Great overall SUV, if you want an SUV
I wanted a true SUV and not a crossover, so that pretty much limited my choices to Jeep, Lexus, and Land Rover (I know there are others like the G waggen, but these are the ones I considered). Although I had and loved a Grand Cherokee ZJ limited, I don't really like the size, comfort or look of the modern Grand Cherokee, so that was not an option. I own a land rover Discovery 2, and although I love it, it is not the most reliable car. The newest generation, the new discovery 5, was louder, uglier and felt less comfortable then the GX. The Velar has a nicer dashboard, but no 4Lo or locking differential AND it is a lot smaller. The Range Rover and Range Rover Sport are both more expensive and neither felt all that much more comfortable then the GX (tbh, I think the GX rides better). In addition, it seems that every rover dealership has a few buy backs for sale and my experience with land rover dealerships leaves a lot to desired. So I decided those were not for me. Then there was the GX. Large, strong, dependable, good looking, locking center dif, quiet and comfortable. Is it a sports car? No. But it definitely holds it's own on the highway and up winding mountain roads. It's large enough to haul 4 ( as many as 7) people and a lot of stuff without a worry (both on and off road). Only down sided is that it is NOT fuel efficient. The front seats are not as plush as in my 1995 grand cheorkee limited, but still better than most other SUVs. Now at 20k I can say I haven't had to take the car back to the dealer for any repairs Update: I have 75k miles on it now. Still reliable. Seats not all that comfortable and storage is limited. Other than that, I have no complaints. It does great in snow, mud and gravel. Ok on high. Not very fuel efficient

2017 GX 460
Just purchase 2017 GX 460 brand new from a dealer. car had 2 miles before i test drove it. Previously i was driving 2006 GX470. Let me tell you GX470 i really a luxury SUV and drives the way Lexus should drive. After driving for a week GX460 i started to notice a light vibration in steering wheel which was kind of odd to me since car has only 200 miles. I took it to dealership, they tested it out and stated you wheels are slightly off balance. (ok can happen not a big deal). I picked it up and drove for another day. Same issue plus car is pulling to the right. Called dealer and made appointment again. After evaluation dealer said you alignment is slightly off and performed alignment (very strange to me for a brand new car). After driving another day same issue just car pull to the left. Dealer had my car for 3 days, and when i picked it up dealer states everything is tested and drives better than any new Lexus on a lot. Today i will be returning it again because problem is still there plus navigation can't get calibrated. At least 2 times a week navi is off by good 15 miles. This lexus does not have power to it at all when driving on a street (my 2010 Accord 4cyl if faster than this GX ) plus when you driving it it feels like you riding a horse. THIS IS NOT A CAR THAT LEXUS USED TO MAKE. Save your money and get MB. I can't wait to get out of this car. Now it has only 600 Miles and i got nothing but problems. Lexus stated it drives like it should. VERY BUMPY ride, NOISY and not worth spending 65K. PLEASE DON'T BUY THIS LEXUS UNLESS YOU LOOKING FOR HEADACHE.

2017 Lexus GX 460 LEANING TO RIGHT SIDE !!!
I have a NEW LEXUS GX 460 and it LEANS to the right. Took it to the dealer and they say "it is within Specs". Vehicle leans 1 1/2" to the right passenger side. Lexus refuses to repair it. Feels unsafe to drive it this way. Based on my research this is a known issue with the GX model and Lexus refuses to admit it. Please, everyone who owns a GX 460 check you vehicle for a lean to the right and contact LEXUS. THIS IS unacceptable!!!!. Check NHTSA and you will see there are more that 8 complaints about this issue. Lexus needs to issue a re-call and fix it !!! UPDATE: After a whole year going back and forth with 3 different Lexus Dealer I had to take my vehicle to an independent Toyota mechanic who was ABLE to fix what LEXUS REFUSED to repair even under warranty. It was a very easy fix , took about 1.5 hours and $28 (parts) + $170 ( labor) . Lexus kept denying the existence of the problem and came up with all kinds of nonsense stories how the vehicle "was designed to lean this way" . No vehicle is designed to lean on one side ....well...unless you buy a Lexus GX460 . Toyota / Lexus should be absolutely ashamed of this ! I can still see on the road a lot of GX 460 leaning to one side due to KDSS problems and I'm sure the owners ( if they even noticed the lean) were told the same nonsense stories.

It's a great SUV. It's got plenty of power and feels great on the road.

Lexus deactivated remote start function because customers do not use their APP. This APP charge customer $160/year. This app has a lot of bugs. Winter is very cold. A lot of inexpensive mode cars have this basic function without any fee.

Lack of power a real problem
If you are looking for a car to drive in the mountains this is not the car for you. Poor power and the 6 speed trans is constantly downshifting trying to find a low enough gear to get up steep grades. Sloped floor in the storage area puts everything you carry against the rear door so it falls out when you open the door. Had an '05 GX470 that I loved, this is nowhere near the same car. Lexus customer service would do nothing about my problems with this vehicle so I will be trading it ASAP.

