Hyundai Accent for the win!

Angelia Belcher, 06/27/2018
2017 Hyundai Accent SE 4dr Hatchback (1.6L 4cyl 6M)

I love this vehicle! We just drove it for over 300 miles and it only took $25 to fill it back up. It drives amazingly and it's so quiet you sometimes can't even tell if the engine is running. One thing I like is that it has anchor holds for a car seat that our previous car did not. I felt so paranoid because the only thing holding down our 2 year olds carseat was a seatbelt. The anchor holds are so much more secure.

I love my Hyundai Accent

Chelsea B, 10/12/2017
2017 Hyundai Accent Sport 4dr Hatchback (1.6L 4cyl 6A)

This is my first new car and I love it! I have had absolutely zero buyer's remorse. Previously I was driving a 1995 Nissan Altima, so this car is a huge improvement in every way possible. I live in a rural area and commute to work so I wanted something with good fuel economy, great night time visibility, and something I feel safe driving. The Accent exceeded all of my expectations. I am averaging 40 mpg! I've driven over the mountain pass recently and averaged 41 mpg! The steering is fantastic and I love driving through traffic circles and winding roads. The interior feels huge when you're inside the car and I can haul so much that I'm still shocked by the cargo space! The headlights are amazing, I feel like I have a really clear view of what's happening on and off the road around me. I love the Bluetooth capabilities, I am constantly playing music from my phone and love that I can safely answer phone calls. Even the color and appearance of the car is enjoyable. I opted for red because I wanted a bright color so my car wouldn't blend in with the background of rural driving. The dealership has contacted me multiple times to ask how I'm enjoying the car and I have no complaints. This is by no means a luxury vehicle and I've seen plenty of reviews complaining about the lack of features. This is a very basic vehicle by today's standards but if you've been driving an old rust bucket this car is a dream.

New to Hyundai

Chris P, 04/20/2019

I bought my 2017 Hyundai Accent Sport Hatchback a few days ago, with 8900 miles on it. Let’s be clear about something: this isn’t a hot-hatch. But it isn’t advertised as such. The performance I’m getting out of it thus far (ECO mode off) is surprisingly good. The shifting and gear-selection by the automatic gearbox is smooth and controlled. I’ve had the air conditioning on the whole time I’ve had the car and it doesn’t seem to blink at this. My old Ford Escort would roll over and painfully wallow into acceleration with the AC enabled. The great: - Far more comfortable than expected. It’s an econobox A-B car. The front seat is supposed to be a nightmare. I haven’t found it to be terrible at all. - Smooth shifting, great gearbox. A 6-speed automatic is better than anything I’ve ever had and is very smooth. - Oddly enough, features. This car came with every feature except a sunroof and seat-warmers. I still haven’t worked my way through them all. I flag this as “odd,” because it’s an econobox. It should have a speedometer, a flimsy gas-gauge, a tinny radio, and that’s it. - Feels solidly-built. When I shut the door, it goes “thunk.” Not the ultra-overbuilt “thud” of an older Mercedes or Audi, but certainly not the “tink” I’d expect of a car in its class. The good: - Fuel consumption. It’s not bad. I’ve been driving with ECO mode off, and this model has performance tires (190/50 16R), but I’m sure I can get mid-30s out of the car under this configuration. I could likely get mid-40s if I put on tiny tires and turned on ECO mode, but I bought this as a fun commuter car rather than a “get in and hate myself for a half-hour at a time” commuter. - Instrumentation. Layout is as it should be. I have the sport hatch with fog lamps, so the left and right stalks are LOADED with controls. Even so, the layout is mostly-intuitive, with the most awkward bit coming in me wanting to pair my phone (something I’ve never done with a car before). - Lighting. Headlights are bright and seem to give me a lot of detail, taillights seem bright and are certainly impossible to miss. And the side mirrors have indicator lights on them, so it is obvious to other cars when I’m going to make a move. Interior panel lighting is pretty good. It’s blue, which isn’t ideal for night-vision, but it’s not SUPER INTENSITY LED BLUE at least, so I found it unobtrusive when I drove for the first time at night last night. - Brakes. Discs all-round, with the front discs ventilated. Best brakes I’ve ever had on a car and stopping feels VERY secure and controlled, with no wheel-hop or fade/pull. The so-so: - It’s true what they say. Visibility out the back window is not great. Not even “good.” I’m going to pull my rear headrests and stow them in the cargo space unless I’m carrying someone in the back. I use my mirrors anyway, but this is a car that MANDATES this behavior. And with no backup camera, it can be a bit dicey at times to back out of a parking spot. The bad: - Not even a donut in the back. This was a disappointment. No jack, no stupid dummy-wheel, no lug wrench. In the back, under the cargo floor, there is a wheel-shaped well that contains a can of fix-a-flat. C’mon. Hyundai, charge me another $200, give me another alloy wheel and tire, and eat another 10 cubic inches of storage space! If that would buy me a full-size spare, I’d SO be in.

