Big enough for the Big Guys
When I first saw the Soul, i loved the appearance of the vehicle, but i was also concerned as i fail to fit in most Kia's and i assumed this would be the case again. I test drove one and found that there was plenty of space for a big guy who loves being a big guy...as a 6'4" 415 lb ex-linebacker, fitment is a challenge for most cars, but since i drive over 20000 miles a year economy is a must. So far gas mileage is good at 28 mpg, considering i set my cruise on 72mph with the windows down and the sunroof open. This is my third Kia and the engines are always very tight for the first 12000 miles, after that they loosen up and the gas mileage gets even better. its a great little car.
Don't buy this car.
I think Kia thought that people would buy this car just for its styling. Well I bought it just for that reason and I couldn't have been more dissapointed. The fuel economy isn't what they say it is, I get 15mpg in the city. I don't know how this could possibly be. The interior and exterior are amazing but, the interior material quality is dismal at best. The ride is jumpy and jolty and no fun at all. I thought that since I got the sport model with the manuel it would be fun but, I was sadly mistaken. The stick shifter is mushy and un precise. Also, just from the poor quality of materials I don't bealive this car is going to last me that long at all.
rental blues
my van was hit while parked. thought i would try a soul rental. driven it for two months, now. the worst car i have ever driven; hard flat seats, hard painful ride, noisy 2 liter engine. one of the ugliest cars on the road. good space and headroom inside, although not up to the standard of the competition, as i have read.
Good Little car
Be easy on the automatic transmisson
- Safety

Not so happy with that
Blinker does not turn off after turning, overdrive & interior lights not connected when purchased, bumper clips broken so bumper is falling off, brakes locked up and burned out brakes. Dealership does not know how to balance tires and claimed I was in accident that is why clips broke, but no front end damage. Like some features, but others not so much. Gas mileage not what they claimed either.
Love It
I've had my Kia Soul since April and absolutely love it. I've driven from Toronto to Nfld eastern U.S. and back not one issue. So far has been as reliable as my last Kia (05 Spectra) I've also discovered that the rear stow and go (being made of hard foam) makes a perfect cooler when traveling. Just throw in some ice packs, drinks and your set or a couple of days!! Very versatile car great in the city and long drives. Hae not experienced any issues with highway noise. Lots of great extras for the price. My only 1 bug is with the Front seatbelts. They release quickly & if not carful will cause small scratches to the plastic on the doors. I know I'll enjoy this car for many years to come.
Great for the $ - you will love it
I was going to wait til I had at least 1000 miles on the odometer, but couldn't wait. As a 53 yr old woman, this is my first non-American made auto...better warranty, price and style than anything else around for the money! I should have bought two!! I was hooked on the Alien, was able to get a great price, including the sunroof/fog lamps. It's my "little mean green machine" So far, after 7 days, it's great for what it is. Fits the very tall to the overwide comfortably. This may be for the younger crowd, but there were more people my age buying the Soul!!
Fell in Love before I even bought it....
I saw this car online and I fell in love with it before I even test drove it. I have driven few cars in the past and I don't believe in spending too much money for a car. This car meets all my demand, great design, great car, great mileage, great features, great safety features...can't beat the airbags in this car. I never thought I would buy a box car but the Soul won me over. I never liked the Scion and the new Nissan Cube is too ugly to even mention. I bought my car a month ago and I have nothing to complain about. For the features and the great price.....this car can not be beat. I had to drive 3 hours to get the car and it was more than worth it.
It is, what it is
Bought mine a month ago. Scores hi marks as to value. Lot of features for the money. Real good build quality considering the low price. Easy and fun to drive. The car has good visibility and you can park it anywhere. Good ground clearance, has lots of room for driver and passengers. If you are looking for lots of cargo space with room for 4 pass., this might not work for you-I rarely have rear seat passengers- folding down the rear seats works for me. Don't confuse the phrase "fun to drive" to imply that this is a performance vehicle--it's not. The Soul is a capable people mover-fun to drive, with a good amt of features, and when considering the price, should put a smile on your face.
Soul is a Plus
I've had my soul + a week. 2.0L automatic has enough pep for me, but then I've never been a gunner. I really like the vision I have when driving this vehicle. The seat is as high as many of the mid-level SUVs. More space than most of the Japanese wagons/cross-overs in it's price range. I would have like to had saved $$$ off the MSRP; but they wouldn't budge. Not a good buying experience; but I'm enjoying the car.
