A Great Vehicle!
Have had my Xterra 14 months now and it is doing great! I keep hearing people complain about gas mileage-but I get 20 mpg with the V6 and 5spd manual, which is excellent for a veh with high ground clearance, full steel frame, steel skid plates, true roof rack and 16" wheels & tires!
THE BOMB!!!
THIS XTERRA IS THE BOMB! IT HAS THE BEST PICK-UP W/THAT NEW SUPERCHARGER. IT'S NICE BEING THE FAST VEHICLE FOR ONCE. I RECCOMEND THIS VEHICLE TO ANYONE.

Fun, Fun, Fun,Fun, FUn
This is the all time best SUV I've ever driven. It handles like a car more than a truck. I love the off road ability I now have. The team at North Texas Nissan was great the sales person Wendt really knew her stuff. This car get two thumbs up from me
Only the best SUV there is...
What's great about the Xterra are the different exterior colors that are offered... many other SUVs come in just the conventional/traditional/"boring" colors and it is a remarkable experience driving around my brand new Xterra - the car does not seem to blend in with all the rest of them on the road.
Fun and reliable at the same time
I have thoroughly enjoyed driving my Xterra over the past year. It is very sturdy and a reliable mode of transportation. It's fun to drive at the same time. The 2002 model has new front end which I really liked before I made my decision.
Lovin It!!
I just got my X yesterday and had to do some driving. After puting on 400 miles in just under 24 hours I have to say I love this thing. It rides like a truck but fells really steady in the turns. I like the acceleration and the access to all guages and accessories. Gas milage is an issue at todays prices, but what the hell!! You only go around once. Overall, very happy with my choice.
tasty mean black machine
this choice is a prime grade A choice,I drove test this truck on paved and off road and handled great on both terrains.when test driving one make sure you go thru your normal driving habits, and don't be afraid to treat it like a truck, because that's what it is, a truck with a suv body, which every suv should be. rough and tumble, I got the XE 2WD 5 speed, super black, which kicks, so far so good. buy one if this is what you are looking for in a suv, but if you want a sissy-like suv that drives like a car, look somewhere else.
A great off road truck
I have own the Xterra for almost a year and I go everywhere with it. I bought this truck for Off-road and 4X4 driving as well as to serve me and my wife. The truck is GREAT. High capability and great ground clearance. Good transmission and performance. The seat could be better, they dont give you much to play with even thou my is full loaded. The 6 CD in dash FM-AM radio with RDS system is great and the 6-speaker system has a good sound. The instruments panel is not a good point for the Xterra. It is hard to read and if you tilt the steering wheel down you cant see the signaling lights.
Truck Build to last
This truck is a looker. It has more to it than plin rugged looks. Its Xtreamely capable off the road. It has take me to the trails personality. It has the Nissan reliability and the proven and tested old Pathy engine.
02 Xterra SE 2wd
Looks great and is fun to drive, but a little uncomfortable for long rides. The legroom in the back is cramped and the width of the front seats could stand to be a little wider.
XTerra
I feel that the XTerra is the most bang for the buck. Interrior space is wonderful for a mid-size SUV. The lack of power for the 4-cylinder engine is not worth the cost savings. Get the 6 cylinder, super charged engine.
XTERRA
This is my second XTERRA, and it is absolutely the finest SUV I have driven. I very much enjoy Nissan reliabity, styling, and performance. Two exceptional characteristics of my XTERRA are the automatic transmission and computerized, road sensing, braking system.
AN SUV that is really an SUV
While primarily driven by my wife, I have had the opportunity to spend 8 weeks as the primary driver. The vehicle looks great, is made well, and has a fantastic audio system. Its an SUV in the truest form of an SUV. This vehicle is not for everyone, but we have enjoyed it for what it is. A truck based...SUV.
2002 Xterra
I love my car.
Good and Bad
I love the truck, but I am disappointed with what I have. The design of the interior and the exterior are great, very distinct. But the quality of the Nissan is disappointing. There are so many little things that have gone wrong that you wouldnt expect in todays market. The gas mileage is aweful, but the ride is comfortable on the parkway.
Love my X!
This is a great truck. The S/C is a blast to drive. I feel like I could drive over anything, and this truck is very reliable and safe. Very roomy, and a slick looking truck. I love it!
mom43bz
watch out for rear window switches abs light may not come on while it is malfunctioning
xterra se super charged
well this is a truck.but with alot of power.the super charger helps alot.its a beauty.alot of people look.and it is a rarity too.really bad on mileage.and the trim fades after a while from common useage.but all in all its a terrific truck.
x-terra
i love the car
BEST BANG FOR YOUR BUCK
I test drive many vehicles before I purchase. I am in no way an impulse buyer. This is one of the fun to drive SUVs, which provides the most utility for your dollar. Plenty of room in the back. 4 whel drive is superb. Recently, we had 24" of snow fall in my area. This SUV cut through the snow like a hot nife through butter. No problem what so ever. Highly recommended.