GX 460 Nice Vehicle
We've owned a 2017 GX since Apr '17 and have had no problems. Only had a battery replaced, but that was no issue really. Sure, it is far from perfect, the GX does have old school V8 and 6 speed, which do need updating in some form and of course gas mileage is not good. But we love Lexus quality and reliability. I'm sad for those having problem with vehicle. We also had a 2010 GX and not issues. I'm surprised to hear other owners having issue with pull to one side or vehicle tilting to one side. That has to be suspension problem on their vehicles. Doesn't make sense dealer cannot find the problem. Keep in mind, if you go to dealer 3 times to fix a problem and they do not fix it, use the LEMON LAW actions to get them to take it back. Every state has the LEMON LAW. Document your problem and put the paperwork in.
strong luxury Suv
If you want a SUV, but not a Truck, then you shod consider the GX. I have the luxury model that gives me the option of smooth freeway driving or off road abilities. The people who complain about milage or small comfort items did not do their research before buying. This rig is tough, reliable, and much cheaper to own than those European SUV'S. I like the ability to adjust the suspension, and also have the luxury of a comfortable ride. The GX gives me both. I've owned four Lexus's, this one has been the best.

Know the car to love it!
If the Lexus LX 570 is the King of SUVs, the GX 460 is somewhere between the Queen and His Majesty’s Mother. I spent the last three years agonizing whether I could afford the LX 570 and ended up buying what I thought was a fair compromise between my heart and my head. Surprisingly, I found myself absolutely in love after driving the GX a few hundred miles! Let’s be clear: DO NOT buy this car if your intended use is dropping the kids off to school or going shopping; you could be disappointed. And yes, Lexus could have done better with the placement of the USBs, the dull-but-practical instrumentation gauges, and even the navigation display which was upgraded in all other models but this one. Other than that, if you don’t like the gas mileage, I recommend you buy a hybrid! You feel vibrations? Take your left foot off the brake pedal! Suspension feels wimpy? Take it out of the Comfort mode! The GX 460 is an incredibly luxurious, serious and TRUE Sport Utility Vehicle, which means a car made to get you through places you could not imagine walking, climbing or descending; effortlessly and safely towing significant loads and elegantly taking all abuses a luxury sedan would be crying about. Know the car to love the it!!

Vehicle Leaning to ONE side, Lexus refuses to fix
I purchased a NEW 2017 Lexus GX 460 and the vehicle is leaning to the right (passenger side) .Also feels much softer on that side when turning.Took the vehicle to the dealer 3 times already and they refuse to repair it. The even tried to convince me that it was designed to lean this way !!! Feels unsafe to drive it. This is a known problem on the GX 460 (sold as Landcuiser Prado it the whole world except in US) . Google " Leaning Lexus GX 460 and you will not believe how many owners are effected and Lexus refuses to repair. They know there is a problem but will not admit it. Always the answer is " It is within specs " . Looks and feels ridiculously for a 60K SUV. This vehicle shares the same KDSS as the 4Runner, Landcruiser 200 , Landcruiser Prado and it is a known problem for all. The worst part is how Lexus IS handling the problem !!! All owners of GX 460, please check your vehicle and if it leans to the right take to a Lexus dealer. Absolute disappointment!!! Update: 8 months later Lexus still refuses to repair it. At this point I'm not sure if they don't want to repair it because it is expensive to replace there KDSS, because they don't know how to repair it , or because they don't want to admit they have been lying for so long. I talked multiple times with Lexus corporate and one Case Manager even told me that "it is a characteristic of this vehicle to PULL to the right". He didn't even realize the vehicle was leaning, not puling to the right but came up with a lie right away. I guess that is what they are instructed to say because everyone dealing with this problem throughout the country is getting the same answer: your vehicle is within specs or this is a characteristic of your vehicle. It is sad that the same company "Toyota / Lexus " that builds the legendary Land Cruiser also employs such liars. It is so evident that the vehicle has a Serious suspension problem but Lexus keeps denying it. I would absolutely NOT buy another Lexus from now on !

Lexus Enform does not work.
That fancy tech package that might buy does not work. I bought my GX 460 30 days ago (April 2017). The Enform app is down with no date planned to fix the issues. DO NOT BUY THIS OR ANY LEXUS IF YOU WANT THE APPS TO WORK. Demand that the dealer demonstrate all of the features before you buy. They won't because they can't. It's crap. I have called both the dealer and Lexus. They will not help. Buy the Audi. I wish I had.

Suited for world’s end
I stole this title from a YouTube video I watched before buying one of these. You have to know what this is before buying it. This is an old school vehicle. It is incredibly well built, will handle any weather you can throw at it, and will last forever if you do just basic maintenance. It is not fast, it is not fuel efficient, it does not have the latest tech. But it is a supremely well made machine that will carry you, your family, your boat/toys comfortably and quietly anywhere and back. My father owned 2 of the older LX470 vehicles and they drove just as well with 150k miles on them as when they were new. If you know anything about the GX or any of the other vehicles that come from this Toyota factory, they are built to LAST. You will notice that with everything you touch in this vehicle. It is built to be used hard and still work great many years from now. I really hope that Lexus does not discontinue this product as I would love to buy an updated one that still uses the same body on frame robust build quality, while perhaps taking the chance to add some modern features that this vehicle is lacking.

