Used 2001 Hyundai Elantra Hatchback Consumer Reviews
price and quality can't be beat
At 50k brakes still perfect. Ride still tight. Car is all around amazing bargain
I enjoy my car and recommend it!
Features, such as leather seats, power win/dr, sunroof and a/c, make this car fun to drive. Other features, like rear seats that fold down flat, heated side mirrors, rear defogger, front and side airbags, cruise control and child- locks, make this car responsible and mature. I have not had to use the toll free roadside assistance number for any malfunctions. The bad. The Elantra's fuel mileage is really: city 25mpg, highway 30mpg. I'm used to a Toyota Tercel @ 35 mpg and 44mpg. Even with 140 horse power, Elantra's engine doesn't accelerate quickly. Drive fast it does, accelerating could be better.

Watch Out For Faulty Airbags!!!!!!
Though we loved our GT, we've had problems with the front/passengar airbags twice (dealer had to replace module once, then the connector). AND, when we got into a front-end collision at 35mph (hit a truck t-bone), our airbags failed to deploy. Dealership is giving us the runaround as is Hyundai corporate. Just watch out.
My GT
I thought I would NEVER buy a Hyundai, But I'm glad I did. This is a great car! BHowever it could use a little more power.
Fun wore off
I really liked this car when I got it because of the price, lightweight body, peppy motor, 4 doors/roomy back seats, and leather interior. Now that I have had it a bit, I am unhappy with vibration in the steering wheel at 75+mph and am unhappy with the extreme vibration of braking the car when at modest speeds..esp on downhill slopes - very unsatisfactory. I also don't like that the US version engine is dialed back esp. in the lower power band. This car needs a mod-chip to reclaim that low-end power.
