2024 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Consumer Reviews

1st van, I'm really liking it! 18-26 mpg, business
Waited for 2019, happy I did. A few warranty items taken care of by dealership. January got gelled up at -30. Lesson learned-only #1 diesel and additive to prevent. Dealership covered my $1500 bill!! Seems reliable and safe for the miles I put on in 4 different states for my business. Note: seems much different than all the Mercedes sedans that I have owned. I shouldn't compare. Attention to details in chassis panel gaps, wavyness of panels, just doesn't seem "perfect". Yes, plenty of power, but that decreases mpg. It's there when needed. 18-26 mph on v6 diesel. High profile is challenging on windy days, but it has a safety slow down feature that prevents tipping. Overall, 10 months in I'm satisfied. Would recommend.

Stay away from Mercedes!
This poor excuse for a vehicle is, once again, in the Mercedes dealer shop for a bad EGR valve. It has been there for 2 months and I just heard it will be at least another 6 months before Mercedes can manufacture the part. They won't even allow us to take the van as it is an emmissions problem. This is the 3rd time for the same issue and each time it has taken at least 2 months to get repaired because, apparently, they have so many issues with this problem they can't keep up. Even pre covid it was the same thing so that's not the issue. I've appled to have the van bought back under our state lemon law and been rejected each time with no explanation. There are no loaners, no compensation no nothing for having our $70,000 vehicle spend half it's life in 'Mercedes Jail". Avoid this piece-o like the plague and avoid Mercedes as well. if they won't take care of a repeat commercial customer who are they going to take care of? Bad vehicle, BAD COMPANY! Say away. If I could give it zero stars I would.

February 2021 update.
Update: The differential has now been replaced. It is not perfect, but is a solid 75% improvement. Still a little whine but not close to how loud the whine was previously. The axle came so complete, it even had rotors and brake pads attached. The whole complete axle was replaced. Loving the van, still a shame that I had to go 12,000 miles before it was repaired, it took six months but is now satisfactory.

Watch Out!
We have a 2019 Sprinter diesel in our small delivery fleet and it has been a real disappointment. It is sitting once again at the dealer where it has been for over 2 months and I just heard that it will likely be another 6 months before the EGR valves are back in stock and it can be fixed. This is the 3rd lengthy stay at the shop for the same issue and each time it has taken months to get the part so it must be a very common issue. As it is an emissons control problem they won't let the van even be taken from their lot so our van is in Mercedes Jail once again! I have appled to Mercede to take the van back under our state lemon law twice and each time have been turned down without any reason being given. Now we will have to file for arbitration and then I guess we get to go to court! Mercedes has offered NOTHING to help assuage the fact that we've had use of the vehile barely half the time we've owned it. No loaners, no compensation, no nothing! I would stay away from the diesels and even the company as if they won't help a commerical customer who buys a vehilce for 70K who are they going to help? Bad vehicle, bad company. Stay away.
Miserable to drive
I work for FedEx Express and we have a 2019 version in our fleet, I hate taking the route it is on because I always get stuck with this stupid van, it is an utmost displeasure to drive. Every time you press down the pedal you can count on it sitting still for at least a second and a half to two seconds before it starts to accelerate, there's no consistency either, so it's a big gamble pulling out into traffic when it's busy. There's no in-between on acceleration either, this thing either rolls along at 2mph or thinks you are giving it the beans, you try for an easy acceleration and it will just sit there while the person behind you is on their brakes thinking you're a giant a-hole for driving so slow. Once you get to speed this thing always hunts around for gears. I am trying to drive in bad traffic and I have to deal with this thing jerking and shaking me around to boot, you can imagine how happy this makes me. Getting in and out of this thing sucks too. I am usually running in and out of this thing all day delivering and after I leave the vehicle it might lock the doors on me or it might not. If I come back and hit the unlock button once it usually won't unlock the doors so I have to lock it and then unlock it to get the locks to open. The buttons on the fob don't work consistently enough to make this an easy step so most of the time I am screwing with the locks for 10 or fifteen seconds every time I enter the vehicle. I enter this vehicle over 100 times a day, you can imagine how frustrating this gets. Starting this thing can also be a huge pain. Most of the time it works, but every so often it will ask me to put the key in the designated spot shown in the manual. I usually hit the locks and it will do the trick, but I hate having to do this when I am trying to get somewhere fast. Sometimes everything will be fine and the ignition will not start after holding down the button but will turn on after I have turned the vehicle off momentarily. After you get it the start and you put it into drive, you have to pull the ebrake button to get the parking brake to disengage. The older sprinters have a lever and it's great, it takes one second to disengage the parking brake. You have to wait like three seconds for this thing to disengage because there's a complex hydraulic brake that has to disengage. It's like catching your shirt on something as you are running. Driving this thing on the highway can be scary sometimes because it tries to correct your steering while changing lanes. I've had it abruptly turn on me while I made a VERY gradual maneuver, the beginning of my merge was exactly the way I intended but halfway through it must have thought I was loosing control because it sharply completed the merge. I hate it when technology is engineered to take control of the vehicle, I NEED TO BE IN CONTROL. The technology is over the top, I just want something I can get around in without having to hop, skip, do a little jig, and say the magic word to drive the vehicle a block down the road and repeat the process 100 times a day. If I wasn't a delivery driver and I needed to purchase a vehicle like this for myself, I'd get an Ford Econoline or something similar. Something with a key. Something that wouldn't cost an arm and a leg to repair. I have no idea why Express is still buying these, they are losing so much money on time spent operating them. Maybe the one we have is a lemon, go out and drive though, it might be right up your alley.

