Great SUV but it needs more power
We bought this 2017 CX-5 GT brand new and it now has 28k miles. PROS: Comfortable, quiet ride, handles well for an SUV, reliability. CONS: it is underpowered, which was fixed in 2019 I believe when Mazda added the turbocharged engine. If you are in the market, you may want to look at the model years with the turbo engine, which really solved the major gripe with this car. Regular maintenance is super easy to perform on this car, unlike my German cars, which tend to be overengineered. We took the Mazda on a 1500 mile trip and the comfort was wonderful. The car did struggle in the mountains so a turbo or a 6cyl engine would make this SUV perfect. If you are looking for great handling, you shouldn't be looking at an SUV anyway. My VW GTI does everything this car does plus it has a great handling.

Stiff ride, noisy on coarse pavement
This car has a stiff ride. That's great on smooth roads but Houston's crummy freeways are kidney-pounders in this car. The body movements tend to be quick and you will definitely feel the bumps and potholes. I'd love to see adjustable suspension or air suspension as an option on this car. It's pretty quiet around town and on new pavement at all speeds but coarse pavement results in a loud interior. The last decibel measurement I took on coarse pavement was 75+ db - pretty loud for a car interior. . Handling is great- it feels almost as good as a Miiata! When I'm driving the seat seems comfortable but when I ride in the passenger seat I find it uncomfortable after an hour or so. It's a good car but it could ride a lot smoother and be more quiet inside.

Excellent vehicle except for one thing!
I bought a 2017 Mazda CX 5 Touring brand new. This is my fourth Mazda vehicle. Love their cars… fun to drive, stylish, comfortable although my Mazda 6 (2011 and 2015) have considerable road noise…Other than that they have all 4 been excellent cars. However, in the last 6 months my CX 5’s infotainment system has been getting very “buggy”. It is especially problematic in cold weather until the car warms up. Evidently this is quite common. YouTube has a lot of videos showing different fixes for the problem. I contacted Mazda USA but of course it’s “past warranty”. I would have bought another Mazda but this has made me reconsider Mazda’s products. I hope this is not a sign of a wider problem! Other than this I really have no complaints. I feel their cars are still excellent. My only wish is that Mazda would recall these cars and fix the problem rather than saying “go to the dealership, pay hundreds and hopefully it will all be fine”.

Great Vehicle Overall
We have had our Mazda CX-5 for a while now. It's been a good vehicle to own. We have only had the infotainment replaced twice due to the ghosting issue, selecting by itself. Mazda dealer replaced entire unit with an upgraded screen. Red paint is not durable enough. The car was hit by a large bird in the front driver side fascia which resulted in a complete shutdown of the vehicle. We had to get some non-damaged panels repainted to match the new fascia paint. We inquired about getting the whole car repainted at a cost of over 10K!

I love my CX5. My favorite was my Mazda Tribute, but it was totaled in a wreck (held up really well in wreck, no one injured beyond some whiplash, hit in back wheel area and moved frame). I wasn’t fond of my replacement (CX7) simply because it had wider wheelbase and I prefer the less wide one. When I decided I needed a backup camera, I bought the CX5, and I’m very satisfied.
