grand prix SE
This car was ok, but had some issues and depreciated. Bought it in 02 for 7k and sold it in 05 for 1400 while in college. Issues were leaky weather stripping on the sun roof, would drip on me after rains. Gas gauge out (bad sending unit), a/c went out. Other than that major mechanical was fine and so was drivability.
Coupe in Sedan's Body
As I reviewed differing sedans in the 20K price range, I found that the base model of the GP boasted good power in its 200hp engine and a good ride. In 3+ years of ownership, the vehicle has been reliable and fun to zip through canyon roads on trips. While it's not a coupe, if you need room for kids, it will satisfy your need for speed.
GTdriver
Interior started slight rattling and buzzing after the first week. Great handling and power. Great leg room front and back.
good car
had very little problems with car and dealer fixed them under warranty. tires wore pretty fast about 32000 miles. ride quiet, no mechanical trouble, dependable.
BAD GTP
This is a great car for the money! Initially I wanted this car for the exterior looks and the fact that it was supercharged. This car is a beauty both inside and out. The inside has all the bells and whistles. I love the heads-up display. This car is unbelievably fast and FUN to drive. It has been very dependable w/ very little maintenance considering it now has 86,000 miles. I had a Taurus SHO before and this GTP is much more reliable. Also, it has excellent gas mileage for its size and engine. This car definitely makes a statement!
Slightly Disappointed
Overall, I have loved my GP GT. Style, fun, etc. However, after numerous trips to the shop (replaced rotors, tie rods ends, etc. more than once) am getting disappointed fast. Has numerous rattles on the inside and the door panels are not on tight. I hoped this would be a car that would last me 5 -6 years (150,000 - 180,000 miles) but we are getting ready to sell it just because of all of the little problems, rattles and fear of what's next. Won't won't buy another one. Have test driven the new model and it seems to have the same poor interior build problems.
GREAT CAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is an AWESOME VEHICLE!! You can't go wrong with a Grand Prix GTP! The interior is so comfortable, especially when equipped with leather and heated seats like mine!
Dependable, Powerful, Comfortable...
...What more could you want? My car has given me nothing but joy since I bought it. I commute 30 minutes to and from school every day, and this car makes it much more comfortable and fun than any other I have driven. It is fast, smooth, and very useful. I opted for the four door because it is more practical, but it is actually the same size and has the same looks as the coupe, just more convenient.
A little disappointed...
First of all I take very good care of my cars. I just wanted to say that first. I had the car a year and a half and had to have the transmission replaced. That took 4 trips and an act of congress to get that done. I actually had to go to a different dealer. The car just turned 3 and the CD play stopped working. To me there is no accuse for that. On the plus side, I love the way the car looks and handles. I hope Pontiac doesn't screw it up with the redesign in 03.
Very Reliable
This is far and away the best car I've owned. Recently the lighting behind one of the instrument panel displays went out. That is the first and only problem of any sort I've experienced with this vehicle and I've driven it for almost 3 years and put about 50,000 miles on it. The car is a pleasure to drive. Acceleration is outstanding, nearly on a par with Corvettes I’ve owned. Handling is good for a car of this size. It is not quite as nimble in city traffic and parking as a smaller car, but not enough so as to make driving to and from work unpleasant. We’ve found the car to provide more than adequate interior room to make long family trips pleasant.
Good Car
My experience has been a good one. The build quality is an issue with the fit and finish. It out-performs everything in its class regardless of cost. So trading a little quality for performance is what you have. My maintence on this car so far has been new tires and oil changes. I think this car is very good for what you pay. I don't see anything in it's price range then or today that I'd rather own. If your in the market my suggestion is test drive it. I thought of trading it in on a Maxima, I drove the Maxima and didn't like it!!! Also looked at a BMW 325 it needs more power and space.
It Sucks
I have had my Pontiac Grand Prix GT ever since I turned 16, 2 years ago. I have had many problems with it. My windows are broken and they fall down while going down the road. The headlights are so dim that it looks like I am driving down the road using a flashlight. The gauges don't work. My panels came off the inside of the car. After the fuel pump went out I have had NOTHING BUT TROUBLE out of it. I have been stranded on the side of the road at least 6 times within 3-4 months. I have seen that only the GT's are getting the bad reviews, and I know why! My cousin has a GTP and he has no trouble out of his, but my GT sucks. Everything is wrong with this car!