The eye catcher
It is great car very fun to drive and a lot of features for the price. I get compliments all the time and even invitations for dinner just to be able to get a ride in my SOul...lol...Great car....way to go Kia...you made it big this time. For those that are interested on joining a Soul group you can visit the brand new www.kiasoulclub.com
great car
I have to admit - I'm very pleasantly surprised. Exterior is cute, inside is perfectly built for both a small person like me and my much taller husband. Seats are comfortable and roomy. The car handles very well, very responsive to stops and turns. Lots of room in the back. It's a big hit with my teenagers - from the cute design to the speakers that flash to the beat of the music. It's a lot of car for the price. Much more fun to drive than my old Honda Accord.
Love the Soul Sport
I have had my Soul for a few weeks now. It was my first new car purchase. It is definitely a change from my previous Pontiac Grand Prix, but thus far I am really enjoying the vehicle! I'm not sure if it is just my vehicle, but one complaint is that I cannot use the automatic shutoff device on the gas station pumps, as they shut off about 1 second late, and about a cup of gas will overflow from the Soul's tank each time. It was something that never happened with my old vehicle, but it consistently happening at EVERY station I've filled. I definitely recommend the Kia Soul!
worth the money and the time
first I was skeptical about the whole buy a KIA thing but when i sat inside it I thought I was in a Honda or Toyota then i looked at the price and realized that i was inside the KIA Soul. Great ride handling really cool designed interior and next generation type features I got the auto soul ! and the best warranty i've ever seen.
Love my SOUL
I am very thrilled and excited about my new SOUL. I got the base model and it has all the features that I need and they all come STANDARD. I priced a Nissan and NOTHING came standard, even the ABS and the warranty had to be purchased extra. My Base SOUL came with 6 mos. free satellite radio (love it) excellent stereo, no flashy lights - no problem with me! Auto locks and windows. It even detects if a person is sitting in the passengers seat by weight to determine if the passenger air bag should be on or off. WOW. I am sooo pleases. Fun to drive and excellent value for the price. Base starts at 13,300. and goes up from there. I used the cash for clunkers program and now have my dream!
Where's the five speed auto and navi?
Kia has come SO close, but how could they offer an ancient four speed auto - this vehicle crys out for another gear an no navigation, while they were able to include speakers that light up? The red Sport interior trim is garish as well. Other wise this is a great vehicle, but these are two glaring ommisions.
Winning Car, Wishing for More
The Soul is a huge hit. Fit and finish are flawless. The neat features and electronics give it a unique personality. Headroom is outstanding. Where it misses: Not enough cup holders and pockets to store things usefully. Mileage is not what I hoped (averaging around 26). But front seat is too small and unsupportive. If you are above average in height or build, front seat will be painful for anything but very short trips. But car is FUN and so well built.
BEST CAR EVER
I went looking for a new car for me and my dad and i took one look at the soul and fell in love with it. It will be my first car ever and very happy about the low price. VEry comfortable in side and does not make any sound on the highway the people that said it did are crazy. When i got it every girl in my school came and looked at it. they all wanted a ride. Best car for teen and people that want a party car!!
SOUL IS THE BEST
I never thought I would write a review on a car, but I must say that I would recommend this car to ANYONE! I was a little afraid of how it would handle in bad weather and got stuck in BAD weather last night and the car handled better than any car I have ever owned. (about 30 different cars). Even next to MACK trucks in horrible rain, this little car was truly AMAZING and you would have never known it was such bad weather! I really do love this car and I am so happy with my choice to get it!
Bye-Bye SCION XB
After comparing the Scion XB and the Kia Soul. There is NO comparison in comfort, finish, style, price or warantee...After seeing both vehicles at Syracuse Auto show, I decided to test drive and compare both vehicles in Spring. The Scion definately has the more powerful engine, but it all ends there. The Soul has a more comfortable driving position, more standard features , bluetooth, better stereo system ,16 inch aluminum alloy wheels, better rear visability, better seats and interior quality, smooth controls, and free satillite radio( 3 mth trial).
