I purchased a new 2011 sprinter 2500 cargo in March of 2012 as a leftover. It started out with poor shifting from the auto trans, soft mushy breaks, serious hesitation when trying to accelerate, especially at low speeds. That was just at the beginning. Right off the lot there wasn't even a working horn. In the first year the radio went out and the dealer wouldn't let me upgrade the radio to the better factory one. They told me I had to replace it with the one I had or just keep the non-working one and live without a radio. At first I got great fuel mileage, I started out for the first 38,000 miles getting an average of 23+ mpg that has now at 50,400 miles dropped to 16-17, even though I was told that it would get better around 35,000 miles when the engine was broken in. Well at 38,000 I lost 2 mpg. Then by 41,000 I had lost an additional 2 mpg. Currently it's down another 3 mpg. The stock answer I've received from Sprinter dealer techs in 3 states, CA, PA, AZ, is that I was getting better mileage than anyone else and now it's just down to what everyone else is getting and that I should be happy I did so well for the time I did. I've driven my sprinter back and forth from southern CA to southeast PA 5 times so as you can surmise most of my 50,400 miles had been cross country driving. In just this past year, since being stranded for 3 days in AZ in June 2015 for a transmission problem, my truck has been in the shop in 3 different states, been looked at by 5 different dealerships in those 3 states and it's been in 2 private shops in 2 different states. Mostly for engine light issues as well as all of the originally stated problems along with the loss of mpg. I was assigned a factory Case Rep from the Mercedes headquarters in NJ but that hasn't helped in the least. On my most recent drive from PA to CA, just a couple of weeks ago, July 2016, my newest issue came up. I now have added Cruise control issues to the list of problems. Intermittently not holding speed, shutting off for no reason while cruising, and not shutting off several times after applying the breaks. In this past year it's been in one shop or another 8 times for the engine light coming on, several times for the ABS light, once for the Traction light (whatever that is). It's currently at the local dealer's shop, and has been for 7 days as of today, for ABS light, engine light, cruise control issues, mpg issues, and breaking issues. SO... they're nice to look at but PLEASE take my advice and don't buy one!!! Well since writing the above review my van was in the shop several more times for the engine light coming on and for 2 dash warnings: Seatbelt sys. Visit Workshop, and SRS Restraint System Visit Workshop. The dealer agreed with me that both warnings are a safety issue but that they're not covered by the warranty. I also got a recall notice about the airbags but the dealer said until they figure out what to do just hope I don't have an accident. Aren't they nice. All I can say is, and I'll be as kind as I can be in saying that if you buy a sprinter you're an idiot. I'm just trying to get through the warranty and then I'm trading it in on a new Ford or Ram with the same body style. Jan 2018 update: On my yearly cross country drive in 2017 I was stranded in NM in June 2017 for a couple of days. The dealer discovered that my problem was with the DEF system, which by the way had been completely replaced one year earlier in 2016, so they replaced the whole system again. Anyway, it's now Jan 2018 and now I have need for a glow-plug and the dealer tells me to replace all 6 would cost just under $1,000.00 as long as they don't run into a problem. If even one doesn't come out easily it could end up costing an additional $3,000.00 just to replace the plugs because they would have to take the engine head off. I just need to get this piece of junk back to PA in the spring so I can trade it off for a real vehicle. I already have a deal worked out with a Ford dealership in PA to take this rolling piece of xxxx off my hands. Fuel mileage is still bad compared to what I was getting for the first 38,000 miles. It's still down from (23.5 mpg) to (16-17). PLEASE DON'T BUY ONE OF THESE HUNKS OF JUNK !!!!!! Update as of Jan 26, 2019 Still drives like crap. Needed a glow plug and was told by the dealer that it would cost anywhere from $350 on the low side to $3500-$4000 on the high side. WTF! I found an aftermarket garage who changed it for $230. $230 to change a damn spark plug (ONE PLUG $230). I can't wait to get back to the east coast where I have a Ford dealer prepared to take this garbage pile off my hands and is giving me a new Transit for a fleet price for dumping my Sprinter. Please, Please, Please, don't buy one of these junk heaps! I'm now back on the east coast. The engine light is still on, 10 years now, but the brakes finally work because the front shocks are shot after only 83,000 miles. I'm working with Enterprise Car Sales to get a Transit.

