Too much, too often
The qualifier. I have had almost everything, Cadillac, Jaguar XJL, Rolls Royce, Lincoln, BMW, Lexus and Infinity and several Mercedes - all the upper end models. This 2017 S 550 has to go into the shop too often and costs too much. Brakes and rotors, $2,400, windshield wipers $200, tires (9 of them) at $438 because the run flats bubble when you hit a bump. Engineers say it is because of Houston streets. I ask you, if you buy a $110,000 car in Houston, where do they expect you to drive it? They should designate different tires and solve the porblem. Left turn signal cornering light, $3,567.00, you have to replace the entire assembly. Steering wheel got stuck in the up and extended position. I felt like I was driving a Metro Bus until I got it in the shop. Satellite system went out and had to be replaced. Console retracting door gets stuck. It really goes on and on. Some of it covered under warranty and some of it not but you still have to take it in. I am stuck in a lease until March of 2020 and that will be the last Mercedes. Captain of Industry or Captain Dummy? I can afford it, but I just can't deal with it. Sometimes I think they count on us putting up with that nonsense. It is my fault for buying one, but never, I mean never again. Rolls Royce and Lexus do much better.
Back In The "High Life" Again!
This is a truly refined automobile. I traded in my 2017 BMW 740i for the 2018 S450. There is very little comparison to the two cars. The Mercedes is quick, smooth riding and handling, stays in a straight line with little driver input which was not the case with the BMW 7 Series. The vehicle corners precisely and does not handle like a 4500+ pound luxury sedan - but more like a 3800 pound vehicle. This car is, without doubt, the most beautiful, fun-to-drive and most comfortable luxury sedan I have every driven - and I have owned more than 40 luxury sedans in my lifetime. The pricing on this car is about $10,000 less than the S560 - mostly due to the V6 bi-turbo as opposed to a V8 bi-turbo. I drove both models and found the S450 to be a bit more nimble. Be prepared to surround yourself in the epitome of luxury, performance, audio, as a well as a myriad of driver safety features like adaptive cruise, adaptive lane departure, adaptive blind spot monitoring (which cause the car to remain in the lane if a car is detected on either side of you. Self-steering is precise as is the adaptive cruise. I'll update my review as I build up the miles. In summary, this is a luxury sports sedan while the BMW 7 series tends to be a more sporty handling vehicle. The new 9 speed transmission and driver-selected ride and handling options (Comfort, Sport, Economy) make the world of difference in this new S Class entry. Audio System is not to be believed - like listening to a live performance.

AMAZING LUXURY SEDAN 2018 S560
This is by far the finest luxury car I have ever driven. Read all the owner reviews. When Mercedes redesigned the S560 in 2015 they had to get it right to reclaim their status at the top of luxury cars. They did get it right and even owners of a Bentley and Rolls have told me it is superior to their sedans. It is perfection on wheels and the awesome technology wraps you in safety as well as comfort. The refined Distronic Plus allows you to sit back and relax and let the car drive itself for you on the highway. It has been upgraded from my 2015 and is far more refined on the highway tracking your lane exactly. You will not be disappointed in the car. It is truly amazing.

This has been a great car. Sexy curves, top of the line everything, handles tight but rides very smoothly. I do give massages to some passengers, or one for myself after a tough day! This is a benchmark in the industry for sure.