Love this SUV
This SUV is tight. This truck does not lack power even though it's a 4 cylinder. It's geared for low end power so it's not too much fun in stop & go but I've proven it can climb hills with ease. Excellent control in snow without 4x4 also. I was already rear ended and slambed into the car infront of me. The car behind went under and only damaged the bumper. This truck is SAFE! I owned a Nissan truck before this with the same 2.4 motor for 12 years. 198,000 miles and it was a performer with no problems. Sold it to a friend and he loves it.
Xterra is the best value for the $$
We have had this truck for about a month now and it is awesome! I love the looks although I liked the square headlights on the older models better. It is very comfortable to drive, the turning radias is outstanding compared to my previous vehicle (Dodge Dakota). I wish I had gotten the supercharged engine now after driving it about 2500 miles. Storage is an issue. There are not many cubby holes to put things.
OVERPRICED
THIS VEHICLE IS VERY OVERPRICED. IT IS 24 GRAND AND DOESN'T EVEN HAVE MIRRORS ON THE BACK SIDE OF VISOR. IT ALSO RIDES LIKE A LOG TRUCK. VERY ROUGH. THIS VEHICLE MIGHT BE WORTH 19 OR 20 GRAND. VERY DISAPPOINTED.
Sluggish '02 XTerra
Vehicle looks great and is fun to drive. The Solar Yellow turns alot of heads as well! It is perfect for my lifestyle with the real-truck features I need with relative comfort for its class. Not much pep, however. It is sluggish on acceleration.
The Intimidator/XTERRA
This is my second XTERRA and by far the best vehicle I have owned. I bought the XTERRA because it reminded me of the Nissan Patrol I drove when working in Saudi Arabia in 1992-1993. The XTERRA is the intimidator of SUVs, looks tough and is tough. It has very good lines, good performance, and the tighest turning radius...probably second to the military version of the Hummer. I very much like the reliability built into the vehicle...get in and go. My XTERRA served me well during the major snow storm last February in Washington DC...I had a blast plowing through snow drifts and going where other vehicles dare not go.
ITS GOOD
EVERYTHING THAT HAS GONE WRONG HAS BEEN SIMPLE LITTLE ITEMS THAT HAVE BEEN IXED QUICKLY WITHOUT REPERCUSSIONS
Why I love Nissans--Xterra is Tops!
Xterra is AWESOME. I love the power, the styling--everything. I even get good gas mileage. I averaged 330/mpg in my Maxima; now I'm at 300. I LOVE the turning radius, the extra space, dual cupholders and the multiple outlets. Sunroof could be better and I don't like the two non-knobs next to the power outlet above the radio. My sometimes only regret is that I didn't get the SC, but there were none in my color choice when I went to purchase.
Great Vehicle
2002 Nissan Xterra with just the enthusiast package manual tranny and V6 and i love it. silver ice paint and manual hubs up front. this vehicle is extremely solid built better than my old ford and rides better. V6 is really strong especially with manual tranny, 4x4 capabilities are very inspiring. lots of cargo room and tons of cool storage and neat nooks and crannies to put stuff. this vehilce is really the best fit for people looking for a rugged reliable vehicle to go and have so real fun with.
Nissan Xterra
fun to drive; always
A real SUV on today's market
I felt in love with this SUV when I first saw it. The style is just so cool. There are no many SUV on today's market. First of all, let me say this, to me there is no such thing as a luxury SUV. A SUV is a SUV. A Sport Utility Vehile to handle the tasks that you want to do. . That is why I like the Xterra. No leather seat and those luxurious nonsense. A true SUV!
Great car
Great car to drive, great wd system, safe due to the ways it sits high
Nothing like an xterra
The Nissan xterra is well worth the money. This suv has it all. The gas milage is a pain but the xterra is overwhelming. Its a must has suv.
SENORS SPENDER
Had a good run with it until 80k then the check engine lights starting glowing bright. O2 and knock sensor failed. Knock sensor lives inside the engine so yeah, big repair bill. All said and done it was a $1200.00 bill to fix two stupid little "make your engine run fun" gadgets. I can out run it on the onramps but, I'm not considering that a big deal. I finally got to where it needed brakes at 75k - I thought that was incredible! All in all, it's been pretty good. Hope to get another 80k out of it. Truck still drives and rides like it did when it was new. No problems outside of what I mentioned earlier
Xterra 2000
For the price it's a excellent SUV 4x4.I have had my Xterra XE for a couple of years & not a single problem. The interior dash & trim is pretty basic but the seats, stereo is nice.I had a 1994 4Runner previously & the ride of the Xterra is at par.I really like the exterior design of the Xterra.I have brought the Xterra off- roading a few times & it's great. Overall great SUV!!
