DOUBLED DOWN! Upgraded from Base to GTS

MAPC, 08/29/2020
2020 Porsche Macan GTS 4dr SUV AWD (2.9L 6cyl Turbo 7AM)

First- this review is NOT to say that the Base isn't a great car--IT IS. I owned my 2018 for two years and LOVED it. I have owned many cars and have only 2 other times ever bought another version of a car I had already owned- and this is the first time that I am doing in back to back. The build quality, interior fit and finish is fantastic. Nothing feels as good- at any price. In terms of size, it is true that this is not a 'family hauler'- which is exactly why I like it so much. I have owned a Cayenne S in the past but I just prefer smaller cars- even though I am a bigger guy. My favorite car of all time (until now!) has been my GTI- and this feels like a bigger/higher end/big-boy version of my GTI. Yes, they are expensive. Yes, they charge you extra for many things that others provide in their base prices....but, to me, it is well worth it. I looked at x3 M40i, Stelvio, Velar, etc and none of them comes close to the build quality, handling and overall performance of the Macan. BASE- absolutely good enough if you are not a performance junkee S- great all around, you won't regret spending the $ for it if you can afford it GTS- definitely the 'one to get' for the true Porsche experience in a CUV TURBO- certainly appealing but, IMHO, only if you load it up with the performance/handling features that are standard in the GTS but optional in the Turbo If you are considering a Macan- go for it- you will not regret it.

Are two more cylinders worth $10k?

I drove both the base and the S. Base is plenty quick. Porsche will eat you alive with options. I built a really nice ride with the price difference. This is one of the nicest Porsches I have owned going all the way back to a ‘59 cabriolet

My 2020 Macan S

It’s definitely worth the extra money if performance, handling, and quality of assembly matters. It’s an absolute pleasure to sit in and drive, surrounded by a expertly engineered and configured cockpit of gauges, physical switches and knobs. The new high resolution 10.2” touch screen is responsive and intuitive to use, and comes with a complement of physical buttons as well. Surprisingly, the Model S 3.0 L V6 is more fuel efficient than I expected. Yes, how you drive will affect mileage greatly. However, it’s fairly easy to get about 25 mpg driving at a steady 70-75. The engine exhaust note is rather muted, I regret not getting the sport exhaust. The premium plus package is a great choice and a good starting point. If you choose the 20/21 inch wheels either get the PASM or air suspension. I have 19 inch wheels and the standard steel springs are just fine.

My favorite small luxury performance SUV

I owned the Macan S before buying the base model (to save a few dollars). The additional power is noticeable, but the base is still a great car. If power is a concern, opt for the S trim or higher. Also, rear legroom is tight and cargo space isn't the best, but it's perfect for my needs. The initial model when the Macan launched had some kinks in the PCM (Porsche's infotainment system), but the newer models are vastly improved. I looked at most of the Macan's direct competitors, but felt the Macan is still the best in its class.

Outstanding Vehicle with a few very minor issues

Meema, 08/05/2021
2020 Porsche Macan S 4dr SUV AWD (3.0L 6cyl Turbo 7AM)

We were looking to replace our 2014 Audi Q5 3.0, which was sporty, peppy, and handled well only to find Audi did not offer a comparable vehicle in 2020, and those they did offer did not perform in a similar manner. So we drove the Macan and Macan S and quickly concluded the S was a great replacement, albeit slightly more $$ and less cargo space. Performance is nothing less than expected from a Porsche - outstanding. Standard features and functions are excellent, but the few options we chose were outrageously priced (also typical for Porsche). $8000+ for Premium Package and leather , $700 for the mirror lights that warn of someone in your blind spot when changing lanes. Having driven it a year we are extremely pleased with it in all New England driving conditions, and very happy we have it. The few sniveling issues we wish Porsche would consider addressing are (1) you can't see the analog instrument marking in the daylight - but the digital instruments are easy to see even with sunglasses, (2) With memory seat and memory key the Audi was smart enough to adjust he seat position automatically when you open the door based on your key. Porsche will do that only if the car is locked and you unlock it upon entry. Why not move the seat for the driver automatically? (3) The heated steering wheel on/off button is located in a position on the steering wheel where it is hard to identify but easy to actuate unknowingly while driving. These are minor annoyances far outweighed by the performance and handling of this great vehicle.