Best 12 passenger van

ehibma, 10/06/2013

This is by far the best 12 passenger van on the market! We have put on about 10K miles now. We knew within 5 minutes that we hated the GM/Ford/Dodge vans. Those domestic vans drove horrible and were unsafe. No headrests, kids had to duck under seatbelts. We then found the Sprinter van. This has been wonderful. We get stopped all the time to ask what kind of van we have. The diesel motor has plenty of power and has been smooth up and down hills, with plenty of pickup power. We have found the "lacks power" reviews unfounded. The seats are comfortable and supportive, and we love being able to walk through to the back to help the kids when necessary. A big family delight!

I got this to replace the 3500 express van. I needed a reliable flexible unit. What a joke. You can't take the rear seat out unless you visit the dealer; if you take out the middle seats it requires two people and one of them had better be quite healthy. And watch the floor if the seat hits it or gets dragged across it the vinyl gets peeled up or cut (no carpeting). A padded door armrest would have bee nice, but most vans don't have these now a days. All the interior panels rattle when chilly outside and reach a horrendous crescendo when cold. The brakes squeal so bad people cover their ears and wince when you use them lightly. Dealers recommendation step on the brakes harder. The transmission has a mind of its own; 25 mph in a small town it won't shift until you speed to get the revs over 3000 then up shifts 3 times and then down shifts and up shifts until it gets to where it should have been in the first place (I was told this was normal...right). DEF issues are normal for this unit - 3 tries and 20 days in the shop before I could travel any distance (200 miles). Speaking of DEF problems the start countdown can not be trusted. The DEF warning goes from 13 to 5 or where ever it wants to stop. Dealers recommendation/warning "don't shut off the van". Starting issues at times (usually inconvenient). It won't start unless you keep cycling the key back and forth (hot-cold- first start- multiple starts, just whenever). No plug in for cold weather, the Sprinter needs to be parked in a garage. Bonus: keep the Sprinter in its' own house when cold and snowy and the windows will work (for a while). The top speed is limited to 78 mph, our speed limit is 80 mph. Mercedes answer "who needs to go faster than 78". I paid thousands more for less reliability and only 3 more miles to the gallon. On a plus side the seats, heated mirrors, and cruise control (when not windy) are great. If it gets a it too windy the cruise control shuts off. Basically count on this van costing you about $2.25 per mile just to pay for the thing. Got rid of it with only 9500 miles on the odometer, lost 20k in cash and damaged reputation of not being able to make it when needed. Reputation was salvaged a bit later (thanks Penske). Corporate really doesn't care and one rep kind of chuckled at my dilemma. No wonder FedEx is starting to use Transits; which is what I finally did, and am totally happy with it.

The emissions system will cost tens of thousands of dollars potentially. After 90,000 the fist multi thousand dollar repair of the DEF tank/ pump occurred. At 190,000 the repairs landslides with DEF, multiple codes and poor mileage. My chevy Van was a relic yet ran and ran to 500,000. This think is bankrupting me. Repairs this year are one $5500 for the emission system. It runs at night and I cant sleep wondering when the next call will come with another breakdown and a $2000 price tag.

