2016 Nissan Versa Note 1.6 SL 4dr Hatchback (1.6L 4cyl CVT)

First, the Versa Note is almost totally unrelated to the other Versa models. It's a different platform that is more solid and much better looking. When you close the doors, you hear a nice muffled 'thunk', not the tinny clank of most economy cars. The whole car feels very tight, and is extremely quiet inside, with no squeaks or rattles and little tire and wind noise. The interior is simple, but the materials all feel sturdy and look attractive, which is standard for Nissans. I traded in a 2005 Sentra with 108K miles, and the cloth interior of that car still looked just like new. The Note's interior is very spacious, especially for such a small car, with plenty of leg room in the back seats for two adults. The cargo area is adequate, with a floor that can be positioned at two heights, and the rear seatbacks fold down almost flat. Unlike most cars these days, the rear side windows roll all the way down and out of sight in the doors. The car handles extremely well, and stops on a dime. In order to make it good great mileage, however, Nissan put a very small engine in it, combined with a CVT transmission that is programmed to save gas. As a result the car is not a pocket rocket, although the acceleration is adequate. Going up Nine-Mile hill at 75mph with the AC on is a strain, but otherwise the car can keep up with traffic pretty well. I've found that a gentle pressure on the gas pedal will actually result in better acceleration than pushing it to the floor. Still, we use our Murano for long trips, and the Note in town, where it scoots around happily. There's an old sports car saying that it's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow, and it applies here. I bought the SL, with all the bells and whistles, and for the most part they are worth the extra cost. The satellite radio is great, and the car's sound system is better than the one in my Murano. One of the main features we were looking for was visibility, and in addition to the great arrangement of windows, the SL has the around-view monitor, with cameras on all sides that produce a picture on the center screen of a birds-eye view of the car when backing up. The cameras can also be turned on when pulling forward into a parking space. The navigation systems is okay, but not as good as my Garmin, and clearly has not been updated for at least four years. The Sirius Travel Link is a nice feature, giving you the prices of gas at nearby stations, movie listings in the area, stock prices, and weather info. It also provides you real-time traffic alerts. All of these can be accessed using voice commands that work fairly well. Instrumentation is limited to tach, speedo, and gas gauge; all other systems are just warning lights. The HVAC is the same one that was in my 2005 Sentra, but it works well. Judging by our experience with previous Nissans over the last 20 years, we expect this car to be trouble-free for as long as we own it. Yes, I wish it had a little more power, but we love the car anyway. UPDATE: After owning and driving the car for ten months, my previous praise still stands. I'm averaging 31-39 mpg, depending on type of driving, and have had absolutely no problems with the car. I have learned how to modulate the accelerator to achieve better acceleration; a steady, firm but moderate pressure on the gas pedal allows the CVT to spool up properly and bring the car to speed quickly. You can't accelerate by the sound of the engine or the sweep of the tach like most cars; instead you just watch the speedometer and let the CVT figure out how to best move the car forward. Driving this way has made me far less aware of the limited power of the engine. I always enjoy driving the car, and it really scoots around town, while cruising comfortably on the highway. It's a fun car, but also practical and totally reliable.

This is now the second Nissan Versa Note we purchased. No base model for us the SV wirh appearance package for him and the SR with tech and navigation for me. What I like is quiet and smooth ride without feeling like I am in a small car. I like good vision all around the car and ample head room. Has a roomy feel unlike others that I tested.I tested all cars in the same category and choose the versa note. The gas mileage made up for the suv ride I previously had. It has pick up for interstate driving and it handles the rode great. I had to give up the old thinking big is better and safer and try something different.

TURN THE HEADRESTS AROUND!! LOVE MY CAR!

I didn't notice the small pocket glove compartment for a month! I didn't want to wait til I could find a manual with cruise (a MUST HAVE for me) so I took the CVT and I hope I don't regret it. I've seen a few complaints about the headrest. I felt like I was leaning over so I removed the head rest and turned it around, viola! Much better than not having one (headrest). As for accelerating on a short ramp, PUT YOUR FOOT ON THE GAS firmly (slowly apply pressure) before you hit the ramp! Or, try putting it in low, firm push on the pedal and that'll do it (put it back in drive too!). I haven't had ANY problem with it but it IS a 4 cyl. You've got to .get a "feel" for the CVT (not really a big fan, I'd rather have a traditional tranny). Folks, this is a low price (plenty of deals) and 4 cyl with 109 hp engine so don't expect a Maxima! In my opinion, WAY better than the Fiesta and Mirage (ugh, awful). So far, no issues with the window issues I've read about - guess I'll leave a towel in the car. Smile every time I get in and out, which is a breeze !! I had a 2001 Corolla for a short while and felt like a Big Foot climbing out (I'm 5'8") of that car.