UPDATE ON MY S 450 SEDAN
My S450 now has 6350 miles on the odometer. It continues to be problem free - never have had to return it to dealership for any adjustments or problems. Fuel economy continues to excellent - 31.5 mpg highway - 21 mpg around town - 23.5 mpg average. The twin turbo V6 engine continues to awe me because I still can’t believe the power and acceleration in this car. It still rides and handles the same as the day I picked up the car new. I really can not recommend any changes to this vehicle - it is smooth riding, handles effortlessly, is comfortable to sit in any seat (front or back), the audio is crisp and clear like sitting in a music hall, 360 degree camera shows your car’s position relative to the surroundings, interior is exquisite and functional for driver and passengers, and the adaptive cruise control is a treasure when driving on the interstate for an extended period of time. I’ve tried the self-parking feature but prefer not using it since I never have to parallel park. Technology is impressive - but I caution those interested in this vehicle that the learning curve for the myriad of technologies and their use is long. I would estimate that it took me 3 months of driving it to master most of them. Every so often I come across something new that I did not know existed. I guess it kind of awes you as you learn more and more about this car’s capabilities. This one’s a KEEPER! I LOVE THIS CAR!

HATE THIS CAR, HATE DEALER SUPPORT EVEN MORE
I bought this car new and since the day I drove it off the lot it's knocked in the front left suspension and no one will attempt to repair it. They tell me they "can't just throw parts in the car" without replicating the sound. Well a technician heard the noises and said it's not the tires. Two dealerships recommended I change the tires to All-Season tires which I do not want on my high performance car. So they think I should be the one to "just throw parts on the car" to see if it fixed the problem? Are you kidding me?! Look, if they just made a reasonable attempt to resolve it, I'd be OK. But it's sad that I spent $170,000 on this thing with prepaid service and taxes, and they won't even attempt to solve it by changing out a shock absorber, bushing, or strut; even when the tech heard the noise and said "yep, it's not the tires". HATE IT! Probably going back to BMW. I have to be honest, if I wasn't having this issue for over a year now, the rating may be a 4 or maybe even a 5.

Buyer Beware!!!! Defective Car - Bad Care
I bought this car new in September from a Sonic dealership. Gorgeous car. By the first week of October, it was in the shop. The convertible top started to raise, then froze with the boot open. The top could not be raised or lowered. After 8 days, service manager of dealer called to explain that it could not be repaired, that this was a problem with 2018 S class cabriolets. He says that production has been canceled and that MBUSA had just bought about 10-12 of the cars back. I asked about a loaner and was promised one -- three separate times. I never got one -- apparently they know this will be a long process. Service manager advised that Mercedes wanted me in any other car ... just not an S class cabriolet. I researched and made a selection. At one point, my sales person even sent me a link to the proposed replacement car, at another Sonic dealer. After a couple of weeks, I called and asked where the car was. Difficulty dealer trading for it, I was told. Furious, I called MBUSA, who denied knowing anything. Then my dealer sales person texted that MBUSA was going to buy me out, and it would be an "ordeal." MBUSA denied when I called, said they had issues with the dealer, and said they would be back in touch. Days go by before I hear back (despite a promise to call me the next day). Eventually, I am told that they are recommending a buyout, but it will be 2-4 weeks for regional "approval." Fortunately, after pitching a fit, I hear the next day that I will be bought out, but it the process will be turned over to a third party logistics firm to handle. I got all documents to them within 24 hours, and have yet to hear anything; they advised process will take up to 4 weeks. In sum, I bought a new Mercedes flagship vehicle; it was operated over about 2.5 weeks before it ceased to function; my dealer tells me it's defective and promises a new, slightly more expensive and different car (but never responds to requests for a loaner); I call MBUSA; dealer and manufacturer point fingers at each other; eventually I am promised a buyout (MBUSA never answers directly the question of whether this is a recurring defect for S class cabriolets); and I am still waiting on my money, paying insurance since I still own the car, more than 5 weeks after the car left my possession and almost four weeks to the day I was promised a new car. I've owned a Porsche, a Range Rovers, BMW M3, 2 Audi A8Ls, an early Infinity Q45, and two Hondas in my life. All great cars. This has been the single worst customer experience for any product, let alone the most expensive car I've ever bought.

