Mechanical issues, gas consumption, start stop

Erin H, 01/25/2020

I have a 2020 Evoque, and the biggest problem is an engine noise that the dealership has attempted to fix 3 times and can’t. Sounds like a 20 year old car. No response from corporate for this official lemon. The start stop issues like other reviewers mention is also aggravating. Bluetooth disconnects every time the car is turned back on and I have to manually reconnect. And this one- the steer assist jerks me out of merging into a lane I’m intending to merge into- even when I use my turn signal like the dealer advised when I informed them of this scary and dangerous issue.

It's a lemon :(

M Wills, 09/08/2020

I dreamed of owning a Range Rover, I even waited to get the 2020 evoque due to the new body shape and interior. Well it's a lemon, the most unreliable car I've ever had (and I've had lots of cars!) It's now 11 months old and it's spent about a month of that in the repair shop. Coolant went, suspension clips wore out, onboard computer has crashed 4 times and made the car unsafe, it started deselecting it's gear when I was stationary, the screens get stuck and it disconnects from my phone on a daily basis. It's also terrible to drive, the lag on the powertrain is dangerous, I want to pull out into traffic and yet the car responds so slowly that it makes it unsafe to do so. The unresponsiveness is horrendous. So yes it's pretty to look at but it's awful to drive and spends most of it's life in the repair shop. Do not buy one :(

I've had so many issues with this vehicle that the dealership (LR Cleveland) actually threw me out and banned me from the dealership because they couldn't and no longer wanted to try service the car. This vehicle is not only unsafe to drive, but it is also falling apart.

Though this car looks great.... it is extremely unsafe! The auto start stop ECO mode is very unsafe. The engine goes off, you attempt to enter traffic and the car does NOT respond... then you push the gas harder and the car lunges forward... you're not expecting it! I've been in numerous situations due to the hilly terrain of Western Pennsylvania, where I've been in the car, waiting to merge into traffic (with my children in the car) and the car doesn't respond and when it does, it's a driving hazard as on-coming cars are too close. The engine hesitation even occurs when I manually turn off the ECO mode (which I HAVE to do every time I start the car) I'm so very disappointed with this vehicle. I've reached out to Land Rover. The customer service has been less than satisfactory and no resolution has been met.

Blew away by the Evoque

Very adept road and in town street handling vehicle... Feels glued to the road and brakes are phenomenal. You can turn the stop/start mode for idling at stop signs on or off with a Simple button you push on the dash... Similar to other Range Rovers...Apple Car Play works nicely and car can be set up as a WiFi hotspot... When using navigation for directions, radio or media automatically go quiet while Navigation voice instructions are being given then return. There is a big load of features on this vehicle and it takes some time to program the vehicle and get it set the way you want and/or understand how to use them... The double touch screen dash is Awesome... You can have the Nav system up and running on one screen and on the other it will be showing album cover of song playing for instance, or cabin comfort controls.. One nice touch is the full size spare in our model... Not a big fan of the can of flat fix in most other vehicle. The rear camera in the rearview mirror feature is incredible for rearward viewing when driving... Works very well... Biggest drawback so far is learning all the features of the HSE model and how to use them... Most of the programming is very intuitive, but some is not... Interior is clone of the higher bracket RR Velar. So far a real fun car to drive... Plenty of zip and gas use is acceptable... The car has been trouble free since we took delivery with only minor routine maintenance like changing oil etc.

Most fascinating luxury Suv in the market

One of the best designs in the category (Compact Suv). Extremely silent on the road and really comfortable. Size perfectly fits the most common park spaces. Easy to drive and its luxury finishings mixed to Lcd screens makes this car special. Weak points: fuel consumption its not the best in high traffic roads. The gear is comfortable for trips but not fast. Price is not competitive and many useful accessories remain an expensive extra. High points: Luxury finishings, silent, comfortable and great and classic design that will last for years.

X3/5 G3/5 are in trouble

I was looking seriously at buying either a BMW X3 or 5 or Audi G3 or 5, possibly a Tiguan... Almost opted for the G3, when a friend suggested I take a look at the new Evoque... Took a test drive and it was no contest... The Evoque is in the driveway now. Great interior fit and finish and the two touch screens are great. You have complete control of vehicle dynamics, even things like start-stop in Eco mode... If you don't want it, you can turn it off and it has a nifty garage door opener in the rearview mirror along with a new killer feature of simply clicking the knob on the mirror and you get rear time video from behind the car at all times!!! And I got a laugh when the LR dealer answered my question about the self parking feature and he said LR had been installing it for about 5 years now in various models.. The BMW guy told me their self parking feature was new and cutting edge and no one had it.... Hmmmm. One reason he lost the sale. Great engine and transmission, very smooth and lots of pep... A real joy to drive and it feels like it is part of the highway it handles to well. And it sounds and feels much more solid then either of the German products which when closing the doors sounded rather "tinny". Not so on the Evoque. Good old fashioned solid "chunk"... I guess the Germans lost this one to the Brits again....