June 2018 update. This car after 22,000 miles give or take, is still the best small car I have ever driven. Since I have been driving for 58 years, I have owned and driven many small cars, many, many, thousands of miles. This is the best. Drives like a feather, good ride and comfort, not noisy, great 40+ OA mpg's and no probs. yet. Does well on long trips, and shorter jaunts too. How can you not love it? Oh, by the way, it's enormous inside--esp. in the back seat. If buying, get the 15" (that's "fifteen inch") alloy wheels: lighter, less expensive to replace tires, better ride, and look good. All the Best. June 2017 update: I grant that mileage driven on this car (purchased in 2014) is still quite low and that I am a conservative driver, but this car continues to impress. I am starting to resent the reviews of this vehicle in the leading consumer magazine to which I subscribe. They rate this car lower car than the Honda Fit and even the Chevy Sonic (!) but then say that the Fit is "unfit" for long trips and are below average in the "ride/noise" category. Also the Fit's rated reliability is lower than the Note's. As for the Sonic: the back seat is cramped, and the trunk with the seat backs put up, is like a shoebox; mpg's are considerably worse than the Note's and the Sonic's steering is described as "darty". So, for these and other reasons, the Note should be rated higher than the Fit and the Soncic--not lower! Add that steering is a joy, comfort is good, back seat is enormous, and great for trips because of, in part, relatively good "ride/noise". Another point: sales figures of Nissan Versa's (sedans and Notes) FAR outstrip the Fit and the Sonic (ref. www.subcompactculture.com blog). So where does CR come up with their opinions? (My take is that they don't much care for Nissans generally.) Original review: Purchased this SV Note in May 2014 and have over 5,000 miles on it. Went to Mobil 1 low friction oil (0W30) at 3500 miles and increased already excellent mileage by at least 1 mpg, so recommend. Car drives great, handles like a dream and is--for class--quiet from road and engine noise, and has a nice ride. Pump to pump mileage checks show consistently over 40 mpg in warm weather and this includes a wide variety of conditions (including hilly and mountainous) with usually two people aboard. Car looks good to my eye with upright stance (as compared to the Fit, for example.) So, looks good, rides and handles great with outstanding mileage and is enormous inside. Recommend. June 2016 addition to original review: Like this car more than ever. Great room inside, quiet and comfortable for class. Very good for long trips on highways as well as local driving. Excellent ingress and egress (wife and I are in 70's.) MPG's are outstanding. Very mixed driving and 40+ mpg's easily attainable in warm months. (We live in northeast). High/low range: 43 -- 36 depending on time of season. (Petroleum companies change their formulations in the cold months/areas of country so, partially as a result, cold weather driving drives mpg's down--a little known fact perhaps.) We have come to like the CVT; would not likely return to a conventional automatic tranny in any future car. Would buy this car again. Tips: reco the 15" (not 16") alloy wheels. There are a number of good reasons for this which won't go into here (except to say, e.g. looks, comfort, strength, mileage, cost, and so forth. Also recommend low friction oil such as Mobil l 0W30. My mpg's improved at least by 1 with this oil. Finally, please note that this car is now rated highest in category for reliability by CR. A winner! Dec. 2017 update: Not much to say differently from previous reviews and updates. Car still impresses. Mileage now c. 20,300. Reliability is still very good; ride and noise factors very good; car handles so beautifully it is a snap to toot around on secondary roads and in towns. But, as previously mentioned, a big plus of this car over others in it's class is that it is good on longer trips. In a word, very good on the highways over a length of time. I drove my son's 2007 Honda Fit Sport around recently (secondary and highway roads) and it is a fine little car esp. if you drive in a very spirited fashion. I confess, being older, to driving very conservatively, but not when I was younger so I can appreciate a snappy small car. But I would give the Versa NOTE a noticeable comfort edge esp. on highways and say that it is ideal for older folks--also because ingress and egress are outstanding. Perhaps the newer Fit is different. Anyway, this is the best small car I have ever driven, and I have driven small cars (owned 6, and rented many) for c. 57 years. I think I know something about small cars!. Highly recommend the NOTE.

2015 Nissan Versa Note 1.6 SR 4dr Hatchback (1.6L 4cyl CVT)

I was looking for an economical hatchback to perform chores around town--transporting the dog, carrying bulky items from Home Depot, etc. My first thought was the Honda Fit, but only the top trim level offered the option of in-dash navigation, and it came with leather upholstery, heated seats and other features that I didn't care about. Then I read a comparison article which included the Versa Note and checked it out. Less expensive than the Fit and navigation was available on a lower level trim, the SR. After test driving and shopping several Nissan dealerships, I found just the car I wanted. I've only got 500 miles on it, but I am very pleased so far. I like the looks of this car. The SR comes with sportier alloy wheels, turn signals on the exterior mirrors, a roof spoiler and fog lights. The upright stance means there is a ton of headroom, even for a 6 foot plus person like me. Its tiny engine seems spunky enough to me, as I generally accelerate quickly enough from stoplights. Noise in the cabin is moderate--probably normal for this class of cars. It is quite roomy inside--particularly legroom in the backseat. And I was pleasantly surprised by some of the features , such as automatic door locking, auto-dimming rearview mirror with Homelink, a rear center armrest, and trip computer in the instrument panel. The optional navigation screen is smaller than in most cars, but the system works fine and even offers a "birds-eye view". Aspects of the car that are less than satisfying are: 1. no center armrest for the front passenger 2. the door armrests are uncomfortable hard plastic 3. the rear headrests are positioned at a strange and uncomfortable angle 4. the driver's seat is lumpy and would not be comfortable for long-range driving (which I don't intend for this car anyway) 5. strangely, there is no temperature gauge in the instrument cluster for the SR trim only

Note-Worthy update

This is an update on my previous review. After 26,190 miles, the Nissan Versa Note keeps on going with no complaints. The front seat are comfortable for my 5' 10" medium frame, especially when considering that some of my trips are 12 hours at a stretch. The back seats and leg room are huge. The A/c and heater work fine for the Texas, New Mexico, and Colorado environments. My driving characteristics are moderate, but I like driving to the legal limit, and taking it faster on mountain roads as the standard tires grip well, and the brakes are excellent in spite of deer and elk seem to have a death wish by Nissan Note proxy. It handles well in light snow and wet weather. The wipers are very good. While the power is certainly not its strong suit, it still makes it up Vail or Wolf Creek Pass in remarkable form, especially considering its small engine. The night driving lights are very adequate. I find the car quiet; as quiet as our Toyota Avalon [wife tends to disagree on the Note is not as comfortable, but then we are talking about a high end Toyota], which is again surprising when considering that the Note is essentially an entry level car. It was unfortunately so quiet, especially with an absence of wind noise, that I got caught in west Texas doing 78 in a 65 mile zone. Visibility is very good. A odd finding is that my gas mileage is amazing, particularly in the mountains of northern New Mexico and Colorado, my August and September monthly averages being 45.1 mpg by computer and calculations. This is also noteworthy when you consider that we were carrying a full load during our trips. In Texas, my monthly average is lower at 38.1 mpg, presumably due to the higher density of air [1,000 ft elevation vs. 8,400 ft]. We have had no service, mechanical, or electrical problems, just oil changes and tire rotation every 5,000 miles, and the people at Bates Nissan in Killeen, Tx have been most courteous and prompt in their servicing of this vehicle. Even the standard radio on the SV version is fairly good. The CVT transmission takes a little getting use to, but using both the "power" button on the transmission shifter and your right foot permitted us to pass some slow moving vehicles on mountain roads where forward visibility was limited. One more thing; It feels like you are driving a much bigger car than it is Cons: We wish that the car came with an outside temperature indicator, and the horn seems a bit tinny. Also, on some cold mountain mornings, the dashboard indicated "low tire pressure" but did not indicate which tire it was. There was never a problem once the outside temperature warmed up, but we spent needless time checking to see if we picked up a nail in any of the tires. Also, our previous car had a in-dash compass, which was handy when driving on mountain dirt roads, and hoping that you were going in the right direction. While we found the car essentially basic versus other more expensive "loaded" vehicles, it was user friendly in its relative simplicity. While I could afford a much more expensive vehicle, its excellent gas mileage and low maintenance cost of the Nissan Note, plus the above comments, why spend more on a vehicle that depreciates the instant you take it off the lot when this car seems to satisfy the needs for getting where you want to go in economical and quiet safety. If you need a vehicle to enhance your ego, or need the latest tech stuff, or air-conditioned/heated seats, or a car that tears up concrete, then don't get this car.