So far, so good
Solid drive; much more comfortable and responsive than I expected. Comfortable seats. Accessories easy to reach for the most part. Put a 6-foot kid in the backseat and his knees didn't even touch the front seat. Much roomier than it looks. Cargo area not real big, but with seats folded down, more than adequate. Fun to drive. Turns on a dime. A bit sluggish on acceleration, I thought -- exceeded 5,000 rpms on a quick acceleration, which is too close to redlining for my comfort. Doors sound solid when closing them; not tinny like a cheap car. Loaded with nice, consumer-friendly features. A really good value, I think.
Kia Soul u gotta luv it
Just bought my Soul Sport Black (Shadow) with the sun roof. I luv the car and everything it comes with. The bluetooth is just great and the sound system rocks. You must remember the price of this car (I paid 18,900) and everything that you get, what a deal. It rides great and I have no problems with it.
Kia Soul4u
Just bought it today, been looking at the Soul for awhile, like the styling, my wife loves it and my 12 year old son. Great sound system, the road noise isn't unbearable, the ride is good, feels solid and is fun to drive and it seems to turn heads not that is a selling factor for me. All in all I think I made a good purchase.
My Hampstermobile Rocks!
I traded in my Ford Escape Hybrid on a whim; after watching the Kia Soul hampster commercial on youtube several times. I am in love w/this car. I am 53 and bought the stick shift. Drives beautifully, is fun to drive, holds an amazing amount, and the radio is fabulous. The interior design is brilliant and I'm told by passengers who have driven in my car that the back seat is really comfortable for adults and kids. I don't think it would be a comfortable ride for a long road trip, however, no small car is, in my mind. But for city driving, you can't beat the shear fun of a Kia Soul. I live in Florida w/oppressive heat , and love this air conditioner. It cools the car off very quickly!
NEW KIA SOUL SPORT
I have only had my Kia Sport for a few days, but I love it. Sporty, fun to drive and I really like my red interior. Was going to buy the Molten exterior, but once I saw it at the dealership, decided it was too flat a color. I decided on the Titanium, which is metallic and much prettier. I am a 51 year old female, traded in my Honda Element for the Soul.
Just Awesome
This car is just amazing. If you are looking online for reviews and reading articles, STOP NOW, go and buy one. Very solid build, the motor is plenty powerful to haul the weight of the car and 5 passengers. People stop dead in their tracks and stare at this car with a huge smile - it demands attention. Sound system is insane. I have a 4 gig USB drive full of MP3's/ If i get sick of that, i switch to Sirius Satellite Radio, if i get sick of that, it switch to my ipod, i get sick of that i switch to FM radio, i get sick of that i switch to CD's. Ridiculous options. * I should not that my model is actually the 4U Retro in Canada.
Great commuter ride.
Purchased Base Soul after much research. Perfect choice for me - 50 yr old driver with 120 mile roundtrip commute. Great view of road. Gas mileage is 31-33mpg consistently, I've checked after every fill-up. Comfortable for tall family of 4.My son is 6'4" and rides in front or back.Comfortable seat design and leg room. Wide door access. Storage is slightly small for my needs, but gives extra space for passengers. Great AC for Southern humidity. Easy reach to all accessories. Safety, solidness & maneuverability feel great! Wide stance and extra front engine space make me feel safe in small auto on highway. 3,000+ fun miles in 5 weeks! Catches lots of attention!
Poor fuel Consumption
Overall I like the car but I'm very disappointed with the poor fuel consumption. After doing lots of research I was under the impression that I should get about 30 mpg on the hwy, which is were I do most of my driving, even the dealer told me 30+ mpg. I'm lucky if I get 25 mpg, I would have never bought this car knowing this because I was looking for something with good fuel economy. Kia needs to step up and do something about the poor fuel economy on this car..
NOISE
OK little car for work. I cannot stand the interior wind noise. I am preparing for a fight w/ the service dept over this. My 03 diesel V8 is quieter than this car. I should of stuck to my original plan to purchase a used Mini instead. $16000 regret!