Sprinter View lack of customer care
Loss of power issue has not been diagnosed and solved despite 12 days (so far) in Sprinter shop over two year period. Mercedes “customer care” will not help us with out of pocket expenses due to trip interruption in spite of their inability to fix what they build. This is a serious safety issue, but that makes no difference to them. These vehicles are over-engineered, with 40 computers (they said), providing abundant opportunities for failure. My biggest complaint is the total lack of empathy by MB. My advice is to avoid Benz products altogether unless you are willing to work on them yourself, and if so, good luck!

JUNK
One word - JUNK !!!!! Problems with EGR - The Crosswind sensor locks up - Little wind and goes from side to side like drunk - Crossing the bridge you have to pray for no winds - Seats are made so close to the door rubbing your leg . Like I said expensive piece of sh...t .
Dangerous on Highway - Rear wheel locks up.
Bought used 2019 Sprinter Cargo Extended and had problems from day 1, first the EGR valve was malfunctioning but the worst issue is the driver side rear wheel locks up for approximately 1 second while driving, especially while driving at high speeds full or empty. Took to Mercedes service, was told the brakes need to be changed although when I bought 5 months ago the truck had new back brakes, anyway I agreed to have the rear brakes changed if this would solve the problem but it did not help, the problem did not go away. Took to Mercedes service again today and left with them to resolve this problem. I made it very clear that this is a serious problem and Mercedes needs to fix this problem or I can end up in a serious accident especially since I drive on the highway a lot. I am tempted to sell this van but I really do not want to pass on this serious problem to an unsuspecting buyer.

What a difference a over last generation
I had a 14 (lemon) and 15 (rear air issues). The 12 passenger option is gone for the 170. It is now a 15 pax. Would have preferred the 12 version so i could get more cargo room, but with 10 grandkids now, the 15 pax is probably better. Maintenance cost can be scary but I prebought this time. The interior redesign is outstanding. The driver and front passenger upgraded seats are worth it. GREAT THIGH SUPPORT. The engine is okay with the 7 speed and has better acceleration than previous version. The absence of the 4 cylinder this year is disappointing. On the 2015 with the 4cyl i got mid 20s sometimes. I got around 18 mpg on the road with the 2019. Hoping for low 20s when broken in more. Rear redesign for seats is great as well. I am hoping no rear issues like previous generation. Got rid of 2018 Transit 350 HD. Ford wouldn’t fix issues with van and wouldn’t buy back. Mercedes is well worth the extra cost over Ford. Steer clear of other makes. The Sprinter is the way to go. One drawback this year are color choices and options. Factory basically put out two colors Jet Black or Arctic White and two options packages 67K or 58K. Go for the higher optioned one it is worth it.