Sleeper
Nice to be sitting next to a fart can car at a stoplight. Then leave them sitting there wondering what is that old man driving??? Some of the newer "performance" cars (challenger, mustang, camaro, etc) are puzzled as well...

Grand Prix A.K.A Tranny Problems
I love this car but hate it at the same time. The car really is a eye catcher. This is my 2nd prix first one (96)tranny went out at 110k, my current one went out 111k and then went a 2nd time at 135k. I almost forgot I was told the 99 Prixs only fit 99 trannys. Fun fun. The frames on them are crap so if you wanna add more horsepower good luck on not cracking the frame. Headlights fog up with dirt. Good luck getting up any hills in the snow without all 4 studded tires.
My Blue Bird
I have a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix SE with the 3.8 Liter motor and I have to say it is a fast car, for being just the SE anyways. I've gotten up for 115mph in under 10 seconds! Engine has oil pressure problems anyone know why? other than that the only thing that has gone wrong is I had to replace a window regulator which is typical for any car these days. Oh and did i mention mine only has 47,000 miles and it is 13 years old!
1999 Grand Prix 2 Dr. coupe
Has been a great car. Well equiped, ok power, great handeling and road manners. This car has lots of leg room in the front and back and is a great family car. I've owned Z-28's and Trans Am's and would have liked another performance car and split the differance between performance and a family with this car. The $4000 for the GTP version is to much money for 40 horsepower.
Where's the quality?
This car has been nothing but a pain since I bought it. I've had to replace 2 window motors, a transmission (100,000 miles), blower control module, blower motor, stabilizer bar, and now the CV joints are going bad. When it rains hard you get water the car and trunk. Almost impossible to change the spark plugs yourself. Interior components are cheaply made and designed. The gas mileage is unimpressive. The front doors have started to rub the fender when you open them!! I find it disturbing when i go tot he junkyard to get parts that there's an abundance of Grand Prix to get parts off of. I will never buy another GM product.
My Red Pontiac Grand Prix!
I love my car. It is red w/the 3.8 V6 and the decklid spoiler! I love to drive it everywhere. I always get compliments. My car has 77,000 miles on it and I get asked if it is brand new. It has ice cold A/C w/ 5 air vents! I would never trade it in for anything but another new designed Grand Prix. I feel safe and more than comfortable. I was once at a stoplight next to a new mustang, Sorry, but I left him and his pony in the dust!
I wish I could use my window!
I bought my Grand Am in 2000 with 5,000 miles on it. It was all fine until 2003. If you have automatic windows they are terrible. All that hold them in place is a piece of plastic. Which through all the hot weather in TX make it weak and they break. You of course can't buy just the plastic piece that breaks you have to buy a whole motor replacement which cost between $80- $150. I had to replace both of them within two years of each other. Also the Door just mysteriously started not to open. The rear-view mirror fell off and the headlight bulbs are a pain to change. Also the transmission fliud has to be changed at a dealership.
Great Car
This car is a blast to drive
Pretty good first car!
I was looking for a car in the range of 3000-4500 dollars for my first car and this one my dad said would be awesome! And it is!
Detail of My first car
I have had my car for two years. It is my first car and I love it. I think that it has great pick up and most cars can't even keep up. I love the body style I think that it looks very sporty but yet is very comfortable. My next car is definitely going to be a Pontiac!
Excedllent used car, fun to drive!
I needed another car, wasn't in a position to buy a new car right, saw this car and liked it right away. I've always liked the Grand Prix, they look so darn good. I've only had mine for a couple of months but so far I have put about 1500 miles on it and have had no problems with it even though it is a 9 year old car. The previous owner took care of it and I love to drive it. It has power when I need it. It is roomy enough for my three children, it feels like a big car on the inside but it is sporty looking on the outside. It burns more gas than my previous car, which is to be expected since my Mazda was a 4 cylinder and this is a V6. I just love this car.
