Tens all around
The Mazda 3 is an excellent car! It gets terrific gas mileage, runs well, and with DOHC has great power. It's entirely reliable, and very roomy, yet with a compact, sleek look to it. Many people have asked me if my car is an Audi from looking at the exterior of it! I got a classy look, for a fraction of the price!
Compact....??? I say it's a sport.
I’ve spent about 3 months looking for a compact. What I found? Good cars, reasonable prices, and a total lack of attention to the small segment of cars. Mazda certainly created another concept for compact cars. I bought an M 3i sedan with power package, ac, sport/auto transmission and it is worthy everything single penny I spent. It is incredible to drive; it has an amazing design (exterior and interior), and an engine that needs no comments. The car is unquestionably the best in its segment

Great affordable car
Just bought the mazda 3i today, and drove all over 100 miles for fun. Handles great, smooth ride, and suprise on the acceleration. Drives like a sports car, but only a compact. The 3s have more add ins, but the price of the 3i you cant beat.
A Bullet with a Smile!
Love at first sight was just the begining. Sunlight Silver, Black Leather Interior, MoonRoof! What more could I say. The car just purrs like a kitten and is so silky smooth when accelerating I just have to keep an eye on the tach. As for the Hugging around bends and corners, off/on ramps.... just blew me away. 17" wheels and this car were ment to be. Even at highway cruising speeds this car is such a pleasure and a dream to be a part of I just can't say more.
New econobox on the block
Our 93 Civic gave up the ghost after 224,000 miles(original clutch)& we needed another car quickly. Despite the temptation to go back to Honda I loved the 3 hatchback. However, we could not find one with ABS/SAC with a 5 speed in the time frame necessary. Can't say we settled as I think this is the best handling "economy car" i've owned since the 914, GTI or the Audi Coupe. Other marques didn't come close to the overall package in this price range. AWD for an additional 1 to 2000 dollars would make this car a world beater.
Why Choose the Mazda 3?
The Mazda 3 is the first car that I have purchased on my own. For 2 years since I have had my drivers liscense I drove a 1992 Buick Skylark. Although the skylark was fairly reliable I just did not feel young and hip driving it. I love to drive, and there is nothing better than having fun while you drive a sports car, but being able to have the features of a sedan. The Mazda 3 truly is the best of both worlds.
I Love it!
Don't hesitate...it is perfect! Roomy for it size, handles fabulous, great on gas, nice sounds, fast! and all this and not a bad price either.
Style & Function
This car is extremely fun to drive! It handles great, and has plenty of power. It is also a real head turner. I've had people walk across parking lots and roll down their windows in traffic to tell me how great it looks and ask what it is. The excellet gas mileage and room for all the climbing gear we take on road trips put it over the top. We love it!
ALOT OF BANG FOR THE BUCK!
Mazda could have priced this car several thousand dollars higher and the would still sell...I compared this car to the Toyota Matrix/Pontiac Vibe and the Honda Civic...Way more fun and for my money a tighter car. Handles great, pick up in automatic is good but if you want more you can throw it into the clutchless mode and control the shifting yourself.
great for the price
Wow, i love this car. I origanaly owned a mazda Protge5 and realy enjoyed it but i always thought it could use a bit more zoom. Well this car has it, and the potential for much more. With the larger 2.3l dohc engine bringing 160hp and 150ft/lb of torque, it's exactly what mazda's compact hatchback line needed.
five door hatch
Looked at a number of other cars, matrix, vw, subaru, etc. The three had a lot more bang for the dollar. Still waiting to see how it really performs because of the break in period.
I think I'm turning Japanese
My family has always been a satisfied Chevy family. When I opened my options to include foreign cars for my first car purchase, I fell in love with the Mazda 3i. I needed an affordable car that was cheap to own and this fit the bill. I got the 3i completely loaded with options and I still found it very easy to afford. Plus, I'm 6'4" and about 245 and I have plenty of room in the car. I compared with the Jetta, S40, and this car met every single one of my requirements. Contrary to most of the reviews on this site, I found the A/C to be plenty powerful...and I'm a big sweaty guy!
