Used 1992 Nissan Stanza Consumer Reviews
My Stanza
I have had but one real problem and that was the fuel pump. I found one in a wrecking yard for 35.00 and have no problems since. I have changed the spark plugs and the brakes need done and possible cv joint will be needing replaced soon, but what do you expect after 238,000 miles. It has been the best little car I have ever bought.
1989 Nissan Stanza 4 Door Sedan
I purchased this car new in 1989 and it gets great gas mileage at an average of 35 MPG HWY and 30 MPG City. It rides good, it is a comfortable ride and has been over all a great car with very little maintenance.

1990 Nissan Stanza GXE
I inherited this car from my Grandfather and he used it mainly in town with some highway use on I-15 so milage average is low. I had to replace all the leaking fuel injectors in 2002 but that is only major repair failure. Other normal maintenance issues like CV Joints, etc. are required for all cars. Gas milage is less than my same 1990 Mazda 626 (which is a 5 speed). This car is a bit tight in headroom for me but a great 2nd commute car for my wife. Stanza design hurt its longevity but it is comparable to other Japanese cars for reliability outside of fuel injectors.
best car ever owned
My wife has had this car for about 12 years. I have been driving it for the last 4 and have had no major problems. just standard maintenance. Am just know putting front brakes on it since my wife had owned it. Had replaced the raditor because of a slow leak, replaced the cv joints once 1 year ago. That is it. This car is roomy, has good exceleration and good on gas. Maintence has been negligible. Love this car and I'm still driving it.
Good car for beginners
I bought this car in 2000 when I was a freshman in college for $1400. Little did I know i would have to spend about another $700 to get it in shape. The problems have been minimal and parts have pretty reasonable prices. Although it is a 4 cylinder, it performs very well and gets average gas milage. It has a sporty feel and easily passes any Accord or Camry of its age. Passenger room is nice up front, yet tight in the rear. The Stanza offers everything it rivals do, only more power and a smaller price.
Everyready
I've had this car since new. Now, 370,100 miles later I'm almost ready to replace it. There's nothing wrong with how it runs - it's just the little rubber things that are breaking down. The engine still has great torque - often I leave a stop sign from 2nd gear. Mileage is about 22 but sometimes I get the 27mpg of old days. The interior is still great. This has been a hell of a car.
best car nissan has made
i got this car from my father a year ago when i got my license.my dad got the car from my grandfather.she has 157000 miles on her.she runs strong as ever. I've recently had the car completely restored and she looks like she did 20 years ago when she rolled off the assembly line.for me this car is not just transportation it is part of my family history. i hope to have this car untll it wont run anymore.it is in my opinion the absolute best car nissan has ever made
Love MY Stanza!
Love my car...fast 2.4L engine. My car has over 230,000 miles on it and I have actually been given offers to sell my car. Hmmm, I think the word is out and ppl know what's under the Stanza's hood. Her looks are deceiving, lol. She's a gas saver too! Over the 6 yrs that I have owned her, everything I have done kindof adds up (alternator, plug wires, distributor and cap, starter, rack pinion, outer tie rods, and electrical window switch on driver's side), but I DO NOT HAVE a car payment ppl! I trust this car and will definitely buy another Nissan. Oh, and changing the rack pinion and outer tie rods...$700 this last weekend....well worth it...I never had a car drive so straight!
Best Cheap Car You Can Get
Great car. Bought it for $800 6 years ago. 86K. Used it as just a work car and the timing chain just broke at 126K. Had to put on a new front axle, fuel injector and muffler. Other then that just normal oil changes. Always started in subzero weather. Other then the few repairs in 6 years this car was super reliable. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a great A B car.
Bulletproof
Just sold my Nissan Stanza after ten years. Never a major problem. Only had to deal with maintenance issues that begin to crop up with an aging car, i.e.,clutch, fuel injection system, etc. If not for the generic styling, the Stanza would have been a world beater.
1991NissanStanzaXE
I bought this car new. Fun to drive, has enough power, comfortable on the highway, interior is nice. Great car until an oil leak killed the clutch. Know of another owner that had same problem, $4,000 repair bill. Haven't decided to fix or sell.
One Owner
Second car for spouse shopping use. Now too aged for continued driving. Car has been properly maintained including oil & filter change every 3000miles. No repairs required except change of tires, new battery, new brakes.
Nissan Stanza 91
high reliability, very durable. good performance. confortable seat. run great. good transmition. timing chain. all powered
Keeps going and going
I bought my '91 Stanza as a 9 year old car from a friend 5 years ago. It has been extremely reliable, and repairs have been relatively cheap: repaired a rocker arm for $100 and replaced a battery and brake pads in that time. I finally sold it 2 weeks ago because there has been a strong raw gas fume/exhaust smell in the car that 2 mechanics could not figure out. I did replace the CV joints, but I figure they rusted out because I stopped taking the car to the car wash (got discouraged with the fumes). It got some body rust around the front fenders/door area, too, again because of the car wash thing, I think. I live by the ocean in a heavy snowfall/road salt area. A wicked good car.
Best Reliable Fast Fun Car
I have driven my 91 Stanza for 2 years now and I will never sell it. I keep it in mint condition but I never have a problem with it.
The great stanza
I've owned this used car since 1993 when it had 37000 miles. I've since added 200,000 miles and, knock on wood, never experienced any problems with it. Nissan makes great engines and this car has made me a believer. A great car for the ages.
Fantastic,Fuel Efficient, Nissan
Around 200,000 miles transmission wore out.Try not to be a leadfoot with this car. If you want a fantastic town car for a small family with a tight budget, this is for you!I've seen a 1991 Nissan Stanza GXE withover 500,000 miles WITH ONE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION! Very dependable. Like the Energizer Bunny, maybe more.
nissan for life
when I bought it it had 70K. previous owner kept it in great shape. I did not invest as much into it, but the darn car just keeps going. Just sold it for $800 at 135k. It is a great car!
HAPPY OWER
BEST AUTO I HAVE EVER OWNED. FUN TO DRIVE VERY, VERY RELIABLE. CAN NOT THINK OF ONE THING THAT I AM DISPLEASED WITH. I LOVE IT. IF YOU FIND ONE THAT IS IN GOOD WORKING ORDER, GO FOR IT.
Just won't give up!
I purchased this Stanza used as a second vehicle. It had more miles on it already than any other car I've had yet. It's been too reliable that I can't get over it. I have had new vehicles cost more in repairs in the first 20k miles than this thing has cost me in total. I take it on long trips without any concern. It's not a race car, but it still accelerates a lot quicker than I expected when I went to look at it. Only replaced one tire and kept up on oil changes. I've put over 20k miles on a vehicle thats older than some of my college aged siblings and it has put alot of money back in my pocket. It's not head turner or anything special, but I really enjoy driving around in it.

