Used 2005 Mazda 6 Sedan Consumer Reviews
A fine automobile in all aspects
This car is our third Mazda and out of the three, our favorite. Unlike our 2 previous Miatas, the Mazda6 begs to be pushed. While it is apparent one is driving a true sports car in a Miata, the Mazda6 has a low speed character that belies it true nature when pushed to its limits on narrow two lane roads. Using the transmission in manual mode allows the most precise and efficient use of available torque, minimizes understeer and keeps the brakes cool for true emergencies. This really is a fine automobile with fabulous seats, the creature comforts one expects in a true sports sedan, and absolutely impeccable fit and finish. I expect its reliability and resale to be outstanding.
Impressed
So far a great lil car, would recommend to new car buyers. Fun, comfortable, overall good design, better than other cars in the same class.
2004 Mazda 6 - many problems
I have had an '04 Mazda6 for approximately 18 months - was great for first few months and lived up to the hype and reviews. But after about 4 months it developed several problems that 2 dealers and national support have been unable or unwilling to fix. Power and gas mileage are WAY down, shifter mechanism is very rough and sloppy, brakes repeatedly develop a squeal, rough starting when cold, traction control is terrible in the snow, clutch often stammers. I have previously owned 2 other Mazda's ('89 MX6 and '99 626); both were good combination of value and reliability, leading me to get the new 6. I was very happy at first but am now very disillusioned with reliability/quality and lack of support from Mazda
Fantastic Performance, but...
...only fun for short hops. I'm 6'5", and I found out within a few days that the hard plastic of the center console really irritates my lower right leg on trips longer than an hour. The test drive didn't reveal that because I was having to much fun zoom-zooming, which the car does very nicely. Acceleration, handling, braking are all top-notch, and the 6-speed AT is like butter, except when you kick it down around 30 MPH -- downshift's too abruptly. Interior build quality is kind of low-brow, with cheap plastic in abundance, and the cloth seating is already showing wear after only five months. Would not buy again, now that I've lived with it, mainly because of driving position.
LOVEIT
I enjoy driving my Mazda6s, it is fun to drive. I just switched from the Tribute to the 6s and I am happy.
