This vehicle handles well on the highway it has a kick during take off. I'm happy with the space I tend to let others drive and ride in the back. It also does good under cold conditions the engine remains quiet and warms up quickly. Overall I'm happy with my decision. By the way it has a nice sound system. The navigation is pretty accurate for the most part.

I bought this Lexus online with 51,000 miles as a lease turn-in for my wife. It is even better than expected. The interior was nearly flawless with the most supple leather seats I have ever sat in. I read numerous reviews saying it lacked power, but I have not found that to be true. It was made to be a luxury vehicle, not a fast sports car. The ride is smooth and quiet. It is very different from her last 1993 ES 300 that had over 215,000 miles.

The ES300 has been a very high quality and reliable automobile requiring very few repairs above and beyond the required scheduled maintenance. This vehicle gets decent gas mileage and generally averages about 21-23 mpg, and also has a very quiet and comfortable ride. However, I would be remiss if I didn't mention that this specific model has a slight hesitation in acceleration that the dealership was unable to correct. The automobile also has a fairly fragile paint job that scratches easily and is susceptible to rock chips. Reading the center console displays of radio/CD and heating/AC settings can be difficult when wearing polarized sunglasses.

Bought the car new in 2003. Got a very good deal. Have put 150K miles on it. The last trip averaged 27-30 mpg. No major problems. The trans does still act funny every once in a while like most ES-300's. I noticed a lot of people had problems with the rear door window. I've replaced the switch twice. It still rides like new and looks it. The value is around $10K. I wouldn't sell it for $15K

I purchased this car used, 6 model years old and 69,000 miles. It is very comfortable to drive on extended trips, smooth, quiet, soft leather seats, and a high quality sound system. It has soft and smooth handling, as its designed as a luxury sedan, not a sports sedan. My only problems have been a pair of new catalytic converters(warranty) and after replacing a rear window, the automatic switch is off so I need to manually stop it on the way up. I will definitely look at Lexus when my wife's Avalon needs replacing someday. This one will stay in the family for the rest of its lifespan.

You have to understand the Lexus ES300 is the first non-American car I've ever purchased, so I may not be the best judge. Nonetheless, it is clearly the best car I have ever owned. I traded in a Buick I thought I loved and have never regretted it. I also test drove a Mercedes, a BMW, an Acura, a Cadillac CS and a Lincoln LS. In the end I still bought the Lexus. The ONLY thing I can say that the others had over the Lexus is exterior design. The Mercedes and BMW are "classier' looking and the Cadillac is just more interesting looking.

I’ve had this car about 9 years and about 230,000 miles on. I will admit, I am a horrible car owner I forget to do oil changes etc etc. and this car has NEVER left me stranded. It’s honestly a great car. I’ve thought about getting a new car so many times but this car feels like it has so many years left. I will definitely be getting another Lexus when that time comes.

When a car is rated as the top selling Lexus for the past 15 years there gotta be some serious reasons for that. After owning SC300 I needed a 4 doors so best reviews went to the ES300 and its bigger sister ES330.GS had mixed reviews, I hate the IS, I can't afford an LS and I don't like an RX SUVs.Don't listen to those who say that the ES300 is a glorified Camry, they probably never drove a Lexus. You will see the build quality in every single piece of interior, the sound the hood, trunk and door latch locks. And NO, these interior wood are not fake, Lexus doesn't use fake woods in its interiors. I have some suggested improvements below (not a deal breaker though, guess I just got spoiled).

I bought this car after my 1994 ES300 transmission quit going into overdrive & couldn't be fixed. But I had nearly 175K miles on that one so couldn't really complain much about that. I have not had any of the problems with the 2003 transmission that others have written about in their reviews. I did look at some other cars before getting this one - none of them compared to a Lexus. Guess the 94 spoiled me for any other car (that I can afford, lol).

Struggled with our choices upgrading from Maxima SE. Owned miriad of sedans (Avalon, Accord, Camry, Legend) liked move towards sporty sedans. Wanted to stay sporty - looked long and hard at the Infiniti G35; it was sporty and roomy. Unfortunately, build quality was not up-to-par and Infiniti does not have the Lexus reputation (yet). We decided to put our "driver enthusiast/performance" mindset on the shelf for now and go with the undisputed champion of the near-luxury class, the ES300. So far, we've not been disappointed.

I purchased the car at 6 years old with 69000 miles so someone else took the depreciation hit. Very nice car for the price. Smooth and quiet ride, and lots of amenities. Its not a sports car, but was not designed as one. It has a lot of the features of the Lexus LS without the price tag. Very dependable car. Catalytic converters needed replacement but were covered under warranty. Lexus dealership was outstanding on the repair. One window switch issue, automatic function does not work right after the window needed replacement, but not sure if it is a switch problem or an installation problem. After 4 GM cars and one Dodge, wife's 2003 Avalon and this ES 300, I am sold on Toyota.