This is a basic manual shift car with very comfortable front seats. Purchased new summer 2014. Driven in Tx at highway speeds in very hot weather. AC is excellent. Only expense was gas and oil changes for over 50K miles. Steering is fine, brakes fine, manual shift fine, tires excellent, visibility fine. Purchased for trips over 3000 miles. No back or knee issues, surprising considering only adjustment was for/aft and recline. 6+ footer comfortable in back for 3k trips. Child safety seat no problem. At 45 mph speeds 40 mpg. At 80 mph 30+ mpg. Highest mileage was over 40 mpg driving flat 50 mph roads. Engine temp gauge indication same in summer and winter. Traction in heavy rain excellent, no ice or snow driving. Manual windows work great. Only inconvenience was no power door locks and no cruise control. Would also liked to have 6th gear. I could enter 80 mph road at 80 with up hill reasonable ramp, car cruised at 80 to 90 indicated speed all day in Tx. I never exceeded 6k rev and would typically rev to 5700 to get to 80 mph. 80 mph would take 4K revs. in 5th. Enough power in 1st to cherp front tires. Car always felt safe and solid on the road. Car still looks like new in and out.

2016 Nissan Versa Note 1.6 SV 4dr Hatchback (1.6L 4cyl CVT)

First off, you probably should know that this is our second Versa. We really like the model...it is, it seems, as close to our ideal vehicle as exists today. Sure, we wouldn't mind some cavernous SUV but the fact is that we can't afford it, and with gas getting dearer and dearer still we appreciate the economy of a well built "misermobile". We bought the first used as well and have put 140K miles on it (so far...it's still running well!) but we were ready to get another, thus the 2016 Versa Note SV. We purchased this one via Enterprise Car Sales and I cannot say enough about the buying experience...first rate all the way; great price, wonderful vehicle, just what we were looking for, and with pre-arranged financing through our credit union we were in and out of the dealership in well under an hour. Now, as to the car...first things first, it's not a race car, so take reviews from sites like Car and Driver and Motor Trend and their ilk with a VERY large grain of salt. The Versa Note is a commuter car, and it does that job exceedingly well. It rides well, has a quiet, roomy cabin (I am 6' 3" and fit fine both in the back seat and behind the wheel) and everything is laid out logically. The SV package includes just about every electronic widget you could possibly desire sans navigation, but that's why I have an iPhone and a GPS. The backup camera is a nice touch but with so many enormous windows it isn't wholly necessary. It's nice to have, though. The body style is a significant upgrade from the rather shoe-like boxiness of the 2011 Versa we own, and is very pleasing to look at. The cargo space is remarkable with the rear seats folded down (my bicycle fits just fine, thank you!) and the Divide-n-Hide storage is a neat feature that gives you a nice flat floor with a nifty hiding place beneath. Every car should have this sort of thing! As to the driving, I enjoy the CVT personally though I can understand why drivers who prefer more input might desire a five or six speed. I certainly can't argue with the results though...my average gas mileage has been a jaw-dropping 41.5 mpg in combined highway and local driving. Seriously. I watch this stuff carefully (with my budget I have to) and this is not just accurate, it's spot-on. Those are near hybrid numbers, at what, a half of the cost? A third? Remarkable! Mind you, I drive with a balloon foot mostly, but hey, I stay out of the way and don't slow anybody else down. I bet I could speed up a bit with little loss in mileage, but I'd rather be kind to the car. The small fuel tank probably helps too, holding about 2.5 gallons less than the 2011 Versa. Less gas, less weight. Less range too, you would think, but at 41.5 mpg you're talking 450 miles per tank, and that's more than the 2011 ever got. The steering is precise on the road but remarkably light in the parking lot...nothing to complain about there. The car mags all note the supposedly gutless engine, but hey, it gets me up to speed just fine and I don't have any problem keeping up. So far as costs go, apart from gas, regular oil changes, and rotating tires, the Versa would be frugal on that score too. In the summing up, as a used vehicle, fleet or otherwise, the Versa Note is a remarkable bargain, proof that you don't have to give up much to gain a lot of value. I expect to be driving it for many years to come. UPDATE 5/5/20 This may not come as much of a surprise to other Versa owners, but we have now had serious problems with our machine. It started with a sudden Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) that noted that we apparently had problems with our ABS system. Next time the car started, the error cleared. Bemused, I continued to drive the car. A couple of weeks later, the same error reappeared. In order to clear it, I shut the car down and restarted it (yes, I am an IT tech, no, it wasn't terribly bright to do this whilst stopped at a traffic light.) To my alarm, the car would not restart again! I got help to push the vehicle off the road...a few minutes later it restarted and I managed to get it home. I took it to a shop which replaced the Camshaft Position Sensor. I took the car home. I went out to start it to go to work the next day and...it happened again! No start. The shop got the car and took it back, then called me later to tell me the "computer" was faulty and needed to be replaced. They tried to do it and finally refunded all my money and said I'd need to take it to a dealer. I did and...THE DEALER AS MUCH AS TOLD ME THEY DIDN'T WANT TO WORK ON IT. They said it would entail many hours of research and an expensive part and boy, there sure were a lot of nice cars in the lot and wouldn't I be better off to look at them...? So I took the car home, and here it sits. Weirdly, it appears to have something to do with temperature, as it seemed to be okay all winter, but now that the weather has gotten warm again, the problem has recurred. The Versa is now discontinued, and I am sorry that it has ended so badly. UPDATE 11/5/21 I'm happy to provide an addendum to this drama. We finally managed to convince someone to take a serious look at this. $2200 later, the wiring harness is replaced (the, the whole wiring harness!) and the car starts as it should now. Now, in the interests of full disclosure, we do still have a Check Engine light come on every so often...I invested in a code reader and when it tells me is that an oxygen sensor is bad. I am told this is not an uncommon problem...and also that the error could be a an error itself. So, we clear the light when it appears and blithely drive on our way. We are over 110K miles now, and the car is holding on, which in this frantic age is a good thing.

