I bought my Sonata in October and it's been a great car. I recently was reminded on how good it really was. I was driving with my family a couple of weeks ago, when we we struck by another vehicle. We were t-boned at an intersection on the driver's side. Both front and rear airbags deployed and the car was considered a total loss. Fortunately, my family was fine, with a few bumps and bruises. I am grateful that the car protected us in such a violent crash. Needless to say, I'm shopping for another Sonata. Thanks Hyundai!

We just replaced the starter in our 75K mile 2011 Hyundai Sonata. We were told that the starter is a very common problem for this car, and sure enough, what presented as a possible battery problem that was difficult/impossible to jump turned out to be a starter. This is the first and only mechanical problem we have had with the car. Other than that, it is loud on the road and seats are uncomfy for me at 5'4", but it has been a great car. Just be prepared to shell out $500-700 for the starter.

All schedule maintenance had been done on my car and despite that. Right after my 100K warranty ran out in year number 3! 1. Starter failed at 105K miles 2. Engine replaced at 135K miles after usual hwy trip the engine light flickered went off and then followed by engine noise *(knocking or ping). Update: Find out engine had a manufacturer defect and a recall Hyundai did provide a reimbursement for my $4900 I paid. Other than that great car. Great ride I believe thanks to sport suspension and great performance and gas mileage for a 4 cylinder.

Warning to all those thinking about purchasing a Hyundai Sonata 2011, there have been a large number of recalls because once you hit 85,000 miles+ the engine will fail. I just had it happen to mine. They never sent me a recall report on anything except the break lights. They informed me they are not sure of how long it will take to repair it since they're not making the engines fast enough. Thankfully, since it was a recall, the Hyundai dealer is paying for the repairs which can cost up to $6,000. They are amazing cars, but the engine failure was a huge disappointment.

2011 Hyundai Sonata Noise Problem

We purchased the 2011 Hyundai Sonata in Feb 2011. We love the way it drives, the interior features, comfort and looks. However, we are extremely unhappy with a groaning noise that occurs with decceleration or braking to a stop. We have had the car in to the dealer 4 times, had numerous emails back and forth with Hyundai Customer Service and have only been told the noise is coming from the A/C compressor and "it is operating as designed" so there is no repair for it. They have said it is in all of the 2011 Sonatas but I doubt that since I have seen no other posts or articles about it. Needless to say, I cannot recommend that anyone purchase this vehicle until Hyundai addresses this problem.

I purchased my 2011 2.0 Turbo SE March 1st and I all ready have 1600 miles so that must tell you I love driving the car. I was experiencing the pulling to the left and i brought it back and they said that hyundai was aware of the problem and they were waiting for a computer update for the steering. So I called the consumer care to verify this and what great service they took my name and serial number of the car called the dealer ship where we bought it and they said to make an appoinment. Then I got a call from Paul who is the regional service manager from Hyundai from New Jersey he said that they changed the specifications and it was fixed and no more pull.

All my service was performed on time and engine began to burn oil. The dealer found bad ring and recommend to Hyundai of America to fix. The tech line from Hyundai said it was normal for the engine to use 1 qt of oil every 1 k miles. I have never heard of such. If this happens the engine would lock up before the next oil change. Do not buy this car as the company will not honor the warranty. The dealership also took my engine apart and found that it was extremely clean and had been service on time as it should. They also sent pictures to the Tech line and they still would not stand by the warranty. 10/15/2018 New engine was replaced a year ago free of charge and everything mechanically is working great. However I have replaced about every bulb there is to replace on the outside of the car. Also had window switch go bad, also had AC damper switch go bad, also had dome switch go bad, also some of the speakers went bad. This company uses cheap switches and other electrical items. I replaced all my self, but if it had been taken to a dealership I would have paid out the nose. Just stay away from these cheap made vehicles. I now own a Toyota which is way more reliable than the Hyundai.