Engine start and off option sucks, you can’t turn it off because of the law, but it’s very jumpy, especially over hills and slanted streets. The suspension for my car makes noise, especially after driving for 30 mins. It sounds like there is rocks underneath the car’s tires, contacted the dealer, they drove my car for 300 miles and said there was no noise. I have it on camera that makes noise. Lastly, the audio system is a complete joke.

Car is beautiful but we have had 2 major recalls within the year. First one was that the car would randomly shut down in the middle of driving. Second recall was for the car rattling under the hood. There is also no fix for a new issue where there is no audio for ANY GPS apps such as waze, google or apple. Corporate said it's a known issue for the past few months and they still don't have a fix for it or an ETA.

I bought a 2020 plate Land Rover dynamic S I’ve had ongoing issues with my car with lack of power loud engine noise - dashboard goes blank… the list goes on I’m utterly disappointed with the level of service from LR they keep claiming there isn’t a problem with my car … my car sticks in gear … engine wouldn’t start for 40 mins had to get a stranger to help me …. This is my third car from Land Rover all with technical issues which never ends I’m really exhausted my car has been in around 10 times or more since 2020 … I won’t be buying any more cars from LR my satnav sends you in a circle ⭕️ twice This car is beginning to affect my daily life it needs to go back to the dealership again … I’m fed up and tired …. The car is a totally nightmare…,,, you will be very lucky to own one and not experience faults This car has a shabby performance at times it’s like I’m driving an old car It’s really sad… LR needs to address the problems customers are having and be honest These are expensive car customers are purchasing from the main dealerships.

(1st) Auto-Stop/Start technology automatically shuts the engine off when the vehicle comes to a full stop, and then starts it again.. but when it starts again, it makes car ignition sound on every stops,, it is annoying so much..and it is unable to turn off this by default (2nd) most electrical response is slow, initial app opening, adaptive cruise control, parking mode sensor is activated after car parked, android auto has connection issue, and radio is turning on automatically after android auto is stopped.. (3rd) I didn't expect the garage door opener was option. no one told me about this. Landrover said the missed homelink, 'Unfortunately this option is not available for your model' So far, It doesn't feel safe. I want to return if it is possible

Test drove the Volvo xc40. Sounded very tinny. Test drove the evoque, very smooth and quiet. They don’t use foam insulation for noise. Reports say engine underpowered, I don’t see that. They say transmission slow to respond, don’t see that either. Looks great inside and out. Have 600 miles on it so can’t comment on reliability yet. Driving it is fun.

Wife loves this and we’d been looking for a small size SUV that still had an upscale feel and all the features. The Evoque is hands down better than the Audi Q3/5 or the BMW X3/5 in terms of design, panache, and overall package. Great driving car and very easy to maneuver in right spots around town.

We bought this because my wife really wanted it . I was trying to convince my wife to buy the Kia telluride which we took four a test drive. It was so much better . Telluride's quality, ride ,electronics, comfort and room we're definitely nicer and a little less money fully optioned out. But she is a brand snob so I lost. We'll see about its reliability according to past models it's rated poor. Do yourself a favor and test drive other SUVs before buying this and you'll see it's an overpriced mediocre SUV.

Dream car turned into a NIGHTMARE!

I fell in love with the 2020 Evoque as soon as I got an email from Land Rover with a preview of it. I had a 2013 Evoque, with over 100,000 miles on it that I had NO issues with. When Land Rover offered the zero percent interest rate, I traded my 2013 in and got my dream car. Unfortunately, it has been a total nightmare. The first year the car was fine, then all of a sudden at around 12,000 miles or so, it began having serious issues. It was at the dealership for 4 months last year. It has been back for repairs multiple times since. In fact, they have had it there since June. I have no idea when I will get it back. The dealership has been great about coming to get it and giving me loaner vehicles, but the corporate office in NJ refused to buy it back. They could care less about what we have been going through. I am so mad at myself for trading in my 2013.

I was taken in by the beauty of this car and the advertisements showing the Land Rovers traversing the mountainsides and barreling through streams. Just 30K miles in and the car needed total front electrical harness replacement. From the start, gremlins were present in the heating & a/c, temperature controls...the windshield seal failed and balance issues & tire pressure issues prevail after four months in the shop. I wish I knew how unreliable Evoques are before purchasing one. If you want to know the real scoop, just ask a maintenance department supervisor for a Land Rover Dealership. I will from here on be a Land Rover admirer, but never again a buyer!!

