Awesome SUV
Bought my pf with 110,000 miles love everything about it from the well made leather heated seats to the 31 inch tires. I use my pf for hunting, fishing, and road trips. It has never let met down. It now has 322,000 miles on it with original engine and 5 speed transmission and still running strong with no oil usage. Getting 20 on long highway drives and 16 putting around the country side. I have a 85 toyota 4runner and truthfully would rather drive my pf.
A Few Things to Watch Out For
I was the owner of a 94 Pathfinder that I recently sold. There are a few things that potential buyers should be aware of. The automatic transmissions on these vehicles fail earlier than expected on these vehicles. Nissan is aware of this problem and has even issued a service bulletin about it, but no recall. The problem is that the transmission cooler clogs up with debris and causes the transmission to overheat and fail to the tune of a $2800 rebuild. Second is the exhaust manifolds overheat and crack and or break away from the engine block. Other than that the Pathfinder is fun to drive and quite reliable.

performance&quality
It's a light duty truck, safe, comfort and have many uses tha you can handle easyly. it's not also expensive.
Great 93 Pathfinder
This is one of the best cars I have ever owned. I have been driving it for almost 14 years and it never gave me any big problem. It is amazing. It now has 180,000 miles and still runs great and I get the same fuel consumption as when it new. I wish I could keep it forever.
Still Running
I've had my Pfinder since it was new. It now has 225K and has held up well considering its been subject to Wisc. winters. Mileage is still around 18mpg. Gas prices are making me think about selling, but I trust its reliability so much that I'm having trouble putting a "For Sale" sign on it.
Basic transportation
I bought this vehicle used from a coworker in 2005 and it had 127,000 on it. Well, one transmission and $2,200 later, it has about 147,800. It's a slow truck but reliable. The front seats are truly uncomfortable and need some type of better lumbar support. I worry about the transmission going out again and will be looking for tranny cooler. I just had the exhaust manifold replaced with the tranny last hear. The exhaust is leaking again!! It's not worth fixing. It will just have to hear the noise. This truck doesn't turn very well either. The gas mileage is horrible!! On the highway, you get about 263 miles on a full tank. City driving, you pray you get 180-200 miles on a full tank.
Good to buy use
I have been driving this SUV for 8 years. got it Pre-owned with 31000. The key to this SUV is mtence and you will be ok....
Still a great SVU to drive
Granting that my car is just short of 200,000 miles, it still runs great. Had very minimal repairs considering it's age.
Off-Roading Beast.
My 1994 Pathfinder SE with 107000 miles on it is a beast. This thing tears it up in any offroad situation and takes bumps and dips like they were nothing. it has the huge 31-10.50's on it and goes over everything. It also feels extremely stable when spinning cookies and stuff like that.
Excellent Multi-Purpose Vehicle
I purchased this vehicle when it was two years old and had 22K miles on it. Since then, I have driven it roughly 90K miles over a variety of terrain and it has been an excellent multi-purpose vehicle for me. In the eight years that I have owned the vehicle, I have replaced the battery, CV joints and belts along with the regular scheduled maintanence, oil, lube, tires, etc. I have a hunting lease in Texas and the vehicle performs flawlessly off-road. The range of 4 wheel options combined with the proper transmission settings allows me to creep up and down areas that other stock four wheel drive vehicles would not go. The 31x10.5x15 tires gives me ample clearance over most obstacles.
awesome
I traded for this vehicle from a farmer in kentucky. It has oversized tires and salvage title but looks really cool. I am in late forties, retired white collar and out of character for me to own such a vehicle. It goes anywhere, I have achieved a much better mpg than your avg. We have a land rover, had tahoes... this ole truck better than any I have ever owned! It has provided me with a new liberating hobby I love to get muddy and love to drive the ole pathfinder!!! never leaves you stranded!
Well built little SUV Truck
I bought this truck at a dealership that had 55k on it. It was the best vehicle that I ever owned. The body and the frame will go before the motor will. I put over 300k mileage on this vehicle before I put it to rest this spring! I live in minnesota and the 4x4 works so beautiful and the mileage I got was 16city/21Hwy. I one time I was a chevy person and but with this Pathfinder I had, I'm sticking with Nissan Vehicles.
