DOUBLED DOWN! Upgraded from Base to GTS
First- this review is NOT to say that the Base isn't a great car--IT IS. I owned my 2018 for two years and LOVED it. I have owned many cars and have only 2 other times ever bought another version of a car I had already owned- and this is the first time that I am doing in back to back. The build quality, interior fit and finish is fantastic. Nothing feels as good- at any price. In terms of size, it is true that this is not a 'family hauler'- which is exactly why I like it so much. I have owned a Cayenne S in the past but I just prefer smaller cars- even though I am a bigger guy. My favorite car of all time (until now!) has been my GTI- and this feels like a bigger/higher end/big-boy version of my GTI. Yes, they are expensive. Yes, they charge you extra for many things that others provide in their base prices....but, to me, it is well worth it. I looked at x3 M40i, Stelvio, Velar, etc and none of them comes close to the build quality, handling and overall performance of the Macan. BASE- absolutely good enough if you are not a performance junkee S- great all around, you won't regret spending the $ for it if you can afford it GTS- definitely the 'one to get' for the true Porsche experience in a CUV TURBO- certainly appealing but, IMHO, only if you load it up with the performance/handling features that are standard in the GTS but optional in the Turbo If you are considering a Macan- go for it- you will not regret it.

Are two more cylinders worth $10k?
I drove both the base and the S. Base is plenty quick. Porsche will eat you alive with options. I built a really nice ride with the price difference. This is one of the nicest Porsches I have owned going all the way back to a ‘59 cabriolet

My 2020 Macan S
It’s definitely worth the extra money if performance, handling, and quality of assembly matters. It’s an absolute pleasure to sit in and drive, surrounded by a expertly engineered and configured cockpit of gauges, physical switches and knobs. The new high resolution 10.2” touch screen is responsive and intuitive to use, and comes with a complement of physical buttons as well. Surprisingly, the Model S 3.0 L V6 is more fuel efficient than I expected. Yes, how you drive will affect mileage greatly. However, it’s fairly easy to get about 25 mpg driving at a steady 70-75. The engine exhaust note is rather muted, I regret not getting the sport exhaust. The premium plus package is a great choice and a good starting point. If you choose the 20/21 inch wheels either get the PASM or air suspension. I have 19 inch wheels and the standard steel springs are just fine.

My favorite small luxury performance SUV
I owned the Macan S before buying the base model (to save a few dollars). The additional power is noticeable, but the base is still a great car. If power is a concern, opt for the S trim or higher. Also, rear legroom is tight and cargo space isn't the best, but it's perfect for my needs. The initial model when the Macan launched had some kinks in the PCM (Porsche's infotainment system), but the newer models are vastly improved. I looked at most of the Macan's direct competitors, but felt the Macan is still the best in its class.

Outstanding Vehicle with a few very minor issues
We were looking to replace our 2014 Audi Q5 3.0, which was sporty, peppy, and handled well only to find Audi did not offer a comparable vehicle in 2020, and those they did offer did not perform in a similar manner. So we drove the Macan and Macan S and quickly concluded the S was a great replacement, albeit slightly more $$ and less cargo space. Performance is nothing less than expected from a Porsche - outstanding. Standard features and functions are excellent, but the few options we chose were outrageously priced (also typical for Porsche). $8000+ for Premium Package and leather , $700 for the mirror lights that warn of someone in your blind spot when changing lanes. Having driven it a year we are extremely pleased with it in all New England driving conditions, and very happy we have it. The few sniveling issues we wish Porsche would consider addressing are (1) you can't see the analog instrument marking in the daylight - but the digital instruments are easy to see even with sunglasses, (2) With memory seat and memory key the Audi was smart enough to adjust he seat position automatically when you open the door based on your key. Porsche will do that only if the car is locked and you unlock it upon entry. Why not move the seat for the driver automatically? (3) The heated steering wheel on/off button is located in a position on the steering wheel where it is hard to identify but easy to actuate unknowingly while driving. These are minor annoyances far outweighed by the performance and handling of this great vehicle.
Magnificent Vehicle
2020 Macan S review: Options are expensive, but you do get what you pay for in quality of materials and In the absolutely joy driving this vehicle. I have owned many vehicle in my lifetime but none have given me as much driving pleasure. Reliability has yet to be determined, it’s only been a few weeks. I have very few complaints, the only one worth mentioning is the lack of daytime visibility when reading the numbers on the analog tach. The S model tachometer comes with a grey rather than black dial, which provides poor contrast with the white numbers on the tach, once the backlightIng has switched off. The red tach needle remains visible. I find myself turning the lights back on during sunny days especially during early mornings when the sun is low.

