Love the Nana car
I bought my Aurora a year ago at an auction, I am only the second owner and it had 90,000 miles on it when I bought it. We were not in Modesto on preview day, so did not even know if it ran, but it was in such pristine condition and had such low mileage I took a chance. I paid $3000 for her, and she started right up and i have been in love ever since. This car looks as good as it did the day it left the showroom and while the in-town mileage is not very high, on the highway she gets between 27-34 mpg. My son the mechanic says with the low mileage I put on it and timely maintenance it should last me many years.
I Love Her
I do love my car. She drives like a dream, she has all the little extras I wanted. I am 2nd owner & have had for nearly 10 yrs. Yes I have had to have some repairs and they were costly but to me worth it. ^The only problem Ive had is the radio/cd/cassette. I have purchased 2 new ones and both times the cassette has went out. And ever since I've had my girl she about every 3 to 4 wks I have to put 2 qts. of oil in. She doesn't leak oil or smoke. But it goes somewhere. Also the paint has flaked off really bad and I have noticed this in oter same year model Aurora's. She gets average gas mileage. I think I'll keep her. She's paid for and she has been good to me. Again I love my car.

Best Car I Ever Owned
I absolutely love this car. I was very disappointed when it was discontinued. When I look at its styling, it still outshines today's newer cars. Yes it is more expensive to maintain; but cheaper then buying a new car.
I miss my Aurora!
I love this car however I don't have it anymore, but given the chance again I would go back to a V8 Aurora any given day. This car had every thing and It satisfied my need for 'power' and speed' performance was good enough for me.The 250 hp is great I have raced other cars who just thought this was an ole man car? oh man they were surprised. this is the only V8 car that I would purchase used again and again. pure American horsepower. i'm going to get another one really soon.
Great Car
A great car have had since new,23years and 138,000 miles, nice style, power, good ride. No major issues, except leaks oil, minor trim issues with rubber seal around trunk, mirror comes loose and costs ~$600 to change plugs/wires. Had A/c compressor changed 3 times ( no charge, life time warranty). Replace radiator last year , small pin hole leak in side tank! Real process but doeable if done in proper sequence, available on line! Thus year replaced coils, wires and spark plugs It is an antique now, use it occasionally during summer at Lake Almanor CA! Runs great, near perfect condition ,always garaged Would sell for $4,000!

One of the best ever
I am getting 32.5 mpg. I started in a town. Call Hopkins SC a drove to South Bronx New York 77 north to 81 north to 33 east 80 west. Fill the car in SC $4.00 a gal $68.00 to fill up. At 65 mph with air conditioning, NC, VA, WV, MD, PA.645 miles on 15 gal of fuel. Left Pa going to Bronx for the day. Left and went to up state NY to a town call Becon for the day. Left and went to Paterson NJ.1000 mile later I have spend a total of $122.50.
I bought a good car
The car just ran and ran for me and I only kept the fluids changed in it. People always asked to buy it. I know a guy his trans went out and a lady went to the shop 4 times each time it cost her 1000 guess I just got a good one. It had 107k mi on it when I bought it. Outside still looks good. I believe you have to be careful who you get to work on any car. Ask them if they really know how to repair this or am I going to have to keep bringing it back to you ask if they recommend someone who knows more about your auto. And look them in the eye tell them you don't mind paying as long as they really fix it right please don't have me coming back just to milk my wallet.
very nice car ,but to many things go wro
This is a very nice car , I have had this car for a little over 6 mo. and have had several problems A/C compressor came apart, the lights flash on and off (sometimes) when the car is in the drive way by them self, Keyless entry quit working (reprogramed, one of them work now)the air on drivers side is about 15- 20 deg. warmer than passenger side. This car has way to much high tech electronics that has not been tested over time. iv talked to severl owners of these cars with the same problems, also the Battery is an odd size only one that fits is a/c delco vented 135 bucks , and the tires are an odd size to ,had to order .
Great Car.....but
This is by far one of the best cars I have owned. Great fun to drive, comfort, speed, everything. However, when ever one needs repairs, and it does, it's a minimum of $600.00. It is in the shop now because the lights flash on and off, disco style (interior and exterior)until you disconnect the battery. The Aurora club says its the BCM (body control module) the dealer says its the Headlight Switch. If this car weren't so perfect in every other way it would be gone!
?
The car drives smoothly and has plenty of power. I have no problems except for the fuel injectors went out at 120,000
Reliable, at a price
Purchased used in 2002 with only 23K miles. Has been a great vehicle. Only complaints are the pricey repairs that started at about 84K, A/C, electrical problems, Oil pan seal (requires transmission removal to replace seal) MPG 19-20 City, up to 32 Hwy.