When I bought my 2015 4x4 Sprinter, I thought it was going to be amazing. By the third day I realized I had made a mistake. The van had a very bad noise coming from the back. It got worse, then the roof leaked. I had to drive it 4 hours to the nearest dealer to get it fixed and I had not even gotten it home yet. I fought with them over a rental as it was less than a week old. Took 14 days to fix while I was stranded and unable to work. the fix's didn't work and I entered into a months long battle to get repairs done. Ultimately the Van spent most of the first 90 days in the shop with no loaner. It is legally a lemon and MB USA agreed to buy it back but that was months ago and they have said nothing since. The people who work at Corporate have no integrity to their word and they refuse to put anything in writing. I paid 55K for a van I have not been able to use. When I did use it, for it's intended purpose cross country trips I was able to get just shy of 20K on the van before the power steering went out on a mountain Switchback. That put it back in the shop for more than a month and they have no explanation for how the hose came loose, and after more than 10K in parts and expenses working on the vibration/noise from the suspension, they come to the conclusion it is "natural harmonics" of the van. Again, not fixed, and still vibrating and no explanation for how a clamped and secure hose came off. The dealers have drank the kool aid and will lie and back up the Manufacturer on the record. Off the record they say the guys in Germany are a bunch of jerks who won't listen and treat the mechanics Like idiots who can't get it. After being out the van so long and having such horrendous support from both the dealers and the manufacturer, I would not recommend the van. when the first few months of ownership are so bad, you would think they would want it off the road and out of your hands so as to not prove just how bad it really is. Instead, they sent me a letter saying they are going to buy it back and then did nothing. Lawyers have told me they will drag this out as long as they can to save money since their attorneys are staff and they outsource the buyback process to a third party who is commissioned by giving you the lowest price they think they can. In other words they are paid to screw you, Literally. Google highest award lemon lawsuit in history Mercedes or impartial services group. When you sum this up, it's poorly manufactured and they can't fix the problem. Even worse is europeans from sprinter chat rooms are contacting me saying they have the same problems and want to know if I found a solution. They don't love the "natural Harmonics" answer. Worse is the popularity of the ford is killing resale value so I can't even sell it for a fair price and it is a few months old. Best offer is 15K less than I paid for it. 4 months old and a 15K discount.. Pretty Sad. Update: 15k spent and 4x4 still not fixed. Mercedes sent me a buyout offer of 4K to go away knowing the new transfer case that should have been put in before the warranty expires was 6K. The power steering hose is a serious and common problem. There is no known cause. Furthermore many are reporting that biodiesel rots the fuel system and costs 6K+ in repairs. My first instance of biodiesel in Illinois caused sensor failure in the fuel system. That was another three days for repairs and I had to wait a week to get into a dealer since they were so backed up. The catalytic converters gum up and go bad and that is another 6k repair. Lots of people pissed about this. The antenna has been fixed 4 times. It is a bad design and a pain in the but to deal with. The only tech who seemed to know his stuff in the whole country is a Brit who worked on them in the uk. He is in Colorado and even he could not fix my van completely. He fixed two things and something else went wrong. The dealer support nationwide is a joke. Very few trained technicians and lots of people learning on your dime. Parts take weeks to months to get in and down time is unacceptable. I was recently in an accident and while I appreciate walking away from a sub 40 mile an hour collision, the van will be totaled because of the way it was constructed and the cost and lead time on parts. After such a terrible ownership experience, it is a fitting end. Do not buy this Van. Especially considering the the 2018 will be a fully new model with a different engine and no carry over. Meaning they are not investing in improving this model and its parts. I can go on and on about how bad this is in reality. You can google it. The best article yet came from an expeditor company whose CEO bashed the van after years of unacceptable problems failed to get resolved. Google "the fatal flaw of Mercedes Benz sprinters" linked in. I had read many negative reviews about the sprinter before I bought it. The size and 4x4 capabilities made me overlook it. It bankrupted my transportation business in 90 days. I

I have 4 of the mercedes sprinter vans and all 4 are the biggest waste of money and down time I've ever had to deal with...excluding the trash I take out every Tuesday night!! Well perhaps that too is better. When a dealer tells you the fuel is contaminated...they really mean they have no idea what's wrong with it. Go ahead and buy one for 55k but hear me out...you WILL spend another 55k just in repairs...sensor this...sensor that blah blah blah. Run to a dodge dealer please!!! Or whomever that makes a better product.

If you are buying a MB Sprinter 6 cylinder diesel for city driving buy a four cylinder. I have had Ford, Chevrolet, Dodge,Toyota,Chrysler Van's and trucks By far Mercedes Benz Sprinter 2500 length 144 by fr has been the best vehicle we have owned. Over the past 7 years the cost for Maintance at the delray and outside the dealer has been $10,000.00 . The cost for oil changers, def system change ( under warranty) Brakes, belt change , inside heater/ cooling blower, shocks, the rods, new stereo. That is all that has been repaired or replaced in 7 years. We have driven this vehicle in 10 states pulling a trailer at 70 miles an hour. Service e your Sprinter at MB Dealers and the Van will last!!