Great Car, too bad there have been so many recalls

I bought this car 1 month ago with about 85,000 on it for $11,999. I love how it feels and the acceleration and braking are exceptional. I bought one with Black Interior/Exterior color. It has a very sharp look and it definitely makes you look twice. The black Exterior is metallic and sparkles. I do notice a fair amount of light scratches in the paint but it is only noticeable if you are looking very closely at it. I like the heated seats and the Satelite radio. The stereo system is okay, have heard better thou. There is a considerable amount of rattling noise from the passenger door and the passenger seat has more vibration from the road then it should. I have to re-adjust the seat to stop it from rattlein. I live where the roads are rough and the car's suspension does not ride well on them. I'm going to replace the tires with ones that are not high performance. I hope that will soften the ride. My car has had 8 recalls and the last one was in April and has yet to be repaired by the dealer. They are waiting from Hyundai on instructions on what to replace. It is the STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM recall. The power assist could fail without warning and make it hard to steer the car. If you buy one of these cars make sure all recalls have been taken care of. Which one should do with any car they buy but exceptionally the Sonata. My car is one of the cars that was assembled in Alabamba. A large number of engines have metallic metal shavings in the engine that can cause it to seize up. I had mine checked and they say it is not affected but still warranty the engine up to 125,000 miles or 10 years. I love this car but do wish I would have checked for the recalls before I bought it.

This car is amazing, recently traded in my jeep compass for it. Love the leather, it does not feel cheap some other models do. Love the gas milage as well, i am avering 27 combined highway and city. All the features are nice such as the steering wheel controls and reverse camera. I love the metallic paint, i have a white sonata and it glistens all the time. The only problem as stated before, is that it seems to want to pull to the left a little on its own. It happens more often at speeds between 20-40 though. Overall, great car with a smooth ride and great luxury features. I get asked all the time if it is really a hyundai, or a lexus or bmw

When I first got this car it seemed fine, and now it’s been 4 years of problem after problem. First, the engine died on the interstate (before it was recalled). I had to get the A/C fixed, oil pump replaced, steering wheel sounds like it’s failing apart, cruise control doesn’t work, fuel door doesn’t open, paint is peeling in huge chunks, transmission is going out, tire pressure sensor is out, headlights SUCK, I basically LIVE with the check engine light on. Sure, gas mileage is great if my car can actually get me to my destination. Every day I wake up and wonder “will my car make it?” I have nightmares about being stuck with this car forever, but then I remember it probably won’t last another 1,000 miles. If you want a car that other people get into and say “what’s that noise?” Or “are you sure this is safe?”, then this is definitely the car for you! **update: the electrical wiring in my car has caused my interior lights to stay on all the time (running my battery dead), has caused all of the buttons on my steering wheel to stop working, and I got in my car the other day to find the end of my phone charger burned. Wish my entire car would have burned!**

I have had my car for 4 weeks and have logged over 2500 miles. The first thing to all of you with the pull to the left,It can be corrected by moving the frame. Mine is now fixed and runs as straight as an arrow. Anyhow this car is freakin awesome. The turbo is quick, smooth, and great on gas and this a truly great thing at $3.39 a gallon. The bluetooth is the best invention since sliced bread! XM standard! Who would have thought you could have so much for so little. This is our third Hyundai and won't be our last.

I bought 2011 Sonata Limited for my wife with maintenance included so that she'll have carefree service, thus paid premium price for the car. I am an engineer myself so I understand there could be and there will be bugs in newly designed vehicles. When she wanted to return the car after overheating twice and gearshift issues in first month, I stopped her. I wish I did not. There followed other problems, seats squishing, rattling inside the car. And last but not least leaking moon roof from the passenger side. Every time the services response was, it is normal, it can happen etc. Mind you my wife drives our baby around this car so she is a very gentle driver.

I purchased this vehicle as a certified Pre-Owned product, and at first was VERY impressed with the comfort, power, and style of the car. One test drive and I was sold! The 2.0L turbo engine delivered oodles of acceleration, and would breathlessly accelerate to pass slow moving traffic. As time went on over the next 2 years of ownership, I still admired the style and power, but many small things started to bother me. The Latex-type paint on the steering wheel started to peel, the fabric on the seats started to bubble up and became loose, the A/C began ticking at low fan speeds, the shift paddles failed (and were replaced under warranty), the transmission began to shift roughly and was brought to the attention of my dealership 2 times. On both occasions, it was found to be "Operating as designed" even though it shuttered leaving their parking lot. The keyless entry was a nice touch, but the batteries in the fobs died early and often. Sometimes it would be very difficult to get the car to shift from P to D, and it would lurch forward quickly once you let off the brake. The gorgeous coupe-like styling was such a headache. I could never see around the blind-spots in front and back. Also, the car NEVER came close to EPA estimates for MPG. I averaged between 17-19 MPG on my daily commute - Pathetic for a car supposed to get 23 in the city and 25 combined. Add in 5 safety recalls over 2 years, and the decision to trade it away was simple.

