive.
2003 Saab 9-3 Arc Review
This is a great car, and is very reliable and all around well built car.
The Saab 9.3 is a blast
This is my first Saab and I am impressed. The handling is precise. The car can be pushed into tight corners fast with complete confidence and predictability. The exterior design is pleasing carrying a sense of motion even when parked. The interior materials are a bit disappointing. The plastic fascia on the instrument panel looks cheap. However the seats and door panels are simple and pleasing. But, I bought the car for the engineering and handling, and boy am I happy with what they put into this car. My wife ends up driving it the most. I want one of my own!
Loads For Your Money
This is an excellent vehicle which is fun to drive. There is no feature lacking in this car. While it may not be quite as quick as some of the other vehicles in its class, it is still plenty zippy. Forget about automatic in the Vector, get a stick. I have test driven most of the competitor vehicles and I feel that you get much more for your money with the Saab. This is a car for those who like the driving experience. If you want a fun vehicle to drive and you are not obsessed with impressing your friends and neighbors with a brand name, then Saab would be your choice.
Best Car on the Road
Nothing comes close. Anyone who complains about this car has neither driven it nor seen it.
fun to drive, but needs some improvement
This is a fun car to drive. It is my first convertible and my wife and I are having a lot of fun driving up the coast or even to the grocery store!
Never Again
HUGE MISTAKE! Infotainment system has malfunctioned every three to four weeks requiring another visit to the dealership and a vacation day from work since they aren't open evenings or weekends. The parking break release broke, leaving my car stuck and needing a tow. The multifunction computer (distance to empty feature) seldom works. Horn stopped working just 6 months after purchase. I traded in a Passat GLX for this car...I can only plead insanity? Dealership has repaired all malfunctions free of charge and provided me with a loaner (in which I noticed the same problem for which my car was being serviced).
Great convertible!
Wow! I received a fantastic deal after this gem sat at my local dealership for six months with no takers. Car turns heads and continues to receive compliments. Driving topless is the best stress-buster in the world. If I'd heeded the reviews in Consumer Reports, I would never have purchased this vehicle, so I'm glad I lived on the edge. I love the unique design and the fact that so few others own this vehicle. Still love it after owning for a year.
My new 93 Saab
The SAAB 93 Vector is a very fun car to drive. Just loving it!
2003 saab 9-3 turbo convertible
This is one of the finest autos I've owned. I've owned mercedes as well as other expensive autos. The fit, and finish is excellent. The performance is superb especially when you realize it's coming from a 2 liter engine.
We love it!
We have enjoyed this certified Saab for almost a year now, we really do not have a bad word to say, its fun to drive and we often fight over who gets it that day!
Stay away from this Saab
I bought the car for my wife last month, I had so many problems that I am seriously considering selling the car at a huge loss. The ride is harsh and uncomfortable, the quality of the parts on the dashboard are noisy since are shared with other less expensive GMs. The driving position is odd and unsual.
It's Criminal - Worst car decision
Best car to drive Ive had in my 45 years but notoriously unreliable. Its too late for me. My only hope in posting is the satisfaction I get in saving another person the aggravation and expense of owning this beast. I was the sole owner, of a 2003 9-3 Linear. 50K after 5 years, and $2,475 in repairs since 9/07 including both front window regulators, O2 sensor, cabin temp. control malfunction, back door latch malfunction. Add these to the list of failures including radio volume control, sunroof malfunction, headlight assembly and 4 recalls, among others. This is more than a shame. This is downright criminal that an auto manufacturer of a $30K + vehicle
Great car!
I bought this Saab-Certified car about four months ago and am very happy so far. The fuel economy is great, 33 mpg hwy and runs on regular fuel. There is a little more road noise than I care for and the stereo could be better, but these are minor issues. Not quite a 3-series or A4, but priced thousands $ less. Overall, this is a fun to drive car and is very economical. I would buy another one.
vector
This was a huge surprise from Saab. Six speed with good passing power. Perfect seats, could have used a bit more room in the rear and less trunk (it's huge).
My poor SAAB
My saab is the funnest car I have ever had. But there is a problem, it has been in the shop one out of every eight days ive had it.
beautiful
i love my new black saab. make sure though, that you get a few things. otherwise, it will just be a simple car. you must get the touring package. save up if you need to, because it makes a huge difference. the dual auto ac is very stylish. also, definitely get at least the 16, if not 17 inch wheels. this car is fantastic. people actually enjoy my saab, and are surpised to be. they have finally made a car that is more for the classy (not quirky) driver. i love the speed for the 4 cylinder its got.
Be careful...
