Bought mine new in May2014. After over 5 years i can review it as a Great car. Ended up having to drive Uber after end of 2015. Car paid for itself and all of my bills. Pot holes in New Orleans are not nice. Plenty of clearance . car is agile. I bought the 1.8 liter. Love it. Plenty fast even with 5 people and trunk load of luggage. Great interrior room. Nice sized trunk. Noisy with tires it came with on interstate. Pirelli all seasons quieted road noise down.i change oil every 7,000 miles with mobil 1 synthetic. Use 0w20 for fuel efficiency. 127,000 miles and still performing like new. Have changed back brake pads at 90k. Windshield wipers. Oil & filter. Cabin air filter & k&n air filter. Also headlights & brakelights. Years of 12 hour shifts night driving. This car is tough !

Just bought my new 2014 Elantra Limited and it may be to soon to get an accurate review on the reliability I can say I love this car! It's my first brand new car and i'm glad I made the purchase! Van Horn Hyundai was extremely helpful in making sure I got exactly what I wanted. I would recommend this car to anyone who is looking for a small or midsize car.

Tired of hearing “This particular car”

I’m tired of hearing “oh yea, this particular car” in regards to all the problems I’ve had with it. I’ve stumped every mechanic I’ve taken it to with the mysterious issues that arise like when it was losing power for no reason. Just wouldn’t turn on. Then it would... For several weeks on and off a year ago. When I hit my breaks the entire stereo restarts... Every time... Same with when I turn on my lights or roll down my windows. If I turn on my A/C at night I can see my headlights flicker/dim. I can’t use my cruise control or else my transmission goes on the fritz. It jumps in and out of gears at seemingly the most random times. For such a small and unimpressive car the gas mileage is pathetic, worse than some small SUV’s and the tiny gas tank guarantees I’m filling up almost twice a week. By far the most disappointing car I’ve ever owned.

Great little commuter car

I bought this car in 2014 and sold it to Carmax in 2021 when used car prices went through the roof. During those years, it’s been a reliable and very efficient commuter car. Probably the most expensive thing I ever paid for was $700 for a new set of tires (and it was only that high because I wanted high-end Michelins to replace the cheapo Hankooks it came with when they wore out). Very cost-effective to operate, and never had a major reliability issue at all. I also took it on some really long trips, including west coast to east coast and back. Drove through baking hot deserts, blinding snowstorms, pouring thunderstorms, it handled everything fine. First and foremost, it’s an economy car, with all the good and bad that entails. Gas mileage averaged 33-35, with 20’s in the city and low 40’s on the highway. The little 1.8L engine was very good at low speeds, but ran out of breath a bit at fast highway speeds, and really struggled on any steep incline. Highway speed also brought a lot of road noise, to the point that it could overwhelm the radio or phone calls, unless you turn up the volume to high. Handling was good for an economy car, but it’s no sports sedan. It was quite comfortable and spacious for a small economy car. Front legroom was surprisingly good and rear legroom felt much better than the official 33 inches. Much better. But it always reminds you it’s still an economy car. For example, you feel the bumps in the road. On smooth California roads, that wasn’t an issue. Driving around pockmarked winter-damaged East Coast roads was jarring. All the electronics worked fine, but again, they were economy car electronics. So it had Sirius/XM, but sound quality was a bit tinny. It had a rearview camera, but a small low-resolution 4 inch screen. Etc. With its small size and tiny turning radius, you could park it almost anywhere. Great urban car, for small city streets and narrow alleyways, or great commuter car that’s an inexpensive but not very exciting companion. The only issue I ever really had with it was with the key-fob, which had a very touch sensitive remote trunk release. If you barely even touched it, like if it pressed against your leg in your pocket, you could walk out and find your trunk open. I tried all kinds of fixes and eventually just took it in to a Hyundai dealer to disable the remote release, forcing me to open it with the key every time. I’ve never had this issue with any other car, but I’ve read Hyundai forums where people have this problem. Other than that, mostly a lot of positive experiences.

Decent

It’s been a great little commuter for the last six months and I’ve had no complaints until today. When my tire shredded and I was left stranded with nothing more than a repair kit. Well considering the fact that you could stick w quarter through the hole I’m thinking that there was no way in heck the sealant could patch it. The fact that the spare tire shaded hole in my trunk doesn’t hold a spare tire is the most enraging thing I can think of. When it comes time for a new car we’ll see if Toyota maybe cares enough about the customer to at least give them a spare tire
