Driving feel being lost among electronics

This is my 3rd MB. Owned an E500 4m for a year, and decided to sell. First the good news, the car was totally reliable and finely finished inside and out, but a few months of driving revealed a series of irritations that added up. There's throttle lag in this model, and brakes are hard to modulate due to the 'SBC'. The steering power assist at lo speed is non existent, and at any speed the wheel needs constant input to stay on line. The airmatic works well at speed in corners and to isolate cabin, but go over a bump at lo speed and your head will bob. My old E430 4m felt roomier and easier to drive in suburbia and city. This car is engineered to compete with BMW in autobahn conditions, not on Long Island.

After having driven this car for a few months and reflecting on my ownership experience with previously owned upscale sedans I have determined this is, by far, the best car I have ever had. Mercedes has done an excellent job of engineering and elimininating all the negatives one may have heard about a diesel car. I defy you to find a better combination of performance, luxury and value!

WE upgraded from a 2000 wagon. The 2004 model amazed us in the improvements both on the inside, but more importantly on the drive. The newer models start from a stop faster and they corner even better. Only negatives really are the price and the reduced head room for the rear (3rd) seat.

This is my third Mercedes purchase, first was the C230, second the S320, and now this model. While I enjoyed ownership of all previous Mercedes models, this sedan suits me the best. It is a perfect size and style. It is comfortable, yet fun to drive. The sound system provides great listening for my opera or rock CD's.

This is the best car that I have ever owned! The ride is smooth. The weight of the vehicle makes me feel safe. I have had the vehicle for 18 months and it has been in the repair shop one time for an oil change. The overall size of the vehicle makes it easy to manuever in traffic. The sound system in the vehicle is awsome. I would highly recommend this vehicle to anyone.

After owning 5 Mercedes I opted for a change 3 years ago (Lexus GS430) as quality issues plaqued the brand. I have just brought myself back into the Mercedes fold and I must say..this vehicle is AWESOME!! Performance, fit and finish, styling is perfect. The car is solid, comfortable and fun to drive. This car is a KEEPER!

This car is one for the ages -- in the proper exterior color and interior package it will turn heads. The power this car possesses almost got me locked up already for running against a Corvette in the city. Handling at high speeds is rather impressive, and the brakes are very responsive (almost too responsive at times. The nav system is very easy to operate and the heated and dynamic seats are luxuries that once you have them, they are now a must on any car you will ever purchase in the future. Rides extremely smooth and comfortable and after a few spins in it; you'll definitely feel why you spent what you did on it. This car is for mature adults only!!

This car is rock solid, regardless of the road. It never leaves me feeling like I'm not in total control. Performs without flaws. A real touring sedan.

The 2005 E-320 4Matic has exceeded our expectations as a safe, stylish, comfortable automobile. Our harsh Maine winter showed us the value of the advanced lighting (bi-xenon), traction controls, excellent visibility and clean clothing as a result of the automatic trunk closure. The heated steering wheel was a safety feature during sub-zero temperatures, eliminating the need for bulky gloves for driving. As prior owners of the last 3 E Class styles, we feel the 2005 model is a cohesive step forward in style, safety and amenities over its predecessor.

Bought car used with 5k with xenon, parktonic, & panoramic roof - three great options! The brake pump is very annoying as it cycles on and off. Base stereo much better than anticipated. Averaging 21 mpg which seems reasonable. Would have preferred used low mileage S class but my boss owns one. 2007 S Class scary in terms of long term maintenance. Best to lease I guess.

The new one is smaller and much more plastic. Driver seat is comfortable, passenger is not. Sure, it has more zip but it should be called a 200 series as that is the size of the body. Nowhere near the space for passengers in rear.

I live approx. 26 miles from work. I needed a nice luxury car with good gas mileage since my last ride was a Hummer H2. This car has it all. Good gas mileage, a perfect blend of comfort and sportiness and luxury. Safety features are top notch. I feel very safe, secure, and pampered in this car. Funny thing with this car is the faster I drive it, the better gas mileage I get. I drove it to California and averaged about 33 mpg. I usually get 28 back and forth from work. First thing I did was put on some custom chrome wheels. So far had the car for 4 months and no problems. If you do purchase this car make sure you take time at delivery to learn all the great things this car can do

I have driven 3 Mercedes, ML320, ML65, E320 4matic. The E500 is by far the best Mercedes I have ever owned. I love the luxury which the ML lacked. The reduction in wood on the doors is, in my opinion, a loss of style. The performance is okay. I will buy a Mercedes forever.

This car has so many things going for it. The diesel engine so far has been amazing. I averaged 37.5 MPG on a recent trip to Florida. I drove 722 miles on one tank. I like that! That and 0-60 in 6.6 sec. in amazing to me. The car is beautiful in every way. It has a great ride. Recently I have been hearing a whistle in the vent fan. Not sure what that is. It sounds a little more noisy than when I purchased it 4 months ago. I would buy this car again. The only complaint is that Mercedes thinks they know better than we do and automatically turn the recirculate button off when it thinks it should. I press that button a hundred times a day. It's my car, let me decide!

