Mercedes is not of the quality it used to be

For the last 35 years I always had at least one Benz in the garage. Currently have a 2007 550s and a 2012 350ML. Bought both new/first owner. 550 s -19,000 miles - Air Condition not working. 350ML - 6,000 Miles - electronics defect: give wrong error messages and no error messages. Now, the ML is at the shop because the engine may have to be replaced. Local dealer in Palm Beach says MBUSA asked them to perform "more tests to identify the problem". (Car is in the shop already 3 days.) Two issues here: (1) MB now sells cars that do not work properly, even after short use. (2) How MBUSA deals with the problem: They make little/no effort to make things right. This is no longer a good make.

Worst car I've owned; my Hyundai was more reliable

My 2012 ML350 is a major disappointment with numerous technological issues. it has been to the dealer for repairs more than any car i have ever owned. I am again driving a loaner for the 8th time in a year and a half. I have recorded videos of the malfunctions, dealer has duplicated the issues on occasion, and it is still not fixed. I contacted MBUSA for assistance and resolution and they did nothing except say 'take it to the dealer'. I cannot believe that mercedes would have such poor response and pathetic customer service. After years of contemplating purchasing a luxury vehicle I am hugely disappointed that my first experience is so negative. I should have the reliability I paid for.

I bought this from a reliable acquaintance at 1+ year old, at about 17K miles and now am at almost 50K. So far in two years have spent about 4k in repairs and service and had it in dealership for almost 3 weeks under warranty for a major repair, thank goodness it was still under warranty. Concerned I inquired about an "extended" warranty and come to find out it will be 6K which includes a surcharge from Mercedes because it was not originally purchased for the extended period. Had the car appraised and find it is with less than half of the original cost and they now have discontinued the ML series. The fit and finish of the interior is lovely, the boxy exterior is a bit dated. Overall liked the safety of the car but too expensive to service and seems to be a money pit. I had hoped to drive it 100K but now having second thoughts.

This is a Great SUV-It is NOT an E-Class!

Leased this vehicle for my wife. I drive a BMW 550i which I much prefer. I always laugh reading other reviews on here and people complain it isn't sporty. It is an SUV, of course it is not sporty! The ride is phenominal and at 80 mph you can whisper to someone in the backseat. Great fuel economy, my wife only drives around town and gets 21 mpg! Good acceleration, just no low end torque, but come on, it is way fast enough for 99.9% of the people buying it. Fit and finish is amazing, nice materials. One year later, my wife still can't figure out the Navigation, so is it confusing or is it her (hmm). Steering is too light for my tastes. Overall, a great vehicle-it is what it is!

My 2012 ML350 ,the car only has 50,560 miles ,more than 6 check in at the service department and today without the Mercedes Benz warranty in force (more than 50,000 miles)the comand system stop working,so by defect the back up camera is not working as well,no radio,no navigator and many more issues. The right side mirror is not folding (3rd time that do that)and I have problems with the power lifgate as well(stops in the middle of the opening). I don't remember a day not regreting for the ML350 purchase. Before this car I owned a Ford Edge that never went to a mechanic in the 3 years that I owned it. They didn't call me from the dealer yet,but for sure the bill will be gigantic.

Love my 2012 ml350 diesel but it's a money pit

I've loved driving my ml350 diesel but every time I take it in for an oil change it's comes out with a massive repair bill. The check engine light is always going off and it's always a minimum of $2,000. I've had to replace the Oil cooler for $5,000 that was a recall on several years but not mine, blue tech cooler $2,000, motor mount $2,000 and on and on. It's like a sick dog you love and have already spent so much money on that you keep sinking more in hoping this will fix it. I'll probably never buy another Mercedes because this one has left me with a bad experience.

Not E-Class but Better

The 2012 ML350 doesn't ride or drive like an E-Class (I've had two) but neither does anything else either. The ML350 is a great freeway car though. It is roomy, comfortable, and drives like a dream. It has excellent seats and it is quiet inside. In a recent non-freeway trip of several hundred miles, my ML350 BlueTec averaged 30.9 mpg for the entire trip. That mileage will get the vehicle nearly 700 miles between fueling stops! This was my 4th Mercedes and 3rd diesel. Overall, it is, by far, the best car that I have ever owned. After having driven 1000s of Intetstate miles, I absolutely love this car! It is a true blue highway cruiser. In fact, I’ve driven it from central Illinois to Detroit several times now and still had a 1/4 tank of fuel in the tank when I got there.