Overall, this is a very good car. I like it better than the Honda Accord. But after driving it for a year, it has lost its appeal. There is a slightly cheap feel that does not improve over time. The plastic parts of the seats and dash scratched easy and made the car look kind of trashy. Same with the paint and finish outside; and I really take care of my vehicles. Rear visibility is not very good. It is easy to overlook when sitting in a new car, but over time it really gets annoying. We traded the Sonata in after 13 months and 25,000 miles. It took a $6,500 dollar hit. Overall, it is a very nice car. Perfect for a young family. But I am old and want something better.

I purchased a 2.0T SE, I love the gas mileage and power but these cars have had hundreds complains concerning the steering. If there is a crown in the road at highway speeds, the car will pull hard towards it. Please test drive yours if you're thinking of buying! In the left highway lane. Hyundai is not fixing the problem.

Wandering Sonata Syndrome

I've had my Sonata SE for 3 week. Next week is the third visit to the dealer for what Jalopnik called "Wandering Sonata Syndrome". Search "wandering" on Jalopnik for a full explanation. I would not buy a Sonata until this fix this issue... if they can. It's been an issue since 2010. The dealers have no idea how to fix it. It's a serious design flaw that causes your car to wander on the road and not drive straight. My car pulls right when you let off the accelerator. And, it pulls left when you are on the accelerator. Needless to say, I am happy to live in California with a good Lemon Law. Too bad Hyundai still has issues... I thought they had moved beyond their past.

At 18K miles. I love the look of the car, very high class. I love to drive the car, handles, accelerates, performs excellently. I get 27-28 miles to the gallon driving 50 miles to work. 10 miles @ 70 mph, 30 miles @ 60-65 mph and the rest in town. I came out of a Jeep Commander so all the things above are delightful. Cons; there is no lumber support so Ive had to buy a contraption to be more comfortable. I have my seat high which may be why I feel like the vents dont blow all the places I want them to. My ring has gouged the rubber off my steering wheel a couple of places. Road noise, and if anything, a bug or rain, hits the top of the car it sounds like a tin shed, and many rattles

Let me first say the design of this car is gorgeous. Very sleek lines, premium appearance, great power but Hyundai has messed up big time with all the issues this vehicle has! I had to replace my engine on the car because it blew in the middle of be driving. I replace it and BANG! STILL problems from under the hood. Poor acceleration, sometimes no acceleration, Very loud engine sounds, engine lights not turning off even when everything have been replaced. I have put over $2,000 of work into this car and right when you fix it, something else pops up!! DO NOT BUY THIS CAR, IT IS MY WORST REGRET!

2011 Sonata Turbo - Inherent Rattle that Hyundai says is expected.

The car is fantastic with one minor flaw that you may run into: The car Rattles when going between 2000-3500 RPM. There is a TSB from Hyundai stating that the rattle is expected and they won't fix it: During normal engine operation, natural engine vibrations are transmitted to the turbocharger waste gate actuator rod, the pivot point, and the waste gate valve. The rattle or buzzing sound that may occur results from the required tolerances in the waste gate pivot point and the waste gate valve. These tolerances are necessary to allow operation under the extreme operating temperatures experienced by the turbocharger. This is unacceptable. I hate that I bought this car.

Hyundai makes absolute junk! I have a 2011 Sonata where the engine completely failed at 61,000 miles with ZERO warning. A quick Google search let me know I wasn't the only sucker that got stuck with one of the worst engines since the Internal Combustion engine was developed. Let the Buyer beware! Buy this heap at your own risk. You will regret it. I hope the company goes bankrupt.

Other than a bit too much road noise, doors that are heavy and seem hard to keep open to exit, this has been a great road car: very dependable, comfortable on long trips, holds LOTS of luggage (I moved my elderly mother from her home in the country to an apartment in town and couldn't believe how much I could get in this car with the seat backs down in back), good speakers, handy front-seat storage, and enough power to go over the mountains, yet maintain a decent mileage.

what started off as a great looking, good fuel economy and decent performer has morphed into a money pit. this car was purchased new in 2011 and currently has 73k/miles; it has been serviced only at the dealer and highway driven. the car's stereo screen went out about a year ago and since it was over their "select" electronic warranty, i would have to replace it - cost $800 installed. on top of this slap to the face, the new part would have a 1 yr/12k warranty. if the original factory piece went out after 1 year, then why wouldn't the new one? now the shifter doesn't recognize the vehicle is in park all of the time when you park it. not covered & cost over $300 for a non essential part.

