A Thunder Butt thrill of a car !
Bought a 2020 Veloster 1.6T (turbo) Ultimate in Thunder Gray Metallic, Black roof and cream /red trim interior and I could not be more pleased with it. Am a car nut from the 1930,,s (89 years old) and restored antique cars as a hobby thru the years, so am supposed to know a thing or two about automobiles, and this little package of fun beats the pack ! First , it is a sheer blast to drive, ( I do not RACE an automobile like some nutcake, but now and then do like to take some kid at the light for a few blocks down the road )......guess some folks look twice when they see an old codger get out from the Veloster , but I just smile and move on...... love the exhaust note, dual clutch 7 speed trans works smoothly in normal mode, electronics are superior to most offerings in the sport car field, the price was unbeatable for a fully dressed product that gets 34mpg ,and the Hyundai 5year Traded my Veloster for a 2021 Ridgeline as I needed a light duty truck for week end warrior duty. I enjoyed my my relatively short tenure with the Volester and although it was as hard riding as a skateboard , would own another some day !

Exactly what I wanted
This car gets left out of a lot of interesting comparisons for some reason. Maybe it's because Hyundai hasn't had the reputation like some of the other manufacturers, or because the third door puts it in between a sedan and a coupe. It doesn't matter, this is a really great car that I'm guessing most people won't find. I chose it over the Mazda 3 because for the same price, it had far more options, was more efficient and had way more pop on the throttle. I also felt that the interior quality was much higher particularly at the the joints and seams of the trim. The warranty was also out of this world. Actual driving usage puts this car much higher than EPA estimate MPG ratings. I routinely get 39mpg in mixed traffic on normal driving mode. Smart (eco) sees even higher efficiency numbers at the expense of acceleration. Sport mode is just a blast. I do not fully understand how to drive this car with the paddle shifters, however. This car is my commuter and provides great comfort for me (a larger guy) and enough room to comfortably fit (and access) a child seat in the back for morning school drop off. All of the doors shut with a very solid, sealing, "thunk" akin to german car manufacture and quality. The Inifinity stereo system is perfect in this car with a high degree of clarity across multiple genres of music and audio indications. Blind spot monitoring is far less spastic than other cars I've driven, maybe 10 -15' zone of interest rather than 40'. I think the thing that you're not going to see in a lot of these reviews is the fact that this car has absolute soul. When you sit in the driver seat, you feel in total control - completely connected to the car. You're in a cockpit designed to give the driver everything you need. Some of it is modern convenience. The rest of it is feel. I love the red accents, from the bottom air scoop in the front of the car to the seat trim, to the steering wheel. The leather is high quality, firm to the touch. The plastic (which gets highly criticized in reviews) on the door panels is hard and firm - it does not bend when you push it even in the broad areas. The DCT with the turbo provide instantaneous power when passing on a highway. I find myself still waiting for the downshift and still being surprised when it just happens without the delay. Android auto on the 8" touchscreen is great - you can actually split screen the thing to look at two things at once. The rear visibility is probably the worst thing about the car - on the highway it's not an issue, but backing out of my driveway, I feel like I can't see much. The backup camera does a great job of providing a broad field of view however, I'm just not used to it yet. Otherwise, I wish it had a built in garage door opener.

I get compliments everywhere....
I traded in a 2017 veloster turbo, and could not be happier. The veloster N rips, I loved my turbo but the N is on another level completely. Buy one, you will love it

My new grocery getter
I have always been a car nut from before I even knew how to drive. I have probably owned more cars than any sane person would. I presently have a large premium German sedan and a 1965 Shelby Cobra ( makes a lot of sense for a man my age?). I recently purchased a 2019 Velositer Turbo Ultimate. I still can"t get over the value, fit and finish, drive characteristics and comfort in a car of this size and price. People have no idea as to what kind of car this is and it does draw quite a few second looks. I will use the car for local driving and errand hopping but so far it is my favorite go to car. Great value and a heck of a lot of fun!!!

Amazing value
Balance of fun, performance, and utility. Nothing this good, this cheap on market.
Great little car
I purchased a 2019 Veloster, traded in a 2016. Many changes in the Veloster in 3 years. I got the Turbo model, all of the safety featuers and more. The difference between the two, transmission smother, better fuel economy, more featuers to help the driver. Lane keep assist, blond spot and cross traffic. I agree with Ron Fox , this car doesn't get the reviews it should. Always compared to civic r and GTI, these cars cost much more equipped the way the Veloster is. Most reviews recommend the Turbo spec, yet I would say 90% of the people can't drive a 6 speed transmission. The warranty is better than most car's, 5 years or 60,000 miles.

