Used 1996 Pontiac Bonneville Consumer Reviews
They don't make 'em like this any more.
Now turning 169,000 miles going on 7 years, I must part with my reliable SE steed. Nothing really big wrong, but the fuel pump died at 158K, and its time to do the brakes, and struts, and well you get the picture. Eventually even the best get tired. I'm torn though this is just about the most fun, and reliable car I've ever owned.
Green Machine
I bought it about eight months ago for $4,900 It had 117K on it and I've put about 10K on it since I've had it. I was woried about the high miles at first, but I have'nt seen a sign of trouble. It's very comfortable and fun to drive!

It Compensates for Its Shortfalls
Bought this car almost 3 years ago with 100k for $3800. It just went over 200K. Great car and comfortable to drive. Engine still strong. Transmission started to shimmy at about 72 MPH at 145K and transmission company said it should be changed right away, letting off the gas solves the issue and it's been running fine without changing (flushed changed tranny fluid again at 50K). One frustrating issue has been that the car stalls or won't start all of a sudden. I brought it to the dealer and other places and of course the issue doesn't appear. It will start back up in a minute or so. This issue happens so randomly. It can go 2 months without happening and then happen once a day for a month.
Can't stop it
This is my 3rd Bonneville and I couldn't be happier, currently at 346000 miles with little trouble. I did have to replace transmission at 289000 miles but a use one has served me well since. A number of pulleys and belts 2 water pumps an egr valve and a fuel pump struts are the repairs I have done (well brakes and tires, but they are a given) Infallible car, dependable and comfortable. I will be sad when it is gone but I am replacing it at 400000 miles.