Very dissatisfied.
I bought a 2019 Mercedes-Benz 3500XD cab chassis with a flatbed on it on December 30,2021. I was told that I was the first owner of the truck and it had 6,373 miles on it when bought it. I have had it for exactly three months as of today and it has been in the shop more than half that time. There is a front end vibration that they cannot get rid of. They found that the lower bolt on one of the links that connects the sway bar to the front A-arm was missing. They replaced the bolt, but have not been able to eliminate the vibration. It is better but not correct. It is only marginally acceptable. Now that that vibration has been reduced I can feel what seems to be an out-of-balance driveline. They missed checking this out the last time it was in the shop. The electronics in the dash failed and they replaced several parts of that. I still have the mileage recorder randomly resetting itself. Three of the cab lights were leaking and they were fixed. The throttle assembly was stiff and sticking and they replaced the throttle position sensor (TPS). There was a serious hesitation on mild to moderate acceleration. The dealer ship said they took off the Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve (EGR), cleaned it and replaced. However, the Carfax update shows that they replaced the EGR valve. There have been five factory recall items that have been fixed and there is one recall item that is still outstanding. I am waiting to have it fixed. It has something to do with the vehicle's suspension, brakes or emergency brake system from what the service manager told me. They replace two of the three lids on the cargo boxes on the dash because they locked and would not open. There are several other things that I cannot recall right at the moment that have been repaired and I have forgotten. In the three months I have owned the vehicle, I have only been able to use it one time in my work. I lack the confidence that I need to take the truck across the US to pick up some equipment in ordered for my business. I am not a happy owner. If I had had any idea that this was what I was getting into I would never have purchased the truck.

Not again !!
On my second sprinter, both 3500 dual rear cab and chassis with a service body, the first unit had multiple minor issues and then at 100k needed a catalytic converter and 3500 worth of work, the second unit needed a transmission at 55000, emissions work at 65000, and now 4400 worth of work to replace intake manifolds, the problem is very few places work on the mercedes and parts are expensive, I'm buying a ford transit now with the proven eco boost, I've had one for 3 years and has been a solid truck
TERRIBLE experience.. TERRIBLE.
I drove my brand new 2020 4*4 High Roof Sprinter from MD to CO in early April. I left MD and the van had 47 miles on it.. brand spankin' new.. experienced torrential downpour while traveling through the Midwest.. as I drive into KS, suddenly 'DO NOT SHIFT GEARS - SERVICE REQUIRED' populates on the dash. I pull over at a Shell station in Oakley, KS and fill the tank.. the van won't start and won't go back from P to DRIVE. I had to get a 265 mile tow to the Littleton, CO Benz dealership (the van had about 1300 TOTAL miles on it) - an absolute nightmare scenario. I cancelled my van build and sold the stupid van back to Benz.. NEVER AGAIN.

Pretty pathetic
Pretty pathetic that Edmunds includes a review of an 11-year-old similar model under the reviews of the redesigned 2019 Sprinter, and factors it in the numerical average. Perhaps these reviews should be reviewed before publication. I like mine, no complaints so far.
Major Upgrade!
I sold my 2016 Sprinter and purchased this 2020 Sprinter as a replacement. Every day I am discovering more things to love about this van. The technology is light years ahead of the 2016 model. The 10” touch screen is a must, as are the steering wheel mounted controls. The adaptive cruise and other optional features usually offered only in passenger models, are now available for the Sprinter. Even the seats are much more comfortable. By far the best van I have owned so far.