Spunky Soul is great fun
My wife and I were looking initially at the Kia Forte, but liked the roominess and ride height of the Soul(previously we owned a Jeep Cherokee). We both like the great number of safety features standard on the Soul. Unlike the Soul Sport that Edmunds was provided, ours does have the tire pressure sensor system included. I really prefer leaving the electronic stability feature on - it makes the ride and cornering much smoother and tight. I do some city delivery work with the Soul, and with the AC on and a lot of stop and go, we're still averaging 24 mpg or so. We haven't had it long, so we'll see how it handles the snow and ice of Nebraska. Also, I'll be interested in its reliability
Kia Soul off the Show Room Floor
Bought Soul off showroom floor @ 46miles. I compared with Scion XB/XD/TC,& the Cube. You get the full package w/the base price for a Soul. Those others were overpriced w/nothing in them. Soul has great design, comfortable & great seating space. I felt spoiled cuz I bought fully loaded Soul Sport & dealership had exterior customized already on showroom floor. Bought for $19,980. I get alot of compliments & people stop at the lights or in middle of traffic just to talk to me about the vehicle. It has all the luxuries I ever wanted in a vehicle - without paying that luxury price. I love my Soul. Bought it 05/01/09 & now has 6,400 miles. Like I said, I LOVE my Soul!!!
love my Kia
I just bought my Kia sport yesterday in the Molten. I bought the automatic, it seems to have plenty of pick up and go. It has plenty of head and leg room..even in the back seat. It is so cute! It is a head turner. I have the only one in my town so far. The ride is good and smooth, I don't hear road noise at any speed. I traded my 2007 focus ses in, The Focus had more road noise for sure. The stereo is very nice, excellent sound. The interior is awesome..love the red and the mood lights. The sales lady said this car was geared toward 40 and under, I told her I am 45 and proud to be a new Kia Soul owner!!!!
Old Guy Loves This Car
at 54 and having owned many luxury cars from corvettes to BMW's, I went with the Kia Soul because of style, comfort and fun. I can put up with my 5 adult children poking fun at me but I thoroughly enjoy this car.
the jury's still out
After searching and researching for a small car for several months I got a soul +. Had it a week and the car was pulling to the right, took it to the dealership for repair and they gave me the run around, took it back in a week same problem rotated the tires; which seems to have helped (till the tires wear) bought accessories from dealership and they didn't fit the model had them install them. Attached a bike rack on the back and that was not good, car doesn't seem to be that strongly built ( for bike rack @least). I'm not sure if I might have made a mistake or just gotten a lemon by buying this car before getting the bugs out. Thus the jury's still out.......
2010 Soul for Mom
We bought the Soul as a 3rd car ( teenager got the older car) for mom to drive. She puts quite a few miles on a car per year so we wanted something w/ decent fuel economy. We chose the Soul over Honda CRV, Toyota Rav4, Kia Sportage & Subaru Forester.
One Fine Machine
One fine little Machine Averaging 33 miles to gallon. Handling and Performance is excellent. Finally bought something that doesn't look like everything else on the highway. As for the Kia Soul I dont think I could have bought anything out there that satisfies myself and my wife more then Kia Soul
Driving my Soul!
I am enjoying driving my new Soul. It handles well and has a lot more room and features than most people can imagine. I originally had a Prius and no one thought I would ever switch to a Kia Soul. At this point I have no complaints.
Bless My Soul, What A GREAT car!
I'm not the demographic at 50ish years old. Or a hamster (see commercial). But I wanted a comfortable, safe, well- designed car with a great warranty and price. I did the research, test drove others and after 90 days of ownership am still THRILLED with the choice I made. Great city drive and for a highway that doesn't have bumps.
shopping for my wife , got two instead
Went to get my wife a review for her car choice and wound up coming home with two of them. I thought they would be small but there is plenty of room inside and plenty of selling features to draw you in. Time will tell on the reliability questions, but with the decent warranty that should be ok if problems arise over the next ten years. Who'd of thought a little wind up toy like this would make practicle sense for us. Hope everyone else is loving theirs as much as my wife and I are. For the first day anyway.
Greatest Bang for the Buck
It's been 7 days and 500 miles since I bought my Soul and it has been a blast to drive. It is roomy on the inside yet maintains a very tidy size on the outside. It has an outstanding turning circle, is very easy to maneuver on city streets, and parks in any tight compact space. Everywhere I go I get a million questions and looks (yes, even the Honda Fit & Scion drivers are staring). The bluetooth interface is better than the one in my other car, an Acura TSX. The sightlines from the driver's seat is outstanding and I love how it happily zips around town. I just recently took my Soul on a 300-mile road trip with various hill climbs and it averaged 28.8 mpg.
