The Breaks are terrible!

2024 Nissan Sentra SV 4dr Sedan (2.0L 4cyl CVT)

I love everything about my Nissan Sentra, except for the god awful sound it makes everything have to use my breaks for a complete stop. They grind- they crunch- loud even my neighbors standing at the bus stop ask me if this is a new car and why does it sound so bad?! Nissan has done nothing to try and help the sound- They say it’s normal and I am safe. They haven’t even recommended replacing my brakes. I’ve been out of work in the shop to try and reproduce the sound it’s never as loud as it is the first break in even left the car overnight and they didn’t tell me and took it out without knowing you have to use the breaks- and the noise was nowhere near as loud - This is so frustrating that a 3rd party auto mechanic also said it’s their cheap parts and manufacturers- the noise isn’t “hurting” my brakes- but it is definitely noticeable and extremely unsatisfactory for a brand new car. Step up Nissan- I reported the problem around 4k miles- I use my car everyday for work and have taken a road trip and now have 13k miles!!!! Insane that nothing has been done.

Over Priced Brake Replacement

Richie Rich, 10/15/2024
2024 Nissan Sentra SR 4dr Sedan (2.0L 4cyl CVT)

2024 Nessan Sentra SR rear brakes worn out in less than 36000 miles. Was told by salesman it is covered under warranty. (Orchard Park, New York) Service Deptment rep. (Evan) said it is not covered under the warranty. The final price for the replacement parts, tax and labor was $2500. From now on I will stick with Ford or Chevy.

The small things add up

2024 Nissan Sentra SV 4dr Sedan (2.0L 4cyl CVT)

On paper, the features and mix of features you get for CHEAPER than practically every other compact sedan make it look like a good value. That being said, I'm not satisfied with it. 1- Car rattles on acceleration, it's a design flaw. You can hear it most on the passenger side with the window down. Seems to be here since the 8th generation was introduced. There's several topics about this on the internet, wish I had seen them first. Not every dealer will be willing to do anything about it since it's not something "broken" and Nissan corporate demands a "this is broken" diagnosis to even start a ticket and look in it. So that’s great. I'll have to find another dealer to even bring this problem to Nissan's official attention. Oh and expect to play phone tag, because that's fun too. 2- The steering is heavy, doing slow turns or parking is like pushing a heavy wheel. It doesn't feel nimble or precise. The stiffness is acceptable at higher speeds, but at slower speeds it needs to be lot lighter. 3- The stock audio system is GARBAGE - they put in 20watt speakers! It lacks depth and heaven forbid you turn it up, it sounds so bad. Model number indicates it's also been used in older INFINITI Q60 models too, but that means nothing. The built in EQ is awful, just terrible crossover points. You might as well buy a different car with more acceptable speakers to begin with and just save the hassle altogether. Even the Bluetooth adapter they chose sounds terrible, SBC only. A JBL Flip 6 does AAC and that came out 3 years ago. AUX or Android Auto/Carplay is a necessity, you can hear the difference after one try, but no wireless. Through my phone, I’ve had some success by applying a low treble cut and mid+high treble boost, but I’ll focus on the rest of the spectrum when it seems less of a headache. If you have no systemwide EQ or EQ apps on your phone and love to listen to music, this car will kill you. Related to audio too - the turn signal and all warning sounds are tame. They are too soft and too quiet, think of those keyboards that sound muted and less offensive to others. Warnings should be sharp and loud, to get your attention. Biggest one is the turn signal – if you have any kind of hearing problem, it might as well be silent. And even if your hearing is great, there is no way to hear it over any music playing. I’d rather know in the off chance that my turn signal is still on or before turns. 4- AC and fan is limited. Tell me why my 2014 Honda blew out colder air and had better airflow. Tell me why even using it without the AC on (fan only) my older car let in colder air from the outside! I need to run this Sentra at the coldest all the time either way, it doesn’t get cold enough and mixes too much engine air in only fan only. Also, some more quirks – if you have recycle air on, it works harder. It also redirects power when you close either of the side vents. 5- The infotainment system is dated but more importantly, lacks customization. It cuts off long song titles, no day/white mode, no theme colors to switch things up. Same thing with the dash. The dash is practically monochromatic. There is not that many things you can customize in aesthetics or the operation of the car. Thankfully you can disable the automatic cruise control follow distance screen that pops up that way you don't lose the digital speedometer, but come on, why isn't the digital speedometer ALWAYS present on the screen in the first place!? There are some things I like, but they seem purely physical. 1+ The car looks nice, the gun metal gray color is stunning and doesn't have any weird undertone or color shift like Honda or GM. 2+ The keyless proximity entry is great and I use it every day. It doesn't cost anywhere near competitors to get the feature and I don't mind the button press on the door handle required to use it. However the key fob costing $400 is just robbery. You might as well shell out another $100 for “Virtual Key” instead, considering that can be put on 8 smart devices. 3+ The seats are comfortable in an invisible way. They don't seem like anything noteworthy, but they blend into the background and I could see long trips being fine with them. But too many of the essentials seem like they didn't go the full mile. Are you listening Nissan? Stop being ultra frugal with the audio system and AC, charge a little bit more and do them right. Address the going on 4 year rattle with a TSB or at least an explanation as to WHY it happens. Is it the fuel injection system needing very high pressure as part of this XTRONIC CVT design? The fuel return line resting on another component? Something else? It happens on BRAND NEW MODELS WITH 10 MILES OR LESS, it doesn't develop. And you hear it pretty clearly with the windows down, which is kinda a necessity because the fan function won’t let in cold enough air. You should overcome software limitations with an update, and you can also fix address the quiet turn signal and warning sounds by adding either new sounds or upping the volume of existing ones via the update. Plus it would buy you some good will going forward. Consumers are used to expensive devices like iPhones and Galaxies getting continued support and with Nissan’s 92% increased profit in 2023, you have the resources to do it. Now, if there was better charging infrastructure where I lived, I would have just got a Bolt EV/EUV instead. Cheaper right now than a Sentra, less maintenance required, and cooler interior. But there’s 4 charging stations where I live, most are not cheap, and 1 EACH in two of the other towns around me. I live on the second story of an old house that was turned into apartments so there isn’t even an abundance of power outlets, let alone convenient ones for running something outside. Even L1 would be a gamble. I would have considered a Hyundai Elantra too, but idiots are still targeting and breaking into Kia/Hyundai models since their 2021 scandal and poor response to owners. It doesn't matter if your car is new or fixed. People see either of those decals and they take a shot at it. I'm not dealing with that. So Sentra it was.

Dead 1 day after purchase

We got the car home Friday evening. On Sunday the car was completely dead. Nissan roadside service jumpstarted the car. When we turned the car off, the side lights flickered for a while. And then the car wouldn’t start back up. The roadside assistance guy said that seems to be a major electrical problem. So he’s going to jumpstart the car tomorrow and we are trying to drive it to the dealership. At this point I just want to turn the car. So so disappointed.
