2026 Hyundai IONIQ 9

The Hyundai Ioniq 9 is a brand-new three-row electric SUV capable of carrying either six or seven passengers. Three outputs are available across five trims in both rear- and all-wheel drive. Each is powered by a large 110-kWh battery offering a manufacturer-stated range of up to 335 miles (it did even better in our testing) and charge times from 10% to 80% are as low as 24 minutes on a 350-kW fast charger.

We're accustomed to Hyundais offering many features and strong overall value, but the Ioniq 9 breaks new ground in comfort, cargo and range. We like that the biggest Ioniq offers the key benefits of SUV ownership — great visibility and a commanding seating position — while being low enough to make getting in and out and cargo loading easy. Coupled with comfy seats and a plush ride that doesn't overly compromise its drivability, the Ioniq 9 strikes a delicate balance. What's more, both of our test vehicles exceeded their EPA-estimated range and charged at a rate that rivals the best EVs. And though it has a higher-capacity battery than its brother, the Kia EV9, it also offers more cargo space — a packaging enigma that we love. This is a cutting-edge eclectic SUV in almost every way.

Kia's EV9, the Ioniq's not-too-distant mechanical cousin, may also be its closest competitor. The EV9 looks sleeker but has less cargo space, less battery power, and lower total output in the upper trims. Tesla's Model Y offers a third-row seat, but its space is compromised compared to the Ioniq's. Otherwise, you're looking at upscale alternatives like the Rivian R1S or Tesla Model X, both of which are far more expensive.

The 2026 Hyundai Ioniq 9 is an electric three-row SUV available in five trims: S, SE, SEL, Limited and Calligraphy. The single-motor S trim is rear-wheel-drive and offers 215 horsepower. The SE adds a motor to the front axle for all-wheel drive and ups output to 303 horsepower. All other trims are all-wheel drive and offer 422 horsepower. Every Ioniq comes with a 110-kWh battery and offers more than 300 miles of range. Hyundai claims that the Ioniq 9 can charge from 10% to 80% in only 24 minutes using a 350-kW DC fast charger.