Best Car Ever.
This vehicle is the best choice you can possibly make when it comes to buying your next urban/short-to-mid distance traveling. It is cheap, maximizes utility, is strong enough to handle the competition, is efficient gas-wise, is stylish, and is among the most durable cars ever made by Kia. The ONLY gripe about this vehicle is that the interior vinyl scratches easily as heck. Be sure to buy some vinyl protection/repair material. I suggest Meguiar's Accent Coating.
Great little Crossover
Great car! Love all the standard features provided.
I love my little Alien Soul....
I just love my little alien colored soul. It handles like a dream. I went from a chevy s-10 which was only getting about 12 mpg in city. I have heard about the 'road noise' but after being in a pickup for the last 10 years, I haven't noticed any at all... This is a really cute car, rides great and so far really good gas mileage.
Fun to drive with style!
Bought for my son as a high school graduation gift. He drove the Cube & xB & the Soul was by far his fave. Great style, fun to drive, very roomy inside & fantastic features standard in this model. Build quality is excellent. Stereo system rocks. Ipod connectivity works great. No complaints so far. Add the great warranty & you have a winner compared to the Nissan or Scion. Got 1.9% APR financing as well as a great deal. Nice job, Kia!
Love my Soul
I love my "Little Big" Soul. It looks small but has great room inside. I love the fact it is "different" looking than most cars on the road. Handles great.
Great Car - Buy one!
I spent a lot of time comparing the RAV4, CRV, Outlander, and others. The price, features, MPG, warranty, and most important question "Do I like this car" led me to buy the Soul. I have put on 7,000 miles since May 09. I drive 60 miles a day and have taken this on 4 trips so far. I can truly say I am VERY happy with the Soul, how it is built, comfort, and MPG. I am 6' tall and there is plenty of room for me to sit. My 6'7" brother in law can also fit into this car! Front and side visibility is great. Rear visibility is good. Handling is great I saved $5 - 6,000 over a RAV4 (which was my 2nd choice). I am planning on driving this til it dies, we will see when that is!!
Soulfull
I started looking for a new car in Oct. 2008 and bought my SOUL! IN May 2009. I was in no rush to buy so I test drove Nissan, Chevy, Dodge, Jeep, VW, Suzuki and what I didn't test drive I research and talk to owners of the cars i was interested in. I first went to my dealer to look at and test drive a Suzuki sx4.(a great car) but it was a little small for my needs. That's when my dealer so me the Kia Soul. I test drove the Soul at three different dealers each on different road conditions (I was not gentle and was please how the car responded in each situation I put it in. I been approach by many people who are impress with the room and design of the Soul. I to am impress.
Still Up in the Air
We bought this car for the fuel efficiency and we got a good trade in as well. Got the base model but made them put in after market cruise control with the purchase. The cruise control looks and behaves cheaply. The dealership was shady and I'm not sure they aren't screwing us. It seems that after the last time i took the car in for it's scheduled check-up some warning lights came on. Even after they did a diagnostic! I'm going to get the equipment to run diagnostics myself. The check engine light comes on for a loose gas cap.
Road trip review
We just returned from a 2500 mile road trip in our new Soul+. Car handles really well on interstate and winding 2 lane roads. Great directional stability. Reminds me of a slot car! Short wheel base does result in jarring ride on bumpy roads, but not a deal breaker. got anywhere from 28 to 34 mpg, doing 70-75 with air on. Our + has the black interior, and it does tend to scuff up pretty quick. First car I have had in many years that allows you to see the ground when you look in the engine compartment! Lots of room in the interior and you sit up higher than a sedan. even higher than the PT Cruiser we traded in. Plenty of power for normal drivers.
It's early, but so far so good.
I was shopping for a 2006 Scion xB(the newer one grew way too big and milage sux), but it was hard to find a good one where I live, so I checked out the Soul. For only about $1,000.00 more than a used 2005-2006 xB I got a 2010 Soul with the great warranty. This box on wheels is a bit longer than the xB with a tad more room behind the rear seats and a longer hood. It is ugly with far to "busy" exterior styling. I prefer the early xB or the Cube for looks but the interior is laid out better in the Soul with the instrument cluster in front of the driver for easier visual access. I wanted the best gas mileage so I chose the base model, 1.6 L engine with no automatic transmission available.