Just purchased the Limited 2.0T model tonight... put 75 miles on it and must say I like it. The car is quiet, smooth, peppy and is averaging about 26 mpg so far in a mix of driving. Love the bluetooth interface and all the luxury items you get with the Limited trim. I think someone said headroom was tight in this car in some review...not true. I'm 6'2" and have plenty of head and leg room. Do wish it had memory seats though. I still think it's the best bang for the buck on the market...hands down. I'll update again after I've driven it for 6 to 12 months and we'll see if anything changes.

Bought this Hyundai Sonata (2011 GLS) new. Thought I would try a Hyundai since seeing all the TV ads about their quality. The Ride is hard. Radio FM tuner sound quality is marginal at best. Radio was replaced due to display fading issue(research on web for more details). Having issues with the engine pinging while accelerating. Only 19K miles on engine, and trying to get it fixed at dealer is not going well.

I purchased this car last year with about 68 thousand miles after I had a big problem with Kia Motors. From a good dealership ( I'm going to let there name be nameless. So I get the car man I was in love with this car but I was 10 grand upside down so I say what the heck go for it.... So I did and y'all ( you have to excuse me I'm from Texas... Lol) when I tell you this car is crap from the start for my relationship. When I first purchased the car I had the motor mounts and the front wheel assembly replaced ball bearings and struts and shock all in a 35 thousand miles I had the car... But wait you have not heard the bad part so 9/10/2015 my car engine starts to knock and falls dead at this point I'm thinking bad gas oh no I take the car home and guess what there is a letter in the mailbox stating that my Sonata is safety hazard and they may have to change out the entire engine and car could stall at any time so okay no big deal right? Call Hyundai report what happened to the car no big deal... Wrong so Hyundai sets me Up a appointment with the local Hyundai dealer. Ok well since than time I had my mechanic look at the car and he told me that it is metal shavings in my intake and if Hyundai is replacing the motor that I might want to give them a call to make sure that I will have a loaner while me call is being serviced with the recalls.. Nope Hyundai says no and that basically I'm stuck driving this safety hazard till they figure out what's going on. This car is my only transportation to and from work and to get my self to my doctors appointments I have lupus so I have to have a car... I'm so upset that Hyundai will not help me?????

We Bought my 2011 Hyundai Sonota Limited 2.0 Turbo New in Nov. 2011! It Has been a great car with a few Hiccups along the way, as do all other vehicles. All service and Oil changes have been done at Dealer except for maybe 10% oil changed in my hometown! All Recalls have been done, I had the Clock Spring fixed for round $500, then it was Recalled, and I sent Hyundai my Receipts ( Thank God I saved them) and they refunded me for all of it! I have had to get the Turbo Actuater adjusted 3 times now, at round $150 a pop, we have replaced the head gasket for leakage ($200),sunroof started leaking(it was just stopped up), Oh and the (A) on the Sonata emblem has fallen off somewere, and that's basically the only things that has been wrong with it...Now, I have About 196,000 miles on it and the Motor has started Knocking for the first time & the Check Engine Light did come on, So, I called our Dealer in NLR, Arkansas and the Service Manager, Miranda, said to NOT DRIVE IT...& immediately sent A Tow Truck (Paid for by Hyundai) in April 2021 to pick it up that same day! We Do Live 1 & A Half Hrs. away. She said there's a recall on the Motor knocking and is Hazardous if Driven. Now I am on waiting list for a Loaner Car from the dealership .. and The SM says they are waiting on Hyundai to Tell them what and when to do whith my car..So, Now we Wait Patiently..The SM did say the Warrenty was extended for these Failed motors to 125,000 miles/10 yrs, but they should fix mine for free Cuz we've had 90% of our service done by the Dealer and Hyundai has been fixing most all the failed motors cuz they are a Hazard to be driven, no matter the milage..I love this car and Hope this Review Helps others whose Motor starts Knocking. This Dealership is Crain Hyundai in North Little Rock, Arkansas, and They have always been good with our car.