Traded in the GLK350 for this ML350. Although the GLK was a great vehicle, the ML affords me more space and is much more comfortable. Can't say enough about this vehicle and recommend it to anyone who wants a comfortable SUV. For those who worry about fuel consumption, averaging 24 MPG in mixed driving and expect to do better. Very quite inside and very classy inside and out. Try it, you'll like it!!

I have had my 2012 ML 350 Bluetec without any issues for over a year near 20k miles. It has proven to be a tried/true work horse and I have no regrets. I have averaged an indicated 23 mpg during this period and on long Hwy seen about 29mpg driving a constant 80mph. Most of my commute is stop/go city w/limited fwy and it still gets 23-25 if you don't bury your foot to feel that strong 455ft lbs of torque. I'm truly convinced that this is a great overall vehicle and am glad I chose this powertrain. FYI think about it..for about $1500 extra at purchase it holds its value advantage of $5000-9000 or more than the gas engine over the same ownership period! IMHO that is money in the bank .

Have had the car for a few weeks now.Bluetec. Getting 32 miles per gallon roughly. Beautiful interior. Love the lane change add. It is a definite must have. Heated seats are wonderful, legroom in the back seat is roomy, back seats recline a bit. Trunk space big enough for 2 sets of golf clubs and suitcases. I have no complaints so far.

Bought the ML after testdriving X5, Lexus 470, LR4, and QX56..were actually on way to buy QX when we decided to just look at the ML. Test drove the 350 and took it home to see how it would accommodate our family roadtrip needs..perfect. When we ordered, only the 350 was available but was able to upgrade to the 550 a day later. It's awesome..a real sleeper. Steering not nearly as precise as the X5 but better than the QX. The safety features by far exceed any of the other SUVs we tested. Exterior not very sexy..would prefer a Cayenne or X5 or even the QX but for a family tourer with performance the ML550 is hard to beat! And we get 19.5 mpg average.

This is a big SUV but very light on its feet. Good visibility, good steering and a great turning radius are all part of equation. The backup camera is excellent, the seating position very good, the performance as good with this V6 as my XC90 Volvo was with its V8 with about 20% better MPG. Also, very quiet at speed. The knock on Mercedes was a premium package that wasn't premium; but the premium one package now includes what most people want (except for HID headlights; shame, Mercedes!), and that makes it value for money. Ten thousand less than an X5. Navigation works well, but the scream you get when you press the Embrace button will make ear drums bleed. What's up with that?

This will be my third ML. Having owned 2002 and 2004 versions, I was very disappointed with the second generation ML and strayed from the MB brand for a few years. Now comes the 2012 which is the third generation and it totally blows away all previous models.

I got this Mercedes SUV diesel Bluetec 2012 new from dealership. from day one I had problem. I bought this around 55 K and it blue book value after 5 years is around 22K. car was treated right but had issue with condensation of front shield make it dangerous to drive in cold weather, dealer didn't do anything about it. . recently the sign for coolant was appeared , add antifreeze . My wife along with my daughter was driving it and all of the sudden engine stalled, had to call 911 to get protection because of location of the car on the side of the road. car was towed to dealership and the say the engine was seized and need new engine with price tag of 27 K and 2 K labor .Interesting enough no explanation why did it happen. some research showed these cars have issue with oil cooler and leakage can happen . the problem is sign of coolant doesn't tell you what kind of coolant. car this expensive should warn you better. I never buy Mercedes again.

Engine noise on warm startup

Hi , I read many reviews or complaints regarding the famous engine noise or knocking that lasts 2-3 seconds only on warm start up after the car has sat for 1-2 hours but not completely cooled yet.I believe I have the explanation for it since I had the same thing in my old 1991 E260, simply the problem is that mercedes uses an oil pressurized system for the variable camshaft timing of the valves, there is different setups for cold or warm start guided by the car computer, in cold start system is fully drained but pressure not needed in that system for cold cam timing, in immediate restart system still fully oil pressurized so no noise, in between u hear the noise, no effect on engine life :-)

We replaced our 08 ML. The fit and finish are as expected, the performance for a 6cyl is good, but...I have a 2011 Jeep Compass (I won't spend the money. It's a car, it's not a fashion statement) and the radio will quickly connect my phone through bluetooth for complete hands free. It downloads my contacts, it has voice recognition, it streams music from my micro sd card, and it streams music from my internet connections(pandora, slacker etc). The Merc won't do it. My wifes phone is the same as mine. Now while the average user may not appreciate this. When you pay 3x for a vehicle you don't expect customer service or the factory to make excuses for why it doesn't work. Disappointed for sure.

