XG300 by Hyundai. Sharp design, five speed tranny, posi-traction front wheel drive, great radio, heated rear view mirrors, good mileage, great paint job all add up to a car that was ahead of it's time for Hyundai. Not too many built but most are still on the road. No trouble with mine. Worth every penny and then some.

This was a great vehicle. But you NEED to make sure you keep it up to date with oil changes and such. The oil pan broke under the vehicle and drained all the oil out, hit 90 on the highway the next day and goodbye motor. It was a great car to own, never failed me until that day. I would recommend this vehicle. Tranny fluid and motor fluid need to be checked frequently!

Not a good car

This car is not a reliable car. Also, it is very, very expensive to repair. Ride is okay and it has a lot of extras, but none of this has any value if you can't keep it on the road. My primary car is a BMW and it cost less to operate that this car.

Please oh please never buy this car! I have owned this vehicle for three years and it is the newest and nicest car I have ever owned but it is also the least reliable and mostly costly to repair. The check engine light is on constantly and I average about $200- 300 per month in car repair bills. I have replaced so many parts I can't even keep track anymore. New transmission at 55k miles! If I sell you this car I am so sorry. Paint has been chipping and peeling for the past couple of years. So very cheaply made fake leather seats that are way uncomfortable. Also, lots of stuff breaking down far earlier than it should now I need a new radiator and catalytic converter. I hate this car!

I Love my XG it is a great buy for the money. I had it back only 7 times, 3 times for the same problem with EGR system and 3 times because of tires where bad from Michelin tires. I had it back once for electrical but they got it fixed right away with a free loaner. That was great! The transmission def. can use improvments and also the suspension could use some improvements to recall the suspension would be a great Idea and make consumers happy. To many clunks and feel even little bumpes, but the 02 is a little better but still needs a little bit more on suspension, and the transmission still is no good.

I've owned my XG300 for one year and have had it in the shop at least four times for non routine maintance issues.I would still suggest for a low budget car it's not bad overall. The so called options like Leather seats, wood grain accents, etc........are not up to par with the more expensive makes and models...This is obvious after after the excitement wears off.............

Original owner. Purchased for warranty. Thank God. First 72K Hyundai covered new Trans., rear struts, 3 radios and many, many sensors. After warrentee, found if you replace all 3 coils at once, and the air mass flow sensor, $800 total, she has been running extremely well for the last 40K. Have 135K on it now (8/2/09) getting 26 to 27 mpg w/o AC and 23.5 to 25 w/ AC. Find it comfortable for a 6'4' long legged guy. Overall good car because of warrentee and loaners from dealer.

I recently purchased a 2001 XG300 program car from a Hyundai dealer and couldn't be happier with the overall value this car offers. Fit and finish are flawless, the engine is smooth and powerful, and the ride offers a perfect balance between soft/supple and firm. This is not an ideal car for inner-city driving, but is perfect for highyway and suburban jaunts. Consumer Reports claims the car is "floaty" on the highway; however, I have not found that to be the case during my 40 mile commute to and from work. In fact, this car is highly responsive and comfortable at both low and high speeds and the acceleration is exceptional.

This is my fourth Hyundai Vehicle; one Elantra for a teenage daughter, 2 Sonatas, and now the bestest lastest. Everyone should get over it. Hyundai no longer builds shoddy automobiles. The wised up after the 80's. I will put my XG-300L up against any thing on the road of comparable size and 15000 dollars more expensive. Greatest of all is the 10/100000 mile warranty on the engine and tranny and the 5/60000 bumber-to-bumper. They don't do that because they think the car will have multiple problems, they are proud of it and don't expect to go broke fixing them. Get over it Detroit! Get over it Japan! Get over it critics! Hyundai is a contender.

This car was the most beautiful car I have ever driven or seen. I drove many GM, but this took my heart. For mechanical issues it was never ending. We work for GM dealership, we know mechanics, so to all who read this, pick your mechanic carefully, and keep all work orders. Just wrecked mine due to mechanic error, and cheep parts, buy the best quality parts, it might save your life, and question your Service manager on the parts replaced, I should have known better, but I trusted them. my heart is broken, could have been my life.