No more Nissan!
Since first day I bought the car (second hand), it is full of problem! All type of problems and fix a couple of times in some problems, e.g.: the evaporator of A/C, altenator, stearing wheel problems, electric connections, belts, etc. And now, after 133,000 miles, the transmission quite working well. I heard it is a manufacture reliability problem.
Best SUV ever
I have had 2 93XE Pathfinders since 1995 and all I can say is these trucks are tanks. I will keep the one I have now for the rest of my life. Almost 200k miles and it still runs like a clock. I take it everywhere. It has something that few other vehicles have... A soul.

best suv made!!
One of the best trucks made. extremely durable, and they look good to! and last fore ever especially with only 19000 actual mileage!
1993 Nissan Pathfinder 4Dr SE-V6 Auto
Extremely reliable vehicle. Paint still looks good. My uncle bought this vehicle new and I purchased it from him with 75K miles, in 1997. The vehicle now has 240K miles. I've been using the vehicle to tow my motorcycles to race tracks a few times a year, in the heat of California. And still runs great. MPG is about 16city/19hwy - not bad for an older vehicle - using Mobil 1 Synthetic EP 5W30. Just finished installing its 3rd timing belt, water pump, tensioner, valve cover seals, etc. I did notice the valve lifts were a bit dirty/sluggy when I replaced the valve cover seals - need to use an engine cleaner. I will keep this vehicle until it gives up - plus it's only worth about $2500.
Can't Part With Her
After 15 yrs she finally died on me. I did have to have trans rebuilt after 160k mi but what do you expect. Overall very low maintenance as far as I am concerned. Debating rebuilding engine or buying rebuilt. She outlived two marriages so that says a lot. :) Some creature comforts died like cruise control, power door locks and alarm but what car still has all bells and whistles at that age. Body still in very good shape other than dent here and there. 245k mi
I don't understand
I love this truck, runs great looks great very reliable. The one thing I don't understand is this. Why at 10 yrs old is the frame rotted out above both rear tires. This should not happen, the body I could see but not the main steel frame.
1994 Pathfinder SE V-6
I have had this truck for 6 years now and have been pleased with its reliability and performance. Ergonomically though, it needs many improvements. I have driven my truck pretty hard and it has taken some abuse, but it has remained very mechanically sound. I have had front end work and some exhaust work done, but that's not too bad for a nine year old truck. The nerf bars rusted out and had to be replaced and both power window switches had to be replaced.
One of the best SUVs
I bought this vehicle new and have no plans to give it up, even with 122,000 miles. I've got a 5-speed, which is the best transmission for this vehicle. It goes in the snow where other SUVs can't- I've even gone right around stalled Lexus and Jeep SUVs on snow-covered hills. 31" tires definitely improve the ride. Changed valve cover gasket twice, power antenna three times. Other than that and normal maintenance, nothing. If you don't lug the engine, perform maintenance on schedule, and treat it like you want it to run forever, it will. Last of the great Pathfinders.
Served Our Purposes Well
We bought our Pathfinder with the Sport Option to have the spare well mounted outside the cargo hold. For years we used it in truly rugged conditions. It has been down many a lost trail hauling 5-6 kayaks to rivers. Only got stuck at the base of a steep incline once on snowy winter day. Not enough weight in back to keep the tires grounded, but did managed to finally get itself out of trouble just as our friends arrived in a "Jeep Cherokee". Mechanically we have been annoyed with the exhaust pipes breaking just behind the engine block. Really annoying and expensive to fix. We have 250,000 km on this beast.
94 SE
Has been extremely reliable. Granted, the gas mileage is not car-like, but if you want a car you shouldn't be reading this. This is the second pathfinder I have owned, my old one sold with 150K and my current SE has 155k with simple regular maintenance. O2 sensor went out on both trucks as did the speedometer head. Other than that, these things go, go and then keep going. Great off road stability with the stock 31x10.5's.