Macan is Awesome!
Porsche has a winner. This thing is better than the Cayenne, and more economical too. I got rid of a brand new MBZ GLB (10K miles) to get my new Macan. This SUV has plenty of room in back for whatever. My skis fit inside, which is a plus. Drives well uphill at freeway speeds +. Goes like hell downhill too. Driving experience feels like driving a Porsche car which I really enjoy.

Macan - Outstanding SUV with Sports Sedan Handling
After owning six SUVs from another German manufacturer, the Macan is by far the best driving one. Porsche has really figured out how to provide feed back with electric power steering. The suspension is firm, but eliminates harshness. All the controls are easy to use and you don't have to use the display to adjust the controls normally used. The Macan is the incredibly quiet. Several people have commented on how quiet it is. I have nothing negative to say about the Macan. Of all the vehicles my wife and I have owned over 50 plus years, this is our favorite vehicle. UPDATE: Of the nine SAVs and SUVs we have owned, the Macan is by far our favorite. While it does not carry as much as the larger SUVs, it is way more fun to drive. It has the best steering, handling and braking of any SUV I have ever driven. It certainly drives closer to a sports sedan than it does to a typical large and heavy SAV/SUV. Update 2: While the Macan remains our favorite SAV/SUV, the cost of maintenance at the dealer is absurd. They wanted over $1,800 for an oil change, brake flush and changing all the filters. Final update: The Macan was rear ended by a 26 foot U-Haul box truck estimated to be going 30 mph while the Macan was doing 3 mph per the dash cam. The impact increased the Macan’s speed to 14 mph and pushed it into the back of a pickup truck. The structural integrity of the Macan was amazing. All four side doors opened the same after the impact as they did before. The box truck’s radiator was damaged as well as the grill, hood and front fenders so it was also towed. Both the rear and front of the Macan were heavily damaged, but the driver and passenger compartment was structurally intact.

Porsche Macan S is practical and fun daily driver
I purchased my 2019 Porsche Macan S volcanic gray SUV as my "retirement phase" daily driver; although I miss the 2016 Cayman I traded for it, I have found the Macan is every bit a fun and exciting car to drive, both in relaxing cruise, as well as pushing through sharp curves going up or down mountain country roads. The fit and finish is premium, the onboard equipment is easy to enable and adjust; the seats are firm but very comfortable. And the turbo-charged V6 is reasonable economical on long interstate highway runs - I averaged 26 mpg during two 400-mile legs at high speed between my home and Savannah, GA during the recent Independence Day holiday. The cargo bay has plenty of space for the occasional shopping trip or overnight/weekend travel. I am very pleased with my choice; I recommend the vehicle.

Macan S has A Rough Ride Without Air Suspension
My 2017 Macan GTS had a much smoother and refined ride as it had electronic air suspension that's why I went for the 2020 S. There was no GTS at the time. Frankly, I live in New York and the ride quality on most roads is brutally harsh. On the highway at high speed it is a true sports car. Its all good if you live in a location with smooth roads. Its fast and very well built. I would not have done this deal without the GTS suspension or pay much less for the base Macan, not the S.

Porsche, one of the best!
They need to understand the technology, and know that upkeep is expensive. Very powerful and fun driving car. Not the best on gas mileage.

My Second Macan
2019 Macan S. Driving is a sort of art form as far as I am concerned, so it is mandatory that I search the entire SUV marketplace for the best. I believe I have found it in the Macan S. The driving experience of the vehicle is superior to all so called competitors. I drove them all to include MB, BMW, Audi, Jag............ Porsche has done a good job of taking quality materials inside for an elegant but simple layout. The tech part of the vehicle takes a little getting used to but simple to use after a little time. My S has excellent straight line acceleration with a very very small turbo lag. It goes around corners at speed with almost zero body roll making taking corners very comfortable. The ride is taught, but pleasant. Some steering feedback, but not a lot. I have a 911 as my other car so my field of interpretation is somewhat different than people who drive other cars I suspect. This vehicle is a solid 5 star, go drive one, I think you will agree. UPDATE, had the vehicle for 10months now, still very pleased. 7500 miles and no problems. This is a better refined overall vehicle than my 2017 Macan S, they have improved the rmp ratios for comfort driving over the old model. This 2019 Macan S stays in the lower gears a little longer making accelerating a little more aggressive and has eliminated the tendency for the vehicle to shift into higher gears at slower speeds. This vehicle is also able to default the auto engine stop to off, you do not need to reset it every time you start the engine like you do in a lot of other vehicles. Still 5 stars across the board............. UPdate 17000 miles. No complaints, all above writings remain constant and relevant to current.