2015 lexus gx460 leaning to passenger side
I have 2015 Lexus Gx460 that is at the shop for leaning to passenger side. When you drive the car sometimes it feels like the car have the front flat tire and it’s not. The car by it self is lowered one left side i mean the hood is lower to the groun than the right side. Took it to dealership and they everything is by specs. Even it does show when u measures with tape measure from ground to the fender one side is lower then the other one for like a inch. Not satisfied with that.

2017 GX Premium- Baby Land Cruiser
Looked for years at buying a land cruiser or 4 runner. Ended up buying a certified used GX. Great value for a low mileage vehicle that is warrantied for the next 2.5 years with unlimited mileage. Absolutely love the look and feel of this truck. V8 is music to my ears and the build quality is excellent. I feel like I’m driving a mini tank that can handle just about anything. Tech isn’t great but good enough for me. I’m getting around 20mpg combined which isn’t bad for a vehicle of this weight. Wish it took regular gas vs premium but not a big deal.

Iconic quality and pedigree
I love the interior. Handsome and uncluttered, the feeling is warm and conservative-not boring. The technology is now old but it works and it is not fussy and reliable. AC is awesome. Ride is firm and body jumps in rippled roads. Roomy interior but 3rd row is tight and makes cargo room useless. Engine is strong, smooth and powerful. But it is slow to develop the power. Paint and body is best Ive owned! I love this car and my dealership!

Dont do it
Rides like a farm tractor, transmission seal failed at 30k miles replaced under warranty thankfully, also the steering wheel rattled like crazy and lexus claimed this was “normal”. Its also slow and with bad gas mileage. Was really bummed out. Couldn’t wait to get rid of it. There are much better options just do not buy this one.

True SUV with real off-road capabilities
Far and above more reliable than a Land Rover / Range Rover, BMW or MB with resale that is legendary. If you get the Luxury Package, you get it all. Sure it does not ride like a RX but it is a body-on-frame and has a real V8, AWD and air suspension for heavy loads. I like this so much that I bought another for myself as the other is my wife’s. The build quality is extremely high and it is very quiet but plenty quick. On a road-trip to the mountains, it got 20.7 mph with 4 people and full of luggage - almost 9 mpg better than my last vehicle. Be sure to get the Luxury model as it will come with real leather, go black if you want it to age well and not show dirt. At 83k miles, only routine maintenance and scheduled maintenance have been done. Still runs flawlessly. Still love it after 5+ years.

Disappointed
After having technology issues with another brand my husband decided to spoil me and got me a brand new one with 2 miles on it! He is always around Lexus products I never has really had any problems with them, until this one! From technology issues with phone syncing, voice recognition issues, navigation map issues, to excessive bouncing rough vibrations from front right end, constantly having tires balanced, road force, even had to have my Michelin tires replaced sooner than normal because they wore out before their time, bad tires. New tires still have the balance tires constantly, check alignment, extremely bumpy ride all the time they keep saying it’s normal for the type of platform a four-wheel-drive that it is. But yet I can get into other vehicles of theirs that are loaners that are of the same model and they ride smooth as a baby’s a.. Camera issues with the screen freezing or slow to switch back to normal screen they can’t figure out the problem says everything checks out normal no codes. I have had to have the brain replaced in it. And still have the same problems and more new problems. I feel terrible complaining to my husband about it because we spent a lot of money on this one and it’s nothing but a headache. And if it wasn’t so much work to file a lemon law soon I would’ve done it already and still may it’s just so much work!!

With the third row seats up, you have limited cargo space. Storage is limited
Real SUV
My first GX was a 2011 which I bought when it was 5 years old. I traded it at 170k and bought a CPO 2017 GX luxury package with 30k. I currently have 66k on it and love it more as time goes by. The ONE issue I have is the kdss system. It failed on my 2011 and the repair bill was 6k. I decided to trade at that time. My current 2017 is warranted until 100k so I’m nervous about keeping it longer than that and risk another kdss failure. I live in New England where they salt the roads heavily in the winter, which I’ve been told can contribute to the kdss failing prematurely. I’m looking at BMWx5 and Infiniti QX80 but honestly I just love my GX.

Wife’s mall crawlin overlander.
This has been an awesome vehicle in the last 4 years of ownership. We bought the sport edition that had captain chairs in the middle row, front and rear lower spoiler, gray rims, and the non chrome tail lights. We have had zero mechanical issues since ownership and stay up to date on maintenance. We did install a small lift kit and all terrain tires so it actually looks like a SUV that can tackle the curbs at my wife’s work. Fuel mileage is only around 11-12 in town and about 16 on the highway. Mileage prior was only 19 n the highway and it supposedly needs premium fuel. Con’s are the outdated interior which Toyota always seems to do.

Almost to 50k miles, long road trips, snow, dirt, hit a possum, hit a road sign. Still looks great. Beer bongs has but it’s kind of magic. Road trips are absolutely sublime.