depending on ur driving behavior and the money that u have, this car is the "best bang" for ur buck!! the "overall" effectiveness, efficiency, and utility of this car is EXCELLENT for the price (i paid 16K out the door). the mileage i get is 38.2 miles per gallon and it's running off fuel. would love to have a leaf or even a hybrid, but those cars are ridiculously priced so i REFUSE to pay that kinda money out for basically the same car i get in my versa. btw, this is my 3rd versa and i continue to be "in-love" with my car. so yeah, if u want cost-effectiveness in a product, coupled with utility and kewtness, the versa is ur car. the yaris and fit have "nothing" on this car and this car is easily 2-3K less in cost. ok, enjoy!

The Note is an interesting piece in a sea of sameness. Even with only 600 miles on the clock, I've been averaging about 35 miles combined highway and city. I have the SV with the CVT and am very happy with it. It seems to gave enough scoot, but with only 600 miles on the clock, I'm not doing any hard driving yet. The Note is a car where reading the owners manual is a definite plus, though I found a few features on my own. I'll list them in the next section. It's a roomy, reasonably quiet, though the bluetooth and media volume buttons are not intuitive. The up and down button is the phone, while the button going across is the volume control.

It took me a while to warm up to my 2015 Nissan Versa Note SV Hatchback but after one year it feels like the CVT has broken in and adapted to my desires/driving style, and I am quite pleased with my new friend. It's not a status vehicle (not my gig), or a super power car (not my gig) - rather, it's a secret beauty delivering a smooth ride, great fuel economy, total cuteness that brings a smile every time I approach it, and strong value. My only complaints are the heating/cooling system which presents a level of frustration in colder months in Minnesota. It seems slow to warm and engages the AC feature for defrosting, therein diminishing fuel economy. Also there is opportunity for design improvement regarding water flow/drip management on door frames and hatchback during rain/snow.

I got this the other week by of all places a Hertz Sales center. Had approx. 30,000 miles and I got it for approx. $9,700! Dealers wanted thousands more for higher mileage ones! - Anyway, it handles like a dream. Needs only a light touch. Accelerates fine in city and on highway. - I love the 'small touches' such as many well-placed cup and bottle holders. A glove compartment that is huge and could hold a woman's pocketbook and then some. Huge. Then there is a mini-glove compartment. Even extenders for the small visors. Bluetooth for phone and usb for playing music or podcasts from your phone to radio. Auto locks doors as you start driving and unlocks your door and puts on interior light when you shut off engine. You can even get a 'fake floor' for the cargo area so that you could hide a full-size briefcase or laptop. Great mileage so far: approx. 35mpg with mix of city & highway and with A/C on half-time. Huge, roomy interior. Co-workers cannot believe it's interior. No! I don't work for them. - BTW, Hertz experience was best I have ever had when buying a car.

Do not buy this if you want a sports car with great acceleraton. It does just fine for a 4cyl engine and gas mileage is great. Exterior is a bit deceiving because it's bigger inside than it looks. This car fit what our needs are ; gas mileage, room, and low mileage. Easy fold down back seats for extra carrying space, roomy back seat area for passengers which is surprising. We weren't in need of alot of extra bells and whistles and are pleased with option of having the SiriusXM ( love it) and back up camera. Just gotta be careful of cement parking dividers in parking lots as car is low to ground, but so easy to manuevor. Also, my husband is a big man and he fits better in this car than our Nissan truck, go figure. Have had car about 6 months now and am so pleased with gas mileage and storage capacity. When I put my seat covers on to protect the material, I put thin cushions b/t the seat and seat covers because I find the seats a bit hard on a long trip. Other than that, I really like the car and it suits our needs and love that I don't have to deal with constantly putting gas in it. Am also loving the hatch back. I put a protective cover that is connected to back seat and it covers the'floor' section in back so when I get plants or whatever I don't have to be concerned if something spills on it and I can just pick it up and shake it out without removing it. Enough room to put all kinds of things back there, and it's easy access. April 1st This car has been exactly what we needed. It was a fit from day one. It’s perfect for the two of us and we can zip around in it and the gas savings has been the big advantage for us. Besides the savings at gas pump, I rarely have to deal with gas stations since my husband fills it up and and it’s so great on gas. And love the mini ‘SUV’ design with the hatchback design so we can put extra cargo so easily in back. It’s just so convenient. It’s a smaller car but not too small that you feel unsafe or cramped. In fact it’s inside design is rather roomy in front seat and back seat for the size of car it is. I’m loving it because it’s so useful for what we wanted it for, something gas friendly but not too small for all the stuff we can tote in it. Main thing is it’s running great and have had no problems in that regard.

It's amazing on gas, and it's zippy! I feel like I'm in my own little personal travel pod, but I'm tall and not skinny, and I have plenty of room. Very comfy seats. It's a cute little car, and I'm very happy with it! You asked me to "update" my review...I STILL love my car! The only little thing is that it's not good on really snowy roads, even with studded snow tires. Bit that's ok! My hubby has a truck we can use for those days. I'd still buy another Versa Note hatchback in a heartbeat!

