Used 2017 Hyundai Elantra Sedan Consumer Reviews
Paint peel on the white paint is awful
I bought a 2017 Hyundai Elantra value edition in 2019 with 19,000 miles on it. I now have 85,000 miles on it and for the most part it has been a really good car. My wife and I take little trips in it and it drives well and I like the look of it other than the paint peel. Do not get the white color they used an "eco friendly" paint on it. At least that's what a body guy at a Hyundai dealership told me when they gave me the run around to try to get them to fix it. It's been a nightmare trying to get Hyundai to stand behind there car and fix there defective paint problem. So far I've gotten them to agree to look at it at the dealership which I have to drive over 45 minutes away so they can take pictures "real quick" and then send us back home and they'll send them in to Hyundai to decide if they're going to do anything about it instead of just letting me take the pictures of them or just taking care of the problem with me dropping it off and they fix and I pick it up. That part has been very frustrating and it doesn't look like anything will come out of it. They should step up and stand behind there product. Other than that I change the oil as it should be I make sure all maintenance is done. I get 45+ miles on our highway drive and around 33-35 in town. It has very adequate acceleration no problems merging i think it's a pretty good car especially for the price. Here's the list of things I've had to replace so far. All 4 spark plugs and all 4 coils. I didn't necessarily have to do all of them but when I do something the best thing to do is replace all 4 of each. I did that after only one went out so I can't say all of them would have went out. That was at 48,000 miles for the coil to go out and I lost a plug at 50,000 so I did all 4 of those and so far that hasn't been an issue. I'm starting to have trouble with my passenger window getting stuck up or down I'm thinking it's in the wiring. The biggest problem I had (other than the paint) was the starter going out at 84,000 miles. That's way too early and a pain to replace. I've replaced a number of other starters but this one's really a bear to replace.its in crappy spot so I called the repair shop because I didn't want to spend the time on it and they wanted almost a thousand dollars so I decided to do it with a friend of mine who's very good at that kind of thing. He was able to get the new starter in and the old one out in about and hour after I took apart a bunch of stuff on the top of the motor and the shield on the bottom. Other than that it's jus been tires, brakes and routine maintenance I would recommend to other people (not the white paint) looking for a nice comfortable car which is actually quite large on the inside for the price. Easily fit four adults comfortably on trips. Hyundai fix your paint problem on the white car quit calling it a campaign instead of what it is (Recall) and only offering to fix 60 percent of the problem and stiffing your dealerships that did do the paint job and now won't because they say you won't pay them back for your work on a Hyundai problem. Otherwise I'd give them 5 stars. Wish I had bought the blue one but the wife decided she liked the white. Smh

Great car -HORRIBLE paint
I, like thousands of other pearl white hyundai owners have nasty, peeling paint issues that are not corrected or compensated by hyundai. It costs anywhere between $700.00 to $4500.00 to remove and repaint. The alternative is to literally watch it peel then rust. If you fix one spot another pops up. Dealers are worthless when trying to get recourse from hyundai. Research and read the reviews.

Very pleased so far. Had car 4 months.
Got a great Black Friday deal for a new SE. Was happy with my 2 Kia Optimas I had in the past. Like Kia / Hyundai warranty. I like everything about my Elantra, except the fact that since the car was on the BOAT for a looong time, from Korea, the tires had FLAT SPOTTING, which impacted the cars ride. Test drive carefully. Dealer wouldn't fix. Frustrating. And, VERY ANNOYING and FRUSTRATED, that the BACK UP camera was not included in the SE model.