Pretty good
Overall this has been a pretty good car. Had to replace the clutch at 100,000 miles. Probably due to inexperience at driving a stick shift. A reliable car. Sometimes it will not go into reverse the first time. bought used with 79000 miles and now have 140000 miles with few problems.
the nissan advantage!!
I bought my stanza brand new off the showroom floor. 14 years & 216,000 miles later, this car is still running strong. I replaced the clutch at 207,000 miles, and aside from that, I've not had to perform any repairs. Honda and Toyota boast reliable products, but nissan offers the same, as well as, better styling and most of all affordability.
Low maintenance vehicle
This car has been outstanding from the maintenance viewpoint. Replacing an alternator at 160,000 miles, air- conditioner compressor at 157,000 miles, and had cruise control problems at 140,000 miles. Otherwise, just changing the oil every 3,000 miles and replecing battery and plugs, hoses and belts is the extent of maintenance I've done. I wouldn't be afraid to take off today and drive across the U.S. in it. It's been and remains a great car. I now have a 2000 Maxima that I think is another winner.
Great car
Have had this car for over 12 years. It's the best car I have ever owned. Have only put tires, brakes, and a battery in it. Well, I had to put gas in it too.
IT JUST WON'T DIE!!
Over ten years later with over 155,000 miles and the the only maintenance performed was the normal maintenace. Just change the oil every 3,000 miles and the car will still beat other cars in pickup taking off from a redligth. I am so impressed with Nissan that I just purchased 1992 Nissan 240 SX Limited Edtion Convertible for the fun of having a convertible. It still has the original muffler! Nissan is reliable, dependable and sharp looking for the money. The Stanza was in the same class as the Accord and Camry. But they were charging more money with less options in their cars. GO NISSAN!!!
A well-built and reliable car
This car has over 201,000 miles, and had very few problems until very recently like water pump and radiator, and the o-ring on the distributor shaft. Over 16 years, these plastic and rubber parts have become brittle and need to be replaced. But overall reliability has been remarkable. After some cleaning/servicing, it runs quite smoothly, not less than it was new.

I loved the Stanza, but it did not love me.
I had a 1992 XE model for about 4 years. It was my college car. I enjoyed driving her super fast and getting speeding tickets right and left. I took care of her, but I drove the car hard. Eventually, at 180k, she caught fire from the distributor cap and part of the hood burned. Then, after getting that fixed, the timing chain went and she was scrap. Even before the big events, the car nickeled and dimed me to death. But boy, did I enjoy that car while it lasted.
Reliability is incredible
Bought mine with 96kmi. Occasional replacement of worn out items (starter, alternator, water pump, etc.). Change oil, filters regularly. Reliable starting in cold winter weather. Still going strong at 226kmi. Great car.

Fun but not reliable
A very fun to drive car. The 2.4L is plenty for the Stanza. The car car has average handeling. Comfort and fit and finish are also average. The reliability though for a Nissan is terriable. I spent $4,000 in repairs in just one year!
1992 Nissan Stanza
Would not really recommend this as a vehicle for long term. In our 10 years of ownership we have replaced 5 alternators, most of the electrical window lift switches, and have had rust removal work done on the rear quarter panels. It is a reasonable car to drive around town, but on the highway it tends to be loud, and the front seats uncomfortable for long trips (especially for taller people.)