After 1800 miles a new transmission unit was installed because the last one caused a loud grinding noise when shifting into second gear. At around 4300 miles, the same EXACT problem with tranmission happened again. The second time my car was worked on, the problem was actually worse. The problem only occurs when the engine is cold. In addition, "engine malfunction" light has come on twice. Power seats didn't work properly. The radio has messed up. A headlight has gone out. All this with less than 5000 miles.
arc 9-3
I've had my car almost a year and for the most part I like it however, I'm reminded daily that I hate the 6 speed transmission. The shift from 1st to 2nd is very slow and I often catch the teeth on the snycros. I read in one car magazine that the Audi A4 with less power was faster from 0 to 60 because of the slow shift. I'm at a loss as to why the traction control has come on so often, and on one road I turn it off so it doesn't come on. At night it can be scary when you can't use your brights on a real dark road because of traffic. The don't shine far enough. These Thule roof racks are only available at a saab dealer.
Fun to drive.... at the beginning
The electrical system is a joke. Windows are constantly breaking, trip computer goes crazy, electronic locking steering wheel malfunctions and I can't start the car. All problems continue even after services. The worst about this car is the brakes... sounds like a school bus, but according to saab it's "normal brake noise". Not very saab like... or is it? That aside... very fun to drive. Would never buy unless under factory warranty and as soon as mine ends I'm ditching it.
Great Car
Just picked the car up a few weeks ago. Great vehicle. Looks like it's Bye Bye BMW
Wish the electronics worked
I bought the Linear in Feb 03. I have every option on the car including the "rare" launch package. My initial response to the car was very positive. However, since Feburary we had the car in for electronics problems 5 seperate times(mainly onstar). Our dealership, although responsive, seemed to be inept the first 4 times I graced there floors. Fianlly, after dealing with the GM and the service manager the problem appears to be resolved.fantastic.Cruising at 80 mph feels effortless, and unnoticed with how well the car rides. However, I am basing that only on the few times I have driven the car since it seems to be in the shop more than I'm driving it.
2003 Saab 9-3
My daily commute is just over 2 hours per day. I couldn't think of a more enjoyable car to use! The car is a blast to drive, while getting very reasonable fuel economy (I average about 31mpg on my commute) Insurance rates can't be beat, I was shocked at how low my premiums were. Saab certainly has developed a reputation for saftey and the proof is in its insurance rates. If you are looking for understated elegance packed into a peppy, safe and fuel effiecent vehicle, do yourself a favor and look into a 9-3. I have had it for 2 1/2 trouble free years and will certainly buy Saab again!
Great, fun car!
I've had my Arc almost 2 months now (3k miles). I love driving it more and more every day. Handling and grip are awesome for a sedan! Acceleration is very brisk, despite slight turbo lag off the line. I love the design, the comfort (great seats!), the on- star system. We'll see about reliability -- suffered minor stalling problem at very low speed, now apparently corrected by dealer reprogramming the computer; homelink garage opener doesn't work (for anyone, apparently); otherwise, no problems. Great value for the money and reeaally fun to drive.
My 1st Saab, my 1st convertible!
I got the convertible "bug",and happened to find the Saab accidently on Autotrader. It looked nice in pictures, so I set out to find a "real one" to test drive. I was sick of driving a gas guzzling SUV! I couldn't afford anything new, but that didn't stop me from looking for one I COULD afford. What luck! I found a 2003 about 75 miles from my home, and the rest is history. It is a decent size, responsive, gorgeous vehicle. I'm getting 25 mpg versus about 17 with my old SUV. It's a slick ride to say the least. I just wish I'd bought one sooner. I feel 20 years younger!! The best thing is that it's unique. Not many of these on the road, so you'll get noticed. The 4 cylinder turbo is unreal.
Do not buy this car
I bought this car about 10 months ago and i have had terrible experience with this car, all kinds of repairs from ignition switch, oxygen sensor, new tires, steering rack, headlights died on me that cost me about 210 per 1. I would not suggest nobody to buy this car.
My fabulous 2nd Saab
The salesman told me once I bought one Saab I would go back. Same as my 2001 that I sold to my father-in-law except for the manual transmission. Great car no issues so far.
AERODYNAMICS EXTREME
Just can not get out of my car! It is wonderful! My friends who have BMW, Mercedes, and Lexus cars all respect my ride and wants to exchange cars for a day to see what all the hype is all about. Not a chance! They better go get their won. I like a competing growing car with an interesting history. SAAB never dies, literally!
The Best Car
My Silver Vector has 3800 miles on it and I love driving it. I get a lot of complaints from many of my friends. Everyone seems to love the body kit on the car. There is not much turbo lag but the car does take a second to get going after you hit the gas pedal. The sport seats are perfect for sharp turns.
SOCAL Saab Experience
I also own a 1988 Saab 900S with 280,000 miles. I have to say the 2003 model is a big step forward. Great handling, plenty of power, once you get into second and third (this car needs the 5 speed manual) and great gas mileage. Just got back from Arizona and got 33 MPG at average 80+ MPH. Have turned 10,000 miles and have zero mechanical complaints. NONE. Has not been back to the dealer one time; no rattles, no issues. However, the base model I got has inadequate back speakers. I spent $100 and replaced them with an upgraded set and all is well. For this price range, I can't imagine beating this car for fun and economy.