I have a mixed take on the 2003 ES I owned for five years. First the good, the car is very luxurious and comfortable. The powertrain is not the strongest but it is smooth. The car is also very quiet as well. Sadly several issues made my time with this car stressful. First I had to replace the battery and alternator. Had to do an entire overhaul of the brakes for $1000. Then the check engine light came on signaling had catalytic converter which would be another $1000 or more. Then the air conditioning stopped working first on the driver side and then for the rest of the car too. Another $1500 spent there. Not fun. Then the driver side door lock wouldn’t work with the remote. Had to use key to manually unlock. I was finally fed up with this money pit and traded it in for a 2008 Avalon. I was expecting a lot more than what I got so overall I rate this car somewhat in the middle

We have been looking at a mid-size car to replace our Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. We started looking at the Lexus ES300 after looking at a Toyota Avalon. The quality and value that you receive in this Lexus is second to none. The safety equipment is what primarily sold us on this car and then the build quality is what caught our eye. The dealer has been great to work with as well.

This is the 18th car of my life. Previous car was Toyota Camry - sold after 9 years and 292,000 miles. This Lexus is better and I expect to keep it a full ten years. Reported mileage by Edmunds is too low. Without Ethanol mix I typically get 34 MPG highway at 65 MPH and 26 MPG city. This car is almost six years old and looks and rides like it's brand new. Lexus service is unbelievably efficient - you get spoiled real fast.

Bought the ES300 with 6 years and 36,000 miles on it. It was essentially as good as new, as it had been maintained by a Lexus dealership and driven less than 6,000 miles a year. I've driven it 12,000 miles in the first year and it has been just like the first year of a new car. No troubles at all. Flawless. A superbly built and engineered car, it does everything well and smoothly. I have noticed slight "hiccups" in the transmission but is hard to tell the conditions that create it. It happens about every 100 miles or so. Power is more than adequate but it's not a muscle car by any stretch. The local Lexus dealer service dept. advised me I will need to replace the engine mounts at 60,000K.

Traded in my 99 Lx470, which I loved, for a 2003 ES 300 in 2006...50,000 miles. I never thought I'd go back to a car but with gas prices on the rise and the amount of miles I drive I decided I would. I have now had my car for 24 months and not one problem. It currently has 121,000 miles on it and drives perfect just like the day I got it. Very pleased of course, as I was also very please with my LX470 before this vehicle. Gas mileage is great, 23 average in town, upper 20s-31 mpg on highway. Highly recommended :)

Basically I'm very pleased with this car. The only thing that bother me is the new 5 speed transmission. Here's a brief example of what I mean: If I drive about 35mph and then slow down to about 5mph and than try to accelerate there is a hesitation. It's as if the transmission can not decide on what gear to go into. When it finally does there's a slight lurch forward. One other thing is a rattle that happened in the right rear. The dealer had to remove the rear door panels and do something to the insulation to correct it. There was a service bulletin about this problem. I didn't expect that on a brand new Lexus!

Smooth, beautiful interior, reliable, extremely quiet. Best looking entry level luxury. Wish it used regular not premium fuel. Brakes are good, handling sufficient - no problems and dealership has been very professional. Liked it better than the Acura TL Type S and the G35. BMW 3 series too small and pricey.

Just got back from Florida... Round trip mileage 27.5 mpg Comfortable in all aspects. Not a single problem.. For those who say it is underpowered I had it at 120 mph level ground without a downshift.. Extreme hill climb 90 mph before downshift.. How much power do you want... Consider it uses unleaded regular and not premium like the competition and you're ahead of the game.. Love this car to no end!!!

My Lexus knows the way to the shop and is not an extrordinary vehicle. I find the shop people nice and the service good but the vehicle should not have the brake, rattle and engine surging problems I have experienced in just one year. The really BIG surprise was the 15,000 mile check for almost $500.00, to check it over. WOW! This is my last Lexus.

One of the better built automobiles. It is very reliable. Only two negatives. One is gas mileage. I get better mileage in my SL500 MB which has more hp, is 700 lbs heavier and has a V8. The second negative is the rear power windows (sometimes one works and the other has stopped working). This car is one of the most comfortable cars to drive.

My first luxury car purchase, used of course so someone else can take the depreciation hit, and I don't think I can ever go back to another less comfortable car. It is very quiet with an incredibly smooth ride. The cabin is classy, with high grade leather and wood grain accents. The steering and handling can best be described as silky. Keep in mind this is a luxury car, not a sports sedan, so it doesn't drive like a sports sedan. Highway mileage is 28 to 32 mpg, depending on speed and head wind. I had some warranty work done, (catalytic converters btw) and was VERY impressed by the Lexus dealer's service. 83,000 miles and appears as good as new. I will definitely look into a Lexus again.

We have owned this car for 3 weeks and have been pleased so far. We drove a BMW330i, Audi A4 and a Volkswagen Passat before buying the Lexus.Sitting in the Lexus for the first time, my wife and I looked at each other and said "wow, this is nice". Driving, the ES was serenly quiet, the Mark Levinson stereo and Nav system are great. What sold me more than anything on this car was the dealership experience. They were even going to deliver the car to our house and pick up the Acura we were trading in.....and we live 60 miles from the dealership.

