pulling issue

In June of 2011 I purchased a sonata with 40 miles on it. since day 1 it has had a pulling issue. Struts have been replaced, camber bolt kit has been tried. New tires settle the pull issue mostly but still has problems and does not drive straight. Key cylinder has been replaced due to key sticking. Gas gauge has been replaced because it showed I always needed gas, even when i just fueled up. I have argues the pulling issue with dealearship since day 1. I am being told there is nothing wrong with the vehicle. All my family and mech. friends have driven this car with the same feelings as mine. Something is wrong!! It definetly does not drive straight. Horrible customer service.

Overall this is an an amazing car and an excellent value. I drive 400 to 500 miles a week on average and it is very comfortable and gets great gas mileage for the size. I am on my 7th tank of gas and averaging 31-32mpg. Gas mileage goes down quite a bit when speeds exceed 65 and I have gotten 35+ when driving 55-65mph with the cruise control on. Road noise is pretty low most of the time but the low rolling resistance tires can be rather loud on rough road surfaces. For the price this car is an amazing value and is fun to drive and very practical.

Competent Family Car

2011 Hyundai Sonata SE 4dr Sedan (2.4L 4cyl 6A)

Stylish car that needs more substance. Although a good effort, still not class leading. Steering feel is a well known issue for modern Hyundai's. It feels extremely numb. The powertrain is very powerful. Get decent gas mileage around 25 mpg combined. Interior materials are nice although the center console plastics are rather cheap and the blue lighting at night is hard to read at a glance. Owned the car since November 2010. Other than routine service, I had to have the rear-view mirror replaced, the A/C actuator fixed, a new key fob. Fairly reliable and holding up well. Car at 29,000 miles.

I traded in a 2009 Hyundai Sonata Limited. The new 2011 Hyundai Sonata Limited is more than I expected. The car is more comfortable than any I have owned in recent past. At highway speeds it holds the road securely. The Radiant Silver exterior is handsome and the black leather interior is the perfect contrast. The Dimension sound system is clear and balanced and a huge improvement. The car has everything one could ask for except navigation. I have a Garmin GPS for that. What a great automobile. Hyundai does it right!

Purchased this 2011 Sonata LTD Turbo a few weeks ago. Rides great, looks fantastic, (venetian red) but, it drifts to the left. Took it back to have alignment checked and repaired, was out of specs. But now still drifts to the left but not as bad and seems to do it only/mostly when accelerating. Will change lane in 1/4 mile. Dealer stated that it's due to the front wheel drive "torque"?? Awaiting meeting with factory rep. This is not one that falls in the recall for steering column problems. That's why I gave it a 6 in "fun to drive"

I was initially undecided on whether to buy the Sonata or it's sister, the Kia Optima. Kia also had an impressive exterior. The interior did not impress me at all. (Dash & console) I believe Hyundai just has better resale value to. I viewed the base auto GLS but had to add a few options, such as power seat, alloy wheels. Along with Bluetooth on the steering wheel. I've owned close to 20 cars in my life. Including a brand new 89' Sonata. This car is the most luxurious and well appointed vehicle I have owned and for the least money.

Suspension Lets car down

I've had the car for 1 yr now with about 15k mi. This is my 13th car owned, and I really like a lot of things about this car. The engine is very powerful for a 4cy, but can be a bit noisy. Like all the features for the price and the styling inside & out. Have 3 major gripes, tires are extremely noisy over certain surfaces, can be really annoying but only over certain surfaces. But the main problem is the suspension, after careful thought it is unacceptably firm. Car hits potholes really, really hard, feels horrible. Enough to the point that I don't enjoy the car b/c of it. Lastly steering is lifeless and vague. Think I would have enjoyed the GLS or Limited more, but Se does look great!