My Dog
I think this car is great. I have had very few problems with it. Some friends of mine went out and got the same car, and one problem we all have is the back window seal leeks. Other than that they are some nice cars.
Last of the Oldsmobiles
This car is all I expected out of it. I like the gas mileage on a long trip, I averaged over 31.5 MPG on a 3500 mile trip. The overall ride and handling of the Aurora is great. Your not worn out at the end of a long day driving. No doubt one of the best cars Olds made in the 90's
Awesome Car
This is such a great car! It has so much power. It rides so nice. My wife and I love it. The only problem I have found is that the door windows leak in the car wash. With the water sprayed straight at them they leak in all four top corners. I feel that now that we have had one Aurora I hope that we can keep this for a long time. We love it!
makes you WANT to drive
this car is great fun. the interior styling is my favorite part of the car. it is very quiet, no wind noise, and the northstar engine delivers smooth power through all rpm ranges. the comfort level and driveability of the aurora is outstanding. this is a machine that you have to drive to appreciate. a test drive and you are hooked
Wish I could find another one!!!!!!!!!!!
The Aurora is one of the most stylish and comfortable automobiles I've ever owned. Mine now has 86000 miles on it and is 6 yrs old and the thought of buying something else, is unimagineable. In the three years I've owned it, I've done nothing more than tires, gas, brakes and oil. Superb Car !!!!!!!!!!!!
road warrior
comfort, styling, easy to handle... occasional electrical anomolies... but fun to drive... would buy another...
Outstanding Car
This is the best car that i have owned. Cannot believe it is american made. Gas mileage is around 26- 30mpg/highway doing 75-80mph. Runs like a raped ape. If it breaks it is a little costly. Stay away from the dealers. You take it in for one thing and they find 25 more things they say are broken. Very minor problems with the car since i have owned it. Highly recommend it to anyone. That is the old style Aurora. I can't part with mine just yet, and i have a 119,00 mile on it. GM needs to bring this style back.
Love My Aurora
Love my Aurora, I have had this car for over 3 years. It is a great road car & fun to drive the stereo is wonderful.
Aurora - but not for everyone!!
While shopping for a replacement for my Mark VII, the Aurora just stole my heart! It is a blast! I love everything about the car. It is expensive to repair, and regular maintainance is a must. No more so than any other luxury or sports car, so that shouldn't be a turn-off. Keep the car up, and enjoy!!
1997 Aurora
What a great car, with all the features, you need the manual just to learn them all. You can't buy a better car for the money. Mine was totaled in an accident and I am thinking about buying another one.
Aurora-man
I have had the car two months, and it is even better than I expected. For an 8 year old vehicle, it is tight, fast, smooth and really fun to drive. Everything works, and this car is loaded. Even the paint has held up well and there are no flaws from production that I could find. I wish I had bought one sooner.
Hate to let it go~~~~~~~~~~~
Having been an oldsmobile owner for almost three decades, it is hard to change. I have owned nine different models, with the aurora being my favorite. The first generation is great, with the v8 Northstar, now with 162,000 miles, and still going strong! Wish GM would have axed the buick instead.
1997 Autobahn Aurora
My 1997 Oldsmobile Aurora is the best, fastest car that i've ever been in. It had 365 horses when i got it. I did a few mods and am now pullin 450 horses for only about $200 dollars worth of work. I put smaller tires on it, 225 instead of 235. It's a great car! This is definitely the coolest car GM has ever made.
Great Automobile
This car, in my opinion, is very underrated. It has luxury and performance second to none. I would choose this car any day over any of the foreign performance/luxury cars. The build quality of this car, even after 8 years, is unbelievable. I have owned Hondas and Nissan Maximas and I don't think their quality is as good as the Aurora.
Import Killer
The Oldsmobile Aurora is good old American horsepower and luxury combined into one sleek package. It is absolutely the finest car I have ever driven, and I have owned many over the years, both domestic and import. With over 100,000 miles, this car is still as solid as new, not a rattle to be heard.
The '97 Olds Aurora
This car has been great. Mine has 220000 Km. on it.
just purchased
i just bought an aurora 97 with 106k miles it's a very nice looking car, love all the features in it. this car runs very smoothly and fast i only had it for a few weeks now and hope to keep it for a long time.
not your fathers olds
this vehicle is great I love it I get 30 miles per gallon on the highway, a lot better that a suv and its very comfortable
Paid too much, but love the car
Car drives like a dream, It is costing me a fortune to drive, but the ride is smooth and it handles beautifully. I went shopping for a good used Taurus, and only test drove it because I thought it was pretty, but once I drove this machine, I was sold. I paid 4800.00 which was probably too much, but I love this car.