This car has the mushiest transmission shift I have ever experienced. The car lags annoyingly when attempting to accelerate for passing at highway speeds, and never seems to select the appropriate gear for optimum performance. The fit, finish and luxury of the car are beyond reproach. Unfortunately, driving pleasure is marred by the transmission characteristics for which Lexus has no cure. I've had two Mercedes sedans recently and the ES300 just doesn't measure up to the performance standards set by the Benz's.

This vehicle has exceeded our expectations in all arenas. We have put over 6000 miles on it in 3 months. It has had zero defects. On acceleration, it has more than enough power for us. We drive 70 miles per day on the interstate and it makes the drive seem short. On long trips, it has gotten 28 to 30 mpg. In town 25 mpg.

Came with bad tires out alienment. Turn lamp fell off. Floats on the road. Low to the ground getting in and out. Cruise control terrible, it down shifts and charges when going up the slightest incline. Will not return to set speed on cruise if you come to a stop or slow way down, you have to reset everytime you hit your brakes. Hoped I would like the car but I don't. Back seating cramped for leg. Air to back seat is poor. Windshield is sloped and causes extreme heat entrance into the car, Sunvisor has a light switch that should be automatic. The passenger has to hit the button in the backseat to unlock each door everytime if the passsenger wants out.

The leather, wood, and soft materials are gorgeous. I especially like the alluminum skuff plates and the intricate interior lighting at night. The exterior fit and finish is perfect, unlike my mother's 2002 Camry. Both cars, however, have had their fair share of rattles and squeaks. I'll admit that there are definitely transmission shudders, but my 99 Solara exhibited the same characteristics. Whatever reviewer claims the noise levels are too high is nuts. If you don't need the extra warranty, the FANCY interior, or the extra soundproofing, save and get a LE V6 Camry. Overall, a solid best buy in the class.

Coming from a sporty sedan background I was ready to jump into the "cushy" car catagory. Was it worth it? Most definetely! This car lets me forget my troubles with its smooth and quiet ride. After sitting on hard chairs all day I really enjoy the leather recliner- like feel in the driver's seat. I turn on my Mark Levison stereo and I am transcended into another world. Handeling has been awesome these last few snowey weeks. Handles as well as my daughter's all-wheel drive Passat. My smile just gets wider! I don't need a gas chomping, SUV tank to haul my 2 kids around. They fit nicely in my back seat.

I have owned a somewhat basic ES300 for a year and love the vehicle. Opted only for leather & five CD changer, this package is dealer standard for this area. Fit and finish is superb and dealer experience is the best I have ever experienced. Previous cars: Porsche, Alfa, Camero, Maxima and a few dogs, this is the best! Now that the engine is broken in, power is enough to impress me. Maxima was quicker off the mark but not worth the rough edges and reliability issues.

Overall, I love the car. It's a luxury car so I can't complain too much that it doesn't take off from a red light the way I would like. But after getting started, it really moves. I was warned that the Lexus could be a little noisy, but to me it's not unbearable.

Instead of the X-Type

I was deciding between the X-Type Jag and the ES300, glad I chose the ES. The Jag was nicer looking outside but that is it. The Lexus has all the amenities that one could want in a luxury sedan. Granted if performance is what you are after it is not the best choice. But hey, If I wanted performance I'd get a Porsche right? I love this car, and better yet my wife does too!

First Lexus still remembering my Benz

First Lexus. I looked at all of the competition:Mercedes,Jaguar,BMW,Audi and Volvo. After owning a Benz my 1st thought was to get another one. After reading some reviews on Edmunds, I decided against it. As for the Lexus, good car but a little dull. I love the interior and the navigation and the overall space. I still havent gotten used to the exterior styling, the headlights in particular. I have had squeaks, rattles and a thumping sound in the trunk during initial acceleration. Turns out the dealer has been getting this complaint. Problem is when the gas tank is full, the fuel swishes and makes a pounding sound. Reliable, but vanilla.

Beautiful car inside and out. Good amount off the sticker price these days too. I was able to get even lower than tmv. Absolutely the most gorgeous car for the price. especially the interior with leather and wood that is unsurpassed in its class.

I really like the car, but one option that should be added - stereo controls on the steering wheel. Have only driven about 100 miles so i'm sure there's more to check out.

This is my third ES-300 and I have found all of them to be of excellent quality, reliable with above average dealer support.

Had this car 2 months and already 4700 trouble free miles. Really like the quite and luxurious interior. Driving the Lexus 300 and my wife's Chrysler M300 is no comparision. The Lexus is sooooo quite, hardly any road noise. Ride and handles great. The navigation system and the Mark Levinson sound system are great features and work and sound great.

I hardly expected the quality of build that is shown in this car. It is excellent. The V-6 is plenty quick enough for entering short on ramps to the expressway, and it handles well. One has to remember, this is a luxury car, not a Vette! So far, it is the best car I have ever owned out of the 30 or so I have had.