Looks Great! Drives So So

I have my Sonata for 6 months now and still find the styling inside and out to be a real eye-catcher. However, driving the car is a completely different experience. I have complained to the dealer twice in 3000 miles about the poor shifting and jerky acceleration during normal driving. The transmission slips and jerks on most upshifts. The road noise and handling can certainly use improvement. Too much tire noise and car tends to wander. It does, however, get excellent gas mileage both around town (28 mpg) and on the highway (36.5 mpg)

I've had my Limited w/nav for over 2 months now and haven't had a single problem. On strictly hwy driving, I've gotten 41.2 mpg @65-70 mph. Averaging 27.2 mpg overall. In dash mpg readout is almost identical to the mpg when I figure it manually. Comments on noisy tires are probably due to the fact that they are low rolling resistance tires for better mpg. Still, this car is quieter than the Acura TL I traded in. As for the ride, the Sonata rides better than the aforementioned Acura TL. No rattles, no squeaks, no problems with fit and finish, no leather seat issues, etc. The adaptive transmission has not given me any issues and shifts up/down almost unnoticeable. 100% satisfied with the Sonata

Love the car, but bumper is flimsy

Mpg is great-36-39 on a trip, ride is comfortable, looks modern. Big drawback or design flaw -if you scrape the front bumper you don't have just a cosmetic problem. On driver's side we didn't have any collision or bump and it separated from the fender. We scraped the bumper on a curb on the passenger side while backing out and the entire bumper separated from the body of the car. It is held on by tiny flimsy tongue in groove construction like a snap together kid's toy. We were going about 2 miles per hour. Were told that the bumper would have to be replaced. This is our second sonata (2007 which we loved) but this one is poorly constructed and bumper is poorly designed, too low on sides

Absolutely amazed with the quality of this beast. 4000 miles no rattles no problems. Couple of complaints minor - don't crack the windows in the rain --you will get wet -- the elbow padding could be better -- and the electric steering - I seem to be chasing it alot to keep it straight. 32.7 ave mpg 80 miles a day highway 5 city. Pretty good not as good as my civic but much more comfortable.

Great mileage at 41 mpg - we drive almost exclusively long highway miles. Have had car for 2 months with 6 "no- start" ignition events and 2 trips to dealer about it. Second servicing seems to have fixed it - something to do with a harness connection with the brake, which needs to be depressed to start engine.

This car is a head above it's competition and has now set the bench mark. I am disappointed that the 6 speed manual is designated to the low bucks crowd. No reason for not being able to get a power sunroof and alloy wheels as a factory option on the GLS or make the 6 speed available on the SE. Other than this packaging issue Hyundai has done a great job with this car.

My family and I loved this car so much. My mother bought a fully loaded "limited" and my brother and I bought a fully loaded "se". We even bought an extra 2011 gls. Are we crazy. "yes". Crazy about this car. It has the looks, fun to drive and all the goodies that put it's competition to shame. Go test drive each one. All (3) have a little difference in the way they drive. Also. In regards to the recent review about a "failed transmission". Hyundai's warranty's would fix his transmission issue or give him a new car. Because he didn't mention this. Makes me Wonder if it is a "bogus" review.

This is my 3rd car overall and 1st new car just coming out of college. And I am impressed. I am 6'8" and am quite comfortable in this vehicle. The leg room is not quite as much as my 2004 Impala but it is definitely very good for a sedan. So, you tall guys out there have nothing to worry about. Also, the interior design looks great! The 2010 Sonata had a nice interior design and they blew that away here with a sleek and luxurious looking design. The XM radio and Aux cable is great I can charge my Zune and run everything through USB and that is nice. The XM radio is good for sports radio but ah. The exterior speaks for itself. The looks I get and the compliments go get one!

I've had a Lexus RX SUV for about 4 years now. Even though a new RX is priced almost $20k higher than the 2011 Sonata Limited that I now own as well, I find myself making apples-to-apples comparisons between the two on a daily basis. Strange as it may seem, the comparisons come out even more often than not. The fit and finish of the Sonata is comparable to the Lexus in nearly every way, with the possible exception being that the leather seating on the Lexus is a little more supple. I'm sort of a tech junkie, and the Sonata's nav system with its upgraded speakers and backup camera really hooked me. The system's integration really makes driving a lot more safe in today's times.