Gotta Love It!
Very dependable vehicle. Confortable ride, good looks.
Best car I've owned
Bought from a friend with 158,000 on it. Now at 214,225. This is by far the most reliable car I've owned. Never a mechanical issue. The factory alarm went haywire, but was an easy fix to disable it. Driven it up & down the east coast, cross country, through streams, snow, ice, and mud. Tire are expensive. I think that the two existing cup holders are fine where they are. Concealed, but right there and usable, not in the way. Don't know why everyone is complaining about that.
Best little SUV ever!
Great car. Tough as nails. Just drove 500 miles to Myrtle beach sc. And will keep on giving good service. Plan to drive it for many years to come!
Great vehicle
I took my 1994 Nissan Pathfinder over from my brother a number of years ago and it now has nearly 200,000 miles on it. Other than regular maintenance and a cracked exhaust manifold (fixed for $400), I have not had a single problem. this truck is fantastic off road, great around town, and acceptable on the highway. I use it for work, commuting, and offroad driving in the moutains while biking.
Excellent Vehicle
I bought in 2000 at 115k miles, now at 225k. Never a problem. Original clutch and starter, new shocks, battery, alternator, and rear hatch coils. 19 mpg with synthetic oil at 75mph. Car will go anywhere in Rocky Mountains, and have driven cross country several times too, nice on the highway as well as Whiter Rime trail in Canyonlands.
Reliable Compact SUV
I bought my used one-owner, well maintained Pathfinder in 2002. I've put over 50,000 trouble free miles on the truck since I purchased it. Current mileage is 96,000. I've crept along on rough, rutted desert roads many times with out getting stuck. Turning in tight areas takes lots of work. My best highway mileage was slightly over 20 mpg. Combined street/highway mileage is about 17. The engine works hard to push the truck on hills. It could use another 20-30 horsepower. The cup holders were an after thought. The radio speakers are odd sized and it is difficult to find after market replacements. I like the Pathfinder's ruggedness and boxy design.
XE Path
I am happy with it no problems... just maintenance...
Good Car
I like my Pathfinder. I just blew a tire though and had to get a new tire put on.A lot of room inside.Good truck to go camping in. Good gas mileage if you go 55 mph on hwy!
One thing to remember.... timing belt!
I got very unlucky, but it was my own fault. I traded for a '93 pathfinder and did not have the timing belt changed immediately after purchasing it. It does have a belt and not a chain! The vehicle had 150K when I got it. It had the orginal timing belt that broke after I had only owned it for about a month. Be sure to have the timing belt changed. I had to replace a motor. $2500!!!
pathy
i have loved this truck from day 1. my dad messed up the engine from carelessness so i replaced it with another stock engine and have absolutely no problems other than exhaust leaks which are fixed buy headers all and all i love this vehicle from the way it drives to the way it looks.
Best SUV I've ever owned!
This SUV was great - before I lost my Pathfinder due to an accident in which a driver ran a red light and broadsided it. She had 213K miles and I know she would have made it to 300K. The only problem I ever experienced was a broken power steering belt and that was it. This SUV just performed and if maintained properly will last a very long time. I am convinced that even though this model had no airbags it protected me from the accident.
Great SUV
Great on and off road. The pathfinder really has a styling that just doesnt get old.
Great Truck
I've had this truck for several years. It's been the BEST vehicle I've owned to date. Very little mechanical issues have developed. Comfortable and fun to drive. Area of headliner (panel) behind driver seat fell off a couple of year ago. Poor design for cup holders, strong yet ergonomically bad, everything else inside is awesome. Exterior is even better. Paint appears to be in like new condition. Poor acceleration for a V6. Interior noise is a little bit louder now that it was when I first purchased it. It has over 137k miles on it and is still going strong. Will hate to give it up.
Rugged, Reliable and Sporty
I bought it as a second car for use in snowy conditions. I love to use it as my first option now! Amazingly nice handling (for SUV) and extremely reliable. It has had no problems and other than scheduled mant. has needed no mechanic shop visits, despite the 110k on it. Absolutely fantastic piece of machinery.
