Jeep made a real improvement in 2014 getting rid of the CVT transmissions in almost all of it's Compass models. The CVT was problematic as most are sluggish and performance is poor due to their design. The Compass is often underrated. The value is found in the less expensive models. The top models are vastly overpriced. Better off with a cheaper trim on a Cherokee than the bloated Compass! Older models with the CVT have earned the Compass a otherwise lower resale value. The CVT was paired to a measly 2.0 engine most years.

Just blehhh
Nothing exceptional about the car. I leased the compass for 3 years and looking back, I wish I had picked a different car. I really wanted a Jeep Grand Cherokee but settled on a compass. Overall, it’s a decent car but I wouldn’t and didn’t buy the car at the end of the lease

2016 compass at 40,000 miles
You will have a decent amount of maintenance after 40k. Or at least we did. Sensors galore, crank/cam sensor, Electronic throttle sensor, module under wheelwell, wire corrosion, poor placement of electrical systems. After 30k-40k miles expect a few 1000 in it.

Must read before you think about buying a compass
I bought mine with 24 miles on it. First thing off door hinges went out they fix them 3 times, then the wheel bearings went out took them 15k miles to figure it out and fix them. The heat control and heater core went out. The door handle stopped opening in the back. The hatch wont shut and now the longest stupid problem i have the jeep jerks when going down the road they said the transmission was fast shifting the dealer ship #1 said dealer #2 said it was the setrings in the computer forcthe transmission but they could fix it. The #3 dealerahip told me it was the coil packs there no light on in the jeep and they cant figure it out well won't i guess but they are a pile of junk i will never buy a jeep again i have owned any but this burnt me out. The warrants are crap and they dont cover nothing and the dealerships and jeep its self don't care. DONT BUY A COMPASS! update: now it leaks water into the driver front floor board, these jeeps are straight trash! Nothing but problems non stop, now I have a ABS light on and my traction control light is on. It burns oil, and when you turn it off all you can smell is gas. There is no recalls. The leak is coming from the light next to the rear view mirror which is leaking into the shifter and making my feet wet when it gets into the floor, so unsafe.