I'll try not to get too excited and...well, I give up. This car is simply AMAZING in EVERY ASPECT! Excellent MPG? Check. Great Looks? Check. Good Power? Check. Great Interior? Check. Value? You've got to be kidding me. I dare anyone to come remotely close with a car that is more pleasing to the eye and features at a price that's say, $10,000 MORE than this GEM of a car. When Hyundai first came to U.S., I made the mistake of owning an Excel. Swore that I'll never buy another car from them. Well, how times have changed! BTW, I've owned Lexus, Lincoln, Ford, Toyota, Subaru, Suzuki, Jeep and Honda. Nothing, nothing compares at any price. I just love driving or simply staring at my car

Bought my 2011 Limited in Feb.'10. Traded from an Accord EX-L. Should have kept the Accord. Traded back three months later to an Accord. The Sonata wasn't a bad car but MUCH preferred how an Accord handles and holds the road. The Sonata had a lot of features and value for the money and for some people it may be a great car. It wasn't for me. Had some issues with the muffler and build quality problems inside the cabin that the dealer was unable to make right, in my opinion. I've found there is less risk with Honda quality and resale value for sure. I may consider a Hyundai down the road but for now, ill pass on the Sonata. Hyundai def. has come a long way and I hope they keep going!

This was my very first new car. I was very pleased with the price. I got the Hyundai employee discount. I only paid about $16,800 for a brand new vehicle! I love the gas mileage and look, however, I do am not pleased with the vehicle. My car is only a year old and I have had SEVERAL issues with it. My door fram has peeled twice, my steerling wheel has peeled, my horn quit working, my light buttons stick and on top of this my engine tries to stall upon excelleration( which they still have not fixed because they said it isn't showing up on the computer) Its annoying to have to contine to drive 100 miles round trip to get it fixed all of the time. Its a new car..shouldn't be happening.:(:(:(

I purchased my new Sonata 2.0T in the middle of June and just loved it until this week. We were coming to a stop and the car stalled out and we coasted to the stop. I noticed that there were 2 warning lights on - engine and another one. The car was idling but there was not throttle response. Nothing. I turned it off and then restarted it. Now only the engine light was on and the throttle had response. The dealer found codes 2118 & 2110 but couldn't find the problem. They just erased the codes. This is a safety item for sure. If I was on the highway and this happened, we could have been rear ended. This car had less than 1500 kms. Beware!

70k MILES.....MINE HAS BEEN VERY RELIABLE

PROS: RELIABILITY: I do realize the Theta 2.4L engines have had engine seizure problems. As a result of a class action suit, these cars now have an extended warranty out to 125,000 miles on the drive train. Warranty is transferable to second owner only, and I have that in writing in an email from Hyundai. I don’t understand these reviews suggesting anyone paid for an engine failure unless they are >2nd owners....this is supposed to be covered as a result of the suit. I plan to hold Hyundai to their warranty with an attorney, if need be. But otherwise, almost nothing ever breaks or goes wrong on this car. I’ve owned 20 cars in my life and this is one of the most reliable cars I’ve had. I change my own oil and filter at frequent intervals, usually with Castrol or Valvoline and a little Marvel Mystery Oil. Used to buy conventional oil and change every 3K, but since 30k my engine is now broken in, so I buy synthetic and change every 5K. PERFORMANCE: My 2.4L motor runs like a top with good pep. Starts every time. No codes. Always passes smog easily. APPEARANCE: Car has never been garaged and is rarely waxed, yet ten years of harsh California sun later, the white pearl paint still looks like new. ECONOMY: I never obsess about gas mileage but based on dash computer I seem to be getting >24mpg on regular gas. I prefer Chevron or 76 gas, but also buy Shell since that’s closest and just put a bottle of Techron in the tank once in awhile. HANDLING: Very ok. I buy only high rated tires so it’s probably better than most, and it’s front wheel drive, so there’s pretty good traction on the drive wheels. CONS: STEERING: Really do not care for the steering in this car. Car seems to want to center the steering wheel at all times. My friend’s Altima is much more neutral and I prefer how his car handles. Mine feels like too much positive caster. Not a big problem in day to day driving, but on trips it gets tiring on your wrists. The caster is not adjustable on this car. COMFORT: Seats do not swallow up road bumps well. My cloth seats feel cheap. A ripped seat seam was the first real issue other than stuff covered by warranty or normal wear and tear (battery, tires). Seam ripped open about 10 inches long, starting at airbag tag and up to shoulder height. Seat contains an airbag, so a seat cover or DYI stitching fix were not viable options. I bought a new OEM seat cover online, exactly matching the original, and installed it myself. This fix cost about $400 less than my local dealer would have soaked me for parts and labor. Took about 3-4 hrs total, but 1/2 hour was spent just cleaning and vacuuming under driver seat, which I pulled out to do the repair. I cleaned the carpet with club soda and beat the driver floor mat like a rug as well. CLIMATE CONTROL: HVAC controls are good but fixed an issue with air conditioner fan not turning on. Fan was fine but turned out to be a problem with the Hyundai Sonata Auxiliary Fan Resistor, 25385-07550, located in the radiator shroud. In my case, the part was dirty and simply required a light cleaning. INTERIOR: Steering wheel bezel coating was scratching off due to wear from rings I wear. I was able to replace the scratched piece with Steering Wheel Trim Cover Bezel Left For 2011-14 Hyundai Sonata purchased online. AC works now. Climate controls are good. Steering wheel looks good. DEALERS: I don't have a good impression of Hyundai dealer support. I see other reviews talk of complaints being ignored or defects being shined on. They usually mess with me, but I'll admit, I do mention the word lawyer occasionally and they know I mean it.

