... our 2004 E320 4Matic is still running like a champ! No significant mechanical issues and the car has never left us stranded. We keep it in the garage (our 2015 GLK350 gets the carport parking) and keep up on all the maintenance religiously. Get the E500 if you want a rocketship. We're happy with the trusty M112 V6 engine. Enough power for most applications yet provides decent fuel mileage. It's a much more desirable engine than the dreaded M272 in the 2006 - 2009 E350 that was prone to balance shaft failures (there's even a class action suit against Mercedes for this now). Handling is decent for a wagon but eats tires.

Bought this 2004 W211 Estate (wagon) used In 2012 and 84k miles for a ridiculously low price from local non-MB dealer. Since car had been serviced at local M-B dealer, I continue to bring it there for all scheduled maintenance and always work with same service advisor who knows how I like to take care of the car. Completed repairs for expected issues including radio volume control (used known repair shop in NJ), transmission connector, rear luggage cover motor, heater blend valve, rear seat latch, all front CV joint boots, front suspension bushings and springs, fuel tank sending unit. In the past year at 135k miles, completed major renovation including shocks, pads and rotors (4 wheels), new tires (previous set drove 40k), repainted all 4 wheels as previous owner rashed 2 of them up a bit, new windshield (as insurance company did not like the number of dings in the glass), repainted hood and fascia (as previous owner said she had scratched the fascia backing out of garage). Car is garaged and kept in showroom condition. Trips to Vermont in snow and ice are effortless and worry free. After 5 hrs of driving, you arrive refreshed. Check the weather band radio for national weather service forecasts. Enjoy favorite tunes with the surround sound + Sub. Load in 7 adults (2 in the rear "rumble seat") and you have a crew bus. Not expected to accelerate like an AMG V8 because it is not that...but still has plenty of torque whether full or empty. Have to watch the speedo as the quiet ride will easily send you up above the speed limit. Even though it is a wagon, it is valet parked with the high end sports cars. Cleans up very well despite its 12+ years. Expecting another 250k, at least. As dealer Quality Control wrote on recent service, "car is in spectacular condition".

Car of my Dreams with Perpetual Maintenance!

We purchased our Mercedes E320 Wagon new from the dealer and it was an incredible driving and great looking car. I took perfect care of this vehicle: kept it looking showroom perfect, always dealer maintained, and did all the services as scheduled. I was really hoping this car would last us a real long time with minimal problems. I was sadly mistaken. Early on things started breaking - even under warranty. Little things like the auto cargo shade stopped working that the dealer tried to fix. Then as the warranty expired, the real repair started. The air suspension went out right at 50,000 miles. This costs over $1000 per wheel to fix. The dealer agreed to do this repair under warranty - BUT IT FAILED A TOTAL OF 4 TIMES! When it fails, it leaves you stranded. Main oil seals failed (BIG repair $), the main computer fried in the middle of an I-10 trip and left us stranded because the AC lines sweated on the electronics. We hit a pothole driving 5 MPH and the wheel strut bent. Engine mounts failed. More and more small electronics failed: auto headrests didn't go down, steering column adjustment didn't work, window spray lines broke... The frequency and cost of repairs was really mindboggling. After the 4th failure of the air suspension (that left us stranded yet again on the interstate) and a $1300 alternator replacement we finally traded the vehicle in for close to nothing. I know many of you are saying to quit griping with the repairs - its an expensive import car. We realize that. However we really expected the quality of this car to be much better than what we got. It literally became so unreliable we couldn't trust it for much of anything. But it looks awesome and when it runs - it gives you a ride you cant beat! Update: after the repeated air pack failure and the alternator going out ($3000) we traded this car in 2 years ago and bought a Volvo XC60. Beat decision we ever made!

Great Wagon but the Transmission.

Purchased this for my wife with only 20k 4-years ago and the car has been great except the transmission. The 722.6 transmission was problem in the older E320 and still is. The TCU connector seal failed which Mercedes had an updated part but then in leaked later on also. Read some forums and I'm not alone. Even the new 722.9 Transmissions are having issues. I have owned 4 Mercedes and all the transmissions have had issues.

This is a great car when it works, but we have had tons of suspension, braking and electrical problems. Fixing anything costs at least an arm and a leg. This is my very last Benz. German engineering just means "expensive to fix".

E-500 Wagon tires

This is a superb touring vehicle with comfort, and all-around good performance. Original tires, Continental ContiTouring, were a problem. The rear tires had little wear left on them at 7000 miles, the fronts would have lasted a little longer. Upon complaining, MB service dept told me they were a high performance tire with a very soft compound. I think they were unsuitable for 98 per cent of the users who purchase this car. Advice if buying this vehicle? Look at the DOT rating stamped on the sidewall. Anything less than 400 ask for a different tire. I replaced them with Bridgestone Potenza's with a 50,000 mile treadwear warranty. There's no difference in ride, comfort or handling.

This Car is Near Perfect!