2017 Mercedes S550 Coupe
Interesting car category. It is not just an S Class Mercedes 550 Sedan with 2 fewer doors on it. It is very sporty, easy to drive, easy to enter and exit, and it is very sporty. I told my wife i was purchasing it and she was disinterested and negative that we needed it but when it arrived, she claimed it instantly. Not a high production car and you will not see it often. Could be classified as a dysfunctional car but we/my wife enjoys it.

CHEAP MADE GERMAN CAR
After 22,000 miles, engine oil leak , software problem for a/c, stereo, and navigation system. The engine compartment is so tight,it generate so much heat which cause plastic, electric, and rubber parts to fall apart faster. This will also cause much, much, much more labor cost for consumers. The top plastic engine cover cracked when trying to remove it. The over head display for mph and direction was blur. The Cadillac is much better. To use air condition, it not simple. To turn off the fan, you have to set it at one . There is no zero like standard . The stereo sound system is horrible. Cadillac, Aston Martin, Landrover, Lexus, and Jaguar sound much better, it has a 2 second turbo lag when floor it. The expensive tires last about 11,000 miles with normal driving. That is so sad.

Nice car for an old geezer
My S550 convertible's transmission blew up (literally) on the way home from the dealer. With a new tranny, I drove 48000 miles and it is still running. Until recently nothing went wrong. Now the CD player (which I have never used) needed to be replaced and the remote trunk switch on the driver's door fell apart. The car is still under warranty but I have a bad premonition that the thing will get expensive. It is a shame since it is a powerful, comfortable and very impressive car and comparables (Bentley Continental?) cost much more. The depreciation is enormous - I paid 150,000 for it August 2016 and my dealer keeps on offering a current model with a trade in offer for 65,000 dollars. Update May 2021 - COVID sure put an end to cross country jaunts. I only have 55,000 miles on the car. It is running very well, no problems to report. Since it will not be produced after this year, I will hang on to it for the near future. One good thing about it is that Mercedes has a way of providing parts and service for their cars - of course they cost an arm and a leg, but still cheaper than one of the replacement models. November 2022 - l have just arrived at 69000 miles. New tires were needed, the second set - Michelin Pilot AS3 - lasted 30000. In the meantime, we took the car for a new cross country trip. I am doing the oil/filter changes myself but an air filter and new spark plugs are overdue and will be fiendishly expensive. Blowing the fuses for the electric outlets (my fault) was educational. One has to literally take apart the entire trunk to get to the fuse box (or the battery). Price of three fuses - 6 dollars. Labor at Mercedes would probably have been 4-500 dollars. Oh well. Otherwise literally nothing went wrong in 6 years. Trade in value? Probably $45,000 - an expensive indulgence, a Kia Rio would have been cheaper to have.

Best car I have ever owned
Twin turbocharged 6 cylinder engine develops 382 horsepower. This car has plenty of pickup for driving in city or on highway. I consistently hit 32 MPG on highway, using the self adjusting cruise and lane retention features. The technology is amazing. It virtually drives itself, maintaining in lane, adjusting speed to traffic, and self parking. The finishes on the exterior and interior are excellent. After driving several other Luxury brands, I will have a tough time leaving my Mercedes.

The best sedan driver I've ever owned
I just read a few reviews of a 2017 MB S550 sedan and had lot's of troubles. I bought 8 months ago a 17 MB S550 4-Matic metallic brown exterior with the new 9-speed transmission and it's a great looking and driving vehicle. Beautiful across the board. I've never driven a smoother full loaded sedan EVER. My friend has a 2017 RR Ghost we exchanged cars for an hour and he admitted my car was equally as good as the ghost. I bought the car with 29K and 14 months on the warrantee and considerably less than half of the MSRP. You just can't beat it..

