Proven workhorse
Had this car for 11 years, 160,000 miles. Rebuilt the transmission at 90,000 and made a few non-critical repairs (electric windows, back hatch) over the years, but, to my surprise, it's still running strong. I certainly do NOT regret buying it. It has withstood California commuter traffic, Wyoming fishing trails and Texas heat with a minimum of trouble. Mileage is bad (14-16 mpg), cornering is ridiculous, steering requires constant adjustment, but it has been reliable beyond my reasonable expectations. For an American car this old, it done good.
Feeling its Age
I bought my Jeep Grand Cherokee about a year and a half ago and it has been nothing but problems. About every two to three months, something will go wrong with it. (Something different every time.) I almost have a new car by now.
Don't Buy It!
We bought ours last year with 80000 miles on it and have regretted it ever since. I've been thinking that whoever owned it first must have been really hard on it, but these reviews tell me it's just a shoddy product. You can't even change out the taillight without special tools to take apart the entire assembly. We've worked on electrical problems galore, water pump, power steering, door locks, mirrors, wipers, etc.
95 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0
Purchased used with 60K+. Mileage now is 106k. It seemed after the 100k. it was one thing after another. However most was minor. The one major problem that I had was violent shaking and bouncing and the worst part was when I took it in, the problem could not be replicated. Finally a local mechanic put an off road steering dampener on! Problem solved. Before this the dealership replaced; stock steering dampener, front shocks and a motor mount. So if your having that shimmy SHAKE SHAKE... off road steering dampener.
Just turned 15 yrs old and 200,000 miles!
My parents bought it new in December 1994 and it just passed the 200k mark! It has been far more reliable than anything else we've ever owned. My mom drove it for nine years, then my dad for the next four years after that. They gave it to me over two years ago to use a second vehicle. Still runs and drives like a champ!
