UPDATE 12/19/17: Year and a half with the vehicle and about 70,000 miles on the car. It's been on about4-5 road trips up and down the east coast. Now averaging just under 1000 miles a week for everyday use. It should be going down. I purchased an old wrangler to run around town in to help keep the miles off the GT. Happy with the performance. It does well on the highway and the city streets. (sounds like a race car and always has when accelerating.) The interior is still in great shape even with my dogs and work supplies beating it up every day. I decided not to trade in the vehicle as of now, but would prefer a larger SUV. As stated in my previous review, it's simply too small. The 60,000 mile mark is where I started to need service. A few simple things like brake lights and blinker lights. Then the car started hesitating while shifting so I had a little bit of engine maintenance that was roughly $500.00. Probably going to need the lifters replaced within the next 10,000K miles. MPG is still about 31 with a 50/50 split highway and city miles. Everyone I have talked to who owns one, loves it and is very happy. UPDATE: 6/15/17- Still very happy with the car. I get about 31mpg. I drive roughly 1000 miles a week combined hwy and rural. Couple things that I would change, is the door vacuum and the folding seats in the back. I would prefer that the back seats fold down flush, similar to how they work in a Honda Fit. Not having it flush can pose an issue with dogs and other things I tote like tables and chairs. Overall, I like the car. It has been a full year since I bought. But I would be lying if I didn't write that I am looking to trade it in ASAP. It's simply too small. It's too small for my animals, for my work supplies, my friends, for large grocery hauls, ect. It would be great as a "normal" driver car. To work and the basics. Purchased this vehicle when my 2008 Hyundai Sonata quit after 200,000 miles. Before purchasing this vehicle I shopped on the internet for about a week. What I needed was a compact vehicle with 4 doors, Hatchback, large cargo area with and without backseat folded down, good MPG and a vehicle that could go the distance. I drive roughly about 1000 to 1500 miles per week, so a vehicle that could keep up was essential. I looked at comparable cars such as the Hyundai Accent Hatchback, Ford Focus Hatchback, Ford C-Max hybrid, Toyota Prius Hybrid, Nissan Vensa, Chevy Spark, Honda Fit and several others. After comparing them they all had great reviews and the features I was looking for, so it came down to proximity. After test driving many of the vehicles and comparing them on the road I loved the Elantra GT hatchback. I bought a 2014 with 7000 miles on it. Silver exterior with blue interior and an automatic engine. I absolutely love this vehicle. It's sporty and compact but comfortable for someone my size (5'10, 220 LBS) handles great on all surfaces and elements, has great driver controls and is large enough to fit 4 adults comfortably. The things I wish were a bit more comparable with other compact cars is the MPG and the cargo space. Also, the doors are extremely difficult to close. I literally have to slam them, and the road noise cancellation is not what it could be. I work in both the city and rural areas. If I'm mainly in the city my MPG is steady 25-28 and in the rural areas 30-33. I fill up about every two days. The cargo space is "ok". If you are using this vehicle for life such as groceries, soccer gear or family. I am sure the cargo space will be sufficient for you. But I load it up with work equipment and gear and there simply is not enough room for me. Overall I am really happy with this purchase. It has great features depending on the model you choose, it fits a budget and it's a versatile and stylish car that I would definitely recommend for compact car buyers.

We liked our first Gt so much we bought a 2nd! These are great vehicles compared to the competition when you weigh in all the factors. Styling is unique, don't see many on the road, lots of compliments! Decent riding and driving dynamics, plus higher HP than others in the compact hatchback segment. Test drove Focus, Mazda 3, Golf, Sonic and Forte5. The Forte 5 and Sonic Turbo tied for a close 2nd. The warranty, maint pkg and price we paid made the GT a no brainier. It's every much as nice, actually nicer that the others. While the others are all decent cars the uniqueness of the Gt really stood out, with all the other positives. Love the fold flat seats, we haul a ton of cargo in this compact, and great MPGs too! Could not be happier. Hyundai does need to make a better key fob though, that's our only complaint

Peppy And Fun But Practical Too

The 2014 Elantra GT 6-speed base with blue leather interior is difficult to find but has just about everything one could hope for. Leather. Power driver's seat. Tilt/telescope adjustment on the steering wheel. Headlights. An amazing panoramic sunroof. Navigation system with Bluetooth. The driving experience is beyond anything else available in this size class, and I've test-driven them all. The shifting is smooth, the engine is responsive. It does require downshifting to capture necessary passing power, but you're getting a stickshift because you enjoy that...right? The navigation system is so-so. There doesn't seem to be any HD radio capability, which is disappointing in a 2014 that is otherwise fully loaded. And this particular car came without an auto-dimming homelink mirror, and the side mirrors are not auto-dimming either. I forgot how bright headlights can be without auto-dimming mirrors! That's about it for the negatives. The car has amazing disappearing rear seats for a fully-flat fold-down in case of larger cargo. The blue leather is awesome, seat heat is adequate, there are enough cup holders, and most importantly the driving experience is Beyond Awesome (TM). Hyundai really messed up with this car, though -- apparently leather (et. al.) is not available in a stickshift for the 2016 model year. Are you kidding me?

Faulty Engine

Bought this car in 2018 with 60k miles on it. Had all the extras - bluetooth, sunroof, leather, navigation, etc. Really enjoyed it for what it was: small & economical. Lowest car I have ever driven, so I was surprised when I blew a tire on a pothole, but I guess that comes with this type of car. Changed the oil and kept with regular maintenance then one day heard a slight knocking from the engine. By the time I made it to my destination it was loud (like you could hear it across the parking lot). Apparently there is a "known" problem that causes metal to enter the oil/pistons, ultimately rendering the engine useless. Though the car is under 100k miles, I am not the original owner so it is not covered under warranty. It has also not been recalled. Got a quote for $3k-$4k replacement, then waited a month so I could save for it. Now there are no available engines because there is such a demand. Now it's just a nice looking driveway ornament. This may not be every experience, but I know it's not singular.

This car was a great compact 5 door hatchback. For the 3 years we had it, it NEVER gave us ANY trouble at all! Takes on snow like it's nothing. Adequately quiet and smooth ride. Great sound system, with standard USB and auxiliary jacks. It has a neat cooled glove box compartment. Decent gas mileage. Great cargo space, considering the size of the vehicle. The front seats have modest bolsters that hold you in during sharp turns. The only complaints are ease of certain maintenance (e.g. oil changes), no automatic climate control, and a small backseat (however, it's bigger than say, a Fiesta). Would buy one again.