Love the Mazda 3 Hatchback
This car is great, GREAT, fun to drive, reasonably priced and far more car than you'd expect in the price range. Oh, it looks great too. I test drove several Toyotas, the Volkswagen Jetta, the Mini Cooper and the Mazda 3 hatchback was my choice without question. The ride was more responsive, yet smoother, than the Toyota Corolla, Prius and Rav 4. It drives with just as much fun as the Mini Cooper but I felt less jolted by the road than the Mini--cabin noise was less pronounced too. The Jetta came closest but was at least $2000 more with a history of more repair costs. Terrific car. No regrets.
Mazda # - a winner
Test drove lots of other cars, Ion Red-line, Scion TC, Nissan SER Spec V, honda Civic, Toyota Corolla XRS, Neon. Final decision came down to the Scion and the Mazda 3. Opted for the 3S because the Scion TC felt to sedate and heavy. The 3S is like a big cat, light on its feet, flat in the turns, responsive at the wink of an eye. The interior fit and finish is superb, and the seats are a nice turn for an econocar-they are actually firmly supportive. The seating allows crank up or down, and the wheel repositioning is all needed to find a great driving position, oh yeah lumar suppport too. Mine has 5 speed, zenon lights, changer, TPMS, moonroof, and ABS and side airbags.
What the 3 Series used to be
I bought my Mazda3 2 weeks ago. By far best car I ever owned. Head turner, quality is impeccable, 2.3 litre with manual is fantastic. I put in Bosch quad Platinum spark plugs that bumped my torque up a bit. Great car, handles like a rear wheel drive with no torque steer.
Silver 5 speed with ABS, Sunroof, 6CD
I think I got a steal on this car. Exactly the color and options I wanted for just under 18K (just over invoice!) So far I have 2000 miles with Chicago city and highway driving. Fun little car for zipping around the city. Handles great, easy to park, gets good mileage for the power. I'm tall and can get comfortable but wish the seats moved up and down or the seat bottom pivoted back to accomodate my long legs. Chose Mazda over Golf, Audi TT, Mini, Volvo. I think Mazda is the better value for my needs.
Best Compact
So far I have 900 miles on the car. I don't have a single complaint yet. I chose this car out of the usual compact shopping list of Civic, Jetta, Corolla. The handling of the car is great. Even with the AT, the throttle is very responsive. Braking is equally responsive. Interior and exterior design is very attractive. Build of the car is very sound. I find the profile, and car in general, to be similar in comparison to the IS300 except 10k cheaper. Take it for a test drive and you'll see what you can get for sub 20k. My options include ABS/SAB/EBD, Xenon & TPMS, Sunroof & 6-CD, Sport, and Sportmatic AT.
Happy
I'm so happy with my purchase. I wouldn't trade for anything.
Love it!
When I first went to the dealrship I was looking at the Mazda 6 but with one look at the Mazda 3 I knew that I wanted the car. Now the real test would be driving it. I took the car over night I it handled so well even the people that had there doubts had nothing bad to say. I have had the car a little over 3 weeks and I am just as happy as the day I drove it off the lot.
Nice car for the price
Thsi car is a fun car to drive, and it is great quality for under $20,000. It is made great but the only downside to this car i have noticed is limited interior space in the rear seats, but if you are a couple buying this car or have small children, it is perfect.
great Mazda 3!
My Mazda 3 has been my favorite car I have ever owned. It is sporty, practical, and great fun to drive. I have had many luxury sedans, and two other small midsize cars. I like my Mazda 3 best. I have the hatchback body style.
Mazda has just about did it
Engine is a 2.3L with 160 crank HP. With this displacement, you could produce at least 200 crank HP by reworking the head and remapping the ECU. Exterior is unique and modern. The tire selection is the only drawback as they do not perform well on any vehicle. Interior is clean and easy to view. Material seems to be of high quality. Driver cockpit is a little tight. Performance is a little lacking. Though cornering is nice, the rear slips at high speeds. This is due to the tires and maybe the small rear sway bar. Power to the wheels is a bit hesitant while already moving at normal speeds, but on the other hand, speed does increase without even noticing.