At 100K miles, hello headaches

Once these cars age, they eat parts like a kid eats candy. I bought mine a year ago at 90K miles and it has been a constant headache and very unreliable. Always heard MB cars are good to 300K miles, but doubt that now. I thought I was getting a bargain, but it's not. Most parts online are reasonably priced but take days to get; local parts stores charge as much as twice what online parts dealers get, but often don't have what I need. I do much of the work myself and luckily have a reliable independent shop that works on European cars to handle what I can't; if I didn't do much of it, I couldn't afford this car. These are complex cars and you pay extra for the experience it takes to fix them. Plus they can have hard-to-solve problems. For instance, I have a voltage "leak" that drains the battery if not driven in two days, and the shop can't figure it out. Mercedes dealers are notorious for charging seriously outrageous prices for parts and service (most car dealers make more money from service than new car sales), so get ready for a shock when they hand you a bill. My car performs very well, is super comfy and the tunes are awesome ... when I can drive it. I love it when it's working right but so glad I have a second car. In short, it's a real love/hate relationship. Buyer beware.

Right from the purchase this was a problem car. The entire fuel system ( diesel ) had to be replaced, a warranty item. Then the front ball joints had to be replaced. This happened twice. This vehicle had fancy seat controls all of which FAILED. Brakes were bad and had to be fixed. The fuel injectors ( diesel ) failed and required THREE REPLACEMENTS. Yes, the almighty Mercedes Benz can still makes lemons. And I met people who had similar issues.

This is the second "E" class I have owned. The first was an E320 Cab. Both cars are first rate. The only slight disappointment has been the gas mileage. My hope is that this will improve by the end of its first year. This hope is based upon the belief that the car will break-in and get better. Hope this is true. The ride and handling is as expected -- and quite good. I look forward to many years of driving pleasure.

I traded in a C6 Corvette because I didn't like getting pulled over every other day by cops wanting to eyeball it. This is much more discreet, until one notices the four tailpipes and V8 Kompressor badges. It corners more confidently in high-speed sweepers than the Vette did, and accelerates just as hard, even harder in roll-on acceleration. I notice other reviewers have given it high marks in fuel economy - not me, I average about 11 mpg.

This is the vehicle that blows away all the old dirty diesel tales. It's quiet, burns clean and with all the torque available, absolutely hauls the mail. Add to those qualities the fact that I get almost 38 mpg on the highway (Reno to Phoenix on one tank)...the fuel efficiency increases with high average speeds (75-85)...and about 30 mpg in town. If you're on the highway a lot...you gotta go for the 6CD changer and Sirius system (when's the IPOD dock coming?!)...COMAND is cool. I'm never leaving this car.

Class and sass! After being loyal to BMW for the last 9 consecutive years, I didn't think MBenz could change me. After seeing, then driving the "05 E500 I was in love! I cannot believe all the luxury features in this vehicle from ventillated seats and seat heaters to seats that massage your lumbar area and power bolsters in the front seats that hug you at every turn! It drives very smooth and quiet (you almost forget the tiger under the hood). For the extra dollars the V8 cost over it's sister V6 version, it has proven to be more than worth it. Besides getting the obvious boost in HP, the V8 has features that are standard on it that would be an option on the V6. I truly adore this car!

I wanted the performance of an 8 cylinder at the cost of a six and found it with the E320 CDI. Fantastic appearance and acceleration. Not crazy about Mercedes service. Warranty work seems hard to get unless their computer shows a fault even though mechanic diagnosed problem during test drive. The car "bucks" briefly when pulling out from a stop.

This car is exciting on so many different levels. There is nothing like it on the road even though Audi and Cadillac try very hard. There's still nothing that feels, smells, or drives like a Benz. Faster than some Ferraris and Porsche's but practical enough to strap my daughter into her car seat and go go go!

Recently purchased the E500 at several thousand under dealer invoice. This car is fantastic. It has great power, comfort, and with the adjustable suspension, a great ride for any occasion. The dynamic seats are a feature I'll never be without again. The mileage is good considering the power and my heavy foot. Better than 27 mpg highway and 22 overall per the onboard computer. Navigation makes driving in new places a breeze. Takes the guess work out of knowing where you are. The transmission is smooth, but the brakes are a bit touchy. Takes a while to get used to them. My other car is a C320 and it now feels slugish by comparison.

Our family has owned three MB diesels, one reaching 530K miles (Ford truck hit it, o/w would still be driving it). Safety was our primary reason for puchase, along with MB durability. This Benz is typical solidity, heft ad assurance. There is some diesel grunt to the engine, but at 80 mph, it's actually quiter tha the gasoline sister. Torque is breath taking.