In my 6/6/05 review, I mentioned the transmission was shuddering sometimes when it shifted. After seeing some others that had the same problem, I took it to the dealer and asked about a possible faulty trans sensor. The dealership called me 4 hrs later and said I need a new transmission because it has a bad torque converter(?)! My car only has 32,000 miles on it, and I just bought it in 2/2005. But, the 5yr/60,000 mi warranty is still good until 3/06/2006 (and it did transfer), that was a close one! I still like the car but I'm not quite as confident about it getting me where I need to go - safely.

Bought this car 5 years ago and I love it. Have 65K miles on it and I never had any major issue. It has very good pickup and drives smoothly. It has many value added features that you find on more expensive cars, like wood grained interior, leather eveywhere, great stereo, power eveything, and great looks. Noone ever guesses that it's a Hyundai. People think it is a Lincoln or Infinite. Overall a good value and a good buy.

Going 70 mph, in order to avoid another car,the choice was go down an embankment, or go into a fishtail. The car hugged the ground tight, never feeling like it was going to flip. It did a 360, coming to a stop on the shoulder. I KNOW the weight & stability of this car saved our lives, so the lower gas milege I get because of it is well worth it!

Although I love most things about my XG300L, I feel Hyundia deceived owners by misquoting its horsepower rating. I was also told there would be no change in the car (including engine size) for the next year. The increase of engine size and the model change to the XG350 surely devalues the XG300. I hope someone will initiate a class action suit against Hyundia.

I have owned this car less than one year and it's not a good car. Check engine light has came on 3 times, took car in three times for noise when shifting and acceleration problems. Currently my car is sitting in the shop, and has been for a week. They replaced my transmission, motor mounts, transmission mount, and reprogrammed my ECM and my car is still not running correctly. Luckily it only has 55,000 miles and is still under warranty. This car has more problems than it was worth and I have big time buyer's remorse from this purchase. I have called Hyundai directly to note my dissatisfaction with their company but they don't seem to care. Always have to wait for parts on car too.

I had purchased this car new in September of 2001. The current mileage on my XG is about 42K. I can honestly say that this is car has been the most reliable car that I have ever owned. While putting aside routine scheduled maintenance, this car has only been serviced 2 times. The 1st problem I had was that the glove box light would not go off when it was closed. The 2nd problem I had was the transmission shuttering, which was mentioned in some of the other reviews. The problem was a faulty trans. sensor which was replaced at 25k miles. The trans currently operates perfectly normal. Overall, this is a great car for the money and would definitely conside buying another one from Hyundai.

Tensioner/Alternator/stops going 60mph

Like the car, get compliments on styling and comfort. Unfortunately had to replace the tensioners and belts 3 times (tensioners chew the belts badly), replaced the alternator at 50,000. Have had a shudder when going from high speeds to slowly down at ramps or traffic slows suddenly. Have 98,000 miles on it and now going at 60 mph, the car engines just stops. Next thing I will be killed because of this. The dealership's service is bad, can't find anything wrong - I take it to my regular mechanic who fixes it. Service means save the dealership money customer spends it elsewhere. Oh, yes, the paint started peeling after 2 years on the driver side running board. Not their problem.

I looked at Hyundai because of the warranty...and I fell in love with the leather seats, luxury features, and smooth ride for the great price. However, I've been disappointed with the paint job, the fuel economy with the lack of pick up, and looking at trade in value...yikes! I like my XG, but I think I'll go back to Toyota for my next car.

jizzag, 10/10/2002

The BIG LIES: First, the horsepower is 10 less than the respectable (for the money) 192 HP advertised, which was one my deciding factors in choosing the XG over other cars considered. Second, the "premium sound system" is NOT! Other disappointments: the "service engine" light still on after four service department visits, rusted brake drums, poor front interior lighting, inferior paint job. I'm also very suspicious about the odometer accuracy. Otherwise, I still like my car a lot. Features usually found in cars that are more expensive are standard in the XG300L, which make its it still a best buy for the price. And the performance, even at 182 hp, is adequate.

The only problems I experienced with the car were caused by dealer service. Other than that, it's been one of the best cars I've owned - and my first "luxury" car. I've since also added a Santa Fe to my "fleet". The XG300 is comfortable to ride in and to drive. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants luxury without the price of a Lexus or problems of a Cadillac.

I know someone else that still has a 300, she is having the same problems I did. The car did get me more comments than any other I've driven but looks don't guarantee dependability.

