Fun Half Baked Car

The car drives amazing, it has an athletic feel about it. I thought the car had plenty of power and the engine was smooth for the most part. When driving the car, you can tell the engineers spent time making the engine and transmission work well together. I thought the exterior of the car was stylish and the interior was pleasing to my eye. The seats are comfortable. I went from a “luxury” car and I would say they rivaled those seats. The Bose sound system sounded amazing to me, it was one of my favorite things. I don’t normally care for Bose car audio. The car sadly had numerous issues. The piano black plastic around the shifter would scratch ridiculously easy. The lens cover for the instrument cluster also had problems with scratching. My red leather seats faded in general, and the wear points practically turned to an off-white color. The black rims developed a light milky haze and tended to develop rock chips easily. The HUD developed a metallic vibration noise that was fixed by the dealership and developed again within a couple hundred miles. Numerous rattles developed in the dash of the car that seemed to be temperature dependent. There were consistent rattles in the door cards and the pillars where the seat belts mount to the car. I also had issues with the weather stripping tearing around the doors because of their design. The windshield would develop so much condensation that the car was virtually undrivable. I have never seen a car so prone to condensation on the windshield. I have had many cars over my 20 years of driving. The front doors also have issues with sticking closed and has never been resolved by the dealer. When I purchased my car the variable cylinder management (VCM) was undetectable. The car was recalled for a flash to change the way the VCM worked making it very noticeable. In certain instances, the engine would develop a vibration when the VCM kicked in. I think slight inclines and the VCM activation caused the engine to convulse. On rare occasions when engaging the cruise control the RPMS would fluctuate by 500 or so RPMS, causing the car to shudder to the point that the steering wheel would develop a visible vibration. I really loved the personality of the car. I thought it was a fun car. I really wished the car would have worked out. I couldn’t handle the symphony of problems, so I sold the car back to the dealership. I would have bought another Mazda in a heartbeat if this car wasn’t so half baked. I’m not overly picky, this car was a total sh*t show. I am used to car issues, my two other cars are Volkswagens.

I traded in my Denali SUV for this small AWD, Hatchback The good..power, quiet, great HUD, more comfortable for long drive, high end look. The bad....blind spots, lack of room for more that two, back seat, nothing you'd be surprised regarding a smaller car. Bottom line: Worth every penny

4yrs of ownership now, and no change to my very positive review. I was looking to replace my replacement of my dying car with an affordable used car that suited me better for a longer ownership. I was looking at used, and had tested, lower mileage, Mazda3. Dealer said look at this new but last year's 2019 model Mazda3 w/AWD, which was new generation. Drove it and bought it. For only a few $1000 more but new car warranty, better interest rate and pay terms. Looks great, drives great, feels great, quieter inside, better basic sound, and noted reliability and safety (especially made in Japan versions). 28mpg w/AWD. Surprising get up and go from base 2.5L engine. Came with surprisingly good OEM tires. Amazing how much variety of stuff I have fit into this hatchback. And with a lower trim, i still got all sorts of safety features. Only reason not to buy are 1. You got more money and want more name and maintenance costs and depreciation and luxury than this near luxury car. 2. You carry more than 2 adults and 2 babies, as rear leg room is very small. 3. You need more than 5 inches ground clearance and more than onroad AWD. 4. You must have better than 28 mpg. 5. Some do not like Mazda dial info system. (Bit to learn, but then easy handle, safer/surer/durable than touch screen systems.) With driver aids, the lack of side-back view easily overcome. Back view is good. Toyota, Honda, Subaru, et al, cannot beat this car. (I had a turbo Subaru, and a nice Hybrid Ford) Warning: the beautiful Mazda paint (red on mine) is very thin and chips easily.

test drive this car and you will end up buying it! I've owned an Audi and a Saab and this car is in the same league but better priced! Thank you Mazda, you've made a beautiful car that is affordable and sporty!
