The 2026 Cadillac CT5 is the last luxury sedan from a legacy American automaker, not counting the electric competition from Tesla and Lucid. It is available with a range of engines and rear- or all-wheel drive, and it has a decidedly sporty feel. The CT5's back seat is tidier than most competitors' and the cabin isn't as plush, but the Cadillac's base price is considerably more attainable.

Driving experience

How does the Cadillac CT5 drive? The CT5-V accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds in our testing. That's fine but many rival sedans, such as the Mercedes E 450, are noticeably quicker. On the upside, the V has secure handling and precise steering. On a curvy road, the lack of body roll gives you confidence to tackle corners with aplomb. The brakes are good for commendably short stopping distances.

We like the smooth-shifting transmission, which always seems to be in the right gear. We're less impressed with the electronic parking brake, which takes too long to disengage and can lead to a jerky startup.

The CT5-V's ride is firm but not punishing. The body gets a little jittery on patchy sections of the highway, but it rides comfortably over road surfaces that don't have excessive wear.

The CT5-V is loaded with all the latest tech you expect in a luxury car. We found the adaptive cruise control's braking and accelerating to be a little jumpy, but otherwise the driver aids work well. Standard on the CT5-V is GM's Super Cruise, which is a hands-free driving mode that works on mapped highways. It works well and can help you relax a little on long drives or when in congested traffic.

Comfort

How comfortable is the Cadillac CT5? The new 33-inch digital display modernizes and simplifies the Cadillac's interior without affecting its general usability. The climate and driver aid controls are all easy to reach and clearly labeled. We also like that the touchscreen can be operated via dial control, so you can choose how you want to interact with the system.

The dual-zone climate control system works fine, but if the set temperature and the outside temperature are too close, the vents only whisper air. The system will automatically activate the seat heating and cooling functions once you enter, which is pretty nifty if you want to be comfortable immediately. Interior noise is abundant, which feels unlike Cadillac. The V6 snarls and cracks at full whack, but it's too noisy for puttering around town.

On the downside, the CT5 isn't ideal for taller passengers. There's a great amount of legroom all around and headroom up front, and the driver's seat has a lot of available adjustments. But rear headroom is tight; you'll have to be well under 6 feet tall to fit comfortably. And the car's low stance and sloping rear roofline hamper getting in and out.

In-cabin tech

How’s the tech? The infotainment and navigation impressed us. Thanks to the 33-inch curved display and its Google tech, the system looks good and is very easy to operate. While the Cadillac doesn't have quite the range of features as its German competition, the CT5's tech is slick and easy to operate. It's well organized and easy to sort through, but if you prefer to use your phone, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. There are also three USB ports (one USB-A and two USB-C) if you need to fast-charge. We'd expect to see at least one port for each outboard passenger in a luxury sedan of this size, and a digital key is not offered.

Storage & cargo

How’s storage and cargo? The cargo floor is low to the ground. That's great for most people, but taller folks will have to bend to load and unload items. At 11.9 cubic feet, the cargo area is small by class standards. The rear seats fold down, but the pass-through area doesn't span the width of the seats, so you might have a hard time fitting long and wide items. In-cabin storage is a bit better. You'll find trays and cubbies throughout, and the door pockets are decently sized. There are no anti-tip tabs in the cupholders, so water bottles will crinkle about.

Is the Cadillac CT5 a good value? Though it competes in the midsize class, the CT5's price and interior design and materials quality suggest it's really more of a larger version of the CT4 compact sedan. As such, it doesn't sport the richly detailed and upscale cabin appointments of midsize rivals such as the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series and Mercedes E-Class.

But the CT5 line as a whole costs many thousands of dollars less than comparable versions of those vehicles. That's true of the CT5-V as well; this mid-performance model often costs less or the same as entry-level variants of these size competitors. If you want a roomy luxury sedan but don't want to spend a ton of money, the CT5 is a worthy choice. Just know that you get what you pay for.

How’s the fuel economy? The all-wheel drive CT5-V gets an EPA-estimated 20 mpg combined (17 city/26 highway). Even though the CT5-V is a more performance-oriented model, six-cylinder rivals are far more efficient. The BMW 540i xDrive, for instance, is much quicker — it's nearly a full second faster in a 0-60 mph drag race — but it achieves an EPA rating of 28 mpg combined. We got 22.4 mpg on our real-world evaluation route, which is right in line with the EPA estimates. But we've also seen 25-28 mpg on the same route with the CT5-V's primary competition.

X factor

As long as you aren't racing it at a track and exploring the limits of grip, the CT5-V is a hoot. Stable handling and ample torque make this a fun little beast to tool around in. And the ride isn't punishing either. Add in GM's Super Cruise and you've got quite a stealthy highway hauler.

In terms of sheer luxury, the cabin doesn't impress against the likes of BMW and Mercedes-Benz, but the new digital display cleans up and modernizes the CT5's cockpit. When you consider its performance, road manners and breadth of technology, it really feels like you get a lot of car for the money. And the interior isn't so chintzy that you'll feel disappointed in the long term.

The 2026 Cadillac CT5 is a midsize luxury sedan available in Premium Luxury, Sport, V and Blackwing trim levels. A turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine is standard (237 horsepower, 258 lb-ft) in the Premium Luxury and Sport. With the Premium Luxury trim, you can upgrade to a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 (335 horsepower, 405 lb-ft), which is standard in the CT5-V, where it supplies a little more power (360 hp, 405 lb-ft). The car exceeds my expectations. Build quality is phenomenal and performance is excellent in all aspects of the driving modes. One of the most impressive features, is the active exhaust system.
