Crosswind assist, the worst technology ever

An annoyed driver, 05/17/2025
2024 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 170" WB Cargo 3dr Ext Van AWD w/High Roof (2.0L 4cyl Turbodiesel 9A)

We rented a sprinter van to go cross country. It was spacious, however the seats in the back row were so narrow that the buckle would dig into your sides. My biggest complaint with it is the crosswind assist “feature”. Yeah it assists, assists the winds at taking you off the road! I lost count of how many times it automatically and abruptly applied the brakes when a strong wind was pushing us around. The crosswind assist was scarier than the actual crosswinds. This vehicle is essentially a giant kite going down the road. The rest stops along the way were a nice reprieve from the stress of white knuckling the steering wheel trying to wrestle against the wind.If anybody from Mercedes is reading this, I have a better idea at how to assist with crosswinds. Make the vehicle more aerodynamic with a lower center of gravity.

Terrible engine

I have issues since the beginning brand new with the van. I let it idle 10-15 mins before going to work, for my comfort since I live in a cold climate. Vehicle shuts off, dealer said its a egr problem and they said the mercedes engineers told them to not idle these vans. What?? Lets buy a 65k van, and freeze my ass off all the way to work and then back. Ridiculous. Stay away!