Sprinter 4x4 Good van but expensive maintenance

This is actually a 6 cyl turbo diesel We sold our 2012 Mercedes Sprinter, which we loved, for a 2015 Sprinter 4x4. We needed the 4x4 as we live on a hill that gets icy and snowy in the winter. With 2wd there is so much torque coming from the turbodiesel that even with Blizzak snow tires we had trouble getting out. With the 4x4 this is a true go-anywhere vehicle! By the way, this is a 6 cylinder model, but Edmunds would give that option for writing the review. The 4x4 (which is actually an AWD system that can be engaged or disengaged) is only available with the 6 cyl engine. We have 8 children, so our family vehicle options are very limited. We drove Chevy express vans and they were horrible! This is the best van available for this size family. It is definitely far from perfect, but still the best available. Update 4/2016: We just completed another trip from Michigan to Alabama and had to leave with a freak April snow storm. We had 3 hours of pure ice highways to contend with and had to leave the 4x4/AWD system engaged on the highway all the way south to Indianapolis. It worked great even when having to pass in the ice and snow and held the van stable even though our snow tires are put away for the season. 4/2017 update. 34,000 miles in and the van has been great. Had a failure of the auxiliary heaters that was thankfully repaired under warranty, otherwise would have cost a couple thousand dollars. We still love it! We just went to IKEA and could haul everything without having to take out any seats. Pros: -strong, efficient motor -4x4!! -each seat has a head rest -rubber flooring that is easy to clean -comfortable impact-absorbing front seats. -the HID headlights are wonderful for night visibility -heats up quickly in the winter with the auxiliary heater. With the roof height it is ideal for getting the kids' coats off and buckled in their car seats -the crosswind assist is definitely a nice feature that has made driving this on the highway much nicer compared to our 2012 model. -decent towing capacity -good backup camera -great side mirrors with blind spot mirrors. -pass-through cabin so that a parent can get back and forth to help the kids on trips. -finally a USB connection so I can plug in my iphone -excellent gas mileage for such a large vehicle -excellent storage capacity inside the van. Carry-on luggage items fit under the seats! -You can slide large items all the way through the van under the seats (I did have to build a divider to keep our groceries from sliding all the way to the front of the van, but I love that I can fit lumber along the floor of the van even with all the kids loaded up) Cons: -the 4x4 system is quite an antiquated system. When engaged it is awesome, but very hard to get engaged unless the van is on level ground. You need to be going less than 5mph while moving before it can engage (no on-the-fly engaging really). Once engaged this is awesome and we even took this off roading to one of our favorite hikes. It made it through some incredible ruts and washouts that I was not expecting. -the brakes squeal (our 2012 model had the same issue). It is intermittent and not terrible, but still annoying. -only one intermittent setting for the wipers which is just dumb. -there are some rattles as we go down our dirt road. It sounds like a cargo van at times on our dirt road, but still much better than the Chevy did. -radio and sound quality are so-so. Better than the 2012 model. -a very sensitive traction control system. Trying to go through deep snow the van's computer wants to apply the brakes to avoid even the slightest wiggle from the rear end. I want to keep up my speed and maintain forward progress and have to fight the van to go in deep snow sometimes. Now with 4x4 this is much better, and not really an issue any more unless I leave the van in 2wd. Even when turning off traction control if there is rear slippage it will automatically re-engage. This is horribly annoying. -no automatic headlights -I still cannot remove the last row of seating, which is the one you would want to remove the most. The first 2 rows of passenger seating is easily removable with 2 people. The seats are heavy, but they come out through the large slider door well. -we have had intermittent issues of the slider door mechanism freezing in severe cold here in Michigan. It is easy to correct, but it seems like that could be improved. -dealerships are often far away unless you live in a city. The nearest dealerships to us are 1-2.5 hrs away. Update 4/2018: we had failure of the second auxiliary heater and won’t be replacing that as it is no longer under warranty. We have had 2 check engine codes that were due to faulty sensors and repaired under warranty in the past 4 months. We still love this van. I wish they had a 15 passenger version of a sprinter 4x4! 10/2020 Great van given all options. Weakness is still reliability. 87k miles 04/2023. 113k miles. Beware, this thing is extremely expensive to maintain. Parts are extremely costly. Just had to do the wheel bearing knuckles on the front end and parts were $1050 each and to be ordered from Mercedes. Had to replace a hub for the wheels since they use the horrible European mounting for tires. A lug snapped in the hub and a new hub is $1300, just for the part! The van is great when functioning properly, but plan on a huge price tag to maintain.