'93 Pathfinder
The only thing i have had go wrong, has been the electrical. Both the fan and backlights on the dash have gone out, but they've both been easy fixes. Power is a little lacking, but what can be expected of a car this old. i have had no other problems with this car other than minor things that are due to it being an older car.
Not Worth It
This was probably the worst can I ever owned. I bought it used with 150k and although it passed CA smog originally it always had a hesitation on acceleration that no shop or dealer was able to solve. I disliked the driving position. It rode poorly, the brakes were sub-par, the front shocks were changed three times with no ride quality improvement. It got terrible mileage like @15 mpg and less with AC on. Terrible bump-steer on the freeway. Lots of squeeks and rattles. On the plus side it had nice wheels and the AC worked good. I was happy to get rid of it.
A great little truck
I purchased the Pathfinder with 87,000 miles as a third vehicle in a family of two. Twenty nine months later the vehicle has 119,000 miles and has been worry free ( sort of ). The things that have broken have been minor. Gas mileage at about 14 city is a bit less than I would like but I'm still driving it. One thing one should expect. This truck rides like a truck.
money burner
I purchaced a used pathfinder in 1998, it had 80k on it and looked sharp. The problems soon followed; brakes, transmission, starter, running boards rusting off, etc.
pathfinder
is very reliable in the snow,I travel from NY to FL couple times with no problem at all.
Good-Fun Small Family SUV!
We've been really happy with our '94 Pathfinder XE. Though it's the base model, it is loaded with many convienience features that make living with it day to day a treat. My family and I use it primarily for camping and light off roading--and it serves our needs just fine.
Bullet Proof
This vehicle is the real deal, a body- on-frame SUV that is not a fancy 4WD station wagon. Mine has 210K miles, have had it since it was new, no major problems yet. If the preventative maintenance has been done: buy one.
Best SUV for your money
I've owned mine for 5 years, and it is up to 110,000 miles. Other than routine maintenence, only had to replace the alternator- very reliable. Very comfortable- I'm 6'4" tall, and have tried other cars and SUVs, and fit in the Pathfinder best. If I ever decide to sell the '94, I'll probably buy a new Pathfinder.
Inexpensive, Quality, SUV
My original intent for purchasing this vehicle was for light-medium off roading, and camping. It serves that purpose well. My Pathfinder is very reliable and is easy to work on. I've added on a transmission cooler to help with wear and tear on the tranny. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone looking for an inexpensive and reliable SUV.
Great Car
Our Pathfinder has been a great car, so much so, that we are thinking of getting another one again. The only drawback - mileage, but it's the same with all SUV's that size. Even after all of these years it still looks great!
Still luvin it
Well, after thirteen years, I have put on four new sets of tires and two new batteries. The only rust is the rear bumper, which is barely still there and the only bad visual part. This week I found out the hard way that the Timing Belt should have been changed every 60,000 miles. Replacing it would be cheap, but I'm told there may be substantial damage to the pistons which would not be cheap at all. Still, if I could be sure I can get 100,000 more miles out of her I'd pay up in a heartbeat.
Pathfinder quality
Bought the car at 89K, til now its 200K, no major problems but wear and tear. Engine is supreme.
Decent car
Still love the exterior design of the car much more than the more recent models. Classic design. Seats are comfortable, dash is easy to read, cargo space is ample, and tires are great. Gas mileage is horrible. Have often taken it on road trips and it costs me an arm and a leg. Acceleration is about as slow as could be. Often take to the mountains and have to drive in the slow lane with my emergencies on.
pathfinder my faithful SUV
my black suv pathfinder has been a great vehicle. I have had little problems with this SUV and have driven my miles and have climbed my mountains. I have taken good care of this vehicle by changing the oil and tune ups at the recommended times the timing chain has been changed x2. There are some problem such as the tapeplayer not working and some of the small assessories have broken or fallen apart.