Every issue and problem that other reviewers have written, i have experienced the same problems. Mine has been in the dealer for service fees multiple times and my car was at the dealer for over a total if 6 weeks in the first year alone. When I finally had enough, I called Land Rover National HQ to complain and was told they would open a formal case file and get back to me quickly with an offer of resolution. I never recieved a call back and I tried to contact them over several weeks with no success and no return calls. Paying for a car that you cant drive and is unsafe and unreliable sucks. Never ever buying another Range Rover.

The Evoque 2020 2300km looks great and handles well. Lots of power absolutely no slouch. What ruins the entire package: Engine knock, sounds like a used Ford. I am told by the garage this is normal. What fuel economy, 1000m equals 3 tanks of gas. Drivers seats absolutely has no support, ouch my back. Car looks great and handles well but why would you offer a luxury vehicle with all these known faults. Drove a Lexus NX 200 T before and even though the car is extremely BORING it is hands down better engine quality. 60000 km spent only on oil and filter, couldn't wear out the tires or brake pads. Whisper quiet. BTW 2 litre engine with turbo similar to what's in the Evoque!!! Why? Range rover has a beautiful vehicle why would they not make sure the engine is a quality build. I don't get it. Oh and BTW my friend picked up his 2020 Evoque 1 week after me and he us having similar issues. We hace had our vehicles 2 months!!!! WHY IN 2020 a manufacture like Range Rover can't get it right? An absolute shame.

We rent this car in Florida while on 10 days vacation. We own 2019 X3, so out of “upscale” SUVs there were this LR which I never drove, so we decided to give a try. Pros: quick respond from 2.0L turbo engine, almost no turbo lag. Easy to park, good for large city driving. Cons: Suspension rattle very bad, worth in rear like something failing off. When braking from above 30-35 ml/h, transmission keep trying to stay on gear and at the stop it makes laud bang (scary). Trunk space “none existing” (two 22” CareOne’s and backpack. Very tiny rear window. Never thought that car with less than 20K mls can be in this kind of shape. Prior I rented “none upscale” SUVs like Tahoe, Murano, Edge. Even Dodge Journey was better vehicle than this Land Rover.

I love my Evoque! RR are the ultimate 4x4 and that’s why I purchased one ! The 4x4 outclasses all the other small SUVs without a doubt . If you don’t intend to use it for off roading and some snow drifting then you probably shouldn’t get one!

Worst purchase I have ever made. I have been to the shop more times in one year with Land Rover than I have in the 12 years I was with Lexus. Suspension issues, car constantly jerks, its shut off I don't know how many times. Every time I take it in...oh the computer needs an update or we cant replicate what happened. Customer service is useless and I cant wait until my lease is over. Never again.

Windshields Majorly Leak!

HV, 02/05/2023

DO NOT PURCHASE THIS VEHICLE. There is a windshield defect with Range Rover Evoques made from 2015 through at least 2020. After a few years of owing this car, the windshield becomes unsealed and rain water comes flooding into the vehicle. This can cause major issues - electrical issues, rust, corrosion, mold, mildew. Dealers will replace the windshield and send you on your way. Fixing the windshield is not the answer because the water can do major damage inside. Jaguar Land Rover needs to fix this problem during the manufacturing process and they have not done that. DO NOT BUY A RANGE ROVER EVOQUE.

With bad reviews all over the net would anyone spend 35k on an Evoque and then slate it in a review apparently yes to that.. My Evoque is 3yrs old everything works flawlessly and it’s safe.. engine stops at T junctions then foot of brake then starts then you can hold it with brake with engine running to enter traffic quickly and safely, mine is the D180 so if that’s not fast enough you’ve bought the wrong engine I get 43mpg so if you can’t then you should have bought the D180, never have any missed gearshifts, seats heat up within 2 minutes lumber support is excellent, sound system excellent, head up display shows sat nav junctions, infotainment system is quick to respond, lane keep has on off button on steering wheel so enough said there, has very impressive quick B road handling, every single thing works as it should, I could go on & on

Leaky Roof

After experiencing the Evoque model for 8 years now, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. The 1st Evoque I had was a 2016 lease, and it had a leaky roof on the d4iver side. The 2nd Evoque (a purchased car) is a 2020 SUV with a leaky roof on the passenger side. Meanwhile, the car barely has 21,000 miles on it. So, depressing!

I understood that Land Rover was a good car, but I did NOT buy the most luxurious evoque and we began to notice that it sounded strange. and on the way to work he turned off at the traffic light. I called the diler for service but they only answered me to ask for the monthly payment, therefore I had to go to work and my wife came to stay with the problem. I DO NOT recommend it has overheating and electrical problems.
