Almost as good as a Mazda3; update
This is my 3rd review of my 2014 Elantra GT, manual. I still think this is a great car, had it for a year and a half now---wonder why there are not more of them on the road. The gas mileage is low 30s at best, maybe that's why. I still think it's up there with the Mazda3, but I still miss the driving dynamics of a Mazda. I'm tempted to trade it/sell it for a new Mazda3 hatchback, but this car has everything I want, so I'm thinking it would be silly to unload it with less than 20,000 miles on the odometer; maybe in a year or two after I have another 20K on it. I've had no mechanical problems with this Elantra GT and certainly don't anticipate any in the next several years. It seems to be very well built.

Great overall small car
The Elantra GT hatchback is a very versatile small car. Great styling, performance, and interior room. Fold down the rear seats and you have a large cargo area. One of the largest in the small hatchback category. The 173 hp engine provides very good performance. Never feels like the car is "straining" like many small cars with less horsepower do. The handling is very sports car like. Very quick and precise. The cars wide track, and coil spring suspension design make an effective package. I have owned the car for two years. No problems. Would buy one again. A lot of standard features that you have to pay extra for in other small cars.

Premature brake wear
2014 Elantra GT w/25,000 miles and front brake inner pads worn down to metal & inner rotors badly scored, outer pads & rotors not even 50% worn!!! Gerald Hyundai in North Aurora, IL says not covered IW, I don't drive enough?!?! Apparently Hyundai dealers DON'T stand behind the product they sell. I have seen hundreds of other Elantra drivers with similar issues & are told the same BS excuse!!

Disappointed - Hyundai blames purchaser for lousy paint job on new car
Purchased new after gave Pontiac Vibe to daughter (LOVED that car) Elantra is LESS THAN. Commute 60 miles turnpike driving. Cannot drive on highway w/windows open without car shaking, Noise level is intolerable, like being in a wind tunnel. Angle of driver's seat tilts your knees up, not adjustable and very uncomfortable for me (5'9"). After one winter paved highway driving, front bumper paint started chipping off. Dealer #1 said repainted before purchase. Selling Dealer denied - says it is my fault, "drove thru gravel. Same commute Vibe 6 years - no chipping. No response from Hyundai Customer Relations. You have lost a customer(and all her huge family) Hyundai.
Terrible build quality
I should have known better. Hyundai is a company that sells cheap cars, manufactured using cheap parts, resulting in a cheap product that cannot withstand the rigours of daily driving. I will never purchase a car manufactured by Hyundai or any of its affiliates again.