Versatile Versa Note

I drive this car for work, before I started driving it the car had an engine harness wiring issue that required a Nissan engineer take the car to New Jersey to figure it's problem out, ended up taking 2 months to get the car back. It's been great since. Amazing mpg as a delivery vehicle. You d be surprised how much this little thing will fit, it's much more comfortable than the other small cars available too us, our yaris is uncomfortable on long hauls, our fiesta is just a ticking time bomb on it's last leg with the transmission, our impreza is unimprezzive always getting repairs, and our other two aren't the same category so no need to compare. But the versa has the most comfortable interior over the impreza and much comfier than the yaris. Gas mileage has been phenomenal. The CVT actually isn't too bad, pick-up in town is perfect, highway it's a tad slow, dirt roads can be terrifying with the skinny tires, brakes have been outstanding, entertainment system is your typical bland base system any car brand offers. Visibility is another major plus over the impreza and yaris, all in all for our purpose it's amazing. If you need a good delivery vehicle for inner city purposes, check out the versa, it's a amazing city car.

I've had my not for close to a year now and as a college student who just needs to get from point A to B it is a very good car. No, the car is not any high performance vehicle with all the bells and whistles but it is affordable. I had test driven the same car with the CVT transmission and was very disappointed but I do like my 5-speed manual very much. The manual version is much peppier than the CVT counterpart and has no problem getting up to 70mph when getting on the highway. It was my first manual car and was very easy to drive and continues to get better the more the vehicle breaks in. I would say that giving this car a low rating is unfair if it is based off of interior design alone because it is not meant to be a luxury car. For what it is, the car is very nice and I will continue to say that so long as I own it.

Nice Individuals Start Saving At Nissan

Went from big cars (SUVs, Vans) to a subcompact. Thought it would be like being born again to get out (in) but was pleasantly surprised. The interior is as roomy as a normal fullsize car. I am tall but have lots of headroom in the Nissan. I also looked at other subcompact competitors: Ford Fiesta, Hyundai Accent, Chevy Spark, and Mitsubishi Mirage, and the Nissan Versa was the roomiest. I sat in the back seat and my knees had a good 2-3 inches between me and the front seat with the front seat set at the farthest back position. Another pleasant surprise was I get better in city and highway mpg than advertised. I like the hatchback because it opens like vans or SUVs for storing packages and groceries. Also, the cargo area is quite roomy for a subcompact but if you need additional room, the back seats fold forward whereas the seats are fixed in the other subcompacts I looked at. Finally, I like that you have to pull a release similar to the hood release to open the fuel door. This is a nice feature to protect against syphoning by thieves. It is not a luxury vehicle but it is fun to drive with enough pickup for entering highways, good mileage for gas savings, roomy enough for 4 adults, and a fairly quiet engine. The best thing is, it has a tight turning radius and can parallel park in small spaces (doesn't take much room in the garage either). UPDATE: I have owned this car for 13 months now and everything I stated above is still true but I would add a couple of observations. I notice how much louder the engine noise is than in our other car but it is not horrible. I also notice how much more I feel bumps in the road than our other car but this is true with any small car. And finally I would note that I had to replace the third brake light (rear window light) already but because Nissan makes it one piece, instead of a $3 bulb, I had to buy the $92 complete light assembly. However, it was easy to install and this is the only repair in a year. I am still enjoying this car. UPDATE: After owning this car for 2 1/2 years, it is still purring like a kitten. I did have to purchase two front tires this year which were down to the tread bar. However, because of the small tire size on these, it was very inexpensive. The only other thing I have noticed is that the brightness of the radio/clock readout has dimmed but it is still readable. UPDATE: I have now owned this car 6 years and the engine is still purring like the day I got it. The display on the radio/time however had dimmed so much it is almost unreadable until nighttime. I change the oil regularly and have replaced a couple of tires but otherwise the maintenance has been easy and it still gets great gas mileage!

I love my car perfect for a small ,5/1 , person like me. My 5/7 husband has some issues. My only issues is the condensation on my windshield. Cant get it clear unless I run the ac which eats up the fuel!! Other then that it's great. What I'd expect. I had an jeep Cherokee which I did love but the gas was horrible. This car is awesome I love not sticking with the norm and I've made mine my own. I will by another. This is actually my sec one. Was in an accident in my other. I was struck from Behind by a mini van and was totaled but I was never hurt, this car was great. Like I said I'll get another. Love it. Only other issue we had to replace the battery already.

Not a bad little car except for the CVT transmission. Transmission was replaced at 61,000 miles lucky we had an extended warranty. My wife drove the car 2 days than the transmission quit again. It is currently at the Dealer now awaiting repair. I no longer trust the car and would not buy another Nissan product with the CVT transmission.

Having had numerous vehicles over the years, and preferring manual shift for a more engaged driving experience, I decided to drive the CVT Note to see how uninspiring it was, and was wrong. This well designed, quiet vehicle keeps up with traffic, is very economical, and is a pretty decent hauler. After 7,700 miles, my city/country average is 35.5, and average highway is 38.8, with best long highway trip being 43.3 at 70mph with A/C. The seats are comfortable, and the back seat was able to accommodate a 6'8" male who was stunned at the backseat room. I had no problem climbing long inclines in Colorado. Certainly one of the surprising cars that has gotten little attention.

