Amazing Value and Style!
I am throughly impressed with the 2019 Mazda 3 Premium Hatchback. It comes fully loaded with so many safety and tech features, and on top of that, it is extremely luxurious inside. This Mazda is much more luxurious than Mazda vehicles of previous generations. I have owned a BMW, Land Rover, Volvo, Lexus, and a Mercedes, and this vehicle is just as luxurious on the inside as any of those vehicles. It also drives both sporty and comfortably at the same time! This is hands down the best hatchback you can buy on the market right now. Update 7 months later: This car still performs great and remains an amazing value! It’s handling is very similar to that of a BMW. The red interior is eye-catching. There have been some open recalls, but Mazda has been good about repairing the issues. Overall, this is an amazing car with a beautiful interior and exterior. It’s worth taking a look at! Update after one year and 21k miles: Everything I stated previously remains true, except a few additional comments. There have been a few recalls, and there was a minor problem with one of the speakers, but the dealerships have been more than accommodating with fixing the issues. I would recommend waiting a model year or two to get this vehicle if you are worried about these recalls; they are simply the result of a new production model. The hatchback drives amazingly well still. I often forget that it’s a Mazda, because it’s so luxurious inside. I stand by my previous review that this vehicle has amazing value and style! There have been no engine, transmission, or powertrain issues (which are the types of problems I’m used to seeing even early on with luxury European counterparts).

The premium package offers a very involving option
I simply must have a manual transmission in a sporty package, but I wasn't expecting such a perfectly balanced offering at this relatively reasonable price. The electric steering is reassuring and not vague. The power band seems to be everywhere from 1,500 rpm up to rev limit. The low profile tires are mated to a firm suspension that never beats you up but always seem sure footed. The interior is luxurious, the seats spectacular and the Bose stereo is awe inspiring. Sure the rear seat doesn't offer quite the same comfort, but if styling is important the hatchback is a real attention grabber. The gas mileage for us is 34.7 mpg for mixed driving and many hwy/local combined trips end up over 41 (up to 42) mpg when driven conservatively.

Horrible Car
I recently purchased a next-gen Mazda 3 and have had constant issues with the car since the day I bought it. Let's start with the emergency braking which went off without cause an hour after I drove the car out of the show room. After this continued everyday for two weeks I decided there must be something wrong with the car and it was also becoming very dangerous. I brought the car in and they told me nothing was wrong with the car only to find out a week later the car had been recalled for that exact issue. Once they fixed that all the other issues proceeded to follow. -Air conditioning blowing out the completely wrong temperature -Constant rattle from the passenger seat belt -The sound system not working for a day -The passenger door always getting stuck I also had the worst experience at Brookvale Mazda with service manager Darren. I have never been treated so poorly. He should not be on the front line. It's safe to say this car is terrible. Please save yourself the time and don't buy a Mazda.

Where's the catch?
It is hard to find a true bargain in life. Most of the times, things you thought would be bargains are in fact, slightly rubbish. Therefore, when something seems to be a bargain, there is usually a catch. The new Mazda 3 is a rare thing : it is a bargain. Well, there are a few things wrong with this car. Visibility is, at best, ''rather poor'', to put it gently. Cargo space is also a bit limited for the segment. And I am strugling to find more things wrong with this car. Anyway, the poor visibility is almost a non issue when you start looking at this car. It truly is amazing looking. It is not ''good looking for the segment'', it looks amazing in its own right. And the best thing is that the interior is just as good. It looks italian and feels like german built quality, which is kind of best of both worlds. Anyway, about the cargo space, if you are looking at that kind of car, you clearly are not shopping for a minivan, aren't you? What about reliability? I have a 2.0l manual GX hatchback, and nothing went wrong. It's also fairly simple mechanicaly, since it has a naturally aspirated carry over engine and should be rather reliable in the future as well. The suspension is effective but actually fairly simple, and there is a lot of working room in the engine bay. That means that owner maintenance is fairly accessible (looking at you, VW). Oh, and the manual transmission is sublime. The clutch is very well weighted and the shifts are precise and quick. What does set it appart is mainly the way it drives. It drives amazingly well. It manages to be comfortable and sporty at the same time. It is incredibly quiet at highway speeds for a car of this class as well. The seats are also very comfortable. So where is the catch? It drives even better than a german car, looks as good as an italian car, but here is the cherry on top of the cake : it was built by the Japanese. It's also practical and very well priced. That is the good thing about this car : there is no catch.

Awesome Car
I did extensive research on this and its competition, as I needed something that would be comfortable and fun to drive. I came from a BMW X1, which had a number of mechanical issues along with some electrical ones too. Once my lease expired, I did not hesitate to get this car after having test driven the competition. + The feature content is astounding and puts its competition and luxury makers to shame - love the HID display, active safety features (blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, etc.) + One-touch illuminated windows that actually go all the way down + Readable navigation (I bought the SD card) I'm actually not a huge fan of Apple Car Play - I think it is over-rated. Plus the SD navigation shows in the HID when driving + Comfortable interior with exceptional design and attention to detail - especially the seats and dash + Fun to zip through the canyons and traffic + Great visibility Wish List Ambient lighting with color choices 8 speed automatic (more gears) Economy mode in addition to sport mode Auto-stop when at a light More power.... without loss of efficiency

