Used 2004 Mazda Mazdaspeed MX-5 Miata Convertible Consumer Reviews
A fantastic roadster!
This car is a blast - light, quick and nimble. Light on maintenance costs, heavy on fun. I’ve owned my 2004 Mazdaspeed MX-5 for eight years (25000 miles), performed routine maintenance, and enjoy every drive.

This car is just a blast to drive!
My Mazdaspeed Miata is the perfect blend of performance, sportiness, handling, reliability, and quality, which is critical to me. The only convertible I seriously considered was the 240HP Honda S2000. Though its a great car, it wasn't worth the extra $6,000 or so; not to me. The only thing my Miata was lacking: I'd have liked a power top. BOSE stereo is great, too!

The Mazdaspeed Miata is a Great Car
This is a great car at a fantastic value. The only real competitor is the Honda S2000 for several thousand more. But this Miata is a much more beautiful car than the S2000 and the special edition red is awesome looking. Also the Miata has a superior Bose stereo system and a better looking interior. The stereo even sounds fantastic at 90mph with the top down. It isn't super fast 0-60, but it has more torque than the Honda and has really good acceleration at higher speeds. I test drove a Porsche Boxter and found this Miata more fun to drive and for 20 grand less. As an owner of 2 previous Miatas I can say that the Miata is as reliable a car as you can find.
Don't judge a book by its cover
A very mercurial car. Fun to drive on smooth roads, but the shorter sidewalls of the 17" tires result in a very stiff ride and really hurt the front end grip on rough roads. The car has good power, but only at wide open throttle and under full boost, which doesn't kick in until about 4500 rpm. With a fuel cutoff at 6500 rpm, the powerband is VERY narrow, so expect a LOT of shifting if you're going to drive it aggressively. And don't make the mistake of shifting early - falling out of full boost on an upshift can really upset the balance of the car. Same brakes as the SE MX-5, so they feel underpowered with the extra weight of the Mazdaspeed. Lots of potential, but it misses the mark.
Mazda's real Zoom-Zoom
I have a 94 red Miata that is more race car now than stock but this week I bought the new Mazdaspeed Miata and I'm very impressed. This car is so quick it is scary. I only have 180 miles on it so I am still in the "Break-in" period. I can't wait to get 600 miles on it so I can really open it up. I think it is so much faster than Mazda is telling people. The engine bay is beautiful to look at as well. Everyone has been impressed with it. This car is like a show car from the factory!