What they don't tell you about the gas mileage..... It only has a 10.8 gallon tank. Your driving range is not too far. The 31/39 MPG on the paperwork is not too real. The computer on the dash says your travelling at 34 to 40 MPG in town . The low on gas light kicks off and the dash starts counting down how much mileage you have left in the tank. I had 41 miles. I then filled the car 8.8 gallons with 39 miles on the dash computer. 229/8.8 = 26 mpg not the listed 31. I am not a speed freak I got the car for the MPG rating. Note: 6 months later the car still does not reach it's CITY MPG rating. The true mileage is always 4-5 miles below the posted on the dash number. Note: 1 year later much happier about miles per gallon. City wise it is still at 27-28 mpg no matter how I drive. BUT long distance trip best result was 47 mpg. Went from south WV to ST. George SC. The odometer read 386 miles, the computer said I still had 111 miles in the tank. The official HWY mileage was 39 so I got gas in St. George SC. I only put in 8.2 gallons of gas. The 111 Mileage was correct. With AC and cruise control the car got 47 MPG. It is a really good trip car. At 18 months the car has settled in to about 29 mpg city. At 26 months the car gets 33.9 mpg all around. The hatchback is great for chores. lots of space. At 36 months put in a new battery. The one that the car came with was almost 5 years old. I fill up the car every three weeks with gas. I have had the back seats folded down since I got the car. It can haul a lot of stuff easily. Paint around the hood corners is flaking off. 3.5 years... no major problems. I do follow the manual for all maintenance. Get a manual on the car so you can replace all the simple stuff like air filters. YouTube videos show you how to do it. Also when changing the battery put on a battery trickle charger, then remove the battery. This will keep all your radio stations installed and not erased. Loading 20 -30 stations back on is a PAIN. YouTube will show you how to change the battery. At about 5 years the car is going strong. I follow the scheduled maintenance. Bought 1 tire, will buy 2 more in June at the regular maintenance check up. Gas mileage in the city is finally up to 31 MPG. It is great for rush hour traffic. It can zip out of a turn. 1-27-23 Six years and all I do is the regular manual suggested maintenance. I have had no problems with the vehicle. Bought only tires oil, and gas. 7-27-23 No major repairs. Replaced the battery and got new tires. I change the oil every 6 months and do all the maintenance in the book on time. Car looks brand new. Got 28,000 miles on it. Need to change the wipers, that's about it 1-28-24 About 34000 miles. Change the oil and the maintenance on schedule. Averaged 40 8 mpg on a 2000 mile road trip with ac and cruise control through mountains and flat lands. No problems other than tires and batteries 7-29-2024 Runs like a "TOP". No repairs since it rolled off the lot, just the normal oil change and filter replacements.01-29-25 still no issues. I just oil change every 6 months, gas, and air for the tires I have only 37000 miles on the car and don't abuse it.

This little car does it all! It is a comfortable ride, in the front as well as the rear seats. It handles extremely well in wet conditions. It does pretty good in the snow too (as good as a front wheel car could do). I have 57,000 miles on her so far. I have the S-Plus model. My only real complaint would be the slow acceleration, its quite difficult to merge onto roads that have short entrance ramps, this also makes it difficult to quickly navigate from dangerous situations. My other complaint would be the quality of interior door materials.. one of my window crank handles has already fallen off and is not covered by the warranty. Other than what I've already said, I am completely in love with my car.

The Price is Right

It was sitting at a dealership over a year and I watched the price drop from 15k to 11k. I decided to move on an odometer that only had 400 miles on it. 2 months and 3k miles later nothing has broken yet. The breaks are stiff, the turning is stiff, the suspension is stiff... no give in anything. I can live with all of that considering the seats are comfy and the next car with mileage that low was an extra 5k. I average 36 mpg where over half is city driving so quite happy with that. My biggest pet peeve is the front window, it creaks over every bump when the temp drops below 40 and when I wake up for work the condensation on the window is as much on the inside as the outside. I think the contraction of temp on the window seal is letting it get on the front window. All the other windows are normal. When the temp is above 40 it is not an issue. Honestly my only long term worry is the CVT transmission, it is an unknown in the reliability department.

Here is my review, while unfortunately my sale did not go through due to my financing. I use my auto for puttering around town, to work, to store, etc. I really liked this one...I went to 2 different dealers. I have a 2013 Toyota Yaris, which I am very happy with. I was shopping due to my desire to have more details on the dash than I presently have. I was specifically seeking a light or reminder on the dash to remind me to turn off the lights, or headlights. I tested the 2015 Versa SR, the 2017 Versa Note Sr & SL. Both gave me good acceleration compared to the Yaris. The new technology has the USB placement in a more ideal place, not hidden away or hard to reach. The car has 4 cup holders. The seating was fine, I don't ride in long trips often with exterior room. Overall, I would get this car, maybe not new but used. I do not feel vehicles need to be 20K dollars. That's all.

I have had problem with the radio not working from day one but the dealership did fix the problem. Took the Versa in for the first oil change and was told both front axle nuts were unwinding, the dealership fix the situation. Took the Versa on a long distant trip the car handle well but the transmission is slipping. Got to make a third repair appointment. I'm starting to feel this call was put together by drunken New Years Eve employees at Nissan. Questioning my choice of cars.

I purchased a 2015 Versa Note SR in November 2014 and it has been a good little car. If you are expecting all the bells and whistles along with plushness then this car is not for you. I have owned several Nissan's in the past and have been very pleased with the overall quality and when it came time the Versa fit the bill. I found this car at a very good price and since it is the SR it feels a little more sporty than the other models. My main concern was fuel economy since I have quite a drive to work. This car delivers! I don't fill up nearly as often as I used to! I like my little car as I have seen others don't care as much for it. It fits 4 adults comfortably with lots of luggage. If you are looking for something with lots of power then I would look else where it is slightly sluggish but I am not in a hurry very often. If your expecting a lot out of an entry level car under 20,000.00 then good luck in your fair tale world. I was expecting what I bought and I am very happy with it. I was wanting a low price, great gas mileage, and it happens to look sporty and cute. Great buy!

BEWARE OF CVT TRANSMISSION ISSUES!!!

I bought a brand new 2015 Nissan Versa Note SV in 2015 and this year (2020) I had to replace the transmission. And since I was a month over my 5yr Powertrain warranty Nissan refused to help with the repairs. 5,000$ later and now my car has a new transmission (my car only had 80,000km on it). Apparently it’s a very common issue for the versas et sentras from 2012-2017. I would recomend trading in your car before the CVT transmission gives out! Nissan was only giving me 2,500$ for my car if I traded it in with the broken transmission...

