Great car for teens
This was the car I was given on my 16th birthday, and I had only been driving three and a half months, when one day while driving home I stopped for a yellow light and thought the semi-truck behind me had enough room, it didn't I was rear-ended while the truck was going about 45 mph. Both my sister and I were fine with only minor aches and pains and if someone had been in the back seat of my car they would have been doing better. I would completely buy this car again.
So far so good!
I bought my 98 eclipse GS 5 months ago w/32k on it and I am very happy with it. I have the full package w/ the auto tran and haven't had any problems with it. If you are considering one of these I would highly recomend it! However, some words of warning. First, the front end of this car is so low you may scrap it up on parking blocks, driveway etc. Second, if you want a manual be aware, some of these engines have whats called a walking crank. Its mostly in sticks w/the turbo but, this flaw can lead to a trashed engine (thats why mines has an auto tran) , be prepare to get it fixed. The g2 95-99 eclipse is relible and an excellent buy! they turn heads and are extremly fun!
not bad at all so far
I have had the car for about 7 months so far and have had one minor problem with it and that was with the check engine light. it was just a simple replacement of the gas cap. the car moves for a a heavy 4 cyc but i wish it had a little more pep (and i have the manual). since i've lowered it and added 18" rims and tires with a strut bar it handles WAY BETTER. I would would recommend this car. the car is definately a head turner.
Eclipse RS
This is the first and only car I have ever owned; we've been through a lot together. (It took a few years for me to finally stop scraping the front end, for example.) I was admittedly pretty hard on it the first year or 2, so the work done is even more remarkable considering that. I've had to get a new fuel pump, radiator hose, timing chain, and brake pads. It's still fun to drive although the pick up has declined, and it seems like some piece of plastic falls off the interior all the time. The paint job hasn't proven hardy, either, and rain occasionally leaks through the hatch opening. It's hard for older people to sit down, but once they do it's pretty comfortable.
sweet car!!
bought it with 15K, now have 40k, no problems (with regular maintenance). turbo needs to be taken care of, but nothing major. ride is choppy: you feel every bump. ride is also noisy, but not really noticeable. radio is directly in front of shifter: cant use it while in first gear
