The entry-level 2023 Lexus NX 250 is key to that strategy, with its roomy interior, cutting-edge infotainment and attractive starting price.

The base model offers essential features, including a bundle of useful driver aids, but luxury buyers will likely gravitate to the Premium and Luxury trims for more robust offerings: quilted leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, a power liftgate, and a hi-def 14-inch touchscreen (optional on the Premium) among others. The latter is a welcome departure from the distant display and frustrating touchpad controller of past NX models.
More practically, the NX 250 has nearly 23 cubic feet of cargo space, roughly the size of a standard washing machine. That's more than the GLC but less than the GV70 or RDX, but they're slightly longer, and the NX's cargo area is easy to access and accommodating.
The NX 250 joins a more powerful NX 350 and two hybrids, the NX 350h and NX 450h+. Some buyers may consider those options given the NX 250's modest power: just 203 horsepower from a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. It's adequate, fuel-efficient (28 mpg combined) and keeps the price low, but power falls far short of most rivals. And compared to alternatives like the RDX or BMW X3, the Lexus lacks spirit. Pleasantly comfortable in a straight line, the NX 250 isn't as sharp or responsive when the road bends. Still, buyers more interested in value and fuel economy, with modest performance expectations, will find plenty to like in the 2023 Lexus NX 250.
2023 Lexus NX 250 trim level differences
The 2023 NX 250 is a compact luxury SUV that seats five. It comes in a single base trim, to which you can add Premium or Luxury packages. The lone engine choice is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine (203 horsepower, 184 lb-ft of torque), paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is optional. The NX 350 and the NX 350h and 450h+ hybrids are reviewed separately. Compare the 2023 Lexus NX 250 trim levels in-depth.
Which NX 250 trim does Edmunds recommend?
Stick to the base trim if you want to keep the price around $40,000, but we think adding the Premium package makes sense. It's not much more than the base trim yet adds appealing extras like a hands-free liftgate and ventilated front seats. It also opens the door to desirable options, such as the larger touchscreen, wireless phone charger and upgraded audio system. If you're left underwhelmed by the NX 250's modest power, consider the NX 350 or NX 450h.

Recalls
3 recalls foundChecking if a car has a recall is simple. Just type the car's VIN number into the NHTSA website (https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls). If there's an unrepaired recall, you'll see it there.
If a recall shows up, just call your local car dealer. They'll know about the recall and will work with the car maker to fix it for free (if the recall happened within 10 years of the car being first sold).

2022 Lexus NX 250 4dr SUV (2.5L 4cyl 8A)
Brand new Lexus NX250 with not even 400 miles is giving me issues already that the dealer doesn’t know what’s wrong with it. They were able to see that the car turned itself off in the computer logs, but couldn’t figure out why it would do that.
Three times this car has shut off in what seems like a malfunction at a traffic light. I’m not talking about the feature “Stop&start”, but the … car will actually COMPLETELY turn off at the light. The car will shut my music off, chime really loudly, message will pop up that engine stopped and to shift to P and that there is low power steering, and check engine light will come on. Also keep in mind, when this happens my car is still in drive, thus the car acts like it’s in neutral until I put it in park. When I shift to P and restart the engine, it will turn back up with no hesitation and the check engine light will go away.
Very disappointed.
On the bright side the car is very smooth, quiet, and feels very nice. It’s a shame that It’s giving such electrical issues at such low miles.

2022 Lexus NX 250 Premium 4dr SUV AWD (2.5L 4cyl 8A)
Standard features are lacking such as a power tailgate or beeping sound when backing up. Instead it has standard bothersome fancy push door handles to get out and standard no flat tires Ugh!!! Too many annoying safety features too. This purchase was a mistake for me. At least there are comfortable seats while I ride out this purchase before I can trade it in without taking too much of a … loss.

2022 Lexus NX 250 4dr SUV (2.5L 4cyl 8A)
I am 77 years old and had Lexus UX 200 base model that had very good safety features. I upgraded to NX 250, 2022 base model hoping it will have all the features of UX 200 and more. Very disappointed that it does not have the basic safety features like rear cross traffic alert and automatic breaking. It does not have Rear Camera Detection RCD, Intuitive Parking Assist, Parking Support … Brakes PKSB, It does not have sensors to help parking and basic view on sides, front or rear to tell me if I am too close to an object in front, rear or sides. Very disappointed. I wish I had not blindly trusted Lexus name.

2023 Lexus NX 250 4dr SUV (2.5L 4cyl 8A)
Love the look and comfort of our first SUV. Also find the 2.5 liter engine to be perfect. It lets us merge onto the highway with ease and has been surprisingly good on gas. Unfortunately, there are some serious drawbacks. Our last sedan had a driver’s memory seat. I really wanted to move up to a Lexus so I convinced myself that we could do without this feature. Big mistake on my part! … ……and on Lexus as well. I guess that old saying… “ You don’t know what you’re missing until it’s gone”, is true. Secondly, the back of the SUV gets really dirty. It almost seems to attract dirt. Don’t know why? Anyway, we are not at all happy to dirty our hands every time we put stuff in the trunk. A power tailgate would have been really nice. And speaking of trunk, it is a tad small, but I guess we will manage.