I purchased my 2012 ML350 Bluetec back in November 2011. After 2 weeks, the first problem I had was car was pulling to the right at highway speed. After left it with the dealer for about a week, they finally realized that it was bad tire which took them a few more days to get replacement. Next, I was having problem with car loosing power when driving over a long distance or for a few hours. There is no error message on the dashboard nor that the dealer can replicate. Anyway, I start documenting them on video using my phone. They finally acknowledge but still no solution for it. Along with the car loosing power, I was getting error with PRE-SAFE Inoperative error and Ad-Blue low level

Just to share my story. I purchased a ML350 SUV in 2013. Nice looking vehicle and I was ready to enjoy. Well, here is what happened. First, I had a problem with the drivers seat. They fixed that after two tries. I did hate to complain, but the vehicle cost a lot of money. Second problem. I have a noise somewhere near the steering wheel and tires. It sound like a screw was loose and the vehicle could come apart, or at least the front part. I took the vehicle in, the man said it was ok. NO. NO. I went back a week later and they kept it for 12 days. They say it was a coupling near the steering whell and the bushing. Well, they fixed that too. Still, the problem is not completely fixed.

Picked up the ML350 about 2 weeks ago. Compared the FX35, Q5, GLK350, SRX, X3 and the Evoque. The ML one out based on upon an overall quality. The ML is not the sportiest, but it handles well, accelerates well and gets competitive gas mileage. It is very luxurious with high quality materials and style. It is now similar to a mercedes E class sedan in style and luxury. Mercedes, Cadillac and Infiniti are much more competitive with their lease deals than Audi, Land Rover and Audi. If you are looking for a sportier SUV the Infiniti FX35 is a good value and finished 2nd in our search.

I had a Lexus 2010 RX 350 which was a great auto. Have no complaints about that car. My Benz though is much more comfortable, very, very quiet and has good performance. The Lexus comes with more features for the same price which I lament on my Benz. I have had my Benz for 1 1/2 years now and I still love it. Best car I have ever owned. Not too happy with the gas mileage but then I knew that going in. The interior controls are just where I want them. Love the easy gear shift on the column. No problems at all and Mercedes Benz of Fresno treats me like a VIP whenever I go to their business. I highly recommend the ML 350.

I leased the 2012 ML 350 about 2 wks ago. This is my first MB. So far, it's been in the shop twice at 2 different dealerships. After several days of driving, I noticed the vehicle would start to shake when I reached 65mph. Also, the windshield wipers chatter horribly and are very loud. So I took it in. They worked on it for an entire day. The same problems persisted. I took it back in a week later to another dealership. The shaking seems to be much better, however, the wipers are chattering worse than ever as I discovered today during a rainstorm. Yes, the vehicle is beautifully appointed and looks great etc. but it is very irritating to be in and out of the shop with a brand new vehicle.

In 2012 I researched purchasing either a Mercedes or Acura. I had exceptionally great service with Acura in the past but chose Mercedes and assumed their service would meet the same expectation. I was wrong. I ordered running boards over a year ago and still have not received them. I now had to take my rubber drivers side mat into dealership due to a recall and am told not to hold my breath for the new one. Mercedes called me to say I would be put on their "preferred" list...but still have not received these items and they could not give me an eta on them. Waiting over a year for parts is insane. I wonder what the future will hold when I need service/parts ordered. I looked at Acura today..

Love the looks, mileage and ride of the ML blueTec, but having to drive for a mile or so, every morning since I drove it off the lot, misfiring is getting old! Upon returning it to the dealer I was told that there were numerous open complaints on the issue, but a fix was not yet available. They hope to have a fix out soon.....$57k and I need to drive a misfiring Mercedes through my neighborhood every morning.....I guess that will teach me for buying the first year of a new body style. So now I wait.......or do I start the lemon law process...time will tell...

