'95 Grand Cherokee Ltd with problems
I bought the vehicle used in 1996 with 30,000 miles. Loved the way it looked and the way the seats felt. I now have 118,000 miles. Very fun to drive but has reliability problems. It never left me stranded but has been a pain in the neck none the less. Here is the list of problems I've had over the past 8 years: Transmission rebuilt twice (35k & 95k), A/C problems twice, rear wiper unit failed, left front boot, both fog lamp lens fell off, power antenna broke, radio failed, leak in radiator, power steering pump, mounting bracket for the alternator broke, passenger side mirror mount broke. Had many poor experiences at the dealer repairs centers...too many to list.
ALL AROUND GREAT
Despite Consumer Reports calling this AN unreliable car, this is the BEST vehicle I have ever owned, incl. Porsche, BMW,Mercedes. The only problems I had were a waterpump that blew after a dealer "powerflushed" the system (their fault), and a noisy differential AFTER the dealer replaced a $5 seal and screwed up the repair. Otherwise, this has been as reliable as a stone. W/ 127,000 miles, I've had NO other problems throughout the vehicle. Also, AVERAGES 20.4 MPG w/combined city an freeway driving!!!!! Original tires went 95,000 miles and I've never had an alignment!
1995 Grand Cheerokee Laredo
Transmission needed work 62000 miles Needed front brakes 62000 miles Fuel economy's not the best.Larger fuel tank costs more to fill.Bought used .
Nine years and going strong
Overall, a reliable SUV with no surprises. The car design still looks great after nine years and has held up well. Some rattles around the dashboard and a recent one inside the passenger door - that can all be silenced if I get the time. The body looks great.
Good vehicle, a few problems.
Bought mine for a price that couldn't be refused. Paint seems to be excellent by American car standards or anyone else's. Wasn't garaged for the past six years, but it looks like new for the most part. Exhaust manifold and bumpers were cracked, but replacement wasn't costly or difficult. (Bought replacements online.) Excellent stereo speakers. (factory high-end option) A minor oil leak that I can live with. Hood release wouldn't. All minor stuff. Anybody who complains about the cost associated with the GC's typical problems (radiator, manifold, AC evaporator, transfer case) never owned a Mercedes.