Fun Half Baked Car
The car drives amazing, it has an athletic feel about it. I thought the car had plenty of power and the engine was smooth for the most part. When driving the car, you can tell the engineers spent time making the engine and transmission work well together. I thought the exterior of the car was stylish and the interior was pleasing to my eye. The seats are comfortable. I went from a “luxury” car and I would say they rivaled those seats. The Bose sound system sounded amazing to me, it was one of my favorite things. I don’t normally care for Bose car audio. The car sadly had numerous issues. The piano black plastic around the shifter would scratch ridiculously easy. The lens cover for the instrument cluster also had problems with scratching. My red leather seats faded in general, and the wear points practically turned to an off-white color. The black rims developed a light milky haze and tended to develop rock chips easily. The HUD developed a metallic vibration noise that was fixed by the dealership and developed again within a couple hundred miles. Numerous rattles developed in the dash of the car that seemed to be temperature dependent. There were consistent rattles in the door cards and the pillars where the seat belts mount to the car. I also had issues with the weather stripping tearing around the doors because of their design. The windshield would develop so much condensation that the car was virtually undrivable. I have never seen a car so prone to condensation on the windshield. I have had many cars over my 20 years of driving. The front doors also have issues with sticking closed and has never been resolved by the dealer. When I purchased my car the variable cylinder management (VCM) was undetectable. The car was recalled for a flash to change the way the VCM worked making it very noticeable. In certain instances, the engine would develop a vibration when the VCM kicked in. I think slight inclines and the VCM activation caused the engine to convulse. On rare occasions when engaging the cruise control the RPMS would fluctuate by 500 or so RPMS, causing the car to shudder to the point that the steering wheel would develop a visible vibration. I really loved the personality of the car. I thought it was a fun car. I really wished the car would have worked out. I couldn’t handle the symphony of problems, so I sold the car back to the dealership. I would have bought another Mazda in a heartbeat if this car wasn’t so half baked. I’m not overly picky, this car was a total sh*t show. I am used to car issues, my two other cars are Volkswagens.

Worth it
I traded in my Denali SUV for this small AWD, Hatchback The good..power, quiet, great HUD, more comfortable for long drive, high end look. The bad....blind spots, lack of room for more that two, back seat, nothing you'd be surprised regarding a smaller car. Bottom line: Worth every penny

Great car!
4yrs of ownership now, and no change to my very positive review. I was looking to replace my replacement of my dying car with an affordable used car that suited me better for a longer ownership. I was looking at used, and had tested, lower mileage, Mazda3. Dealer said look at this new but last year's 2019 model Mazda3 w/AWD, which was new generation. Drove it and bought it. For only a few $1000 more but new car warranty, better interest rate and pay terms. Looks great, drives great, feels great, quieter inside, better basic sound, and noted reliability and safety (especially made in Japan versions). 28mpg w/AWD. Surprising get up and go from base 2.5L engine. Came with surprisingly good OEM tires. Amazing how much variety of stuff I have fit into this hatchback. And with a lower trim, i still got all sorts of safety features. Only reason not to buy are 1. You got more money and want more name and maintenance costs and depreciation and luxury than this near luxury car. 2. You carry more than 2 adults and 2 babies, as rear leg room is very small. 3. You need more than 5 inches ground clearance and more than onroad AWD. 4. You must have better than 28 mpg. 5. Some do not like Mazda dial info system. (Bit to learn, but then easy handle, safer/surer/durable than touch screen systems.) With driver aids, the lack of side-back view easily overcome. Back view is good. Toyota, Honda, Subaru, et al, cannot beat this car. (I had a turbo Subaru, and a nice Hybrid Ford) Warning: the beautiful Mazda paint (red on mine) is very thin and chips easily.

This car is amazing
Recently bought the AWD hatchback and all I can say is wow
Sexy car let down by technology
The car has class leading exterior and interior styling (Honda, Acura, Toyota are not even close when it comes to styling beauty) but the information system is overall a step backwards and should be redesigned immediately. The screen is very poorly shaped as it is very wide and very narrow height wise thus when you engage the back up camera you get a very small image that occupies only a small portion of the screen ( I have never seen such a tiny image on a supposed premium car (the back up cameras on the cheaper Hyundai's I drove were superior as at least on the US version of the 3 mazda short changed us and did not include trajectory lines or 360 degree camera). Even my older 2014 mazda 3 had a better back up camera as the screen is much bigger height wise resulting in a bigger image which fills the whole screen. I also noticed that the maps on the Navigation do not fill the screen and Mazda foolishly deleted the touchscreen functions which is clearly a step backwards as apple car play and android auto are designed to use touch screens (the older mazda had touch screens but it could be used only when the car was stopped (another snafu as Mazda should have the touch screen usable even while the car is moving). Mazda also needs to add more physical buttons either on the sides or bottom of the screen as this is very user friendly feature which I find on many other competing vehicles. I am also disappointed that we get the carryover 2.5 liter engine. Mazda should have introduced the 3 with the 2.5 turbo and the Skyactiv X as options. I also think Mazda should strive to make their vehicles with more interior room and cargo room rather than almost always rank near the bottom in this category when compared to its competition( also you need to realize the 3 should had ventilated seats, rear a/c ducts and maybe a panoramic sunroof if it really wants to be considered premium). Maybe Mazda could improve the back up camera without doing a completely new screen with maybe a software update which makes the camera image use the whole screen and have trajectory lines (this could be a running change that would be included in the later produced 2019 Mazda 3 and given as free update to the buyers who already own a 2019.

Very nice car.
Returned my Mazda 3 2016 lease and was looking for a new lease on the same level. It came to a decision between the Mazda 3 and the Honda Civic. Because of the extra tech options on the Civic i decided to go that way. But still the mazda 3 is a super car

Love it, with 1 caveat
This car has treated me very well in the 4 years I’ve owned it. Very reliable, comfortable, and I love the aesthetic. The only issue I’ve had is seemingly the suspension- any small pothole hit is very jarring. I have had to replace 4 tires in the past 2 years due to impact breaks. While I’ve never had one go flat on me, the frequency of the impact breaks is concerning. Other than that, love the car.