This car is absolutely fantastic. I have owned many other luxury imports, including several MB's and this car beats all of them HANDS DOWN! The car is the perfect size- when I am driving alone it doesn't feel excessive, when I need to take clients out it is luxurious and comfortable, and when I take the kids our the 3rd row keeps them (and their mess) out of the passenger compartment. The car just plain feels right. From a handling perspective, the car sticks to the road like glue. I have owned a Porsche 911 and this sticks as tightly as the Porsche. I don't know if it is the rubber, the 4Matic, or what, but it all works beautifully. I cannot describe how happy I am with this purchase.

A serious problem with a loud banging noise- and feels like a flat tire- in shop for the second time- was told it was the 4-matic system this is a $70,000 car. Not fixed yet. I have 4,000 mi. on the car. Mercedes is not what it used to be.I own many cars. I feel the quality of this car is poor. I also feel that Mercedes is not being responsible enough for quality control.

I purchased my 2004 in October 2006 with 22K miles. He has 165K now. Drove him all over the place. He's been to ATL and back to So Cal. Weather in ATL (Snow & Ice) and high heat and humidity. Work horse. I have had him serviced at OC Benz for years and in ATL, Revolution in Decatur, GA. Yes, he has had a few issues: air compressor on back hatch; rear air shocks; fuel injector, .... but on average I have put 2K a year in maintenance and the larger items. Still drives like a dream. Plan to drive for another year or two. Love this car and would love to purchase another.

This car has it all! Style, power, comfort and best of all its a Mercedes. I drove the BMW 5 series before buying this car and they honestly dont compare. After driving this car I know I will be a Mercedes owner for life! Even the fuel economy on this car is great. I have 13000 miles on mine and have not had one problem. I reccommend this car to anyone looking for a stylish dependable fun to drive car. Its the BEST>

After driving a 2000 wagon for 4 years and loving it I ordered a "new" 2004 wagon only to find the interior passenger room much smaller, the second row of seats are not as roomy, knee room tighter, the headroom seems to be lower, the 3rd row jump seat lost 5 inches head room due to the spare under the seat. I did not accept the car. I have been driving a Mercedes for over 40 years.

After a disasterous 2000 E Class wagon (windshield leak, ox sensor fault, aircon breakdown...), this one seems much better put together and of much higher quality. The dark grey exterior is striking while the interior is much improved. I acutally think the wagon looks better than the sedan. They might have got it right this time.

This AWD wagon is fantastic. The driver gets a choice of sporty or cushioned ride at the touch of a botton. And the V-8 engine delivers power when needed. The Nav system is also very useful. This is a definite upgrade to the 1999 E320 I used to drive and also loved. My only disappointment is the relatively low number of miles per gallon.

The Car is great....with gas prices soaring near $3.00 per gallon, we traded in our Lincoln Navigator for a more fuel efficient family car. The kids love sitting in rear facing back seat and the car is fun to drive and beautiful to look at. With added 17 inch factory wheels, tinted windows and in brilliant silver, it is a head turner...especially at the gas station

Great car. Feels very solid and tank like as should any Mercedes. I should advise any interested buyers to highly consider the more expensive E500 wagon cause 221 hp isn't going to keep this two ton wagon up to speed with any Porsches. All in all a still excellent buy (not cheap though). My previous 2000 E320 wagon looked almost exactly the same even though there was a redesign last year. Very comfortable and relaxing to drive for long and quick trips. navigation system isnt that complicating, ride quality is amazing, and 4MATIC works great in foul weather. My rear window just randomly stopped functioning but other than that reliability has been decent. I timed a 0-60 run of about 8 seconds

I've had a love affair with this wagon since buying it in 2008 @54k miles. It has served me well and protected me for 9 years, and I wish I could get another one, but it's not made anymore. Sold it in March, 2018-had two buyers fighting over it. At this time in my life decided to get a hybrid car. Still miss my Mercedes.

I cannot believe the IDIOTS at the top of Mercedes, they made a decision that someone should be fired for! The comfort steering wheel is ANYTHING but that. The Sterio arrows in steering wheel just Scan the stations and do NOT skip to your presets as THEY SHOULD! The dealer said they changed this for this years model - ARE THEY NUTS!!! I'm So upset that I spent 70K & I also have to hold the preset for Memorie seating too instead of a One touch like the Caddys. Really silly stuff that could have been great! SHAME to the executives making BONE HEAD decisions.

I had a '98 E320 4 matic wagon and loved it. The 2004 model sacrifices some interior room but is more elegant looking and more fun to drive than the older model, and after initial skepticism I really like the voice- activated controls and navigation system.

We've had our new 2004 E320 4Matic Wagon for 2 weeks. It's early, but so far it's a gem. The new 4Matic systems seems very sophisticated. Three points of minor interest: the fuel milage seems not to be as good as the 2003, on ours, the compass isn't working right and the 3rd seat head room seems less than on the 2003 - a trade-off with aerodynamics, I'm sure. Nevertheless, the car feels solid and well planted on the road.