So many good things and so many bad!
I bought this car when it had about 75k miles on it and drove it for a year to about 89k miles. I loved the highway acceleration and the sound of the beautiful engine and quiet comfortable interior. However the rear seal on the engine leaked oil onto the exhaust manifold just under the engine which was a serious fire hazard and after paying $3000 TWICE, the problem was not fixed. Just after that a head gasket was blown. I traded it in as soon as I could!
Dont Buy this Junk
You would think a $36,000 car would be reliable. Unfortunately, this is not the case. The radio broke (right after it came back from the dealer), the fuel regulator broke, (after a recall to fix the fuel rail), and the ignition broke after I had gone the dealer to have a computer check that will fix it.
Couldn't Pay Me to Own Another
This car had so much potential! It has a very powerful 4.0L V8 engine, and a tranny that suited it, but the quality is garbage. I owned mine for over three years and I couldn't tell you how much I spent in repairs if I wanted to. Everything is expensive, not just a little expensive either! GM had problems with their paint/primer during that generation resulting in a class action lawsuit (my car looked terrible like someone keyed it- but no one did). I had suspension problems, fuel delivery/injection problems, electrical problems, cooling system problems, and more! If GM would have stepped up the quality, I'd have bought three of these, because they are a blast when they're running, but they didn't. Oh well...
poor handling
Nice car with plenty of power, but lacks handling. Hard to park, so-so ride, and depreciates rather quickly. I am only 5'11" and I find the headroom to be inadequate. Anyone over six feet tall would not be able to drive the vehicle. Also, the A/C just went out after 54,000 miles.
Oh, the troubles I've seen!
I bought my Aurora 2 years ago. It has been one thing after another. Two alternators @ $350.00 a piece, a radiator @ $600.00, fuel rail @ $250.00, not to mention the tune-up at 100,000 miles that costs you almost $500.00, Odd sized tires that cost more than normal. Don't get me wrong, It Is a beautifull vehicle, gets darn good gas millage for a 4 liter V-8(26 mpg) but, If something breaks, better hope you have a mechanic in the family somewhere. The dealership I bought the vehicle from wasn't very helpfull either. They basically told me that the car was MY problem now! Good Grief! Good Luck to any future Aurora buyers!
VERY UNDER RATED
Extremely good handling, and very fast. Surprisingly good fuel millage for the cars weight and performance. Oldsmobile sold this model at a loss, until changing body style in 2000. I am told that Oldsmobile sold the Aurora at a loss, so they could meet the minimum requirements of sales so GM could use the engine at Indy. This is a vehicle that you love to drive. The power and handling are very addictive. The interior is very plush and extremely quiet. This car does everything well. Parts and repairs can be very expensive, like all luxury performance vehicles, but WELL WORTH IT !!!!!@

Don't think I'll ever part with this classic
I was the second owner when I bought her in 2000, she had 82k on the odometer. She turns 25 next year and has 212k on the odometer at present. She has a minor oil leak and the check engine light comes and goes, but she is regularly serviced and my mechanic takes good care of her. She has a few dents and scratches, mostly due my husband... But I don't plan on parting with her and it's fun seeing people trying to figure out what she is. Those that recognise her, are mostly people who once had one, and they all said they wished they had kept theirs. I just hope she keeps going as long as I do....

Worlds most expensive lawn ornament!
I was warned and didnt listen! My Aurora has been one headache after another. Well $5000 and ALMOST a year after I bought it, there it sits in the driveway, day in and day out. Why you ask? Because the wonderful aluminum Northstar engine WARPED and is leaking antifreeze into the engine. But I must give it credit it LOOKS fast. I just went out and bought a Maxima yesterday. Now my husband and I are trying to figure out what to do with the lawn ornament that doesnt even water the grass! BE WARNED DONT BUY THESE CARS. When they are running they are wonderful but they are WAY to expensive to fix CONSTANTLY!
piece of crap
If someone is honestly thinking about purchasing one of these automobiles, think again!!! This has to be honestly one of the worst cars GM has ever built! Along with its crappy interior the ride sucks, thats if u get it started!! This is really a pile of crap!!!!
Open hood, insert wallet
Car drives like a dream. However, it has not proven at all reliable. All repairs are big ticket items; super expensive! The aluminum block v-8 is a particular disappointment. Runs like a champ ... but a complete reseal at 100,000?! That poor engineering, and it will cost you $3000.
Poor Quality Car
My Aurora at 57,000 miles it needed a new air conditioner compressor and then the aluminum Northstar V8 engine block cracked and the emgine has to be replaced. When they are running they are great but they are WAY too expensive to fix CONSTANTLY!