Love / Hate Relationship
This is such a great car, it is a shame that I have a Lemon. I was not worried about buying the Vector as soon as it was made available b/c of SAAB's committment to quality, however have ended up driving the loaner car more than my fun Vector. There is something draining the battery when the car is off and they have replaced everything: CD Changer, 300W Amp, Window Controls, Battery, you name it. Unfortunetely due to the fine print on the contract since I used GMS discount I have no protection under the Lemon Law. I hope they get it fixed b/c it is a great car.
OK so far on 2003 rag top
Not as good on gas mileage as I had hoped. Does much better on extended trip. Can use mid-level gas with no problem--regular might be OK too, but I haven't tried it. Recommend the leather arm rest--gave it to me at purchase. Paid $32,400 in October, 2003. Car does shake over any type of rough road--but has good pick up and excellent braking. The hand brake is the strongest I have ever experienced. The car will not move when it is engaged. Top works well--no leaks.
It's truly great!
It's been a year I've had the car and I love it now as much as day 1-- very fun to drive! I'm 6'4", 240 pounds and have chronic low and mid-back pain and one of the few seats in the world that gives me great relief is this Saab's driver seat-- it is incredibly comfortable. the room inside is great including trunk, but it is still very easy to park in the city. I love the ergonomics, love the steering wheel controls, I believe handles BETTER than 3 series Beamer and sports Lexus (it is very nimble/responsive), great breaking, love the 'chilled' front passenger storage, and very solid acceleration.
The BEST european sport sedan under 35k
Absolutley the best sport sedan on the market, far superior than AUDI A4 and BMW 3 series; VOLO S60 doesnt even come close to this car really a jewel
Great car at a great price!
Saab has really put together a wonderful car! All the gadgets in the car are so cool. Its very functional, fun to drive, beauty to look at, excellent cornering, quick acceleration, comfortable even for a 6'4" person.
So Far So Good
I was a bit nervous buying a first year model. Especially since I've never owned a Saab before. But this car is unlike the Saabs of yesteryear. It looks great (not quirky), it drives great, and for a few dollars more than a Maxima, the fit and finish 100 times better than any car in its price range. For well under $30,000, you can be driving a car that easily competes (and in many cases beats) $35,000 - $40,000 Audis and BMWs in terms of quality, ride, finish, and customer service.
So Sad
My first luxury car loved it but it was in the shop every couple of weeks for the first four months. Undiagnosed stalling, clutch lost pressure, wouldn't restart. Dealership tinkered and replaced the turbo. After almost a year it still has stalling/restarting problem. A beautiful piece of art but I need a dependable ride. Fun to drive but I can get C-class Mercedes for the same - I'm out of here when lease is up.
Totally New Car
Unlike any Saab I've ever driven. A true premium entry level luxury sedan. Holds its own and then some compared to the BMW 3's and Audi A4.
FUN CAR
I have been driving it for a week now and let me tell you, that the SAAB commercial about a "direct link between the right foot and a smile" IS TRUE. my wife keeps telling me that every time I accelerate " I never saw you smile so much" followed by "agony and screaming". options: Moonroof and Heated seats, I also had the dealer install a rear spoiler and the sport muffler. It really brought the car out even more, too bad I can't post a picture.
Unique & Fun to Drive
A distinctive car on the streets of Boston: uncommon, elegant & sporty. Fast but not that fast: Good acceleration, but sometimes slow to take off. Very effective overtaking at 80mph. Handling is precise and very enjoyable to drive. 6M gear box is OK but often grates when changing, even with clutch fully down. No fix from Saab. Mileage is great. And you're talking to the guy who got 17mpg out of a PRIUS. Mental driving = 25mpg/35mpg when cruise set to 65mph coming back from VT. Outstanding. Good in snow with new Continental tires. Clean looking interior design but front door panel inserts rattle. Would I buy again? Yes absolutely. No regrets just fun
I love my Saab
I bought this car new, I had 1 problem with it took it to the dealer, they fixed it. The problem is with a rattle but I have never heard from it since. I love the turbo, it makes you think it's a v6. I still get around 32 on highway and 24-29 in town. I never had any electrical problems with it. I have about a 2 hour drive each day and it has suited well. I will always drive saab from now on, this is my second one, the last one was crushed by a drunk driver with my daughter driving, she walked away without a cut.
Guess I've been lucky
I've owned this car for 5 years and it's the most comfortable car I've ever driven. And everyone loves how it looks. The biggest negative is the cost of repair. I haven't had many (knock on wood) but those that I've had are expensive. Then again, it's less expensive to than an Audi or BMW. Second big complain is that the wheels are held on my bolts, not lugs. All five need to be at proper torque for the wheel to balance. Also, the wheel hub and bolt are softer metal, so I've already had to re-tap one wheel twice due to electric wrench happy mechanics.
