1999 Pontiac Grand Prix GT

I got this car with 62,000 miles on it. Said goodbye when it reached 105 K. The car had good performance by late 90s standards, best 0-60 I did was 8.2 seconds. Steering was decent, but pedal feel was mushy and the headlights were very poor. Fuel economy was mediocre, about 24-26 hwy. Ride quality was average. Liked the exterior styling, especially the tail lights. Interior was not very good, the door and dashboard panels were cheap. Poor assembly, each power window went out at least once, and flimsy cup holders. Besides the windows, other issues included an intake manifold problem, loss of ABS and traction control after a couple of years, and the stereo went out.

This car is a joy to drive! With the head's up display to the nice quality sound system. The car rides very well and handles 3 adults and 2 kids in good comfort and gets up and goes extremely well. The car is 7 years old and I must say it has held up well, Pontiac did a good job on this model. I give it 2 thumbs up for is looks too!

I love my '99 Grand Prix. It has great power for having over 115,000 miles on it. I have noticed a hole forming on the passenger side under the door and I have seen others with it too. Its an older car so I know its bound to happen, but it makes me sad because I love this car so much!! I recommend the Grand Prix if you want a sporty car with some power.

Grand Prix GTP - Best used car buy ever!

I use my car for business and do a lot of highway driving, so it makes sense for me to buy used and drive the car forever. My GTP has been my favorite so far! Fantastic acceleration, excellent handling and very comfortable heated leather w/ 8-way power seats. After 55,000 miles, I have has no major mechanical issues, leaks or failures. I put Michelin HydroEdge tires on it which made a dramatic improvement over the Goodyear Eagle LS tires with which it originally came. It returns about 18- 22 mpg city and 27-30 mpg hwy and still able to run high 14-second quarter mile times (comparable to stock Mustang GT performance). For the money, a well-maintained GTP is the best used car value!

Was the first in my town to purchase this brand new '99 Pont Grand Prix GT (white). I've had several things go out on it, but was mostly while under warranty. The shifter linkage worked it's way loose (5 times) had to be towed in. While getting a tune-up the mechanic noticed that the coils were burned so had to replace them. The computer went out and after returning the car to the mechanic 3 times he found that a frayed wire in the rear of the car was filling with water and running the length of the wire to the computer, shorting it out. I payed for the first computer but dealership paid for the second since they didn't locate the source of the problem. It has 160,000 original miles.

The '99 Grand Prix is a very exceptional car. It offers many options, and outperforms the competition in performance and style. I chose it because it's much easier to find, maintain, and buy than the foreign competition. I love my Prix GT.

Grew up with my father buying a 1990 SE 2 door and 1995 GTP 2 door new from the dealership. He would let me drive them once in a while when I was good - a giant leap up from my Honda Civic stationwagon I was stuck with during high school. Just bought a fire engine red 4 door SE and it handles almost TOO well, like I'm not supposed to be driving it, or I should be extra careful with it. Good times.

I purchased the 1999 Gold edition Grand Prix GT. Now with only 105,000 km that's right no error. I had to have the brake lines from the fire wall back all replaced. Was told Pontiac does not sell complete brake line assembly. That's a days work for the mechanic to install. The car has been undercoated also. The mechanic who did the job replaced all the brake lines in his 1999 Chevy pick-up. Unbelievable! For a 10 year-old car that's not even a daily driver. Now I have a hood release cable that doesn't work when its cold outside. If you can wrestle the hood open, afterward the hood will not close properly. Also I was warned to replace the rubber bush mounts (suspension), both left & right side.

Purchased it with 112K MI. Immediately had to fix the front axel, half a year later fuel pump went out, another half a year later torque converter had to be worked on (1500 price tag), breakes needed work too, then engine on the powerwindow broke. AC had to be fixed. Every time it rains water gets in the trunk and under the drivers sit. Windshield had to be replaced and since it has a display on it it was expensive! Now the torque converter broke again! And its only 143K now! I put in repairs more then I paid for the car! I never abused it, did all the maintenance and will never ever buy it again or recommend to anybody I know.