Best car value for < $60k new: 2019 Macan base
I special-ordered my 2019 base Macan and received it three months later (in June 2019). I had test-driven many 2018 Macans with both the 4-cylinder and 6-cyliner engines, and coming from a 456-hp Panamera E-Hybrid, I found the 6-cylinder Macans to be underwhelming and not worth the extra expense above the base Macan. Plus, the base Macan gets much better gas mileage (I typically have gotten 27-28 mpg on long highway trips at speeds of 70 mph with ACC on, but only about 21-22 mpg in local town driving). I decided to get the base Macan to save money, and especially on keeping options to a minimum (that's where Porsche makes a killing, and they surely don't like customers like me!). So my final price was about $54k (all Porsche MSRPs have gone up a LOT since 2019, sadly). My must-have options were: 14-way seats (which give you lots of extras like electric-adjustable steering wheel, memory for seat positions and mirrors, etc.); ACC; blind-spot monitoring; heated front seats; nifty dashboard rotating compass (with altitude and time display). I wasn't going to spend money on getting a heated steering wheel so my dealership threw that in for free, knowing they'd likely be selling it in the future after I trade in for another Porsche. Yes, all my selected options come standard on many much-cheaper cars, including our 2021 RAV4 Prime; that's where Porsche makes its money. This 2019 version of the Macan was the first year of the so-called "facelift", in which Porsche brought in the new infotainment system from Panamera, which is just about the best infotainment system I've seen in any auto brand. The large horizontal screen is fabulous (much better than the previous generation of Porsche infotainment screens, which really suck and look like they could be from the 1990s). I find the navigation to be very good (not excellent, but on a par with Google and with voice recognition of difficult street names and towns to be impressive). A really nice touch in my 2019 Macan (and my 2018 Panamera) is a dial below the infotainment screen that you can use to zoom in or out on the map -- much much better than trying to pinch the screen with your fingers or tap the "+" or "-" buttons while driving, and I can't overstate how wonderful this feature is to have. I really like the right-side digital display in the instrument panel, in which you can view numerous important items while driving, including tire pressure of each tire in psi, a diagram showing how much power is going to each of the four wheels at any given time, phone contact list that you can select from to call from your steering wheel, trip and mpg info, map showing where you are, oil level, and a configurable screen showing five items that allows you to choose between a bunch of different data, including date/time, outside temperature, 12-volt battery level, oil temp, engine temp, altitude above sea level, compass heading, etc. I like the myriad of buttons in the center panel (below the screen and surrounding the gear shifter) to be comforting to have in this era of putting too many climate controls and driving-mode controls into infotainment screens, and this version is much better than the haptic buttons now present in new Porsche models today (2022+). I would have preferred having a drive-mode dial on my steering wheel to go back and forth between normal and Sport mode (because the base Macan frequently benefits from having Sport mode on when accelerating to get onto an expressway or passing on a 2-lane road), but it costs a lot of extra money to get that option installed, and I could live with having the button awkwardly placed near the gear shifter only. Acceleration in my base Macan is very good, despite the only ca. 250 hp of my engine; the car's computers learn that I'm a fast driver and fast accelerator from stop, and it adjusts the mapping accordingly so that I have few complaints about the 4-cylinder not being peppy enough. I have not found the PDK automatic or manual gear shifting to be perfect in either my 2018 Panamera or my 2019 Macan, however -- very good but not excellent. I love that I could get this car with 18-inch wheels and an all-metal roof (again, areas where Porsche makes a lot of money from people ordering too-large wheels "for looks" and glass roofs), and that I wasn't forced to get auto-tinting rear-view mirrors (which I strongly dislike) or expensive quad tailpipes or all-leather seats or the so many other options that can easily double your starting MSRP, even in a base Macan. I also really like the overall driving stability of the base Macan (indeed, all Porsches!) at high speeds. They are built like tanks, and like the Volvos that we've also owned, I feel very safe in my Porsches. I like the 8-inch ground clearance in my Macan, one of the reasons that I traded in my second Panamera for it. I like that I can put my own SD card of music into the storage box between the front seats, to access my own free music whenever I want -- nice touch which I think Porsche is doing away with now, sadly, in its newer models. The standard LED headlights and tail lights are very attractive and excellent for night-time seeing. I wish, however, that Porsche would allow the infrared night-vision camera in the Macan (as it does in Cayenne and Panamera). My biggest wish of all is that Porsche would create a Macan E-Hybrid, as that would be the perfect vehicle for me. I've taken my Macan on multiple cross-country road trips (at least three of which were more than 6k miles roundtrip), and like my Panameras before it, it's a fabulous long road-tripper. And, unlike my Panameras, I can take the Macan off paved roads much more easily in places that I like to go in the unpopulated western US federal lands. There's not a lot to not like about my base Macan, other than that it's not a plug-in hybrid (which I'd prefer for local driving, in all-electric mode, with that abysmal 21-mpg gas range in-town). The 20-gallon gas tank is a huge plus, though, to keep from having to go to gas stations so often. And it's excellent that there's a spare wheel/tire standard, which I have had to use once, but I wish there was a full-size spare, not the dinky temp spare that you can only go about 40 mph on and for only a few miles. Overall I rate my 2019 Macan a 4.5 out of 5 stars. Value for the money, it gets an A+, with the limited options that I chose. It would get a 5 out of 5 (near-perfect) if it had an E-Hybrid (PHEV) drive train.