My Xterra
I love my Xterra, but am thinking of trading it in for a new car after our recent ice storm. I know that all cars have problems on ice, but I could not even get traction in my driveway. I felt very unsafe in it even after the roads cleared a little. The noise from the road is bothersome while on highway. Should come equipped with rainguards on the window. Basic interior, awesome exterior. Really sporty and fun to drive. Hard to clean interior for messy drivers (like me).
Great choice
I bought this vehicule several months ago and have been extremely happy with it so far. Before the purchase I spent about 3 months doing some pretty extensive shopping around. In the end, I bought it for several reasons: A high reliability rating by consumers and magazines alike, it's ability to tow heavy loads, it's flexibility in use (large cargo area and seating area, and because I found it to be one of the nicer looking mini SUV's on the market.) I get constant positive feedback on it's looks, ride (despite it is based on a truck platform) and flexibility of use.
Family of Xterras
purchased this 2002 Xterra, 11 months after purchasing the previous years model for my wife. I have driven many miles in this Xterra, shooting photos at race tracks across America. It has has been down some of the roughest roads, and not skipped a beat. The (e)Xterior, when washed, looks as good as the day I drove it off the lot. I even use it to pull a cargo trailer at times. Before the trailer, we amazed ourselves at how much equipment we could fit in the back with the seats folded down. Highway mileage is about 18-19 mpg. Not what I expected when I bought the first Xterra, but actually an improvement over the 2001 model.
Nissan
Not bad but heavy on gas!!!
Love My Hot Lava
When looking for a 4x4 I saw this Xterra siting on the used car lot and fell in love. I have liked the body style since they first came out. Even thought i love the yellow and silver I opt for what they call Molten Lava. I nicknamed her Hot Lava. It was the only car I test drove or even looked at and bought her that night. I traded in a 1999 Cavalier Z24 which I loved but Hot Lava is slowly winning over my heart. I like all the room but hate the lack of power when passing or taking off from a stand still the one thing I do miss from my Z24. Overall I'm happy with my choice and hope to have many good years together.
Great Buy!
This vehicle has all of the functionality you look for in an SUV. Great 4x4 performance and ground clearance, nice features, rugged, and extremely low maintenance. In the course of 2 years I have changed the windshield wipers! Highly recommend!!
Alright 4 the $$$
I was thrilled when I purchaced a new sporty 2002 yellow Xterra. The exterior is awesome and the ride is so smooth. I am however very displeased with the lack of power and poor gas mileage.
AWESOME RIDE
Love the new xterra,,,,very smmoth driving,,,looks are exceptional S/C gives it lots of GET E UP....... Goes where ever you want to.
02 X
Picked up my Xterra in Aug 03' as a certified used. I have put about 16,000 miles on it since then and have had absolutly no problem with it. Very affordable, low maitenence vehicle. Lots of fun to drive. Rugged truck with the feeling it could go just about anywhere.
Great 4wd Beach Vehicle
Just an fyi for any interested. I have been driving on the Outer Banks Beaches for almost 20 years. My Xterra is as good a beach vehicle as you can ask for. Avon, Buxton, Oregon Inlet, it will go... NO PROBLEM. 20 lbs of air in those 265/60/16's and this vehicle is great on the beach.
My X!
Wow, talk about an all around well built truck. The Xterra takes the cake. Test drove and SE and I went home with an XE with the powerpack option on it. I love it. Gets average MPG, but other than that its the best thing I have ever owned!
Thisrty machine...
I bought the X new in 2001 - First S/C on the lot. I was impressed with the off-the-line acceleration and overall looks (drastic improvement over previous models). Overall it has been a good vehicle, performed beyond it's means off road (Yes I do own another 4x4 to compare it to...) and has proved reliable in day to day use. I use it to tow a 4,500Lb boat on weekends - No sweat...until I try to pass a gas station. Best mileage to date 16mpg. Average 13mpg. Worst (towing) 9.8mpg. As well, power is great around town but trying to pass on the freeway does not net the same surge in acceleration. I look forward to the 2005's - MORE POWER !
All4 Xterra
Since I have bought the Xterra I have been nothing but Xtactic with it....
Awsome
Great Car! The Best!
My X
This is a great all round "real" SUV. "REAL" as in built on a truck design and not a car or car-like desing like the other mini-suvs out there. Fun to drive and even more enjoyable when shifting into 4x4 and putting the X to good use.
Love My Xterra
I have now lived with my X-Terra for 5 weeks. So far I have no major complaints. I got the most bang for my buck with the X-Terra. The handling is not as bad as everyone says, it is quite nimble for a truck. Low to mid range acceleration (to 45mph) is good, but the curve flattens at high speeds. Gas mileage isn't great, but then I knew that when buying the X. Passed on the supercharger which you have to feed premium gas. Great daily driver, great people and gear haule, good looks ...what more can you ask for?