One of the best handling cars I have ever driven. Acceleration is great. Seat comfort is excellent. Only trouble I have had in 4 years is the computer control module for the transmission. It had to be replaced at 37000 miles. Since it was so close to the end of warranty, GM contributed a portion of the cost to replace this item. Exterior styling still attracts attention, even after 4 years.

This vehicle was purchased by me about three years ago. I have consistenly gotten 27 MPG. I drive my Grand Prix hard and it still runs like new. However, the whole Wide-Track gimmick is just plain lies. I have driven alot of cars that can out handle this car that aren't even GT's. .78 G on the skid pad is a joke. As far as braking goes, these cars are terrible. Noisy and innefective is what I call them. The engine is torquey and strong. It would be well suited for a 5 speed though. This has been a very reliable car, but I would not reccomend it to anyone. There are any number of import cars that are far superior to this car.

When I first bouhgt my car, I loved it. It was fast, reliable, fun to drive. Within the year that I had it, problems began to occur. I assumed that if I kept up the maintenance that I would have no worries. In chronological order: the motors in 2 windows went out, the fuel sensor had to be replaced, the LCD screen on the radio becomes illegible, the trunk light went out, the door panels are loose, the cup holders only fit one size of cups, sometimes it won't start up and now the transmission is slipping. For a car that's five years old, it sure doesn't hold up like one.

With 10 trips to the dealer to get a rattle in the dash fixed (which is still there), 3 HUDs and numerous other dash parts replaced, the build quality is poor. The door panels have also pulled away from the doors. The floor shift lever has broken twice. Look to the Europeons or Japanese for your next car.

Bought this car with 34k miles and currently have 122k miles. Overall has been a great car. Had to replace 1 fuel injector and the fan controller around 80k miles. Replaced both front wheel bearings (did myself) around 110k miles. The engine and tranny have been flawless other than the 1 injector. The car has good interior and trunk space and love the looks. Finally starting to get a few squeaks here and there, but then again it has been through 10 Iowa winters and summers.

The only bad experience I have had so far with my Grand Prix is that it is put together so cheaply. The interior doors panels need to be beat back into place a couple times a week. The dash and over head console have so many squeaks and rattles, it is enough to drive you crazy. I get great gas mileage, 24 avg. overall and the car has plenty of power for the average driver.

We bought this car 7 months ago and ABSOLUTELY love it!!! It was a one owner car and VERY well taken care of! Even the body man at the dealership couldn't believe it was a 1999. It looks sooo much newer!! It rides like a dream and the gas milage is unbelievable! We plan on driving her down to Florida soon! The only problem we have had was a wheel bearing in the drivers side go and that has been it!! We LOVE this car soo much and would DEFINITELY buy another one!! We LOVE it that much!! There really is NOTHING bad we can say about this car! SHE'S BEEN GREAT!!!

I bought the vehicle in a crunch situation, and now wish I would've never looked American. The imports (Honda, Toyota) are light years ahead in engine science and quality of interior and paint exterior. The foreign market holds value much better and for the amount of money I paid for the 3100 V6, I would rather buy a 6- cylinder V-tec in the Accord or the V- tec in the Prelude. Much improvement is necessary.

I wasn't hestitant at all when buying this car(GT 4dr sedan). I knew I was getting a car I could be comfortable in. Its big yet very quick, agile and comes with dual airbags for safety. So far I have been getting 24 to 25 miles per gallon, not sure if I am misreading other websites that claim 28 to 30. So far this car has given me exactly what I needed, comfort, acceleration, safety and did I say comfort.

I bought this car, and I am the 4th owner, but the car has been in the family since it was new. even with 120,000 miles on it, I get 22 mpg around town. The only complaint I have is that the interior door panels are falling apart, my rear speakers quit working, and like someone else reported, the doors are starting to bind against the body panels when opening. I easily solved that problem by putting WD 40 on the hinges. Now they open and close proper. I have had, nor has any previous owner had any issued with this car, engine, transmission, nothing. I know that car has been well maintained and has been treated gentle. Other than the interior quality, I like the car.