I own a highend transportation business and have a large variety of vehicles from Escalades to big Diesel buses and keep my vehicles inside and go over and beyond with maintenance. I don't have enough time to tell you all the problems with my Sprinter you would be reading for two days. this week I spent 2,800 on exhaust filters and sensors drove it 22 miles took it back and spent 750 for another sensor drove it another 30 miles engine light came on again and still at shop.Do not buy one of there vans I don't care how good a deal you think it is. And remember iam just telling you the problems for one week. If you need something the size of a Sprinter go by a Ford Transit much better vehicle. Oh and on the Sprinter Mercedes says they have the best resale value my ass go try and sell one been trying to sell mine and can't even get to a car lot before the engine light comes on.

vehicle will not operate in any city ,urban , metro environment . DPF will not re-gen and re-gen failier's dumps diesel into crankcase to mix w/ motor oil. My sprinter 2015 after 18000 miles never needed a drop of replacement oil (burn-off) in fact my engine had 17 gallons of fuel mixed with oil , before m/b bought it back 11/17/2016 lemon law case # 2016-0378/stp florida court . Every 600 miles or so high oil level lite and buzzers come on and you have to drain fuel/oil mix 2 or 3 quarts and then go another 600 or so . 47 day's of loaner cars then said it was my city driving was the problem . State of fla. asked m/b lawers how could they sell a vehicle to anyone that doesn't live in Montana , cause that's the only place this could possibly work ! this whole DPF system is junk