The 1.6 engine and 6 speed auto makes this car a great value! It is solid and gets you from point A to B easily! The seats are comfortable and supportive. The stereo really sounds decent for a small car. The warranty is the best and can be expanded to a 10 year 120,000 bumper to bumper! You won't find that with any other small car! 13,000 miles and still no issues! Great little car!

Awesome Bang for the Buck...

Apparently October 2017 is a great time to cut a deal on a brand new Hyundai Accent Sport Hatchback. I leased a 2014 Sonata Limited for 3 years and have a foundation with Hyundai automobiles. I wanted a fuel efficient run around town car and the Accent Sport has exceeded my expectations. The car is literally loaded with every imaginable Sub Compact Options, Safety Features, Entertainment, and Electronics. I test drove the car twice and it was the 2nd test drive that sold me. Comfortable Seat, Sure Footed Ride, Acceptable Road Noise, Adequate Stereo, Fuel Burn Computer, Plenty of Room in the Cockpit for 4 plus Cargo. Alloy Wheels? 4 Wheel Disc Brakes? Steering Wheel Mounted Controls? Bluetooth Hands Free? 30mpg around town? 37mpg HWY? Best Warranty in America today. I paid $13,000 Cash. What's not to like? The ONLY gripe I would pass on is without a Turbo the 1.6L DGI engine requires a healthy amount of pedal to get moving. 3 Driving Modes...Eco, Sport, Normal... Take a Test Drive and decide for yourself. After all, this is a bottom of the line model for Hyundai...

Easy to drive in the city, and stable on the highways at 70+. My average mpg was around 30, and 0-60 was adequate.I think it has the most value as a commuter car, that can handle an occasional highway trip safely. The Accent is safe on the highway. I've rented another subcompact, which was comparable in size, not a Ford, that shook at 70, and felt like it would get blown off the road by trucks. Not the Accent. Good job Hyundai.

This is the second Hyundai Accent I have purchased. I have found this model to be reliable and truly TROUBLE FREE. I had no issues with my previous car and went ahead and have this one and I love it too! It is easy to drive and handles really well. I feel safe and in control when driving this car and that is important to me. I have owned both a Hyundai Sonata and now two Accents and I would recommend either model to anyone. They are wonderful cars and really deserve more than 5 stars in my estimation.

I have been buying Hyundai since 2003. I have never switched company's. What convinced me in buying a Hyundai a read Consumer Reports a long time ago about Hyundai cars. I read that BMW engineers came to Hyundai engineers to ask them for help in building BMW race car engines. Now, if that fact alone doesn't sell u on Hyundai I don't know wht other facts u need. Over my many years as a owner of a Hyundai, I would buy nothing else. I just purchased a 2017 Hyundai Accent with 10 miles on it right out of the showroom. The car is running like a dream, no problems , no issues. Built exceptionally well inside and out. I would recommend Hyundai to anyone today. The only thing I do is change the oil every 4000 miles or sometimes less. A dream car for me, with a dream pricetag to it, for all u get.

I bought this car used and I’ve had nothing but problems out of it. The bumper broke within a month of the purchase. 3 months in I had issues with carbon build up and now at my 5 month mark with the car it’s leaking oil. Save your downpayment and by a cheaper car to pour money into rather than making a payment and pouring money into this junk of a car.

Just what I wanted!

Purchased this car because I drive approximately 60 miles a day and needed something good on gas, comfortable and easy to drive. This little car was perfect. Although it had 5300 miles when purchased, I have added approximately 1400 since March 2018. The back seat can be a bit cramped if there are really tall people in the front seat. On the highway, the car has a smooth ride and is able to accelerate quickly when needed. The gas mileage is running about where I expected it to be, when using Ecoboost, which is around 34-35 MPG for combined highway and inter city driving. Not using the Ecoboost, for greater performance, the mileage still runs about 32-35 MPG. I have only had the vehicle for a month, but it seems as if it will be a great quality vehicle with acceptable maintenance costs. Warranty and extended warranty purchased through dealership should cover a majority of any problems that may arise between now and the time the loan is paid off. If you are in the market for a sporty looking, economical and comfortable small vehicle, consider the Hyundai Accent.