Fantastic car! Drives like a dream!
I am in love with my new car. I have been a Lexus buyer for 20 years and was afraid to switch. Lexus has always met every issue with professionalism. So far, I am loving the car. We will see how the Porsche dealers pan out. The Lexus dealer has a much better service area while you are waiting with food, massage chairs and drinks. Porsche could improve on that. We will see how the car holds up. All in all I am very happy with the purchase.

Great vehicle!
I had a loaded Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit before I traded. I hopped into the Macan and just really loved the feel. It handles well, and drives very nice. I actually liked my Jeep a lot, but was looking for a change. Sure there is additional expense associated to such a vehicle, but it is well worth it! I look forward to driving each day! Only downfall is that there is no remote start as an option. I usually forgot to use it on the Jeep so it wasn’t a breaker for me.

Porsche performance just with a bit less oomph
Very good car overall. Great interior, and exterior Infotainment is also great cornering and breaking are FANTASTIC for an SUV, better than many sedans Acceleration is good but not great If it is not in Sport mode it has poor throttle response and not great shifting. In sport mode it is super fun to drive, quick throttle response fast CVT trans with the option of quick paddle shifters. Even with the 4 cylinder turbo it is a blast to drive and will always pull if you need it to. Extremely stable and comfortable Feels almost too stable because you can be going 90 and think you are going 50-60 on the highway. The trunk space is ok but could definitely be better, same with the rear seats, but the performance is worth it. You definitely do notice the.3 seconds of turbo lag when flooring it from a stop but otherwise, you won't. Comfortable front seats. Good in most weather, and is great in the snow because of PSC and the good AWD system. Can do some basic off-roading if you need to (even has a mode for it). Would recommend it, but keep in mind it doesn't have the storage of most SUVs.

2020 Porsche Macan brakes squeal!
Hi, I purchased a 2020 Porsche Macan from Greenwich Porsche 4/21, with less than 20k miles. I drove the car and the brakes scream like hell and Greenwich as well as Fairfield Porsche is telling me that in stop and go traffic, due to high performance brakes that the brakes will squeal (sounds like 18 wheeler brakes) and this is common. I said okay. Although I was going to check with my many friends who NEVER said this about any Porsche, nor have I read this in any Porsche writeups. I feel Im being taken advantage of any my safety is being put in jeopardy!! I paid cash for this vehicle and it's been an uphill battle with this dealership! I haven't been able to enjoy my car! So, I'm searching to see if there are any complaints about Porsche Macan 2020 brakes or any Porsche brakes having this issue before I lose my temper and wring this guy's neck and file my complaints again. If anyone can assist me, please advise if this story is just that a tall tale.