Nicely Done
Previously owned '93 Toyota Corolla. Test drove '04 VW Golf TDI, Scion tC, Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Mazda 3s and 3i. Mazda is the best among them. Golf is less reilable. tC feels heavier. Civic lacks horsepower. Corolla doesn't have the style. Mazda 3 has all of these for a very good price. Bought 3i with power everything, alloy wheels, AC, fog lights, ABS, and airbags all around. Handling around tight curves on Lake Shore Dr is excellent. Seats are surprisingly comfortable and supportive on long highway trips between Chicago and Minneapolis. Independent wheel suspensions are quite good. Fuel economy is a plus. Design is unusally stylish.
Poor Man's Luxury Sedan
Hot little vehicle with a decent price tag.
great car
From the first time I saw a 3 I Have thought they looked great. Since buying it my opion has only improved. All my friends have complmented me on it. Every thing about the car feels and looks exceptional. The power is great and the handling supurb. Iwould strongly recomened it to anyone looking for an inexpensive sedan.
Love it!
I think this is an excellent car. I went from one of Detroit's "best" (a Chevy) to this car. No comparison. The build quality, ride, and value are excellent. Definitely more car for the money.
In front of the pack
I researched compact cars for over a year before I purchsed my red Mazda3 hatchback. What an amazing car! I can't count how many complements I have received at traffic lights and toll booths. More importantly, the car is comfortable, reliable and a pure pleasure to drive. I commute 30 miles to work everyday and enjoy every mile thoroughly. The Civic and Corolla are great cars...but the Mazda3 is greater. The exterior and interior are fantastic for this class of vehicle. The styling is very Euro inspired. If you want a great car for under $20000 this is the winner hands down. One test drive will speak volumes!!!
GREAT CAR!!
Great price, great gas mileage, inexpensive insurance, very appealling to the eye!
i love it!
i love my car, i am so happy with my pruchase i couldnt have done better.its awsome, i love it!!!!
ANOTHER SUCCESS STORY FROM MAZDA
The 2.3 liter engine gives this lightweight car a lot of Zoom Zoom. That said, you still feel like there is more real metal than plastic like in a lot of cars.
Whoootah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the handling is great....looks cool....fun....different than the SUV my wife now drives......tight on corners and has the ability to accelerate quickly when called upon.....
Love it - except the gas cap
It is a good little commuter car, fun to drive and good gas mileage. But I am a little dissapointed with the problems associated with gas cap and the vapor capture system. At less than 1000 miles, the check engine light came on. They said I did not tighten the gas cap enough. I had been warned by the salesman to tighten the gas cap. The light came on again same week I got it back. They kept it a week (with a free loaner car-but I wanted my new car back). They replace the gas cap. When that didn'twork, they replaced a valve (one they had never replaced before-that made me feel good). Just after 2000 miles, back again-need to tighten gas cap. This is very annoying.
Very Happy With My Mazda
I have been driving for over 35 years. I have owned 10 new cars. My Mazda3, after 7 months of use has been my favorite. The pick-up is hearty, fit and trim is excellant, it is very comfortable and I still get looks while I'm driving it. I am sharing it with my sixteen year old daughter and we actually fight over who gets it. I only wish the gas mileage was better. We get better mileage on our 2002 Camry which is heavier and has a larger engine. Even so, I'd rather be, "zoom, zoom, zooming".
Mazda3isgood
This car floored me when I first learned about it at the dealership. I was actually looking at the RX8, but at 6'2", was too tall for the RX8. The 6 is nice, but this car is more nimble, fun to drive, and allows you to spend your extra money saved elsewhere!
Love it!!!
I have had this car for a couple of months now and I have gotten nothing but compliments except for the people jealous that they don't have one.
Honolulu traffic
I like to compare it to my friends new Jetta. Of course he paid alot more and can't control his radio from the steering wheel as I pull away from him!
Amazing Car!
Everything about this car is amazing. It drives like a BMW 3 series (believe me, I have driven one...) and the interior is very upscale. Thank you Mazda!
3 Review
A great value for the money.17" alloy wheels, Goodyear V rated Eagles, 160hp. This car is tight, responsive, fun to drive and with it's 103" wheelbase rides like a midsize. Fit and finish is top notch. Strong attention to detail. I recommend the S if finances allow. The sport package, at $500.,makes a nice car a little nicer. As far as the ABS and and the side a/b curtain, there is no debating the obvious advantages, however offered as package, is a costly option. The added price of safety is for individual to decide.