No happe with S550e
I have been driving Mercedes most of my life even when I was young growing up my father always had a Mercedes. I love the car and the comfort level is great but I have never been so disappointed with a Mercedes in all my life as much as this time. I live in a gated very nice Golf community and most of my trips to San Francisco mostly no dirt or country driving, in 6 months the windshield crack twice the first time around I took it to the dealer and the cost was about $3000 now less than six months and the windshield crack again not sure if I want to spend another 3000 at the same time hate to drive such a nice beautiful almost new car with the window cracked, I took it to the dealer hoping they will honor some kind of warranty but no luck, Also the Car went totally dead on my few time not sure whey!!! I also felt it has been an issue with the charge because when I charged it totally to 100% and within 3-5 miles it the charge is down to 20% according to the manual I should drive a little longer in 100% charge. Like I said I always drove owned and leased Mercedes but never had to deal with so many issues as much as this one it is either a lemon or Mercedes need to invest a little more time in creating the electric cars with the same high standard and quality they usually offer and deliver to customers. Thank you, ae

Handles better than our 2008 E550
Expensive, but superior ride, handling, quiet, and very responsive, faster and better MPG than our 08 E550! Many features, finding out more as we drive the car. We were blown away with the self setting clock, the previous Mercedes clocks, tedious when changing time. A truly superior automobile, although I do miss the bullet proof paint of old, the new paint being water based is not as durable.

Not a great car for the money.
I Purchased a 2017 S 550 after driving it for one day I realize there was something wrong with the ride I took it back four times and they still couldn't fix it. They were saying the tires were capped and that they replace them but they didn't and then I finally got him to replace the tires and it turned out that the rims were bad. Even after they are done room replacement supposedly it still didn't ride properly. I told them I didn't want to car. After going back-and-forth with the regional manager we agreed that they would give me the price that I paid for the car and then I bought a new one 2018 was supposedly going to have 1200 miles on it but when I got the car and ended up having 2800 miles on it. Having dealt with this for the last three weeks I was wanting to have it be done so I took the car. Unfortunately was having the same problem with the runflat tires and the car ran terribly they replaced all the tires on the car and it was better but the front right seat what is vibrating so I took it to a local tire person and had them high speed balance the tires and they told me that the rim on the front right tire was bent so I took it back to the dealer again and they repaired it not replaced repaired. Anyway finally have the car still does not ride well on the highway I think part of is it to do with the runflat tires. I had a 2012 the car road like a dream. I think Mercedes need to do something about the runflat tires. I'm just about ready to try to get up the energy again to go back and have them try to fix it again. Not what I'm looking to do with my time when you spend $115,000 on a car. Beware of the runflat tires I would not buy another car from Mercedes my next car will not be a Mercedes

Only for the Few
This is an older man's super car -- 577 hp, torque to spare, and incomparable comfort. I've always thought that the engineers who designed this top of the line AMG had too much time on their hands, because from the aroma sensor (and control) to the acitvely hip-hugging seats, there are amenties that are almost beyond imagining. Power and comfort, this Benz has it all.

First car I really fell in love with it
I love that the car the sporty and luxurious at the same time. I've been very happy almost every second the entire time I've had the car. It handles like a dream. I like this over the M3, the Porsche 911, and Panamera. I would love that my next car have all the handling capabilities and speed that come in this luxurious sporty car.

Overall it is a great luxury sedan. It handles very good on the road. Eco start/stop feature is annoying and creates uncomfortable driving specifically during frequent stops. It should not be used during comfort driving.

S550 Review
Loved the car as it was my dream car. If it's one complaint it's that for a 100K car certain things like panoramic sunroof, heated steering wheel, ventilated and heated seats shouldn't be options, but standard. I loved the way it drove, handles great, comfortable seats and a joy to ride.
sedan one
Fine car. I was hit by a drunk driver at 2:30pm! Significant damage, but I was unharmed. I am unsure what might have happened if I had a smaller car. I like the V-8 engine. I suspect the US government will take that option away from me when the time comes for a new car.
I'm in love ....still
This car is just the best....runs like a top and rides like a dream. I want a new car but can't make myself sell this baby. They don't make them anymore......:(.