I've been reading all of the reviews. I am shocked that no one mentioned the excessive cabin noise coming from the road and tires. Everyone tells me that that noise is normal. How can that be normal. I love the style of the car. the size, the roomy interior but that noise is too much for me. I took it back after 7 days. If someone could soundproof it I would go back and get another one. They say that different tires can make a difference. A smaller size, skinnier tires and a thicker side wall and also a different thread could eliminate some of that noise.

I bought a used 2017 Hyundai Accent in January 2019. Have had it a full year now, and fail to understand the lower ratings . . . ? Did they test drive it, and look at existing equipment inside? I noticed tire noise, also, but already knew that purchase of quieter-rated all season tires could resolve that nicely, and was also able to see the available equipment on the test drive. The Accent is a very basic, nicely constructed little car, with huge heart and great giddy up when merging into motorway traffic . . . nice sound system with CD player, too. Would have bought a new one if Hyundai had not discontinued the CD player. Truly appreciative, also, of the long warranty period and great dealer presence. Value for money is truly hard to surpass!

Excellent Economy Hatch

Very enjoyable ride, holds tight in the corners and has plenty of power for emergencies, though high reving is needed for such, cargo space is great, huge space with the back seats folded. I would suggest adding an upgraded entertainment/infotainment system (I'm putting in a 6.2 inch screen with Bluetooth, GPS, DVD player, backup camera, OBD2, etc), K&N 33-2472 High Performance Air Filter, as well as cruise control as the SE doesn't have it. The car is very responsive in handling, though if you like a sportier feeling like I do, I'd suggest adding Storm Lowering Springs and a short throw shifter. For an even better driving experience, a front strut tower bar (upper strut brace), rear torsion bar, 2 or 4 point (I prefer 4) lower tiebar brace, can be found at piercemotorsport.

I recently bought a used Accent and I'm pretty happy with my purchase! I got a really good deal on this car and I have a long commute to work everyday so I'm very content with the fuel economy and overall drive of this car. So far the only downsides are how small the gas tank is (but makes for a cheap fill-up) and the fact that it didn't come with cruise control. For what I paid, I'm very happy with this car!

As you accelerate, the usb flash will disconnect and back!!! Tried few of those usb/aux to see if the problem was caused by the port, but same issue! Changed the original radio with a different original one, worked well for 2 hrs and same problem existed again! After going deep into the issue, the 5v power was dropping to around 1.2v during acceleration! Checked everything there was to check!!! Replacing an alternator regulator was an issue as well-made! Once you take off the controls, the alternator worked just fine, but with controls connected, it charges well when stopping and didn't charge while driving Made! Made me hate the car which I have just bought!!! 64000 miles only!!!

I purchased what's now "the top of the line" Accent, a value edition for my daughter after she totalled her 2013 Accent. This car is maybe one step above a stripped rental car. The quality of the interior is cheaper and less attractive than her 2013, the her 2013, which wasn't a top of the line Accent came with fog lights, auto dimming review mirror with compass, better quality interior and you were actually able to purchase a jack and spare tire for that car. I regret buying this car for her now but to late to get rid of it, it's only one month old and has a horrible resale value. Even the Hyundai dealer I bought it from didn't want to work with us to trade it in on a used Elantra. Poor resale value, absolutely bare minimum extras for a top of the line model, very dated styling, almost as if Hyundai went back to the Excel days of the 80's but without the cheap price. Guess she's stuck with this till she hits the break even point with her financing. Makes me think twice before buying a Hyundai again. In hinesight, the Kia Rio, which is their bottom of the line car is actually a better car. My own fault for not doing more research plus was under pressure as she needed a car quickly for getting to and from work, public transportation where we live is horrible.

While clearly designed more for city use, the Accent gets fantastic gas mileage while traveling at 70-80mph. I regularly get 42-47 MPG driving on the highway, once I hit city driving it can do about 28 MPG in short distance stop-and-go driving. Our Accent has no options at all, it doesn't even have cruise control, but it has also cost nothing to repair since it was bought brand new back in 2016. The engine is quiet, the transmission is slushy but well tuned, and the seats are relatively comfortable. The only issue with the car is that the third brake light burned out, which seems to be a big issue with any Hyundai that originated in the early 2010s era.
