still going strong

I bought this car used in 1993 with 20,000 miles. My husband and I drove the car until we thought it was on its last leg. I gave the car to my brother, and it is still going strong. That was years ago and since then, I have purchased 2 new vehicles. Nothing will ever compare to my Hyundai excel. Best car I have ever owned. Starts even when the temp is 20 below 0. The car has had reg. oil changes, a couple sets of tires and a new set of brakes. I loved this car.

If you are in a city, and all you need is to get from point a, to point b, this is definitely a good choice in a car. I use it daily to get to and from school, and I've had no problems. (Ok, A few small problems, nothing major though) There are a few things that could be better (Air unit, Cup Holder), but really this is a great car. I hope to keep it until it stops working!

I miss this car!

I lost it in a fire & I miss it badly. At first I wasn't big on its looks, but I quickly fell in love with it. I did have to do 1 major repair when I replaced the fuel pump. However, as that got the car to reach over 40 mpg I didn't mind! I grew to like not having power steering which at first was a big adjustment. But what amazed me the most was how much stuff I hauled - this car redefines "scrappy" as I moved big recliners, utility tables, garden supplies... you name it, and still got amazing gas mileage. It's the only car where I've been stopped by admirers. One couple said they put over 350K miles on theirs! Excellent car if you're not out for sheer power as it's not the fastest around.

I've had this car for a while and it is great for all people who like a manual shifting vehicle to learn more. This baby has all the things a beginner needs.

Awful Expensive to Own

I had this auto for less than 3 months and had to have the computer replaced by a Chevy Dealership. Then it stopped running and JH auto sales said that they could fix it. They said they worked on it for 2 1/2 months. It still did not run more than 20 min. My cost was around 350 dollars. Had it towed to another maintenance center and they charged me another 2000 dollars for repairs plus a new battery. If I had known that this auto could not be repaired and parts so expensive I would not have bought it and in fact I advise all that are thinking about buying this auto I can safely tell you it is nothing but junk. The gas mileage is worse that my 1969 Chevy Impala which is around 23 mpg.

Got my Excel for $400 from a "weekend warrior" of a mechanic, who only really changed the oil and changed the transmission fluid by replacing the entire trans., and put approxiamately 2 grand and practically rebuilt the engine and have never really had a major problem since ... now I can practically out - corner every car on the road ...

I have had this car for three months now i average about 110 miles a DAY back and forth to work. And to be honest this car is so reliable that i choose to take it before i take my minivan! It is very economical that it makes up in more than one way! every time i turn the key with out a doubt the engine starts right up!!It may not have the power to take me from 0 to 60 in 10 nor 15 seconds but it has the ability to take me further than any other car i have ever owned and it does 410 miles with less than

Bought a dealer's demo for affordable commuter car. I expected a 'cheap' car and expected to have to replace it after a couple of years. I have had it for 11 years with almost 200,000 miles on it and and I'm happy. Yes it has had a few repairs, but compared to Honda/Toyota/Nissan alternatives my Hyundai Excel has cost me about half as much over the last decade! GREAT economy transportation.a

My parents bought this car brand new for me when I was in high school. My dad thought it would be a nice cheap car that could get me through college. I took it with me to college in upstate NY for four years and had no problems at all. Now, two years after graduating my husband puts 90 miles a day on it commuting to and from work and it's still ticking. The car owes us absolutely nothing. The only problem we had was that the water pump went at 90,000 miles. It was a $400 fix and we've been running strong ever since! $400 in 7 years is not bad at all.

Point A to Point B

My Mom bought this car when it was already a few years old. I have since inherited it. For as long as I have owned it I have never had it in the shop for more than normal maintenance. That being said, I enjoy driving. If you enjoy driving, this is not the car for you. If you just need a reliable vehicle to get where you're going, you're in the right spot. The suspension is a little suspect. The lack of power steering can also get a little annoying. But I haved lived in Boston for years now and this car is very convenient for that type of driving. It's small, just zippy enough, and you don't need to make many visits to the gas station.

THIS IS A GREAT CAR!!! Very dependable (starts right up, even in the winter); small car + manual transmission = fun to drive; gas bill is cheap; replacing tires is cheap; always passes emissions; hatchback provides a surprisingly large amount of storage space (a necessity for my college days!); change the oil every 3K miles and she might go forever!

Test Drive This Car!

Wow!!! I never thought this Hyundai would perform as it has. I purchased my 4-Dr. Sedan GL in '97 when it had 41K miles. It now has 162K and still running strong. It has been reliable and economical. No breakdowns or mechanical failures. If you have a chance to purchase one of these little gems...you won't be disappointed. Cons: Annoying smoking just after starting, catalytic converter smells when engine is really taxed, strong winds really blow you around, the tranny jerks sometimes when shifting (Auto.), and the Market Value does not do this car justice...unless you're on the buying end!!!!

My Favourite Car!

This car is amazing. My parents bought it for me when I was in high school (2006), it only had 94k on it. My mom wishes she had it because of the fuel economy! My only problem is that the timing belt needs to be replaced, and she sometimes stalls if I turn it off and on repetitively. IE: going somewhere for 5 minutes; getting gas, etc., and she has a little bit of rust on her.

My father bought the Hyundai for me with 13 miles on it and now it has 151,800. Receieved as a birthday present on my 16th birthday and i'm 23 years old now so that says alot about the car and the only thing to every to go was the clutch at a 110,000. It has been in 3 bad accidents and it still runs perfect. The car proved critics wrong thats all I have to say.