Since I bought my XG300 I experienced a slight shutter when going from 3rd to 4th gear. The dealership said this was common in the '01 XG300. I now have 87K on the car and my warranty is not valid since I am the 2nd owner (non- transferrable 100K drive-train warranty!), and the extended warranty I bought at the dealership is null-and-void since firm went bankrupt. I'm stuck with paying for a brand new transmission on a 3.5 year old car! I called Hyundai direct and they said not their problem.

I bought this car new in 2001 and I called it a "Poor Mans Lexus." The initial quality was rock solid but I had to replace the transmission at 90k and Hyundai pcked up the cost. I had the shuddering thing happening that someone mentioned in an earlier posting. Everything else (alternater, brakes, water pump, etc...) was very expensive to fix becuase you can only get genuine Hyundai parts. The check engine light comes on quite a bit and it is always something with this car. It seems to be very sensitive and the oil and oxygen sensors are always turning that damn light back on! Now I was told that it needs to have the catalitic converters ($3,000)replaced so it is time for me to get rid of it.

I purchased my 2001 XG300L used in Feb of 2005 with 26,419 miles. It only has 28,000 miles on it now and, as mentioned in another review, I have noticed a slight shudder when the auto transmission shifts. I took it to a local transmission shop for routine service (since the warranty didn't transfer) and they didn't seem too excited about it, so...we'll see. I was expecting better gas mileage. I am only getting 19-20 city (on good days!). Other than these concerns, I like it.

We went looking for a GM vehicle during the "Keep America Rolling" event last year, but couldn't find any car we liked under $30,000. By mere accident, I went and test drove the XG 300. Immediately, I called my wife and told her I had found THE CAR. At first we weren't sure about buying a Hyundai, but we have not regretted it in the least. This car turns heads, is fun to drive, and I believe is the best kept secret around. I get to drive around in a car that rivals a Lexus ES 300 or an Acura TL, but without the huge monthly payment. Do yourself a favor - bypass all the Camrys, Accords, and Altimas, and get into something BETTER, an XG.

The car is mostly great. As far as reliability, I have no complaints. However, it could use more horses and less fuel usage. I had to return to dealerships to have few plastic pieces replaced. Initially, the front passenger side headrest was not stiched properly and was replaced. Overall minor quality control problems, but engine and transmission has proven to be reliable. I just had 30k major service, which was a shocker since the service fee varied from $300 w/ coupon to $850 in various dealerships. Still, I do enjoy the ride in my car. PS: My Michellin OEM tire wore out at 29500 miles and needed replacing.

I bought this car used from a Hyundai dealer 5 months ago and have been in love with it since then. It looks like a big sedan on the outside...and with so few of it on the road, people do wonder "Looks like a nice car...what model is it" People who sit into the car are really impressed by it generous interiors. The only problem has been that the CD player did not work since day 1. It accepts a double din system which are expensive and I have been lazy to get it replaced.

I purchased this vehicle at the same time the new 2002 Maximas were introduced. I was torn between the two, but finances prevailed, and I purchased the Hyundai. It had most of the options the Maxima had, except for the horsepower. The Maxima boasted 255 HP and the Hyundai 190. The Hyundai definitely feels sluggish and since the first day I owned it, I kept telling everyone it didn't even feel like 190 HP. It turns out that Hyundai lied on it's vehicles specs' and didn't inform owners until the fall of 2002. The car doesn't have 190 HP but 180 and believe it or not, this makes a difference. I am joining a class action lawsuit as a result.

excellent, superb, super value...i have owned numerious brand...but nothing compares to the value & luxury i've gotten with this car. so far i've had no problems aside from tire balance defect which made the hanle shake at high speeds.it has just about all the features u can dream of for a price of a base camery v6. materials & workmanship is on par with lexus & even better than infinity. quiet, rattle free & solid feel. once u test drive one u will fall in love. i plan to keep the car for the entire 10 yr period. its a head turner & i'm loving it more & more as the days go by. so far i have influenced 3 other ppl to buy the xg350.

I enjoyed owning this vehicle and found it very comfortable for long trips. Two problems..rear safety belts were hard to get into and there was no dome light and at night one could not see in the back seat. Only map lights in the front.

As you can tell from the title, I do a great deal of driving. The XG300 has been very reliable and is a great highway car. Gas mileage averages 28mpg with good overall performance. The car has been back to the dealer once for a "check engine" light which turned out to be a minor repair.