I recently have purchased this nu ML-Bluetech after having 3 E-class benz's 2-350s 1-550 models 2007,2008 and 2010. My plan was to keep my 2010 E-550 for another year or so but during the past few months I had been looking at Suv's:Ford Edge,Jeep Grand Cherokee,BMW X5 Diesel and VW Toureag TDI/Audi Q7 TDI. Having shopped these others 1st, I took a chance a drove the 2012 Bluetech and I was presently surprised. The upgraded new interior and added torque really raised the bar against the others I was considering. Edge my ford touch?..Jeep Great Drive not efficient, X5 Sporty but too pricey w/options desired near 70k and VW Group Great overall but MB has a long/proven diesel history undisputed.

Driving this SUV feels very robust and classy. The side lane assist has already saved me from several minor accidents. MB did a great internal and external design for this vehicle, much better than previous versions. Space in the back seats is great, my kids enjoy that feature. If you are looking for a high-end mid-size SUV, this is the best choice, beyond the X5, Acura, Cayenne or any other.

This is my 4th Mercedes and I was excited to upgrade to the new 2012 ML350 in January 2012 with the new body design when it first came out, but with ONLY 16K in mileage, I have to get NEW Brakes! Really?!?! In my GLK350, SL500 or my C class, or even with my Hyundai Tuscon, I never had to get my done until after 30K because they would last that long. SO I'm shocked. I only drive 4 miles to work and I'm just really pissed off. They said my back breaks was all the way down to the sensors. But at 16K mileage?!?! I didn't have that issue with my Z4 BMW and I'm thinking of going back to a BMW with their 5 yr maintenance plan. Has anyone else had an EARLY brake issue??

My last car was a Cayenne V6. I like the new ML much better. I can't say enough about every aspect of the car and the great dealer, MB of North Olmstead Ohio. You should be willing to travel a long long way to do business with these guys.

Recently leased the new 2012 ML 350 and what a disappointment. Interior fit and finish not up to usual Mercedes quality and required replacement parts.....on a new Mercedes. Ride is terrible. There is a problem with the rear suspension that makes this car bounce like crazy over any little road bump and the dealer claims there is nothing wrong. The precise handling I have read about in other reviews of this car is completely lacking in the car I got......my Honda minivan drove with less effort!!! I am so sorry I got this car and especially at over $700 per month for the lease. The BMW X5 drives much, much better. Maybe I should just go back to my Honda!!!

Good Car But Sleazy Dealer at Barrier of Bellevue

Handling is firm and precise. Acceleration is good. It feels as nimble as a mid-size sedan. In fact it can make much tighter U-turns than my old Lexus ES300. It is also very smooth and quiet. One downside is the fuel efficiency is not nearly as good as it's labeled. I could get only 12 mpg in city and 17 mpg in city-highway combined. For potential buyers in the Seattle area, be aware of the dealer at Barrier of Bellevue. During my price negotiation the dealer quoted the Mercedes Conquest rebate amount for October as $1,000 while the actual amount was $2,000. He also hid the fact that people from my company would automatically qualify for a fleet discount of $3,000 from MSRP.

Traded in 2010 Infiniti FX35 for 2012 Mercedes ML350

Miss my FX35! After Infiniti, ML350 feels like a big bulky bus - plush and comfortable yet a bus. There is nothing fun or sporty about driving it. The engine is powerful and the car drives well but it's just lacking that sporty feel you get from driving FX. On the plus side, visibility is a lot better than FX and the cabin gets a lot more light. On the down side, my 4 yo keeps pointing at Honda minivans and yelling - look, that's Mommy's new car. The backup camera view is fuzzy compared to Infiniti - don't know if mine is defective or that's how it is. Not too thrilled with my purchase so far but hope it will grow on me.