Turbocharged is the only way to go!

Bought a 2011 Sonata 2.0 Turbo Limited used with 90k. I’m surprised at the complaints about the ride and quality as mine has been flawless for the past 3 years and 30k more miles! This 2.0 Turbocharged engine is powerful and will blow the doors off many sports cars. The suspension is tight and predictable! Express way ramps are a breeze at 60mph and merging at full throttle is addictive! A top speed of 150mph is capable quickly with 275 horsepower in this nimble handling car. People stop and ask me what’s under the hood all the time. I run this car hard and it just laughed at me and asked for more! I’m definitely happy with this car and wouldn’t hesitate to buy another. Yes it’s had recalls but what’s to cry about? It’s all free anyway! My engine has 130k on it and all I have done is spark plugs and a valve cover gasket for $65 in parts. Anybody can install these themselves. I also gave it four brand new Hankook Sticky tires and run full synthetic oil every 5k. If you buy one have it professionally inspected and keep up on the maintenance. It’s a great value and I still love driving it everyday!

I bought this car as a certified vehicle with 20,000 miles from a Hyundai dealer. The initial quality was very good. However the materials particularly in the interior are cheap. By right about 50K miles the rubberized coating on the steering wheel as well as window/door lock controls was coming off. Not by misuse as I keep my car meticulously clean but just because of poor quality materials. The paint on the factory aluminum wheels also started flaking off somewhere around this time. I had this car until 118,000 miles and replaced front brakes 3 times along with front ball joints twice. Also lets not forget the 8-10 recalls I had to drive to the dealer to have fixed. It's pretty clear why you can buy one of these for thousands and thousands less than a Toyota or Honda.

I am amazed at the power of the 2.o engine. I have owned nothing but v-8 mustangs for the last twenty years with my last one being a 2000 gt. Once you are going, this car accelerates just as hard as my last mustang (and gets ten miles per gallon better mileage). Cornering is a little scary. I dont have much feel for the road in this car. It is quite responsive and agile for a car this size. Without diving it more it is just hard to tell where its limits are. Me and my kids love the heated front and rear seats. If the seats were any more comfortable they would probably be illegal for auto use. People would be falling asleep.

I have had this car for about ten weeks and am pleased. This car is an excellent value. The GLS model comes with all the bells and whistles standard, including USB, Bluetooth (both phone and MP3/Pandora capability), steering wheel radio controls, manual-override 6-speed transmission, etc. And Hyundai Assurance and the 100k mile warranty. It is comfortable and smooth to drive. Well-built. My quibbles are in visibility - the B-pillar is chunky and the rear visibility is horrendous. I also quibble that you can't disable XM, forcing you to flip through all three stations on the wheel. If you want leather or a sunroof, go for a higher package but you can't beat the GLS for the money

I went and test drove this car today. Immediately when I sat in it, it was incredibly comfortable. I'm 6'4" and there is more than enough room and the seats are perfect. It took no time at all for me to find a comfortable driving position unlike most other cars I've driven or drive where it takes several times of driving to get comfortable. The acceleration with the 2.0 Turbo is fantastic, I barely tapped the gas and I was at 80. It rode so well down the road. The car also has a strong and solid feel. Now since I've only test drove it and don't own one YET I'm not sure how reliability is. I'm sure its fine since all the other reviews haven't said anything too bad, but only time will tell.

This vehicle has become a HUGE dissapointment ! I bought a 2011 Hyundai Sonata in April, and just drove it in snow yesterday. I wonder if their engineers forgot to test it in winter conditions? The traction control and all-weather tires were utterly useless, and it skidded around more than the Cavalier, Sunfire, Saab or Venture in the family. Dreadful. An embarrassment for them. I live in Michigan - it's flat. We're not talking mountainous roads here. It's currently parked in a grocery store lot; and I had to get a ride home .... in a 20 year old GM product. I'll be shopping for snowtires tonight, but it seems like that's just a bandaid on woefully poor design. If you live in the northern or

Design: The car is beautiful inside and out, and the paint is still shiny. The ergonomics are great. The materials are decent, but the seat is uncomfortable. MPG: In mixed driving, I average 24 MPG. On the highway, I get 35 MPG. Engine: For a four-cyl, it moves nicely, but man it is LOUD! Transmission: Smooth as silk. Handling: The worst part of the car. Its like there's a marshmallow holding the steering wheel to the wheels. So numb. The ride is jittery as well. Brakes are a-ok. Aging: The car feels much cheaper now compared to three years ago. The engine is loud after 1.5k RPMs. Several rattles have developed in the cabin.