Huge disappointment - expensive repairs

At the time when we bought this car, Nissan was undergoing a lawsuit that involved faulty transmission. We had no idea of this lawsuit, and ended up paying $3,600 for the repaired transmission. This car also needed a repair for the catalytic converters, which will cost $1,000. I would reconsider purchasing this car considering the repair costs that could have been invested into a more reliable model.

Forgive the wall, I'm on mobile. So got this as a rental, it looked cool and I wanted to try it. It had just over 2k milkes and I put 350 miles on it. Did a bit of city ( vegas!!) freeway and some "mountain" driving. Let's point out the Pros of this. The blue tooth is simple and easy, and you can take it a step further by downloading an app. But I just used Google maps, which only works if you have the stereo on Bluetooth mode) Its great for parking, tight turns, great for those u turns, braking, and decent fuel economy. The steering response is middle of the road, maybe a bit above because the car doesn't roll if you have to jerk it over to the next lane. It does have a back up camera and you can see all around when in traffic. I didn't get a chance to see how well The traction control worked. The A/C did okay for 110F heat and no window tint. Meaning it was on full blast 95%, even when it was under 100F. The audio system sounded better then I imagined! Weaving in and out of traffic is a breeze, and you'll have plenty of room. Its not the ugliest or boring for a compact. There was plenty of room for just the two of us. The dash is nice to look at and the double glove box was very convenient. Heck the knee one was very deep. Seating was firm but comfy. Combine the seating and suspension for a sporty feel. Now the cons; even if you are at the front of the line at a stop light, you'll be last. Not only is take off unnaturally slow, the actual throttle response is about a whole second behind. Then after that you'll start to crawl forward ( no need to worry about burn outs!) This can actually be annoying because if traffic speeds up a tad while rolling down the road it'll be a few before you'll catch up. It was amazing that it could go 70mph ( okay there were times we may have went 85mph but we were just keeping with the flow!! And the ride was challenging due to the swaying. Well get to that later) Imagine you are getting on the freeway, you hit the Apex and pin the throttle, the rpms jump up and as need to start merging, desperately, you look down and realize you are only doing 55-60mph, pending if the hill was in your favor. Okay you get it, accerleration is not what this car is meant to do. But you may think this can hold its speed. I mean come on, it's modern, it has a CVT, and it's small! Well sure it can. But only if it's minor. If you start climbing a little it'll rev up. And if it's a 6% grade, you might want to take the slow lane with the truckers. So how does it handle? Well on a flat road it's perfect, that goes for the pavement. If it's concrete with slits you'll start swerving like a tractor trailer with high cross winds, sad part is it's only a slight over exaggeration. At around 50mph it becomes noticeable. Maybe it's a safetly feature to keep you paying attention! I too thought maybe someone hit something. But seeing another versa I had to follow and see if they did the dance, and they did. With all the negative I wrote, I really do not hate this car! Sure it's gutless, the road surface can be a challenge, and the suspension is borderline cheap feeling, but it was fun! The only way I would own this was if I got it with 6sp and 30 more ponies. ( I do kick my self for not getting the fiat 500!)

If you want good transportation this is a fine vehicle to buy. The handling is great and in-city mileage has been amazing. Hopefully the mileage will be good during the colder months. The vehicle handles nicely and is fun to drive. No, it isn't a race car but so what. It does a very nice job going from point A to point B. Some smallish points - headlights could be better as could the defroster and yes, the little engine takes a minute to warm up so my quick ride to work in the winter is cold. Took it out for a road trip to Maine and it did very well, holding the road and keeping up with traffic nicely.

I bought this car because of the price and the fact it only had 137 miles with remaining warranty. It is a base model which means it has no power windows or door locks. Lots of people will give you hell about this. I will say I miss the auto door locks the most. I ill get use to it since I drove a Subaru brat for 13 years without the same things. So far I am loving my new car. But going with out one for three years and having to stay with in a budget I think I did very well for my self. One year later and I still really love my gray little dumb car it averages 40 miles highway and 35 city . I drive it every where. The heater and air condition is fantastic. The only thing I hae done is the recommended oil changes and tire rotation. Still really like it and would do it all over again. I hope I feel the same way next year.

I have been driving my Versa Note for 8 months now and I still ADORE it! I had been driving larger vehicles prior to purchasing this "compact car" and I can't say enough about how great the gas mileage is! Going from an average of 23 MPG in my Nissan Rogue to now an average of 38 MPG has been AMAZING! Another thing I love about this car is how deceptively spacious the interior is. I can honestly say that it feels just as roomy sitting in the Versa Note as it did in the Rogue, with the only real loss being in trunk space. I will say that the acceleration, or lack there of, is a bit of a disappointment. Otherwise I really can't say that I have any complaints. I still get excited when I walk up to it and get in. It's just a fun little car that has spunk to match my personality!

as most people here, i was looking for a decent gas shipper. although im not pleased i had to buy the SV ( 2 levels up from base)to get power windows, still its a nice lil car. havent gotten that advertised 40 mpg yet, i average about 34. riding as a passenger i feel a bit uncomfortable as far as armrests since i end up sharing the drivers. but it does have better rear passenger legroom than most comparable, esp the COTY VWGolf which is $8k more. side window visors/guards a must as the rain water will drip in.be leary of servicing since Nissan chokes you into the CVT only being done at dealership.be smart and budget minded when buying as the normal nickle and dime stuff will pinch the wallet

I got this car in May 2015 with only 2500 miles on it, now after 11 months and 13,000 more miles it is running great, the CVT has given or I get used to it but now it goes more on my rhythm. The MPG 40 - 43 average mainly in 55 highway. Interior room is great for 4 person and even 5 is acceptable (3 adults and 2 kids on their car seat) cargo area is OK and if you need to get something bulky from Walmart, Lowe's or Home depot you very easily can put down the rear seats and the space is comparable to a small SUV (I have carried 2 mid-size baggage, a stroller and my son's bike). Handling is really firm and enjoyable, we have a lot of rain and windy days in this area and even driving to 70 you feel the control of vehicle, it goes very good on snow as well. I cannot comply, maybe the plastics and interior materials are not the best quality but they have resisted the attacks of my two children very firmly. When I took it to the dealer for service is just great to only pay $35 and not $50 like in other cars/brands. Controls on steering wheel are easy and handy. This is a really good car, if you are looking for a money saver but tough car to resist your hard driving do not doubt as the Versa Note is your best call. Pros: MPG, maintenance cost, road noise and driving Cons: The only thing specially on those very cold days in January when is 20 or lower is that you will need about 5-10 minutes to warm it up

I hate this vehicle! It’s the most uncomfortable car I’ve ever owned. The noisiest, too. A/C goes down every time you stop. In Florida, that’s not good. It has constant wind noise, rattling noises everywhere. It is rough especially when turning. I will never buy another Nissan.