Way to fun to drive!!!
I have only had this car (2019) for about 2 month. I LOVE it. I love cars to begin with and had a 1999 Cougar for about 20 years that I loved. I turned it in (couldn't find a part to fix it) and got a Ford focus, manual tranny. It was good. I liked it. Had power. But the Velostar I LOVE! It is me. I am over 50 but have always loved sportier cars. The handling is great. I took it down the coast route, Hwy 101 in Oregon which has quite a few sharp turns. It did great. Smiled all the way home. I thought Hyundai's were cheap cars but I think this is better than my Ford focus. It does have a short 'back door' (if it had one) window on the drivers side so is a little hard to see out of but I don't have too much trouble seeing behind me. Maybe because I am tall. I don't think I can think of any problems. I know that I am so glad I bought this car. I think Ron Fox (another review) said it all.

Sporty
Nice car. Small, which is just what my wife likes. Lower than our previous vehicle, but not as low feeling as I thought. Pick-up is decent and overall we are very happy with the vehicle.

A great little car with big value.
I agree with Ron Fox this car gets left out of comparing with other cars for some reason. It is always compared to the civic r and GTI, these cars cost many dollars more than the Veloster. I had a 2016 Veloster and traded it in in a 2019 Veloster. The new Veloster has improved in many areas, the transmission is smoother. Vision seems better forward and side views, rear vision is still limited. However blind spot detection and cross traffic detection is great. When backing up if a car or person is in the area it lets you know. Gas mileage is improved, seat comfort is great. The engine is smooth and turbo is more responsive. The warranty is better than many cars, 5 years and 60,000 miles.

My "fun" car
I got this for my "fun" car, so I didn't have to drive my mommy car every day (Mazda CX9 Signature). I wanted the Turbo Ultimate Manual after I drove the R-Spec and loved the way it felt, but wanted more niceties. It was hard to find a Ultimate manual transmission!! I ended up buying sight unseen and undriven from an out of state dealer. I was nervous the shifter wouldn't be as nice as the short throw in the R-Spec (loved that!). My car arrived, and while the shifter wasn't as smooth (it's still good), I found the clutch just as light and easy as the R-spec, and of course the car just as fun to drive with those Michelin Summer tires. I love to drive this car! It's so much fun zipping around, not to mention it just looks so cool. We drove this on a long 11 hour trip, and much to my surprise it was so much more comfortable for the long ride than my CX9. I use my sunroof in this car much more than any other car I've owned - wind/noise is better than others. I prefer to drive in sport mode, as I favor the increased responsiveness of the steering wheel and the accelerator - it's an obvious difference. I wish it would always be on, but it disengages when the car is shut off. The safety features and blue link are great! Unfortunately since it is a manual transmission, some of the features do not work, such as turning on the car remotely. I guess they can't be sure everyone parks in neutral! There is also no active cruise control, much to my disappointment - I thought they could have designed it to work with a manual honestly...you hardly shift out of 6th on the highway even when you have to speed up a bit, as it has enough "go" to increase speed adequately. Other than those few things, I'm completely satisfied with this car. I'm so glad I got it. GREAT fun for a modest price.

Pocket Performance
The Veloster N is hand-down the best bang for your buck performance car you can buy in today's day and age. It is superbly quick and exiting to drive. I have never owned a car before that gives me as much exhilaration as the Veloster N. With its Performance Blue color, it turns heads everywhere too. This car gives me hope that the enthusiasts' market for fun, high power, low weight vehicles still exists.

Responsive and fun
I've had the car for a month and love it. Base model. I drive it in sport mode most of the time and enjoy the instant, eager response. Top end numbers are not that important to me. Car is low, so feels faster than it probably is. MUCH more practical than a first glance might predict. Warning to older drivers like me: long driver door and low seats make entry and exit less than ideal. But 3rd door is great! I can verify car is good in snow, even with standard tires.
Stands out from the rest
We owned a Mini Cooper 2013 prior. If the quality on the mini cooper was sound we most likely would have purchased another but, the Veloster has what we liked in the Mini cooper with quality/reliability

I still love my 2019 Veloster Turbo Ultimate!
It has been a year since I bought my 2019 Veloster Turbo Ultimate and I still love the car. Fortunately, this is a second car in our family and as my wife has a SUV for hauling large articles. However we prefer this car for our trips because it is comfortable and fun to drive. We chose the red color and it looks great with the black roof and we often get compliments on the car. The gas mileage is better than expected as I am getting 33 MPG around town and the other day I got 40 MPG on a road trip. The car has plenty of pickup whenever I use the sport mode.

Get the hatch while it's hot!
Coming from a couple of Ford Focus models, first a Titanium then an ST. The Veloster turbo is a step down in power, but a very well tuned suspension and superior electronics, safety features, entertainment and nav system more than make up for a few missing ponies. Don't get me wrong, the Veloster still has enough power to be fun, but the ST was a beast. Steering is great, especially in sport mode and it holds corners very well. Sound system is excellent as is the nav. Driver information abounds and lane assist is actually really good, subtle corrections that seem more like a banked road than any sort of computerized assistance. Update: I traded this on a Veloster N in March of 2021. It held it's value very well, which is probably down to having most options and the increase in the used car market from supply chain issues for new cars. I was pleased with the minimal amount of maintenance required to keep the car running well. No other complaints, I just wanted the additional power and the Dual Clutch Transmission offered in the 2021 Veloster N.