So good so far but the stereo sucks
I’m at 5,000 miles. Just changed the oil. Do not follow manufacturer’s 10,000 mile oil change guideline; change the oil every 5,000. Also, the stereo system has five speakers of which you can hear one; the middle one. The dealers know this but have no fix. I’m starting a case to get them to fix it. I think the other four speakers work but only at the lowest level but the volume control on works for the one, middle speaker. Mine is a 2019. There is a Sprinter Forum for owners, and they describe how they take apart stuff and solder stuff. And I’m thinking: why don’t these owners make the manufacturer fix them?! It’s kind of amusing, but really annoying

Lousy electronics
This van has only 89 miles on it and the Rear license plate light went out, The doors don’t seem to ever want to close property, the windshield washer fluid sprayer doesn’t work, this van is a far cry from my 2020 Ford Transit, I had no idea how bad the electric bugs are on these Sprinters

Vehicle not trust worthy
Engine blew up at 9,358 miles. They go for 100's of thousands, could have fooled me. Do not know what model to select below but the unit is a Winnebago conversion. An boy is that another story. Nothing but issues with the Winnebago. Basically, the whole unit is a POS

Solid and economical - 4 cyl 2.0!
I've only driven my new van about 300 miles so this review is a bit early. Though I hate it on other cars, the safety features of automatic braking and lane management work very well. I also live in cold Wyoming and this van is producing heat from the ducts within 1 mile of my house! This is a pure cargo van with no luxuries in the back, but it is very comfortable to drive.

Do not buy a sprinter van
We have a 2008 sprinter van which has all the good characteristics you menitioned but is very expensive to repair. We have had to replace two front headlight assemblies on the passenger side (1500 to 1700 dollars) and now we are told theHID bi-xenon are no longer available. Mopar customer care (Dodge Chrysler’s) said and I quote “this part has been discontinued- is no longer supplied by mopar. At this time I will be closing this case. “ Jacob mopar Customer assistance We planned to leave this week on a cross country trip - we have searched the internet, eBay etc for the headlight. this van 80,000 dollars plus, 11 years old and we can not get replacement parts.

Most dangerous vehicle I've ever driven
This 2023 slides on ice sway in the wind. Goes out of control when crossing lines. Gets stuck in a inch of snow. 360 turns on ice. I'm terrified to drive my own van. . I don't recommend especially for women

Sprinter for life!
The second 2500 van ... still have the first! Yes, you can expect an expensive repair on occasion but the overall value is a total win. Fuel economy and excellent features and comfort. You can not beat the handling ... fantastic turning radius ... easy city parking ... and with the newer 6 cylinder diesel ... a ton of power!
Amazing Work Van
- Bulletproof Van , like a German tank ! Very comfortable driving, light steering & very reliable. 150k km still strong , smooth driving & excellent fuel economy!! 3.0 Diesel standard roof 2019!!

Crosswind assist, the worst technology ever
We rented a sprinter van to go cross country. It was spacious, however the seats in the back row were so narrow that the buckle would dig into your sides. My biggest complaint with it is the crosswind assist “feature”. Yeah it assists, assists the winds at taking you off the road! I lost count of how many times it automatically and abruptly applied the brakes when a strong wind was pushing us around. The crosswind assist was scarier than the actual crosswinds. This vehicle is essentially a giant kite going down the road. The rest stops along the way were a nice reprieve from the stress of white knuckling the steering wheel trying to wrestle against the wind.If anybody from Mercedes is reading this, I have a better idea at how to assist with crosswinds. Make the vehicle more aerodynamic with a lower center of gravity.

Terrible engine
I have issues since the beginning brand new with the van. I let it idle 10-15 mins before going to work, for my comfort since I live in a cold climate. Vehicle shuts off, dealer said its a egr problem and they said the mercedes engineers told them to not idle these vans. What?? Lets buy a 65k van, and freeze my ass off all the way to work and then back. Ridiculous. Stay away!