7 (& counting) weeks out of service in 2019

I bought this vehicle in April 2015 from an Indiana based converters of mobile grooming vans. (They are, justifiably so, held in high regard in my profession). I was in a horrible accident & my original conversion 2013 Ford 350 Econoline was totaled. At that time, there were only 3 chassis to chose from & only one diesel option: the 2015 MB Sprinter 3500. I put $63,000 down. & decided, rather than waiting an additional 3 weeks on top of the 3 months it took for insurance to figure everything out, to have one fabricated for me, I’d buy one another groomer ended up not getting because her financing fell through. I was super stoked to have a end new Benz! Even if it was a lowly work vehicle, I knew the curb appeal, the streamlined elegance (compared to the top heavy or lumbering Ford models), & me being the only Mobiler in a VERY large, densely populated area with a MB would exponentially increase my bona fides & service fees. I was so proud of “Martha”. Folks at gas stations would comment on what a nice van I had, many asked to have a peek inside. Then, at little under 2 years & 26K miles, the nightmare began: check engine light proceeding it refusing to upshift past 2nd gear. Rinse & repeat 5times in a little over a year only add sudden, unexpected loss of power (without the initial shifting problem). Such fun times to be had climbing up steep, long bridges bristling with semis & lost tourists, when the van just loses power & the only thing standing on the accelerator to try to get it to “snap out of it” does, is help you see further down the road. The code said Throttle Actuator stuck. The 4th time I was a mere 10 minutes away from dealership who’d just fixed it for the 3rd time, when it started malfunctioning again. That 4th time, I hired a lemon law attorney & was advised that that MB were notorious for being especially douchy about taking responsibility for their garbage vehicles. And they were. They “declined to negotiate a settlement” according to the LL attorney. Time #5 (mid January 2019) was literally 2 days after I got word MB refused. Some muckity muck was finally yanked out of the ivory towers, & it was apparently found to be a the common problem of the exhaust gunking up & clogging & not burning off. ⭐️I remember the lead mechanic telling me, on time #4 that if the throttle actuator issue wasn’t resolved, I’d need a whole new transmission. Total time down from this issue: easily 30 days with the last time being termed indefinite but ended up being 15. Remember this van is THE mobile component & sole hauler of the 68 sqft salon conversion including an Onan diesel 8000 generator, 4 horsepower velocity dryer, AC, 70 gal fresh water tank. No van no work August, 2019 found me unable to unlock the double doors which are the only way to access genny, inverter batteries, shore power switch, shore power cable, all fuses @ plumbing. Rendering the van useless once the genny popped a fuse (salon AC does it). Dealership didn’t have a van loaner for me & refused a civilian loaner. 1 week off the road burns up the last of my nest egg. I take it to another dealership: 90 miles round trip, $80 on fuel & tolls, 6 hours driving, three failed attempts at fixing the cab AC & actually making the locks worse, I take it to the regular place. Note: it used to take one button press to actuate key fob now it’s 3...or 4... or 5 Almost 3 weeks out of service $6K+ lost revenue December 2019: whining sound that grew louder from engine, transmission getting squirrellyer by the mile. The worst was when I was taking a left, cutting across 4 lanes of traffic & was almost across the first lane, the thing just refused to accelerate & the 3 lanes, with 3 cars I had had ample time to get across, were barreling down on me , so I threw it into reverse, my dogs slamming into dash and wind shield, to avoid being t boned by thrice over. It had trouble upshifting from 2 to 3 slipping, or RPM’s would go very high before it’d change, twice heard a thunk as I went from P to R: Needs new transmission & a torque something or other. As of this writing, been in since Monday December 16, 2019. Note: It was on the brink of needing one from throttle actuator malfunctioning almost exactly a year before. I’ve lost tens of thousands in revenue. I’ve lost dozens of CLIENTS. I’m not a delicate flower by any means but it really does take a toll on me to wonder/worry almost every shift if the van is going to lose power at another dicey inopportune time in my areas notoriously fast driving bad traffic. MB; I’ve spent my entire savings, & borrowed money to pay recurring overhead costs INCLUDING the VAN PAYMENT, I am broke & struggling because you think it’s perfectly acceptable for me to drive this lurching, 6 wheeled hell wagon. Y’all got your $, right? I’ve made it a mission to tell everyone to NEVER buy a MB. Oh, I’m a Single Mom. So thanks for zero vacations & drained college fund

The 2015 gets amazing fuel economy in the 4 cyl 7 spd transmission 144" WB, Hight Top, 2500, Passenger Van version. The road noise is much improved over the older model. The seating arrangement is smart. I take out the last 2 rows of seats as needed to haul equipment. It is a very versatile and impressive looking/ performing van. The best in it's calls, in my opinion. I checked all the competitors before buying this one and was not impressed with the competitors, look, performance or cheap looking designs. Get great fuel economy and enjoy your quality ride.

I have to change the EGR valve every 2 to 3 weeks. I have to clean it then it goes bad and I have to order another one. I paid $20,000 for the van. I have put over 8000 in it to keep it running never will Mercedez vehicle you can't even get parts you have to order the parts so if you're broke down inside the road, don't go to an auto parts store because they're not gonna have the parts for you. You have to order them and then 3 to 4 days later maybe a week you'll get the parts and then you have to work on it because every time you talk to the Mercedes dealership there 2 to 3 months out also they're saying that the 2013 Mercedes-Benz they will not work on it because it is too old of a model of van to work on, so please don't make a mistake like I did and buy Mercedes sprinter van the worst vehicle I have ever known. I have to work on it constantly.

I own a 2015 Mercedes Benz 2500 Sprinter turbo 4 purchased NEW. I do not have a car just my Sprinter. I have put no money into it since I purchased it other than maintenance. Mercedes has done upgrades and backed their product. I am referred to as the Lady with the Beautiful Van. I am selling mine and buying a new one. I take care of my van and my husband and I are the only drivers so we know how it is treated.