Finally got a Veloster Turbo!!!
I've only got the car and driving it around for about 4 days! So far so good. I'm really surprised about how (for me) comfy the ride is. I have my fair share of hard/rough ride (CR-Z, Z3 Coupe and Juke Nismo) this 2019 VT takes the cake on ride quality!!! Power and torque is more than enough for me. Space on the back seat and rear storage is also more than enough. MPG is way better than what it say. I get between 36-38MPG on mix driving. I'm really glad I waited for the 2nd Gen VT.

I've owned everything from Porsche's to Hell Cats. This car for the money is the best in build quality, driving fun, and affordability. I would buy another Hyundai in a second.

I love my red veloster turbo
This is the first car I have owned where I cannot stop looking back once I walk away from it. I bought a brand new veloster turbo in March for $21,500, which was 5k under MSRP.I will start with the body, it has sleek lines and a mean look which I constantly has me saying, "She is so baaaad (in a good way)". The grill is stylish, the lights are far stronger and brighter than my girlfriend's 2019 Civic EX. The interior is amazing. I live in the desert and it has the perfect mix of non-leather material with leather. It has red stitching with a red stripe down each seat. In comparison to my girlfriend's Civic, it is such a premium look and holds an upper hand on Honda. The dash and steering wheel makes me feel like I am on top of the road and the sport suspension is amazing. I love driving my car. It has a three mode transmission which has a sport mode, normal mode, and smart mode for the freeway. I average 32-34mpg on the freeway and 28mpg on everyday use. It has such nice pick me up with it's 198lbs of torque. Also their Hyundai app is amazing. Again I live in the desert, it is 105 degrees on the summer and 30 degrees in the winter. It has apple and google car play with a huge screen that I believe is nicer than the civic layout (and I love Hondas as well). The app allows me to start my car from the hospital floor I work on to the parking lot which is about 2,000 feet away to start my AC at 62 degrees so by the time I get to my car it is ice cold. I love this feature so much, it allows me not to melt in my car once I step in. It makes me look forward to stepping into my car on hot summer days and assume it will be the same with our ice cold winters. At 21k this car was a steal and the 10 year 100k mile warranty is the icing on the cake. The technology, speed, and interior has converted this Honda loving registered nurse to a Hyundai believer 👌👌👌

A Wolf in Sheep's clothing
I bought my RSpec and it is a great all around fun car to drive. The manual transmission is easy to use and throttle response is awesome. This is my second Veloster and first turbo and it is a very stylish upgrade. Since the RSpec is basically loaded to start, all the features are excellent. The larger touch screen is nice and the addition of Andriod Auto is really nice. I was stopped at a light today and was told by another motorist that the car looked capable and that I was lucky to drive it.

N incredible car
Traded in a 428i with Dinan stage 1 for this little firecracker. Hands down way more fun than any other car I've owned. There is a very good reason this car won Road & Track's Performance Car of the year. BTW, it beat out the new 911, the new Corvette and a bunch of other exotics. Puts a smile on your face every time you drive it.

Excellent car horrible Hyundai service
I compared N ( 275 hp ) with Civic type R. Type R -nicer interior , little more interior space and more power - probably little faster on track but both have excellent handling - very similar on twisty roads. Type R is just too expensive - 3k better yes, 4-6 maybe, 8 or more definitely not. Update : A couple weeks ago I witnessed 2 guys in 911 turbos “chasing” each other in Malibu canyons. I joined them and I was easily able to keep up with cars 5 times more expensive. March 2022 my battery died - average wait time for any service work in L.A. area - 4-6 weeks.

R-Spec is fast, fun and MPG friendly
I wanted a sporty and fun to drive hatchback that also didn’t cost an arm and a leg. With gas prices reaching above $5/gal on average I wasn’t going to be able to afford 91 octane and only 20-25 mpg either. This little turbocharged car has as much power as the others and I’ve been averaging 34mpg over the last 3k miles I’ve driven. I haven’t been easy on the throttle either! This little car doesn’t have the following that the Golf GTI or Civic R do, but it’ll keep up with them and cost significantly less upfront and at the pump! The tech is great along with the surprisingly spacious cabin as well. I’m glad I took the dive and chose this pocket rocket!

Ultimate Veloster
The reviews by the professionals were accurate - the 2020 Hyundai Veloster Turbo Ultimate is a well crafted small car with reasonable acceleration, comfortable ride, and excellent fuel economy (34mpg Hwy).
Sporty, fun and ready for any curves
This is my second Veloster N previously I owned a base, which showed me how strong the safety was after taking out a small tree after being pit maneuvered by a SUV. This Performance Pkg which is now standard equipment has been a great daily and when needed a good track car. It will surprise you how much can fit in the car with the seats down. The screen is best used with Android Auto or Car play but it can be fun without as well. You have drive one to see why it was Drivers Car of year or check out my YouTube @crawleyatl