Porsche has a winner. This thing is better than the Cayenne, and more economical too. I got rid of a brand new MBZ GLB (10K miles) to get my new Macan. This SUV has plenty of room in back for whatever. My skis fit inside, which is a plus. Drives well uphill at freeway speeds +. Goes like hell downhill too. Driving experience feels like driving a Porsche car which I really enjoy.

Macan - Outstanding SUV with Sports Sedan Handling

After owning six SUVs from another German manufacturer, the Macan is by far the best driving one. Porsche has really figured out how to provide feed back with electric power steering. The suspension is firm, but eliminates harshness. All the controls are easy to use and you don't have to use the display to adjust the controls normally used. The Macan is the incredibly quiet. Several people have commented on how quiet it is. I have nothing negative to say about the Macan. Of all the vehicles my wife and I have owned over 50 plus years, this is our favorite vehicle. UPDATE: Of the nine SAVs and SUVs we have owned, the Macan is by far our favorite. While it does not carry as much as the larger SUVs, it is way more fun to drive. It has the best steering, handling and braking of any SUV I have ever driven. It certainly drives closer to a sports sedan than it does to a typical large and heavy SAV/SUV. Update 2: While the Macan remains our favorite SAV/SUV, the cost of maintenance at the dealer is absurd. They wanted over $1,800 for an oil change, brake flush and changing all the filters. Final update: The Macan was rear ended by a 26 foot U-Haul box truck estimated to be going 30 mph while the Macan was doing 3 mph per the dash cam. The impact increased the Macan’s speed to 14 mph and pushed it into the back of a pickup truck. The structural integrity of the Macan was amazing. All four side doors opened the same after the impact as they did before. The box truck’s radiator was damaged as well as the grill, hood and front fenders so it was also towed. Both the rear and front of the Macan were heavily damaged, but the driver and passenger compartment was structurally intact.

Macan S has A Rough Ride Without Air Suspension

My 2017 Macan GTS had a much smoother and refined ride as it had electronic air suspension that's why I went for the 2020 S. There was no GTS at the time. Frankly, I live in New York and the ride quality on most roads is brutally harsh. On the highway at high speed it is a true sports car. Its all good if you live in a location with smooth roads. Its fast and very well built. I would not have done this deal without the GTS suspension or pay much less for the base Macan, not the S.

They need to understand the technology, and know that upkeep is expensive. Very powerful and fun driving car. Not the best on gas mileage.

Perfect I save $4000 with the edmunds app. They located for me many car dealerships to choose from. And they gave me the best price possible in each one of them.

2020 Porsche Macan brakes squeal!

Lorraine , 09/02/2021
2020 Porsche Macan 4dr SUV AWD (2.0L 4cyl Turbo 7AM)

Hi, I purchased a 2020 Porsche Macan from Greenwich Porsche 4/21, with less than 20k miles. I drove the car and the brakes scream like hell and Greenwich as well as Fairfield Porsche is telling me that in stop and go traffic, due to high performance brakes that the brakes will squeal (sounds like 18 wheeler brakes) and this is common. I said okay. Although I was going to check with my many friends who NEVER said this about any Porsche, nor have I read this in any Porsche writeups. I feel Im being taken advantage of any my safety is being put in jeopardy!! I paid cash for this vehicle and it's been an uphill battle with this dealership! I haven't been able to enjoy my car! So, I'm searching to see if there are any complaints about Porsche Macan 2020 brakes or any Porsche brakes having this issue before I lose my temper and wring this guy's neck and file my complaints again. If anyone can assist me, please advise if this story is just that a tall tale.