Best Rig our family has had

We bought our 2015 Freightliner Sprinter passenger van back in 2017 “used”, it sat unused in a warehouse for 2 years, still had plastic on the seats and the Marony sticker for $55,000 on the window. We have the 6 cylinder diesel, 144” with the highroof option. Ours is rear wheel drive, not the 4x4. Our family has a small side business, that has us dropping off a load of heavy boxes every month or two. This truck handles everything we throw at it and delivers amazing performance at near 20 mpg, or averaging an amazing 25 mpg on our last 3,000 mile road trip. It’s amazing that it carries my family and our boxes without compromising fuel mileage and still handles so well. Before I drove the Sprinter, Highroof Van I was afraid it was going to be tippy on the corners and horrible in the wind, after 100,000 miles of enjoyable driving I can say this rig handles better than anything in its class, even better than the SUV’s we’ve had. The side winds are handled w/ some amazing technology that kicks on when it’s needed to keep you in your lane, although it hasn’t kicked on more than 2 times in the last 100,000 miles. The cornering is also superb, Mercedes put their best steering in this rig. The van doesn’t feel tippy in the least and likely because it’s center of gravity is lower than it appears. There is also some great technology to help keep you right side up and very nimble. The seating position is superior to the Transit, which has you sitting lower, without the commanding view of the Sprinter. Our rig comes with the V6 diesel, which has 14 quarts of synthetic oil, requiring a 20,000 mile service interval. We found a mechanic in our area that services Sprinter delivery trucks, they do are far less expansive than the dealership. Some people have bad experiences with their Sprinters. These diesel rigs, as it explains in the owner’s manual are not meant to be driven solely as city rigs, it says no more than 300 continual (low speed) city miles, or it may in fact destroy the engine, also no long time idling. Some city miles are okay, as I drive my kid to school in it, travel to the store, but faster, longer periods of highway miles are periodically needed for the emissions to work correctly on these new diesels. My 2015 Volkswagen TDi has the same need. We had the emissions system updated for free, under the service bulletin, at no cost, about 6 months ago. This also extends the warranty period on many of the most costly parts. The rear seats are heavy and not the most consumer friendly to remove, but after practice I’ve learned how to remove any rear seat by myself, using an extended engine lift & alittle technique. The rear most seats also need a claw hammer to release the seats from the floor, see YouTube. It takes my just a few minutes to remove a couple seats. Our biggest, most annoying issue has been with the Bluetooth sometimes not working, outside of that we’ve been very fortunate to not have anything serious issues thus far. Assuming you have good techs, if you treat your Sprinter well, it will treat you well in return. So far, after 6 years and 100,000 miles we enjoy our Sprinter and we look forward to many more long road trips.

After buying this vehicle new off the dealer lot. after only 6 days on the road I experianced a complete power loss to the vechicle. was 200 mi from home. roadside assistance took 4hrs to approve me for 100% $$ towing back to my dealeer in Reading PA. They had the vehicle all day and still could not find the source of the problem..If they can not find the source of the problem do they expect me to take back the vehicle and wonder when and where it will happen again!..I think not. Will update as soon as I find out ..

Our 2015 Sprinter passenger van has been our family wagon for the last 7 years. We’ve accumulated 130,000 miles thus far and it’s been our best family rig thus far. We drive 20,000 miles every year, many on the freeway for vacations & appointments out of town. It’s been very low maintenance, requiring an oil change only every 20,000 miles, which is annually for us. The oil tests show that we could go twice that distance, but every year is fine for us. The Sprinter has proven handy for pulling our VW Golf behind, for its service appointments out of town. The Sprinter, w/ the V6 diesel has returned good mileage, as high as 25, but usually around 20 mph. It has been comfortable on the longer road trips. On the downside, the rear seats are heavy & require an engine lift to install & remove them. When installed, they occasionally rattle over bumps. They do not recline. On the positive side, these seats can be replaced w/ much better aftermarket seats that do recline and will work with the current floor anchor points, they just cost 💲. The Sprinter handles very well on our twisty highway roads and it has proven surprisingly sure footed even with strong gusty cross winds. Over all, we love it.