I have really loved my 2011 dark gray sonata. It drives great and it looks even better! The design change they did that year was fabulous! I am 5’2” and my husband is 6’2”. This car’s driver seat adjusts so much that we can both drive it comfortably! I am now buying a 2013 Sonata LE because we have enjoyed this car so much! It has had its share of safety recalls, but I take it to dealer and they do the change and I haven’t had any major problems in the over 8 years I have had it.

72777 miles and its business as usual. No complaints, 1 re-call fixed at the dealer (noticed an engine smell in the car - was an oil leak between the engine and the turbo, easily fixed under warranty/re-call). I still service & maintain the car at Hyundai's recommended intervals. So far my Sonata 2.0T has been fast and reliable. The engine/gearbox combination is the best! I average around 23 mpg. I love the nav and all the gizmos. Still happy! Sold the car in March of 2017.. bought a Hyundai Elantra GT with all the extras. Happy but really miss that 2.0T with 6 speed paddle shift!

This is my third or fourth review on this same car since buying it 17 months ago. There's a crackling/rattling noise from the front which the dealer tried to address by tightening something and that hasn't worked. The alignment is still off although my original tires are still usable at 28k miles. Most recently there's been excessive road noise and I can't figure out what it is. The ride feels cheap, it's awful going over bumps, i don't ilke the feel and sound of the swooshing steering wheel. all in all, i think the value is still good on paper when you consider the features on the base model compared to the accord or camry. i most likely will be turning this in at lease end.

Wish I'd waited until they got all the bugs out of the new design. Got a 2011 limited w/ sunroof as soon as they came out. Bro-in-law got identical one next day after seeing mine. March 2011, sunroof defective and pass. floorboard soaked! Bro-in-law had same problem. Took them 2wks to fix before got mine back. Bro-in-law took his back 4x before leak stopped! Walked out Sunday and soaked again!(nothing left cracked open). Both of us have had issues with push button starter (he took his in was so bad). During hotter months, my kids burn up in the back with A/C on full blast! Appreciate the mpg but gosh-car is a year old with less than 14k miles on it!!! Anybody else having leak prob?

All in all, I'm 16 months and 16K miles in. This car makes me smile every time I drive it. Engine was a little coarse at first and transmission seemed a little balky at first (no biggies, though) but latest engine/transmission flash makes things smooth as buttah! My only regret is that I ddin't get one w/Nav but there are some after market kits coming available now.

I have about 40,000 miles on my sonata and have not had one problem. Aside from replacing the brake pads, that's the only work it's had to have. It will be a sad day when I have to sell this car. I absolutely love how it drives. It is quiet, and everyone who drives it always remarks how great it handles and how fun it is to drive.

What's not to like: I scored build quality a 9, because I've owned Mercedes, BMW, MINI, many VWs and the quality is one notch less, barely. That said, I just sat in an '09 C- class and the Hyundai equals it. To get the most out of the 4 banger you must use your manual shift option-- especially in the mountains, but it makes it a must more involved driving experience.