I've owned this car for 6 months and 7900 miles. So far, here are my impressions: Pros: Great combination of power and fuel economy, great looking body, well executed and very comfortable interior, large number of features for the price. Cons: Electric power steering doesn't have the best feel, road noise (tires) is louder than it should be, my car has the slight left pull issue that comes-and-goes with tire rotations, 18" wheels with low profile tires are very sensitive to road irregularities, too easy to scrape 18" wheels on curbs, car wash guides, etc.

Use: commuter Load: 3 person totaling ~650 lb, avg 6 ft Distance: ~360 Miles per week Road: NY/NJ 80% highway Comfort: Good fit, lots of room, seats could be better but strangely I (driver) feel more comfortable now than when I first bought it. Passengers have not complained. Ergonomics: Excellent. I only do not like trunk/gas release buttons. They should be lit or redesigned. Performance: Must watch your speed, car cruises at 90+. I drive hard and no body roll, under/over steer, break fatigue or other common problems. Manual is great, 3rd gear could be stronger. Entertainment: remember this is stock. I like it if you do not blast it.

I can't say enough about this car. It has the style I want in a limited edition and the class I expect. I have 45,000 miles on it now and haven't had a single problem. It drives so smoothly and is quiet even on the interstate. I wish the newer models were as sharp looking as this and I would definitely trade it in. My car payment is worth every penny on this vehicle.

Besides the countless amount of recalls. Two weeks ago driving in the highway the car engine seized no warning signs at all. Thank goodness i was able to get the car off to the side w 2 children in the car. The warranty doesn't cover it because I'm the 2nd owner. Which is frustrating bc the internet is full of the same compliant. Damn even the mechanic said it was the 4th one he seen in a month same issue. Obviously its a defect Hyundai should stand up and help their customers. Car is sitting at dealers and I still owe 2 more years

My previous three cars have been Nissan Maximas. And while I have been satisfied with the ride and dependability of that car, I felt like I wanted something different. After reading all of the reviews and having test drives of some pretty good competitors, I chose the Sonata turbo. To me, the interior is as nice as the Mercedes C300 and nicer than the Lexus IS250 that I tested. The price was unbelievable for all of the options that I got (Limited, Turbo, nav system, Nitrogen filled tires). My purchasing experience was excellent and the warranty is great. I have had the car three days and it performs beautifully. I am very pleased with my purchase.

Traded my 2003 Camry SE, this car is great the fuel economy is great I'm getting mid to low 30's. The interior layout is great everything you need is at the tip of your fingers on the steering wheel. Power is good for a four banger. I have owned this car for 3 months and have a little over 4000 miles. I'm hoping I have the same luck I had out of my 03 camry not a problem one. I keep my cars 8+ years. The one complaint I would have is the drivers seat is a little uncomfortable at first but the lumbar support helped greatly. At this point I'd recommend this car to anyone looking for a family sedan. If you'd asked me years ago I'd never thought about buying a Hyundai, build quality is great.

My husband and I purchased this car in 2014 after his previous Sonata met it's end. Lasting almost 300,000 miles without an issue, he wanted another Sonata. We bought the 2011 Sonata used and it was a great car at first. Unfortunately, within the last year, the car has become more of a headache than anything. We have had it at the dealer 4 times in the past year, and it's there now. The first time, Hyundai claimed they couldn't find anything wrong and we were sent home. Check engine light came on again within a month, and they figured out something needed to be replaced in the transmission. The third time, the check engine light came on and we also had to replace the starter in the car, with only 60k miles on it. Now the car is in the shop again, and the airbag light is on this time. Thankfully we purchased an extended warranty on the car and it has paid to fix everything thus far. There have been 4 recalls on the car since we purchased it, and it's a pain to have to take off work to keep putting the car in the shop. I've also done research on the air bag issue and apparently it requires a new air bag that costs $1200 and isn't covered by the warranty which is a SAFETY HAZARD that Hyundai isn't doing anything about despite many complaints. I want to sell this car and get something WAY more reliable. This car is a POS. STAY AWAY!