I just can't express my disdain for Christian's review (Edmund's editor). He obviously has a terrible impression of this car and has obviously been presented with a bad example. Maybe Edmund's was provided with a "tester's" example that had been flogged first by more "prestigious publications". I have not seen a Grand Prix that displays bad build quality, materials or design. The fit and finish are of great quality. "Harsh and un-refined"... The Grand Prix does indeed excite the senses. Everything from the sound of the engine, the firm yet supple ride and tactile feel of the controls - are all unique and appealing.

I bought this car thinking that it would last as long as our 94 Grand Prix. My cars are well maintained and checked regularly. This one didn't even make it to 100,000 miles. No warning from any of the sensors, no telling that anything was wrong until I looked at the temp guage and saw 250 degrees. After immediately pulling over, it was too late. The engine was cooked. Now I'm looking at a $3500 investment on a car that is valued $6500.

This car definitely served its purpose. Have 3 kids now so I'm going to have to get rid of it. Which kinda stinks. Even though I can fit 3 car seats in the back it's a little squished. Great power and pedal response. Lots more interior room than you would think just by looking at it and a lot of trunk space. The only problem I have had with it was the front brake rotors were warped when I purchased it but it only cost about $175 to have them fixed. Other than that this car has been awesome.

This car is easy to fall in love with. Unfortunately, it is also a piece of junk. I have been back to the dealer 3 times in 4 weeks because the car turns off while I am driving. Obviously, the dealer can't figure it out. Since I can't afford to keep paying the dealer to do nothing and I don't own a tow truck, I am going to buy a more reliable import even at the expense of less performance.

I love this car. The styling still looks great after five years. It's got all the power I've ever needed. I can place it anywhere in traffic that I need to thanks to that engine. The only issue I have is that since I've passed the 90,000 mile mark, I'm starting to have mechanical parts wear out every 4- 6 weeks. If the recent mechanical problems don't continue, I'll be thrilled to own this car for many more years. I wish they were still making this style Grand Prix!

I have had nothing but problems with this vehicle. It has been to the Pontiac service department 16 times and counting. The defroster does not function properly, which ahs been acknowledged by the dealership. They say it is the same on all Grnad Prixs - it is "normal." The dealership is unable to repair problems without numerous visits. What a disappointment this car has been!

I wanted this car for soooo long. I loved th power and styling. But the nitpicky problems have been annoying to say the least. I am on my 3rd window motor, 4th radio, the temp. control dial sticks, and the one door panel is loose. And, there isn't a dealer worth anything in my area. It also developed leaks that were expensive to repair. oh well. The car is only 3 years old... I dread what is next....

I bought my 99 Grand Prix GT mainly because of it's good looks. Still looks good! I got the four door model because I thought I might have a family one day. I have been pretty much happy with my GT. The trunk leaked, but they fixed that. The transmission started slipping on me after the 3 year warrenty was up. But recently I complained so much that they fixed it,(it had a bad throdel body in the tranny) even though it was out of warrenty.(5 years old, 36,000 miles). Now that the tranny is fix, (what a relief!) I'm happy. My GP seems to be put together pretty good for the most part. Hope it stays that way. It has been really good for an American car

I purchased this new with every possible option minus the CD changer. It is a low miles car (6K per year). The only problems have been window motor (couple times) and poorly operating seat heater. It does have a rattle in the dash. Engine performance and handling is great. I do wish that I got the supercharger in hindsight. Interior capacity is very spacious, and there are no complaints here. I would definitely buy from Pontiac again. With all of the creature comforts, engine power, exterior styling, good reliability, and relatively low price, you cannot beat this car.

The Grand Prix has 114,000 miles on it and still resembles a newer car. The 3.8L engine is undestructable and has never failed us! Just usual oil changes, and minimal problems. My dad will run this car until it can go no longer, which should not be anytime soon.