I have owned the 2011 Hyundai Sonata GLS for about 1.5 years now. Since I commute to work and school every day, I have put about 45k miles on the car for less than two years. So far, never had any problems with the car. Only went to the dealership for regular oil changes. Nothing has fallen apart or had issues mechanically. Maintanance costs were very affordable and staffs were super friendly. Been getting approximately 25~28 mpg for city and up to 38mpg for highway. Car is comfortable, picks speed up at the freeway pretty well. Overall, I give my car a 5 star. Previously, I have owned Hondas, Mercedes, Toyotas and Volkswagens, but I would have to say, I am very happy with my Hyundai.

I bought this car after two other Hyundai's with VERY high hopes. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. From the moment I took delivery, the infamous glove box squeak. Rattles, out of place trim pieces, and other ungodly noises from everywhere. With upgraded audio, doors rattle at volume. Ride is EXTREMELY rough in this vehicle at all trim levels. The positive? It does extremely well in an an accident. I rear-ended a girl going nearly 40 miles per hour; the airbag deployed and the front-end crumpled exactly as designed. I walked away with ZERO injuries; not even a scratch. Those that have come to appreciate Hyundais value-oriented quality will be disappointed by this car.

Hyundai does not stand behind what they make. The 100k warranty is a joke. Talk about a noisy ride and a rattle box! They are no Toyota. I am waiting for the electrical problems to start. Stay away from Keffer Hyundai of Charlotte!

The disappointing part: before I bought it, Consumer Reports said to use caution when purchaseing a vehicle in its first year of redo and updating., (2011 in this case). I loved this car right away with all the technology, comfort, easy access to controls, over the top temperature comfort. I sit on a pillow to give me better views, not conducive for short/medium dirivers. expecially when checking out windows traffic , blind spots seem to be a challenge. I wish there were some high tech sollution (standard equipment) to this problem. I took off the rear head support restraint so I could see a little better. But as with everything you adjust to mangage the drawback. Standard safety equipment should be standard in every similar vehicles with the same challenges. My love affair became strained when I checked for recalls and tech reports. Their were approx 10 RECALLS. of which few could be fixed, but they couldn,t get repair parts to repair the problems. I have had steering coupling ordered for 7 months. The driving mechanisms is deteriating, expect to send me into the drink! I check Carflex, they already show "12 reports". One man RECALLS, I am cautioned about hight risk of loss of control, lose brakes, chance of fire. Scarry! WHAT CAN I DO?? CHECK LEMON LAW?? SELL IT TO ANOTHER SUCKER??

For all this in one car you can't beat the price. I drove an Accord and Mazda 6 and each of those cars with these options would have costs $5K - $6K more! Very impressed so far with my new car!

I'm 55 years old and have purchased many vehicles thru the years. My last being a 2006 Lincoln Zephyr/MKZ which is an " entry Luxury Car" This Sonata blows it away. When I first went for a test drive I was impressed when closing the door and hearing a beautiful "Thup" sound which showed me quality.I read EVERY review on the internet before I made the decision to purchase. Car is tight and drives with a heavy car feeling. Enough power, more then the Zephyr which is a 6 cyl. Beautiful in black. I was going to buy the 2010 Taurus which is also nice but to big and probably slow due to its weight. I cant believe I bought a Hyundai.

I just bought this base model vehicle and felt like i bought a loaded model. Toyota would never be so generous in a CE. Hands-free bluetooth is a great feature. Includes cruise control, and trip features. I got 30 mpg on my first tank of gas. It cruises like any other 4 cyl., but performs like a 6 cyl. when acceleration is required. Hyundai stepped its game up big time.

I just love my new Sonata. I went from a Jeep to this and I thought it was going to be hard, but the Sonota is so amazing! Great comfort in the ride, stylish design, and great gas mileage. I have only had it a week but I know that I am going to be pleased with it for a long time! We were debating between the GLS and the Limited. I recommend getting the Limited because of the extra features.

Pretty Comfy ride. SE is more rough, but the limited is smooth. I am confident that you can get a loaded Limited w/o nav for 23,5 or 24 as opposed to the MSRP. The engine though deceivingly small, is pretty powerful. People complain about not having a V-6, but unless you live in a hilly rural or suburban area, I don't see the point at all. I think Hyundai did good finally after all these years. They convinced me, and I admit I used to laugh at Hyundai until recently. Ultimately we bought this car for the safety, feel, warranty and looks. Can't comment about reliability just yet, although the Sonata has been doing good in the past couple of years. But we are very optimistic!