This car is easily capable of getting over 40 miles per gallon on the freeway and over 32 combined! If you don't do jackrabbit starts and don't speed on the freeway (and drive like a grandma), 38 miles per gallon combined was regularly attained. It is amazingly spacious for a small car like that. I think the worst thing on the exterior is that the paint is a bit thin compared to, saying a GM or something. The worst thing on the interior is that the radio display gets hot and makes it hard to see the information. The radio still works though. Seats are comfortable (even as a taller person, and the stupid way that the driver seat adjusts, it is still bearable. Vision is good and it's pretty easy to park because it's smaller. The key to my successful ownership is that I changed the transmission fluid at 60,000 miles and maintained the thing by doing regular maintenance items on a regular basis. 5,000 miles for an oil change, maximum! I also kept the air filter clean, watched the air pressure in the tires and kept the car clean by washing and waxing it.

The person I sold this car to is a friend. At 128,000 miles, this car is still on the road and still getting 35-38 MPG with a lot of short trips from home to school, etc. The new owner is an aspiring mechanic after a career change after immigrating into United States. He has done the second transmission fluid drain and fill at 55,000 miles since the last one (Yes always do it early and use OEM fluid!). if you maintain this car, it continues to run relatively inexpensively. Unfortunately, Nissan's target demographic is a group of people who don't take care of their cars at the same level as needed. if somebody buys a BMW, they have the money to have it in the shop all the time. Nissan isn't as lucky. Gets great gas mileage and holds a lot of stuff. Amazingly comfortable for tall passengers in the back. Gets 27 MPG in hilly city driving, 38 MPG combined when it's 75% freeway driving. This is not a race car, this is not a jackrabbit start car, this is not a car that's going to go 0 to 60 in 8 seconds. If you are a gas-to-brake-to-gas driver, get a different car. This could be a great vehicle, but you have to be a patient and responsible driver who is wise to good habits. Now, here's the catch... •Oil changes at a maximum of 5,000 miles even with synthetic. •Transmission fluid changes at or under 60,000 miles. (While flushes are risky, if you are doing it at a maximum of 60,000 miles, that might be more tolerable (if you're at 90,000 miles, do a drain and fill or consult with an independent Nissan transmission specialist before making a decision). I have seen videos where they have dropped the transmission pan and there is a lot of debris from the CVT transmission. That might be a recommended service that will give you additional life.) •Use TopTier gasoline If you are buying this used, look for service records! If you're not seeing oil changes at 5,000 miles or 6 months-conventional oil/1 year-synthetic (whichever comes first), pass on this car (ask for receipts if they said that they were doing the oil changes at home, people will sometimes say anything to rip you off). Nissans need more maintenance because they aren't as durable as say a Toyota. Also, check for a transmission fluid service. Not just a plain transmission service, it must be a transmission FLUID exchange or flush. These transmissions in this and other years were the subject of a class action lawsuit. Go in educated! A new transmission is $5k, don't lose money!!! An owner who's maintained it well will always get better performance and longevity out of this transmission than people who drive like it's NASCAR and might remember to put oil in it every 10,000 miles. Other than some initial build quality issues, like my hood wouldn't always open when I first bought the car, the only real long-term issue was the radio. The radio's display, an orange backlit thing, would fade in warm weather or with direct sunlight on the dash. The radio did not stop functioning. The paint is a bit thin on this car too. So washing it properly and waxing it is something I would highly, highly recommend. Expect transmission replacement to run about $5,000 in 2020. Whenever you're reading this, inflation has surely changed this price. There is no way to rebuild this transmission. Buy your transmission from Nissan or risk losing every dime you've put into it.

After you get done with the "it's a new car" feeling... you quickly come to realize why this is was the cheapest car you could find. The windshield popped for absolutely no reason and the dealer is too cheap to replace it and Nissan's Customer Complaints won't do anything about that, there was a serious safety recall half a year ago and the dealership didn't even bother to tell you about it which is probably illegal and after consulting mechanics you find that the CVT transmission requires more expensive maintenance and shop time than you thought was possible

I've owned 3 Nissans. 2 we've still got. Great vehicles. However the Versa has been one of the worst driing cars. It's laborious to drive long distance (a good in town car). In the rain, storms and even just during by large trucks it's a task to keep it in the road lanes, especially after 8-10 hours of driving or thru a 3 hour storm of heavy rain. And it seems every time I rent a car I get one....

Good handling. Sticks to the road & tight (electric) steering. Enough zip for me. Lots of lateral room & high ceiling. Mine is a stripped down S version with a stick (less to go wrong with it). Everything is cheap as it's a cheap car, especially seats. There's a rattle in the dash when it's cold. Really could use (and it can pull) a 6th gear (4k rpm @ 85mph!). But, no regrets.

When I purchased this car at just 1 years old and a little under 20,000 miles I only had if for 1 month before having to take it to the dealership for repair. The CVT transmission on this thing is complete crap and Nissan needs to just do a total recall and replace them. There is absolutely no acceleration with this car, so don't think you can jump across a busy street safely. You're either not going to be fast enough or the transmission is going to stutter and leave you sputtering in first gear. Now let's talk about the most uncomfortable car seats I've ever sat in, my neck is absolutely killing me after my 45 min drive to work. I dread driving home. Theres no real adjustments you can make to the seat or steering wheel. There's actually plenty of leg and head room, so I'll give it that. The trunk space isn't too bad either for the size of the car. Overall though this purchase has been the worst mistake of my life. I would advise to avoid it.