Mazda 3 Hatch after 500 miles
I was looking for something to replace my boring 98 Corolla sedan, but with the 30+ mpg. Test drove both of the new Corollas with the 130 and 180 hp engines. Both of these cars sucked compaired to the old car. Looked at the Matrix and Elantra GT, but never drove either of these (cold only find them in automatics). Matrix looked small (Geo-Mertro like) from the outside, and the trunk was small on the inside. Then I sumbled onto the Mazda 3 Hatch. Wow, this is what I was looking for! A car with style, good performance, smooooth engine, smooth clutch, smooth shifting. The Mazda 3 has farily comfortable seats, and arm rests that you can accually use. This car can be fun to drive.
My first import.....
The new Mazda 3 is great. Good looks, lots of room, economical yet powerful. The car is the best driving car in it's class that I have found, and I did what seemed to be hundreds of test drives; everything from the Ford Focus to the Honda Civic. This car just plain smoked the competition in ALL areas.
Hot Car
The looks of this car are incredible! Mazda really put together a great car. The interior materials are top notch and it's put together nicely. The car in an all around beautiful car. It performs great and no other car comes close in it class. It begs to go for long fast drives, it loves corners and entrance ramps. Mazda is by far the hottest car company! The finished product is that of engineers who spent late nights and thinking outside conventional compact. Go Mazda!!!
Great new car to start with!
iT WAS SO FUN TO DRIVE. Taking turns was like a race car game. And best of all, I paid Invoice for it. Pickup is excellent, even uphill and the AT transmission switching to manual for pasing rocks.
Three months of the 3
I bought this car in early January and I am pleased with jumping into this new model as soon as I did. I got one with all the options. The car is quick, and has a smooth, quiet ride. The sport automatic is a nice compromise, for one who is used to a manual transmission. The exterior styling is very nice.
Got it Loaded with everything
Okay, I have to say I like the power of the 5-Speed. I think for the money you cant beat it.
Love this car
this vehicle was supposed to be for my wife that is 9 months pregnant. We chose the mazda "s" for the four-door capabilities. I'm having more fun driving this car than my Dodge Hemi!
Mazda 3
excellent car for the money. definitely worth a look
WOW!!!
I was very unfamiliar with Mazda autos until I was recently given a Mazda 3 sedan as a rental from Hertz. My interest and curiousity was immediately piqued by just the base model rental. I decided to research the car on the internet and read good things. I then decided to visit the dealership in the Thousand Oaks Auto Mall in Thousand Oaks, CA where I got my first close up view of the S3 2.3 Litre Hatchback. I loved it at first sight. Then I drove one. WOW! So...without further delay...I BOUGHT IT RIGHT THERE...AND I LOVE IT!!! Dude, this ride comes with EVERYTHING for under $23,000.00 and punks any Lexis in its class both in performance and price!
ZOOOOOOMM ZOOOOOOM
After being greatly disappointed by the Matrix XR, my wife and I went to try the next car on our list, the 3s Hatchback. No comparison. The 3s blows away the Matrix on HP and standard equipment. We got the Titanium Gray color with 4 speed auto. The dealer had a labor day sale going on, and we got it for $17,109. I love the getup and go this car has, and the tranny shifts smoothly. It reminds me of the 1989 Honda Civic si that I had because it is just fun to drive. The controls were hard to get used to, but, are very easy to use after a little bit of practice. I had a 1975 Mazda GLC, and got about 240K out of it. I have nothing bad to say about this car at all.
Fun, practical, looks good, zoom zoom
I had an Acura Integra which I liked, finally made a change and couldn't be happier. Fun to drive, looks nice inside and out, plenty of room and power in a small package, good mileage. Winning Blue looks great!
NO good
I purchased a Mazda3 Jan. 2004 to commute to school and work. I am very displeased with it. The worst problem is that, in automatic, when the vehicle shifts from 1st to 2nd gear, at around 2500 RPM, there is a great jolt. The car jerks a lot, sometimes more than others. I called the dealership and they told me that it was the "nature of the beast." They had gotten similar complaints, but there was nothing they could do about it. The car is also loud (belts and fans) and noisy inside while driving. I want to get rid of it.