Pros: *Very nice fit and finish for the exterior and especially, the interior. *Smooth ride, quiet cabin, no vibration noises. *Excellent Harmon Kardon sound system *Good driver all around visibility. *Good head room and leg room. *High resolution command or navigation screen that maintains readability even with sunlight shining directly on it. *Quick and effective blindspot warning system(a must have option) *Bluetooth connectivity is easy for the use of phone and audio devices. Cons. *Average performance: engine works hard for acceleration, heavy car feel during quick maneuver. *Time consuming use of the MB command controller(address entry for navigation)

Solid and Competent SUV: 2012 MB ML350 4MATIC

This is my first MB SUV, purchased in 1/16 with 27,000 miles from a non-MB dealer. It has the 302 hp gas engine, 4MATIC all wheel drive, Premium 1 package, and I replaced the original Continentals with Michelin Premier LTX’s in 8/16. I also added splash guards and a class three receiver hitch and electrics so I may tow a small boat and use a bicycle rack. So far it has met my expectations (reliable, decent fuel economy...low 20’s around town and up to 26 mpg on road trips, quiet cabin, comfortable seats, good acceleration, decent handling for an SUV, good maneuverability, and feels very solid on the road. This vehicle can hold up to five people and their luggage comfortably. The luggage area is especially well designed, with excellent capacity, and is easy to pack. The ergonomics work well for me (6’5”) and my wife (5’7”), and I appreciate the programmable front seats. It took some time to adjust to the Command system, but I find it very easy to use now. It is expensive to maintain every 10,000 miles, so I purchased the MB maintenance package at a 30% discount to regular maintenance prices and a MB extended warranty up to 75,000 miles. I also joined the MBCA which rewards you with up to a 10% discount during servicing (more than pays for itself quite quickly with the discounts). The original owner replaced the front shocks under warranty early in their ownership. So far, my only need for warranty service was for a malfunctioning driver side shoulder belt mechanism. At my 50,000 mile maintenance (just completed), I had my rear brakes replaced (rotors and pads @ $750). I am satisfied with this vehicle and would consider purchasing it again. Given the new safety features available now, I would add blind spot monitoring, automatic braking, and dynamic cruise control. I would also select the OEM tow package for the electronics and increased tow capacity.

This is my 1st MBZ purchase. I have always wanted to own a MBZ SUV, but I'm not the typical client. It took several weeks to find exactly what I wanted, at a price I could afford. This car drives like brand new!!! Steering is perfect, the ride and comfort inside is perfect! It handles well and has plenty of acceleration. I'm extremely impressed with the overall design and fit on the interior. The bench rear seat can easily seat 3 adults, with plenty of legroom. Overall this is a very fun and comfortable car to drive.

I have a 2012 E350 Mercedes. I have not had it 2 years yet. I have replaced brakes, calibers , brake shoes, pads, etc. This week a belt broke and now I have to replaced belt, pulley and bracket. It is going to take 3 to 4 days to fix because they have to order the parts. Everything cost twice as much than other vehicles.

Bought it from MB London (ON) Nov-12, with good discount: I didn't plan on 550, but it turned out it was hard to find a bargain 350 with the upscale interior - genuine leather, cooling seats, leather dash (plastic seats as basic can be practical - but shame to have it on a luxury SUV !) I test drove 2011 ML 63 AMG prior to that - got somewhat puzzled/disappointed with it, but 2012 upgrade seems to make a good performance difference: it's so smooth & powerful, quiet engine, good steering.. It's just flying on highway speeds, great to do maneuvers.. Just 3K km on odometer - cannot comment on reliability yet

2012 MB ML350 4Matic Nine Year Review

Purchased the vehicle in January, 2016 from a non-MB dealership with 27,500 miles on the odometer. I am the second owner. My first experience with the ML model was when I was given use of a loaner when our Sprinter was in for service at the dealership. Being 6’5”, I was impressed by how comfortably I fit and the ergonomics of the vehicle were perfect. The ML felt very planted and competent at all speeds, and we appreciated the quietness, versatility, and safety of the vehicle. My wife is 5’8” and we both appreciated the programmable front seats. When we needed to replace our prior vehicle, I was able to find our ML 350 4Matic for a decent price. I purposely chose to purchase it slightly used (one owner, low miles, three model years later) to minimize the effects of depreciation. I have used different dealers and independents for maintaining our vehicle and pretty much work between two of them now. Both have proven trustworthy and competent. In our nine plus years of ownership, I have added about 55,000 to the odometer and have maintained it per its schedule. Outside of regular maintenance, the only issues encountered so far are wear on the outside left side of the MBTex fabric on the driver’s seat, and the driver’s side upper shoulder harness adjuster (repaired under warranty). If I were to replace our ML, I would likely go hybrid for better mileage, and would include a factory hitch, blind side monitoring, auto cruise control, and the other safety features included in newer vehicles. I would consider purchasing a slightly used vehicle again. We have been very satisfied with this vehicle.