We purchased our Sonata Limited in November 2010. The car is approaching 5000 miles now with mostly around town driving but several 250 mile plus trips. We moved into the Hyundai from a 1999 Toyota Avalon. We had test driven almost every model out there. Honda Accord, Toyota Camry and Avalon, Mazda, Ford, Chevy Nissan. Everyone had issues that kept us going back to the Sonata. I think the word here is "balance". This car is a value and I was willing to spend a whole lot more. I did not want to pay for Lexis, BMW, Acura features. We don't feel anything is missing. We did not opt for the Navigation system. Our Magellan GPS works great in the cubby below the HVAC controls.

Sonata GLS - Third Review

I bought this vehicle new in June 2011, having traded in a 2009 Sonata. At the time it represented a substantial advance on the prior line in styling, content, power, and mileage. The content for the price point was compelling. Also, I had found only a couple of competitors in the midsize segment had a comfortable drivers seat. Although I can afford to buy a new, more expensive vehicle now, I've decided to hold onto this because it is bulletproof. There have been NO REPAIRS needed on it and no need to go to the dealer (The HYUNDAI dealers are a bit of a shifty lot). I replaced front brakes at 72,000 miles and the rear brakes yesterday at 82,000 miles. I've had to replace a battery, tires, a headlight, and a bulb - that's it, in almost 6 years. It's a comfortable ride whether on highway or local, although a bit more wind noise than I'd like. Specifiec Comments: The satellite radio is great, good sound and reception, however, the CD player is only fair. The AC and heat are adequate. The trunk is enormous. I don't use the back seat except for the dog, but it is large and comfortable. The front passenger seat position is low, but they rectified that in the '12. Plenty of power for me. To get the EPA 35 on the highway, you have to go a steady 60-65, at 70-75, I get high 20s. The Bluetooth works OK but is a bit finicky in connecting the contacts on your phone. The car feels very safe, has good power, is comfortable, inexpensive to buy and to own.

I recently got my GLS and logged just under 1,000 miles on it. The car looks good inside and out. It's roomier than my old Mitsubishi Galant. But the steering wheel is very stiff. My Galant was much smoother on the handling. Then engine is late coming off the red lights but I can't knock it too much being a 4 cylinder. My Sonata pulls to the right instead of the left and the pull comes and goes. The Bluetooth is great but the voice recognition stinks. I thought it was my accent but I had my daughter test it and it stunk just as much. In the first thousand miles I have not seen better than 29 MPG. Maybe I need to drive some more before it starts to produce.

Major problems from the start. Navigation/radio total failure. Gear shift stopped working-froze in park. Recently air bag malfunction. Now the engine failed. Burns oil and rod knock with no warning. Need a new engine but Hyundai is initially refusing to back its warranty because I cannot product every oil/filter receipt (sometimes had private mechanic change). Research has led me to an investigation into class action suit for engine failure by Chimicles & Tikellis. Good to know that I am not alone. Hyundai is like the cable company - once you are a customer they don't care. Should have gone with Honda or Toyota and will do so going forward.

All I can say is WOW! I did not test drive this car, I bought it online and had it delivered to me at work. I was a little worried about it only being a 4cyl. But to my surprize this car has the get up and go to pass anything on the road. It rides and handles great, I live in the ozark mountains and it is darn right fun to drive through the curves, climbs the mountains without hesitation. I get 34 mpg through the mountains and got as high as 37mpg on flat land with cruise. some of the plastic in the interior could be better grade, but for the money this is one sweet ride. I used to have a lexus SC400 and I rate the sonata right up there with it!

Since buying the car I've had a wind noise at the front doors. I've been to the dealer 8 times to try to get this fixed. They adjusted my door one time but it didn't help. I drove a different Sonata today with a service writer and even the new one had the same annoying noise. He said he hears it, but never noticed it until I pointed it out. I called Hyundai consumer affairs and am waiting to see what they will do for me. I told them I'd like then to buy the car back. I've never been more unhappy with a car. If not for this one problem, I would be very pleased with it. Be sure to take the actual one you are going to buy for a test drive first and pay attention to wind noise.

The mileage is amazing, about 47 MPG (Canadian) on the highways, in the city I get about 31 MPG (Canadian). The vehicle is quiet unless under hard acceleration. This is one of the smoothest cars I have ever owned and there is not even a glitch of a problem to be found on this vehicle. If you get one, get it fully loaded with the Turbo !
