If only the dealers....

I felt I got a good deal on the car, but my father warned me that Mitsubishi dealers are far and few between, and terrible. He was right. After owning a Saturn, and being spoiled by Saturn service, it was quite a shock the first, and subsequent times, I returned my car to Mitsubishi for service. I gave them a horrible rating on my after ownerwhip feedback card, and never heard a peep from them.

I have owned this car since new, putting 135,000 miles on it. Mitsubishis are fun to drive because they are a light car, not over engineered. My Galant gets very good gas mileage, about 28 mpg (I do 80 percent highway miles and 20 percent rural driving with few stop lights). Quality and reliability is probably a little bit below Honda and Toyota, however the cost of the vehicle new is below the other brands, and used Mitsubishis are fairly inexpensive. The two bugaboo's with this car is the brakes - the rotors warp and there is really no solution so just drive it with warped rotors - and the dealers which are far and few between. If you can find a local mechanic that is good you'll be fine.

I love this car. I have had it for three years. I have 147,000 miles on it and runs great. My husband and I own an auto repair shop, and rarely see Mitsubishis. My Galant died one time on me - the belt broke and the car shut down to prevent overheating. I had a Mitsubishi before and they have features no one else has such as headers, easy access in engine compartment (especially for an import), three low gears (vs. 2) if manually shifting (extra power to pass, etc.). I am going to keep this car for many more years. I can't complain about the lack of items that were obviously not part of the vehicle when bought - heated seats, no light in back seat, bigger back seat, etc. Yes, dealers are hard to find and provide bad service. But I am biased against all dealers. Go Independent.
