Love my 2014 Limited
I am not sure about the bad reviews because I love mine. I owned everything from, Pintos to Caddys. I like the car all the way around and feel it is one of the most under rated cars out there.
Worst car I have every owned
I hope this car was a freak accident because it has literally fallen apart off the show room floor! At 52k the engine failed, the headliner had to be replaced, the eyeglass storage unit has been recalled, the sunroof controls broke, the rear seal when they replaced the engine was bad, and now the front left axle has failed with a manufacturer's fault. The dealership has been nothing short of mean spirited about it all and has tried to blame me for everything. This vehicle is a dud! Hyundai took it upon themselves to replace the engine with a short block and it sucks. Zero performance, bad gas mileage, it always smokes - and I have only 62,000 miles on it (the engine only has 8,000) The protective coating on the paint is bubbling, the engine protector plate fell off. After having owned a 1999 Honda Civic Si and driving it for over 375,000 miles - this is one huge disappointment! So you want an up date on my review? You can add a rebuilt transmission, a garbage new clutch that squeaks every frickin time I change gears and a replaced pressure plate...once a piece of garbage...always one big, fat piece of trash!! There's your up date! Enjoy. Another update. Left me sitting on the side of the road one too many times! That they are finally taking responsibility and doing a major recall on these engines, doesn't surprise me. I stand by my rating of one, should be less. Palmer's Hyundai, especially the general manager, gets zero and a big fat middle finger! I dumped this piece of garbage and hope they smashed it into a little tiny square!! Another update...I dumped that POS for a Honda. Thank the lord!!

My Second Elanta - Solid Value
Overall it's a great car and initial quality was outstanding with no defects. Highway gas mileage may not always be the original false claim of 40 MPG but now that car is broken in I get there with summer blend of gas. Mostly highway driving (80/20) so overall I get 35 to 38 consistently. The transmission is very smooth though occasionally when you come to a hill it feels like the transmission should downshift. Fortunately you have the option to manually downshift so it's not that big a deal. If you want sporty, go for a Mazda 3 - Elantra's acceleration is okay and it handling is very good but not quite on par with Mazda. But then again, I judged the overall road noise level of the Mazda 3 annoying by comparison. Like the Mazda and other small 4-cylinder cars it gets a bit loud when accelerating onto the highway. Beware the blind spots sue to the slope of the front roof pillars. Backup camera is very handy since it's tough to judge the front or back through the windows. Standard audio system is okay but wish it had a bit more "oomph" - especially for bass. Bluetooth works well and touch screen controls are easy to learn. Climate controls are well- designed.

Rattles, Shakes, and Slides
This car has truly poor handling. It's wet and snow traction are horrendous. You can't hit a dip in the road or a pothole without the car flopping around and the traction control coming on. This car feels both cheap and low quality.

Great car for the money.
I now have approximately 28,000 miles on the car. My only complaint is the way the transmission is overly programmed for gas mileage. When the trans. upshifts, the rpm's drop down too much and you lose the torque. If you shift manually the rpm's do not drop so much. Also, when you go to downshift, say to pass another car, you have to depress the gas pedal a lot and this usually causes the trans. to downshift at least two gears. When I go to pass, I use the manual mode which, again, works much better. All in all, a great little car, especially when you factor in the cost and what you get for the money. I would definitely buy another Elantra.
